What Did Bob Beckel Call Mitt Romney That Resulted in an On-Air Apology?

On Wednesday, Bob Beckel, co-host of Fox News Channel’s “The Five,” tore into presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, calling him a “punk” with the “personality of a Ken doll.”
“He’s never done anything,” Beckel said of Romney, getting himself worked up. “He’s a hedge fund operator who didn’t release his taxes and then put — had tax havens for people who didn’t want to pay U.S. taxes.”
“Mitt Romney actually has a resume with considerable experience and, as Andrea stated, he is definitely crushing it against Obama in terms of the economy,” fellow co-host Kimberly Guilfoyle replied.
“You mind telling me what his resume is? Bain Capital. Anything else,” Beckel shot back.
Beckel went on: “Romney is a Ken doll with all the personality of a Ken doll.”
Still questioning his credentials to run for president, Beckel asked why Romney’s favorability was so low among voters.
“I’m in the business of trying to beat this punk,” Beckel added.
However after having a commercial break to think about his outburst, he apologized:
First of all, let me say one thing – I was not asked to say this – I called Romney a punk in the last segment. I got a little overheated because I’m outnumbered four to one, but I take that back. I don’t think he’s a punk, I think he’s a nice guy. I think he’s not very good to be President of the United States – as a matter of fact, he’s terrible.
“That is not a good apology,” Guilfoyle said.

He had a few weeks of clarity after being canned from NPR, where he felt the sting of speaking honestly. I actually can sympathize with Beckels frustration from being outnumbered but I am sick and tired of them tolerating his relentless name calling, especially the disrespect he shows Romney with the insulting names, that is never, ever reciprocated towards Obama by the rest of The Five. Beckels go-to when he’s frustrated is to nastily name call and make up facts – the rest of The Five either need to call him out on his lies and insults (instead of their go-to of “Oh Bob” with a head shaking laugh) or he needs to go. Just today Beckel makes fun of Romney’s foreign policy experience but wanted Obama for President in 2008 who had ZERO foreign policy experience when he ran…… Obama had nothing to show for his years in his state and federal Senate seats…. Beckel perpetually lies about Romney’s business record fluctuating between calling him a vulture capitalist and a hedge fund manager… and the rest of them say nothing… The Five was my favorite show for a long time but these last few weeks…. they’ve been letting Beckel dip into the crazy pool a little too deeply.

Both sides have opinions and act differently and sometimes it is harder to be patient enough to listen. In politics every voice counts. I love the fact this man is on this show. He brings in different views. I don’t necessarily agree, and yes, the outbursts are strenuous but it shows FOX’s ability to give time to opposing views. With politics aside though, I hope the group gets along and they kid. It makes me realize politics is one thing, but people are different and you can’t dislike others for being of a different opinion.

He hogs more than his one fifth share that is for sure! He is less informed than the others on the show and spouts off things that are not factual. Sometimes they are caught (usually by Eric) but alot of times they are not addressed. I think sometimes Fox puts the bimbo types like Bob Beckel and Tamara (that gal on Hannity sometimes who is completely stupid) on their shows to demonstrate how stupid liberals are. It works.

You watch the show just to see whether he will swear/say off-color comment. Beckel comes out swinging for Christians and is ticked off at the media for not stating Christians are slaughtered in Muslim world. He does NOT like no-smoking outside laws or no 16oz soda laws,etc. Beckel is a smoker. Beckel is an old liberal – new liberals like all these things.
Eric Bolling is the 4rd BEST co-host (reminds me of a Hannity – only with a business perspective. He was better on the Fox Business show Fox pulled when The Five came on board. Also pulled was Judge Napalitano’s FANTASTIC show.
Kimberly Guilfoyle – Is so-so. Steeped in San Francisco sewage/once married toSF mayor, she claims to be a conservative but is for gay marriage but it is her lawyer stance on privacy and other issues that are LIBERAL. Untrustworthy.

Posted on July 26, 2012 at 12:09pmYou watch every day?! I watched the first 3 episodes when it first started airing. That was all I needed to know that the show is crap. There isn’t a whole lot of intelligent discussion on the show. I watch a little bit of it from time to time (meaning every few months I might tune in for a few minutes late at night). I‘d rather just watch Red Eye where I know the discussion isn’t meant to be completely serious and I can be entertained at the same time.
Gutfeld is one of the only ones I can listen to on The Five. The others all make ridiculous statements often enough that I don’t want to watch any of it. Though I will admit that Beckel is probably the biggest problem with the show since, like most liberal progressives, he defends the indefensible and attacks anyone that isn’t a Democrat. I mean, he can‘t really believe that Romney hasn’t done anything other than Bain Capital. Anyone that knows anything about him (Romney) knows that he’s done a few more things than that. And at least he wasn’t a “community organizer” (in other words a Marxist).

Have never watched his show since he has been on HBO, only scenes occasionally shown here. But, I do recall seeing it a few times when he was still on ABC. I did watch one all the way through back in the late ’90s. Ken Hamblin, The Black Avenger was on. He was quicker with the wit than Maher and he ate their lunch for the entire hour. None of this episode is on any of the You Tube available episodes.
