What Does Atheist Physicist Stephen Hawking Ponder Most? Women

Stephen Hawking Turns 70 and Shares His Thoughts on Discoveries, Future Research and More

Stephen Hawking in 1942.

Famed physicist Stephen Hawking turns 70 this Sunday and in an exclusive interview with New Scientist, he explains his biggest mistake, hopes for future discoveries and the topic that occupies his thoughts most of the time.

New Scientist reports that when Hawking received the diagnosis of ALS when he was 21, it was expected he would only live a few years. Far surpassing that projection, Hawking went on to make notable discoveries in the field of physics with the most famous being perhaps his discoveries involving black holes. Hawking communicates using a computer controlled by twitching his cheek and he is currently looking for an assistant to maintain the system, among other duties, which we reported last month.

New Scientist asked Hawking what he considered his “biggest blunder,” to which Hawking responded:

I used to think that information was destroyed in black holes. But the AdS/CFT correspondence led me to change my mind. This was my biggest blunder, or at least my biggest blunder in science.

New Scientist goes on to explain that Hawking long held that information was destroyed in black holes but in 1997 Juan Maldacena created a mathematical shortcut. Using this shortcut in 2004, Hawking showed that information from black holes can escape back into the universe. New Scientist explains that with this blunder Hawking lost a bet to theorist John Preskill.

When asked what he would do if he were younger and just beginning his career as a physicist, Hawking said he would come up with an idea that would create a whole new field of research.

Finally, New Scientist and Hawking leaves readers with the subject he thinks about most on a daily basis. Women. “They are a complete mystery,” Hawking wrote to New Scientist.

In regard to his disease, Ammar Al-Chalabi, director of the Motor Neurone Disease Care and Research Centre, at King‘s College Londonsaid that he hasn’t seen anyone defy the disease and live as long as Hawking.

“It is unusual for (motor neurone disease) patients to survive for decades, but not unheard of,” said Dr. Rup Tandan, a neurology professor at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. Still, Tandan said many longtime survivors had ventilators to breathe for them – -which Hawking does not.

To mark his birthday Sunday, Cambridge University is holding a public symposium on “The State of the Universe,” featuring talks from 27 leading scientists, including Hawking himself. For 30 years, he held a mathematics post at the university previously held by Sir Isaac Newton. Hawking retired from that position in 2009 and is now director of research at the university’s Centre for Theoretical Cosmology.

Hawking achieved all that despite being nearly entirely paralyzed and in a wheelchair since 1970. Since catching pneumonia in 1985, Hawking has needed around-the-clock care and relies on a computer and voice synthesizer to speak.

A tiny infrared sensor sits on his glasses, hooked up to a computer. The sensor detects Hawking’s cheek pulses, which select words displayed on a computer screen. The chosen words are then spoken by the voice synthesizer. It can take up to 10 minutes for Hawking to formulate a single sentence.

hawking better be pondering his relationship with GOD. if he doesn’t repent and accept christ as his personal saviour, he is doomed to rot in hell. he still has a chance but i dont see it happening. all we can do is pray that he will have a change of heart……………………………….

to LWNMWRMN, God knows the heart… If a person spends their life hating and disparaging God and expects in the end to just say “I’m sorry, I believe, now let me into heaven.” they are in for a rude awakening. A person must be truly repentant, not just pay lip service, God knows the difference.

I’m ecstatic over anyone who repents, even on their deathbed. If Hitler on his deathbed had truly repented and trusted in Jesus, he would have stood before God clothed in the righteousness of Christ. That doesn’t downplay the heinousness of what he did. You probably think it does, but it doesn’t, because what Christ did on the cross really was that powerful. Hitler’s sin, and yours, and mine, are nothing compared to the mighty grace of God to forgive, cleanse and restore. I know from experience, because I’ve done some awful things, and if He can forgive me, He can forgive anyone.

If he turns 70 this week, he was BORN in 1942. The photo shows a man in his late 20‘s to early 30’s, which if taken in 1942 would mean he was turning about 100 this year.
Just pointing that out if no one else has.

For another, they keep trying to annihilate the jews, but that’s not working, same God. So all I can say is na na na na na. You can’t get us! You are really not doing yourself any favors by being so angry at such a warm and loving group of people who believe in such a God that would give us His Son so that we can live FOREVER!! Woo Hoo! Actually, this American Man thinks that, realistically and absent emotion, Bachman won’t be President solely because she cannot beat Obama. (Also the fact she is no longer running for President has much to do with it). I don’t think she is evil or crazy any more than I think Obama is evil or crazy.

