What Did Michelle Obama Say to the President During the 9/11 Ceremony? (Take the Poll)

A spirited debate broke out on Glenn Beck’s radio show on Thursday morning regarding video that has surfaced showing Barack and Michelle Obama during a 9/11 ceremony. It shows Michelle whispering something to Barack, Barack nodding back, and Michelle making a facial expression in response. Some, such as Glenn and Pat, say it shows Michelle saying something disrespectful. Others, such as Stu and intern Adam, disagree.

After watching it, Glenn thought Michelle had said something derogatory about the flag, such as “Look at that damn flag” or “All that for a flag?”

To settle the issue, he brought on Adam the intern, who has been deaf most his life and has had to read lips to communicate. What does Adam think she said?

“Look at how they fold that flag,” Adam said.

In response, Glenn pointed to Michelle’s past comments about changing traditions, and said she looked disgusted. Stu disagreed: “I don‘t think that’s a look of disgust.”

Adam continued: “There could be something about a ‘damn’ flag,“ but he called it a ”slight possibility“ and said ”I really don’t see that, I really think it‘s about ’folding that flag.’”

    I think she said “All this for a flag.” because of the way he reacted. His reaction was three-fold – first he listened to her, then he turned toward her, becoming animated, smiled and nodded in agreement, then he returned to his original “presidential” posture. The sentence can be taken two ways: She could have meant “All this for a flag! Wow! Look at the respect they show to honor it!“ or she could have meant ”All this for a flag. What a complete waste of time to make everyone stand her while they go on and on and on all for a piece of fabric.” Personally, I think she meant the latter, and her blank facial expression after she said it gives credence to my opinion.

      While I voted for the first option, I agree that she probably said,”All this for a flag?” She then shook her head in a disapproving manner. Her eyes also said the same. She obviously has disdain for the ceremony. They are both unworthy occupants of the White House. 2012 can’t come soon enough!!!

      I tend to agree with Beck based on body language. I actually read Obama as hearing his annoying wife out and then turning back to his “job.” The nod and smile looked more patronizing than anything.

      Secondly, I think Michele’s slight sneer and head shake at the end pretty clearly indicates that whatever she said about the flag was more negative than positive.

      No… that subdued head shake after BO’s agreement may as well be subtitled “Pfft!”. I can’t read lips, so honestly I don’t know what she said. But I CAN read emotions on peoples faces. It’s pretty clear that she is completely puzzled by what she is seeing. She doesn’t get it… which lends credibility to the latter.

      I can’t be sure but about the first part. It ends with ‘fold a flag’ in my opinion. I think the entire statement was “all that to fold a flag”

      Her facial expresion appears to be one of derision to me however. She rolls her eyes, purses her lips, and shakes her head dismisively and so does the president.

      Oh, I need to also say that before I watched the video, I was disgusted ithat The Blaze and Beck were accusing the First Lady of having said something like that After I watched it though, I was pretty sure she said something derisive based on her facial expression and that she did say something negative about the flag.

      Iagree that it says “all this for a flag” (don’t see damn in there). had the screen on zoom and full page. it, imho, is obvious that she is dissing the flag. Even their body language together is a negative reaction to the event . I’m sure her PR person is busy coming up with some PR cover and wording about what she was say…Im sure it will be good!

      She shakes her head in an inappropriate way as if to say she disagrees with the way something is being done or she has some kind of indifference to what is being done. All we can get from this is she is not happy right after she said whatever she said to the president. I for one, would have told my wife not to comment EVER in my ear as proceeding of any kind that are being over seen by the president of the USA. She is out of line for even speaking to him while the proceedings are underway. He does not need to know what you think because he is representing the country at this moment in time and should not be playing to whatever emotions or sentiments she might have regarding the ceremony. Someday she’ll be outed for certain and they will be no mistaking what she meant.

      From the age of 3 to 6 I grew up with a deaf kid my age. He had to read lips to communicate, and I learned to do the same.

