Occupy Wall Street Cash and Computers Plundered by Thieves

It’s been mostly peace, love, and bongo drums for the Occupiers at their Zuccotti Park campground, but recently the leftists got a life lesson that they can’t blame on Wall Street.
Thousands of dollars in cash and pricey electronics have reportedly been stolen from the clutches of the anti-capitalist movement.
Stealthy thieves plundered the ramshackle living quarters of the Occupation last night, according to the New York Post, including $2500 in donations stolen from the kitchen. One protestor claimed his $5500 laptop was also taken.
“Stealing is our biggest problem right now,” one kitchen volunteer told the Post. Another protestor said of the current security situation:
“The worst thing is there’s people sleeping in the kitchen when they come, and they don’t even know about it! There are some really smart and sneaky thieves here.”
“I had umbrellas stolen, a fold-up bed I brought because my back is bad — they took that, too!” added another.
And still another: “I had my Mac stolen — that was like $5,500. Every night, something else is gone. Last night, our entire [kitchen] budget for the day was stolen, so the first thing I had to do was . . . get the message out to our supporters that we needed food!”
It’s unclear whether the Zuccotti burglars are outsiders or have been sleeping there for weeks. Considering it’s the “biggest problem,” though, it seems it might be an ongoing issue. Who knows, maybe they were protestors who decided the whole Communism thing just wasn’t working for them.
An even more interesting question at this point is, will Occupy Wall Street report it to the NYPD?
If so, Occupiers may now be forced to go facemask-in-hand to the officers they have spent weeks maligning, and ask for help in the future to identify suspicious activity.
Even if the cops agree to help, determining what constitutes “suspicious” in a an open air youth hostel could prove difficult.

Posted on October 18, 2011 at 1:26pmI don’t understand the complaints. Isn’t this what they wanted? Redistribution of wealth? Some of these folks had expensive computers, phones and gear (all purchased in a Capitalist market place). Some other folks didn’t. The ones who didn’t took matters into their own hands. Redistribution of wealth. Why should 1% of these 99%ers have expensive stuff and the other 99% don’t?
My message to the protesters: You made your point… the system is broken. Clean up your mess and go home. Start a bank or brokerage firm that offers better products than the Wall Street giants and put them out of business. Pay your workers no less than $20 an hour and no more than $199,000 a year.
Can’t? Why not? Your Government is protecting the Giants. That’s where your beef should be. You should be in DC demanding an end to the bailouts and special treatment.

I don’t think theft is funny for anyone. It the irony and hypocrocy that’s funny. Like when a Christian minister is caught in adultry, or a Socialist ruler lives in luxury. Funny, but sad at the same time.
These folks have been fed a lie that Capitalism is evil. Yet they feed the beast every day with the latest phones, computers and clothes. They need to be taught that it‘s not Capitalism that’s the problem. It’s “Crony” capitalism. That is, the unethical politician “accepting” the bribes and passing laws and regulations that favor some at the expense of others.

I don’t find it particularly humorous, theft is always wrong. However I don’t shy away from the fact that I find it an opportunity for these kids to learn hard lessons in life about their fellow man. When you realize that your fellow man is not some starry eyed idealist, and is not somebody who will act according to your interests or altruistically, then you start to come to the cold hard reality of why any form of socialism can never work, if it involves human beings.
It’s a hard lesson to learn, but a lesson that needs learned nevertheless. Some people come to it without hardship, others have to be moulded on the anvil of reality and pounded by the hammer of heartless logic when pulled from the fires of disillusionment.
Think about that for a moment before hitting reply.

Posted on October 18, 2011 at 3:25pmWill4Freedom, I get the irony. But the real irony is your support of the bank you use which is probably making record profits (like Bank of America) and at the same time is increasing your cost to bank there with new fees. When you see those extra fees, and realize banks are making more money than ever, and jacking the interest rate on credit card to 28% because you miss a payment, at least you have the comfort of believing, “oh well, that’s capitalism.”
I guess if a huge corporation is taking money from you, that’s okay. I guess it’s okay with you that the rich are getting richer and the poor and middle class – like you – are getting poorer and divide between the rich and everybody else is larger than any country in the industrialized world. Because, you know, our country isn’t about having policies that support the average person, it’s about supporting the top 1%, even though it’s at your expense and the expense of your children and the expense of the other 99% of the country. When did “for the people” become “for the richest 1% of people?” Why do you rally beind Cain’s 999 plan, which will tax you more and reduce taxes on the rich? When the top 1% own 100% of the wealth of the country, will you then pat yourself on the back and brag that there is no more robbery in the US?