Personally, regardless of gender, I refuse to consider anyone evil or crazy absent some overt evil or crazy act(s) or pattern of behavior.

Stating “It’s the 21st century and American men still have some of the same opinions about women as the Taliban.” is a dangerous generalization. Out of the 150 million or so males in America, I guarantee you can find a man who will disprove this premise.
You claim would be no different than me saying “I’m tired of young women. They all act like Snookie from Jersey Shore, shallow, superficial, and selfish, every one.” And yes, that statement is true for many women I meet, but to ascribe those characteristics to all women as a blanket statement is not only inaccurate, It’s intellectually dishonest.

@ conservative woman. By that logic then I must be a racist because I cant stand Obama. Bachman was a little over the top. In a situation where the first black President was over the top, If you want to shoot for the first woman president title you should maybe tone down your campaign rhetoric. Just like what was said on becks radio show a few days ago, we went for charismatic and in your face with Obama and look where we are. It has nothing to do with her gender. The President is not supposed to be a singular person but rather an institution that embodies the whole of the American public.

Women are precsely what the KJB says they are.

Materialist, above all. While man was made from Earth and Spirit, Woman was made from Flesh and Spirit.

All he knows he does not understand Masculine Thought and Feminine thought.

Masculine is in the areana of creation and concepts. Feminine is in the realm of utility and security.
Beyond function, there is also hormones which drive the brain not to mention 10 billion more feminine connections which make them get ahead of themselves and into trouble.

Western Civilization is no longer Masculine and no longer produces. It is purely consumptive Feminine. Therefore economically, socially, and spiritually it is dead, for no human civilization can be sustained.on consumption, it requires Patriarchy.

The reason the Western Mind does not understand this is due to the ethical failure which preceeded the Maternalization of the Western Mind. The conversion of Pat. to Mat. was due to the ethical lapse, or sin, of corrupt Patriarchs seeking free sex, wihtout binders and consequence.

Thus the Family, as the founder of State, collapsed and took everything else with it.

So Mr. Hawking, if you will not read the KJB, read about Masculine Overt Active, Feminie subvert Receptive, or Anode and Cathode. THis is not about two forces that work against each other, but two combined forces.

      @ sister1_rm

Science cannot tell the fine line between life and death?? WRONG! Simple definition, that always holds true..

If the “thing” under question has active cells – it’s alive
      If not – It’s dead

I don’t know where you went to school, but this was pretty much explained to me and my classmates when we were in elementary science class…

“Life” is defined by cellular activity. If the cells and molecules in an item under test have no cellular activity it is a “lifeless” object… If at one time it DID have cellular activity, it is now dead.. If it never had cellular activity, it was never alive to begin with….

Its not that hard, and only takes a little common sense. I can understand you not remembering this, after all, IF you learned it, you learned it so long ago that you have forgotten that basic definition, or you went to a really liberal school that does not educate children.. I am hoping that you just simply have forgotten..

@Onikaze – tell that to the U.S. Supreme Court

Oh yes that is right, the same body whose logic was used by Hitler (Buck v. Bell)

Oh yes the same body who cause the Civil War and got it incredibly wrong (Dredd Scott)

The Same body that said people could be driven off their land so that a larger taxpayer could take tennancy, as that constituted Public need. (Kelo v. CIty of New London) [the land remains vacant to this day]

AH! Greed, prejudice, selfishness, and faithlessness, drive the allegedly great minds of man.

Physicists don’t learn from books, they learn from observation, experimentation and the application of empirical truths of mathematics, chemistry and physics. The speed of light, relative gravity, and trigonometry are not fact because they appear in a book, but because they are observable, demonstrable, and measurable.
It is the superticious religious community that is dependent on books, and works of fiction at that.

Because morons like you DO believe it. If you could keep your imaginary friends to yourself, we would back off. But as long as you try to put trash in our schools (intelligent design), and place your nonsense in the public square, we will continue to fight. And for that matter, ultimately destroy you.

It isn’t all that uncommon for people with disabilities to doubt the existence of God, though many with such disabilities have a great abiding faith in God. I just choose not to judge another’s heart. Peace.

@Deeberj You’re right about women being crazy, however men aren’t clueless. Just every time you women are around us, much of the blood, that’s usually in our brains, has gone elsewhere.