      “Look at how they fold that flag” is what she said, and the expression on her mug is clearly one of smarmy contempt for the ceremony.

      Yes I agree and I voted for the first option only b/c she was probably thinking it. The shake of the head afterwards clear indicator she was not in approval of the ceremony and confirms whatever she said was not positive. Im sure we will eventually hear from Carnival Carney or some other regime lackey making a statement that we are all nuts and she said something completely opposite or some other excuse. Her actions and words in the past though tell us all we are right she was more than likely “condemning” the ceremony!       i’m not a lip reader but i think she said, all this for a f—–g flag. and of course BO agrees. her saying that fits with what they both have said about the good ole USA. i guess if it was a commie flag the ceremony would be ok. maybe she wants the American flag changed to a flag with OBAMA’s picture on it. we need a lip reader to tell us what she said for sure and if she was disrespectful it should be the lead story around the world. and BO agrees. but of course that will never happen.

      i have no idea what she said but i would suggest that the opinion of someone who is deaf and reads lips would be valuable. my mother was deaf in her later years but could tell you what anyone said as long as she could see the mouth move.

      You will see what you want her to say. Glenn could very easily hire an actual professional lip reader and body language expert to give their opinion. 

      The ceremony created an impression on Michelle, whether “look at how they fold the flag” or “all this for a flag” both can be said in a good or bad way. Shaking your head can be good or bad in “amazement”.

      I‘m no fan of Zero but sensationalizing something unsure isn’t kosher or truth. It’s assumption and guessing and that is all. Stand in Truth, not assumptions……

      She did not say “Look at how they fold that flag”. While you cannot tell exactly what she is saying, you can tell that there are more words that she said those words. And the extra words are just before her last word which appears to be flag. To me it looks like she might have said two words between the two words that had “f” in it.

      I saw this video Monday, I believe, forwarded in an email. I think that those who view this video will see what they want to see. I do not put too much faith in an expert’s abillity to lip-read, nor one “who has been deaf most his life and has had to read lips to communicate”. That all being said, I recommend reading Michelle Obama’s Princeton thesis on race relations….it is rather revealing on how she views America and race.

      Essentially, you do not have to read lips nor tea leaves to understand the way she percieves America, race, and social “justice”, or why it was not until Feb 18(?) 2008, that she felt pride in America.

      I got the impression it wasn’t about the flag, but it looked like the last word was about the bagpipes. The other thing is that she has been in public long enough that she may be making sure that she is not forming the sounds clear enough to be read.

      What if she really was letting Barry know “I’ve got to go to the bathroom,” can we really know what she said if she was trying to mask the comment at all?

      She’s already said so much, why bother with this one? If she was being mean spirited, then she knows, somehow the expression on BO‘s face I don’t think he even understood what she said.

      If you look, her lips give the “f” shape for fold with a hard consanant “d” at the end. the moose again gives the “f” for flag with thelips movement for a “g” at the end. I say she said, “Look at how they fold that flag,” but she shook her head in a not enthusiastic fashion. I believe her boday langauge shows contempt or disbelief that we could feel so much for our flag, our national identity and source of pride. I say thumbs down but two large fries up. She was educated at some of the best schools, had a $300,000 cushy job at a hospital in Chicago, yet she is disgusted with this country just like o-loser. No matter what….whatever she receives in her life, like since being First Lady, going on $10,000,000 worth of vacations, nothing, absolutely nothing will please her about our country. She, 99.9% of the time has a mean , very mean look on her face. That’s the exact look she had while watching the 911 ceremony and leaning to o-loser with her disgusting remarks. How a First Lady can behave like she did at a ceremony of such importance, honoring all the fallen on 911, is beyond my comprehension. I have never ever seen such disgusting behavior, done on purpose by a First Lady…..no class at all. She knows what she is doing and saying…….just like o-loser does. They are intentionally trying to destroy , We The People.

      I am also in the camp of her comments “Look at how they fold that flag”, and it certainly appears to me,that she had a definite look of disdain and disgust for the military honors rendered.Her body language certainly appears to me to be that of contempt for our military and for our Republic’s flag. In the interest of total disclosure, I didn’t vote for her husband nor will I ever.