If I deposit my money in Bank of America, then they are not taking my money from me, by definition. By depositing the money I voluntarily and readily agree to the terms of my use of their bank. They would only be stealing from me if I was not their customer and they sent out a teller to mug me. Given as there are a multitude of banks to choose from, I am under no obligation nor duress when choosing any bank. Your assertion thus fails.

It is fine if I signed a contract to pay them a certain amount, then they have a right to collect based on our mutual agreement. If they raise the cost, and I don’t/didn’t agree, I take my business elsewhere. How friggin hard is it to understand that? You take a job for a certain amount of pay, you have no right to complain how much the owner is making. As long as he gives you the agreed upon amount. The gap between rich and poor is growing because the middle folks are either dropping into the lower bracket or moving up into the higher one. There are more Rich people today than there ever has been. It is called ambition. You strive and you succeed. You sit back and whine, waiting for someone else to provide for you, you stay poor….pretty simple.

As for JZS’ second comment about banks: If you do not like the fees or interest rates charged by the banks, Capitalism allows you to change the banks you use. Maybe take your money to a local bank that does not charge those fees or interest. I see many commercials that those types of banks advertising to get your business. But why did banks think they needed to add fees and raise interest rates? That is the question that you should be asking. Has the government did something that caused the banks to allow this? How about the Federal Government allowing banks to transfer bad debt to a Fed controlled company (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are two examples). Why is it that at one time Mortgages were hard to get and lately it is too easy? Are the banks to blame for this? Could it be that our representatives have passed bad laws? Maybe the government deciding what businesses are too big to fail has something to do with the current issues?
The only difference between people stealing from the OWS folks and the current “Redistibution of Wealth” philosphy is one involves the government and one involves individuals with low morals. One of those can be punished and the other can do what it wants without concern of its citizens.

I guess that is the guy, this fellow man of yours, who doesn’t care about anyone but himself, whose only morality is enriching himself. This fellow man that you say is typical of humankind would take your money, pollute the water and air that your children drink for profit, and drive you down for his own success. Is that they guy you’re talking about? You’re right, that’s they guy to protesters are against. That was the guy Christ spoke about. Christ knew that guy too. And he did not support him. He in fact spoke in favor of the starry eyed idealism that say doesn’t exist, the human who would sacrifice his own to help his “fellow man.” I don’t believe that all people are that way, you’re not, but many are, and I think that’s the best of human nature.
You made a broad claim that “socialism will never work.” But it occurs to me that public libraries are communally owned property that everyone benefits from (socialism) . Public parks, communally owned. Streets, bridges, highways, streetlights, all owned by the community for the benefit of all. That works right? Too late to say you “you earned it, you keep it” by, just a guess, 20 years. You’ve have benefited from the richest (that would not include me) for that length of time for everything your community provides and the federal government provides: the military, police, the fire department, upkeep of roads, your children’s education, libraries, the street in front of your house, the monuments and attractions in DC, protection of the foods you eat, the water you drink and the air you breath.
Sorry Billy, you’re late. You’re a moocher. You’ve been benefiting from the rich for a long time. You seem to treasure the idea you are superior to those that are poorer than you. You seem to not know, or believe, the Christian expression “there but for the Grace of God go I.”

Of all the things you named here, the only things that are rightfully within the pervue of the Federal government are the military, the maintenance of the monuments in DC (which might actually be better maintained by philanthropists looking for a tax write-off), and SOME of the functions of the Dept of Agriculture (food and water). The rest that you named are– or SHOULD be– under local control, especially education. The Dept of Education has destroyed actual learning in the US.