      I believe she says, “All this JUST for a flag.”

      Her facial body language is one of general disapproval and disgust. As she leans into Barack, she slightly furrows her brow, which is a sign of anger or contempt. As she leans away, her eyes turn down and she pursed her lips, which could be a sign of holding back anger or contempt. Although looking down by itself can show some signs of submissiveness, in this case, the combination of looking down and the pursed lips is restrained contempt.

      Barack‘s reaction is one of support of Michelle’s statement — shaking his head in agreement and a giving her a knowing smile. He is sharing the moment with her in agreement.

      Progressives have a disdain for the flag, or any open display of patriotism. I know progressives who will not stand to salute the flag or recite the pledge of allegiance or stand to honor our troops, et cetera.

      It‘s the look of disgust on Michelle Obama’s face that tells the whole story. It’s one of severe contempt with a bit of an eye roll indicating severe biterness.

      Those who are declaring her words to be benign are not taking into consideration that it is THE LOOK that verifies the words are ones of abject disgust.

      A person doesn’t look extremely disgusted when he or she makes a harmless off-hand remark.

      She’s dissing the ceremony. There’s absolutely no question of it. She still hates this country and so does he, in its present form

      The only way they would like it and accept it is if blacks were in control and whites were a wee minority or not here at all.

      According to the kind of parties they have in the white house, with all the dancing going on, they probably feel as if replacing a solemn ceremony with dancing around the village campfire would be more appropriate.

      Michelle Obama is an incompetent boob who got her degree via AA and employment as well. No question about it. Her college thesis proves that unequivocally. Both have benefitted greatly by being in this country, but they still hate it in its present form.

      Can somebody name JUST ONE black who has ever shown gratitude for what he/she has received in this nation and said something like, ” In spite of its flaws I love my country?”

      There are none that I know of, and such rhetoric will never be heard either.

      The FNC video shows that Michelle makes TWO comments. The first time Obama turns to look directly at her, he nods and the corners of his mouth go slightly up. Then she makes another quick remark as he turns his head away, and the corners of his mouth clearly drop. Regardless of what Michelle said the first time, Obama’s body language shows a negative reaction to her second comment.

      I have a background in reading lips and body language techniques. Reading lips started with my father who was deaf. He taught me how to read lips and sign language. The military taught me the rest. That also included reading body language. after the military I went into law enforcement for the State and have undergone a substantial amount of training in this sphere of studies including Deceptive Body Language Observation and Recognition. Micro Expressions and much more. I have looked at and studied this video several times. This is what I think was said. “All this for a damn flag” If you look at the position of her lips when speaking she has a common movement with her tongue on her lips, A quick glance sideways can just be checking an interest or it can also be done to show irritation. The way she blinked her eyes. Rapid blinking blocks vision and can be an arrogant signal and the corners of her mouth going to the sides are always indicative of disgust along with the side to side movement of her head and the flaring of her nostrils all show this. The way that Obama looked back at her was just as telling of what she said. The sharp movement of his head and the corners of his mouth mimicking her. I could go on and on but I think you get my point. We have an administration that time and time again proves that they do not give a damn about it’s people or this country and what it stands for.       Regardless of what she said, or however you want to read her facial expressions, this is a petty and childish attempt to discredit without any factual grounds. There is an abundance of things to hate about these clowns. We don’t need to speculate for any more hate points and look petty and silly in the process. This is the sort of thing I expect from liberal pundits, not the party of tea and it’s so-called media representatives like Beck.

      At least make an effort to stay classy, people. We don’t have to stoop to their level.

      Oh God almighty, this is a new low. Lip reading? Seriously? Is there no limit to the idiocy the right wing will promote to slander the First Lady? I read the posts and you don’t seem retarded, but I’m having second thoughts.