One thing you said that I must address here.
You> “I guess if a huge corporation is taking money from you, that’s okay.”
Me> Huge corporations don’t come to my house or bank and take my money by force. I willingly give to them in exchange for some good or service that I feel is worth the price. So do you. And in a Free Market, which we NO LONGER HAVE, if a company starts to get rake in huge profits, its an indicator that their product or service is in demand. Other companies or individuals will attempt to move into that market to meet the demand and share in the profits.
But our politicians have accepted bribes and passed laws and regulations that make competition more difficult. So where should your anger be? The one who offers the bribe or the ones accepting the bribe and passing legislation that LIMITS our choices?

Posted on October 18, 2011 at 2:48pmYes of course JROOK…and the solution to it all is to arbitrarily take from “Wall Street” whenever the left decides it needs more money. And of course..to do that, we need bigger government that will demand the taxes as well as redistribute the money to whatever pet cause any politician (he has to be a democrat and as far left as possible of course) has…like free college tuition, a “living wage” even if you’re not working, how about a minimum wage of $20.00? There is a difference between mismanagement which leads to bank failure and knowingly misrepresenting securities and providing fictitious insurance in the form of credit default swaps with no assets behind it. The bankers involved knew exactly what they were peddling and please don’t give me Congress forced them to lend to the poor crap. We have the best politicians money can buy. We have the best Capitalism the large corporations and wealthy allow. Take a break from you ideology and track how many government regulations are suggested and lobbied for by big corporations to create barriers to entry and limit competition. You need a good dose of reality my friend. The nonsense that is discussed here about society, the economy and politics is the parlor game the wealthy and wealthy corporations provide for the masses. The two issues that are plague our economy right now are the outsourcing of jobs to slave labor in developing countries and the impact on real wages in the US and the concentration of wealth which dramatically slows down the velocity by which money moves through the economy.

So…..you are saying that the bankers put politicians in their offices and these puppets (notably the chief puppet right now, Obama) have no choice but to do exactly what Goldman Sachs says. Wow….just wow.
And, yes, since I happen to know that industry very well, I can absolutely assure you Congress did, in fact, mandate banks to make loans to high risk borrowers in their infinite wisdom of equal lending. Research CRA…..oops I mean, the Community Reinvestment Act, which dates back to the Carter Administration then was bastardized by the Clinton Administration. And there, my friend, you have the housing crisis/collapse after it’s beautiful execution that failed after years of abuse under Bush. It didn’t happen overnight. Your idealogy is fraught with misconceptions, to say the least.
Oh and before you come back with the typical retort……yes, Wall Street as well as Main Street, in a case study of pure greed, took full advantage of the situation. But, the problem absolutely started with D.C. and it is there where the protests should be occurring.

You have only made the argument here that we should be angry at both the Federal Government and Wall Street. Yet, why not Main Street? They surely corrupted the system as well. And why is OWS only targeting conservatives? Why aren’t they targeting Immelt, union bosses, etc? My favorite is Jamie Dimon who was hailed as a hero and is now targeted because he is proposedly endorsing Romney. Posted on October 18, 2011 at 1:19pmThere can be no compromise with these mercenaries. The only compromise, they will accept are those that increase their power and escalate the violence. Do not forget that chaos and violence is the objective of these mercenaries’ leaders.
The chaos justifying the declaration of martial law and suspension of the Constitution requires considerable violence. Sufficient force must be brought to bear on these mercenaries to end this civil disobedience before the American Revolution ends in a dictatorship. It is much later than you think!
Mr. Obama’s declaration of martial law will certainly precipitate armed revolution. The important question is not if Mr. Obama will succeed in becoming a Dictator or be replaced by the leader of the revolution. The question is if successful in deposing Mr. Obama, will the leader of that revolution refuse the crown and reinstate the Constitution or will he, like Castro assume dictatorial powers. When the Revolutionary Leader seizes power, a hollow promise to reinstate the Constitution and hold free elections within one year will likely be issued. George Washington is unique in history the Revolutionary Leader almost always assumes the Crown.
The survival of the United States as a free and prosperous nation is very unlikely in the event of armed revolution. The identity of the final dictator will be irrelevant as the world sinks back into the Middle Ages. http://commonsense21c.com/

When I point out that they have no legal provisions to declare martial law at all, anywhere, that’s me pointing out to the more law & order inclined that they have no responsibility to obey any such declaration nor follow any directives from any leaders of such a coup d’etat.