      I think she said “Look at Elmo” or “what beautiful music” or “what a somber ceremony” or “the hills are alive with the sound of music.” Or maybe she said something that has to be played backwards to understand. But this website plants the idea about what she said and replays it 10 times until you imagine that, “Uh.. duh… it does sort of look like that…” Your being played for suckers for fools but you don’t care because it feels real good to hate the first lady and you need to justify that. So with some prompting you imagine that, yes, I have a good to hate her.

      The whole thing is a Rorschach test that says nothing about the First Lady, and everything about your hatred of her. Why do ya reckon you hate her so? Hmmm, could it be that…. Or maybe it’s that….

      Oh please, this is the 21st century! Tell me you don’t hate her just because… you know.

      Very Interesting. I just found a blog from ABC asking why Michelle wasn’t with hr husband at the 911 ceremony in 2008. Cindy McCain went with John, but no Michelle. The blogger first points out that while Michelle said she wanted to be home for the kids first week of school, she was also campaigning for Barack. Wonder if she doesn’t resent this day. GO check out this blog, it definitely raises the eyebrows. I hate to think she would be disrespectful, but the double take by Obama tells me that she wasn’t just pointing out something as if she never saw it before. He he is confirming an idea with her, not a statement. AS if she never seen a flag folded before being in the white house all that time.

      She clearly shakes her heard in disgust. I wish she would leave the country she hates so much. They are disgusting beyond belief. After they are thrown out on their asses for Hussein being the worst President in history (by far), the White House will have to be cleaned with so much disinfectant, it may become unsafe to live in. They are the product of affirmative action, and did not earn their degrees like most. If not, they should show their schools records. I think we all know that not only was there academic suspensions involved, Hussein took advantage of being a foreigner and and had standards relaxed for him. It‘s as obvious as the nose on one’s face, if you listen to either of them for more than 2 minutes you become keenly aware of the FACT that they are BOTH of below average intellect.

      This by far the most disgusting thing ever done by a President’s wife. I won’t call her First Lady because she is not a lady and she is not deserving of that title.

      I really think you guys are getting it wrong. I posted this earlier today. After she says the word “flag” she continues talking. I think she is saying “isn’t it?”. And I watched it over and over before I looked at the options of the pole in full screen. What I see, and that first word is so hard to see, I see “wonderful how they fold that flag, isn’t it?”. And Barack shakes his head in agreement. I hate these people. They absolutely disgust me, but I really think you guys are getting it wrong. If the comment is in you head before you see the video, then you will see what you read easier than what you would see before you saw the options of the poll. And please don’t bash me for having a different opinion, that’s just what I see. And people on here are seeing 3 or 4 different things. Just my opinion. But go back and look to see she continues to talk after she says the word “flag”. You might see what I’m seeing then…….

      Many people caught my mistake where I wrote that MO had a blank look on her face. I actually tried to note the correction immediately, but Blaze was having difficulty with posts this morning, so I gave up. Once I saw the clip of her shaking her head after he turned back, though, it only gave credence to my feeling that she said “All this for a flag” in the most negative way. This is not a petty issue! It is a “fly on the wall” moment that gives us proof of how they really feel (which we already knew!).

      I can’t imagine having those two at a military funeral.

      For them it seems to be about the immediate visual and inpatients…I’m sure she was in a hurry to get it over with. Now that is just based on my observations of her previous expressions at previous events and what she has stated.

      As for Obama in this situation, at least he knew to smile. LOL

      When I sold cemetery property to get thru college I was told, if I didn’t sell any to leave the husband and wife fighting. Pretty sure our catch has them talking to one another over this in the last two days.

      These were my thoughts as well. So sad, it breaks my heart. I feel bad for them that they have such little respect for our country and the lives of those that were lost. But when you think about it, It’s not about the flag it is about what the flag represents, Which is our Morales and Values, and the great Principles of this Awesome Nation, and the lives that have died to defend those things, it is those things she finds disgusting, and we have to respect that she is initialed to her opinion but We don’t have to agree with it!       I prefer the second video, it‘s much clearer and if you say it along with her it’s obvious to me that she says: “Look at how they fold that flag” and then rolls her eyes in disgust. Later in the same video she says: “All this for a damn flag”. Say it along with her and I believe it‘s pretty clear what she’s saying. Her body language and facial expressions tell you she is disgusted and wasting her time when she could be off on vacation somewhere.

      Looks to me like she’s saying, “All this to fold that flag?” The President nods then smiles, but then the First Lady shakes her head and rolls her eyes in a way that says, “I can’t believe all this fuss — what a waste of time”. The President has on his poker face and presidential posture, so we have no way of knowing whether he agreed or even grasped her disappointment? disgust? incredulity? So, he either was (1) humoring her, (2) agreeing with her, but playing to the camera, or (3) he didn’t even hear what she said.

      I’m a huge Beck fan, and I’m not an Obama supporter — but frankly I think it’s embarrassing that anyone, including Glenn, would waste their time on this. Where does this line of argument get us? We don’t actually know what she said! We can’t know, we can only guess. And by focusing so much on this stupid clip, making wild guesses about what she might have said and how disgusted we are with her for having maybe said what we think she said… we are just reinforcing the leftist notion that we are all just crazy, conspiracy-theorist nut jobs. Just like with the birther arguments.

      I agree that she is definitly talking about the Flag and shes upset by all the hoopla. I think she does give a look of discust as she sees all the stuff going on to “just” honer the Flag. On the other hand all I see in the Os look is the same look that husbands give to their wifes when they are not really listening to them. I have been guilty of this myself when I am looking at old cars or a parade for example. I have seen this look given by my friends too when they are looking at something and their wife says something and they look over and say “thats nice dear” and go back to what they were watching with out actually listening. I think thats what the Presedent was doing now he might agree with her but I am giving him the benifit of the doubt on this. She on the other hand gets no break. G.

      Her face wasn’t blank afterwards. I am a woman and believe me, that is the typical face a woman makes when she thinks something is absurd. She looks down, purses her lips together. Don’t know what she said about the flag, but her expression was not one of admiration or interest, it was dismay or slight disgust. Like when women are out with their husbands and an attractive woman walks by and one woman makes a snide remark about the other.

      You’ve gotta be kidding me. She OBVIOUSLY says folding the flag at the end. You‘re nuts if you think it’s something else or you want to believe something that simply isn’t there. I can’t stand the Obamas, but she said folding that flag or folding the flag.

      And she isn’t disgusted at all. I think she is in aw of sorts. Like, man, look how they are folding that flag, that’s awesome. Yes she could be saying the exact same thing in a bad way, but I strongly believe she was complimenting the soldiers and not dissing them. However, I won’t deny that she could be saying “look at how they are folding that flag” meaning that she can’t believe how much care they take for a stupid flag, but she is not swearing… And it is by no means obvious that she is dissing anyone or anything.

      It is obvious by her shaking head, Barrack’s smirk, and the fact that before she said it her eyebrows were in a questioning or disapproving position then changed to relief when her husband shook his head in agreement. When I combine these facts with the fact that the first time she EVER felt proud of her country was when it elected her husband, I can only come to the LOGICAL conclusion that whatever she said was not good and it probably was “look how they fold that flag” and it was meant in a disapproving manner. As though she is disgusted that anyone would have that much respect for a symbol of the nation that she is so “proud” of.

    Looks to me like she says “All this for a flag”

    The look in her eyes and the complete a total look of contempt is even more telling.
    The majority of us would be blinking back tears and showing the reverence of the moment. Neither one of them have ANY respect for America…………

      I agree that this is beneath The Blaze. I don‘t think she’s saying what everyone thinks (and there’s not anything about that woman that I like), but it seems so mean-spirited and sophomoric to spend all this energy on something we don’t know for sure. Somebody just ask her what she said.

      Ever heard of the Pledge of Allegiance? That oath we all used to take as kids, once upon a time, back when people actually respected this country and the flag?! People should be silent and show reverence to the flag and that should start with the President and the First Lady. PERIOD!!!! Without a question! That she had a look on her face and body language that was pure disgust, what came out of her mouth is darn nearly irrelevant but ya know what, we‘re 3 years in and it’s about 20 minutes past disgusting! Most of us can multitask and ya know what, it makes me sick and that you think it’s a non-issue….I say something when people talk during the anthem and the pledge wherever I am, never mind at Ground Zero on 9/11 and never mind that you’re on national TV. NOT EVEN COOL! And then the White House says it was nothing….if a conservative got caught doing that….we’d never hear the end of it! So yeah, it’s a big deal….especially since the MSM never paid mind to it…as usual.

    “Look how they’re folding that flag.”

    1.) This statement would be partially unoffensive IF our first lady had never before seen our flag being properly folded.

    2.) Our first lady has previously seen our flag being properly folded.

    3.) Therefore, her words in this video show an emotion of discust towards these actions.

    4.) The words “that flag,“ or even ”the flag,” in the context of such a sentence is offensive.

    5.) Our president’s emotions are one in the same..

      @TERIPA There are some very good Posts on here, but yours so far stands out. You are so right-on. She has seen the folding of the flag before, and there is no logical reason for her to be surprised or supposedly ‘giddy’ about the whole thing Her comment was degrading Our Flag.

      I totally agree, “Look at how they fold that flag” just does not make sense for someone to say. I didn’t get to watch the ceremony, but I assume that it was folded the same exact way that they fold it all the time, 13 folds so the blue shows on each size? No real room to jazz it up, or to do it more honorably or dignified, is there? I can totally see commenting on the events surrounding the folding, but not the actual folding.. it just doesn’t make any sense at all. I wish more people would bring up this point :\

      i saw “fold that flag” at the end of the statement, but that look of hers.. that wasn’t good… she definately said something about the flag and looked disgusted… …what a cuhnt.

      Conjecture and speculation, every last bit of it. Without context and clear audio to accompany what she was saying, there is no way you or anyone else can determine what she was saying or what she meant. I can’t wait to vote her husband out of office, but it will be on substantial grounds, not pettiness. Anything else makes us look like fools.

    Looks like “all this for folding a flag”. From the women who was only proud of of her country for the first time in her adult life when Barack “did well”. And, who preaches how we will need to change our history and our traditions. One might ask, why would you be talking at all at this moment? Further, I am sure she wanted people to see what she was saying…these people are cocky, arrogant and want to transform America. Get them out of the people’s house.

    I agree that it looks like she’s saying “look how they fold that flag.” It’s the look after the comment that condemns her. She doesn’t look awed, she looks like she thinks it’s a waste of time. President Obama didn‘t realize she wasn’t being reverent. He responds to the comment which would have been fine if not for the look. This makes me as mad as when I was at a sporting event earlier in the year: the anthem was playing & a lady was talking through it. When someone in the crowd asked her to be quiet she said, “Oh give me a break!” Some people just don’t understand how special our flag & anthem are.

    Look, everyone knows at this point that the President and his wife do not respect America, we know that the time he spent in Rev. Wright’s Church/Mosque that he was listening to the sermons. Remember, Rev. Wright did not send a limo to pick Obama up to come to church, Obama went there by choice.
    I can not imagine the first lady saying something that derogatory in public, however, I can imagine her saying something like that.
    Obama, during his first run, said of the US Flag, “I don’t wear that pin anymore”. Of course folks didn’t like that so he does wear it.
    Bottom line is, these two are the most untruthful pair I have ever seen “disgrace” the White House.
    You can’t believe anything they say and have to assume that they are lying by default.
    Glenn may be wrong this time. In my opinion.

      Her look of disdain says it all. I can’t disregard that. She can’t even look directly at the ceremony, she has to look at it while facing forward to some degree. Most people do this when they really don’t want to watch something, but they feel they need to for some reason.

      She is suffering through this ceremony. Let‘s make sure she won’t have to suffer through too many more of these. Vote the classless couple OUT in 2012
