‘What if MoveOn Disappeared?’ Leftist Group Claims it Needs $400K ASAP to Prevent Going Belly Up

“Imagine if MoveOn disappeared?” That’s the warning in a newly released email from the Soros-backed leftist organization MoveOn.org.
Executive Director Justin Ruben claims that the organization could go under if supporters don’t collectively contribute $400,000 immediately.
Ruben wrote:
“Imagine if MoveOn disappeared and the work so many people do through MoveOn stopped happening altogether. Not to get technical, but it would be bad. To avoid that—to keep MoveOn going and growing—costs money, even though we keep our staff small and work from home to keep overhead low. Right now, to make ends meet, we need to raise $400,000 by the end of the year.”
“That’s not a lot—in fact if every MoveOn member gave just 5 cents, we’d be all set. If every MoveOn member gave a few dollars, it would cover our budget for years,” he adds.
But as U.S. News‘ Paul Bedard suggests, “even a shrunken MoveOn would be a blow to Democrats in the upcoming 2012 elections.” He adds, “the group has a strong record of conducting voter education campaigns and running provocative ads.
The following is Ruben’s e-mail to MoveOn members via U.S. News:
Dear MoveOn member,
Between work or school, and paying the bills, and taking out the trash, and checking out that new XBox/trashy novel/cookbook/finger painting set, you probably don’t think about MoveOn too much.
When you do, you probably think we send you too much email. Almost everyone thinks we do (except my mother-in-law, God bless her).
But you’re probably also glad for the work that gets done thanks to all those emails. Glad that whenever the Republicans come after working Americans, MoveOn members are there fighting back. That whenever a proud progressive like Elizabeth Warren comes under attack, we stick up for them. That every day, MoveOn is a channel for millions of people to speak truth to the powerful—Republican OR Democrat.
Twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, we’re a rapid response progressive political alarm system. Sure, sometimes you just click delete. But imagine if MoveOn disappeared and the work so many people do through MoveOn stopped happening altogether.
Not to get technical, but it would be bad.
To avoid that—to keep MoveOn going and growing—costs money, even though we keep our staff small and work from home to keep overhead low. Right now, to make ends meet, we need to raise $400,000 by the end of the year.
That’s not a lot—in fact if every MoveOn member gave just 5 cents, we’d be all set. If every MoveOn member gave a few dollars, it would cover our budget for years.
Sadly though, not everyone can. Too many MoveOn members are unemployed, or have seen their hours or benefits cut, or are having health problems—and really truly can’t afford anything.
So if you’re blessed enough this holiday season to have a few bucks in your pocket, please chip in to keep MoveOn fighting hard for the issues we all care about. And if you can afford it, kick in a couple extra to cover some folks who are hurting.
At the end of the day, MoveOn is its members—we‘re a platform for millions of people from all walks of life who take time out of busy lives to fight for what’s right. Please donate $5 so we can keep being there for every important fight in 2012.
Thanks for all you do,
–Justin and the rest of the team
Meanwhile, it is likely that one of MoveOn’s most financially powerful supporters, Soros, will contribute to the faltering organization if its other members fail to do so.

Posted on December 20, 2011 at 7:23pmSo if every liberal donated 5 cents, they’d be fine. Good luck with that! Charity and liberals don’t fit in the same sentence. They’ll wait for Obama, cause God knows the country can’t function without Moveon.

Posted on December 20, 2011 at 9:10pmYou are wrong in saying liberals and charity don’t go in the same sentence. They are all about charity. They want everyone else to spend money on their causes. They just won’t come off their own wallets. They are great at spending other people’s cash!

Posted on December 20, 2011 at 7:31pm“I can’t believe that Move On supporters believe that Republicans are against working people.”
Well let’s be fair. Which Republicans, which people, and how do you define “working against”? It’s kind of like Mad Libs, but some of them work into reality.
House Republicans today struck down a bipartisan Senate bill, effectively raising taxes by 2% on the 53% of Americans who pay income tax. That would be accurate across all fronts, for example. As a tax payer, I’m pretty pissed. This is one of the first times that some of the actions of the House GOP have come back and bit me, a person who voted specifically to get some of them elected, right in my wallet. I expect Democrats to raise taxes. I was happy to see Senate Republicans actually work some compromise. And then it ends with the House GOP killing the bill, just so Obama can’t get political points. I want to get rid of the Democrats exactly for this reason! It makes me see red that our GOP reps are just playing the same game!
All that’s off topic, of course. Anyone who believes MoveOn is going to go under is delusional. As long as it helps the Dems, sponsors will step up and fill out the gaps to help in 2012.

Report Post »There are two bills. The short term bill that gives a tax cut for two months and the long term that gives a cut for one year. The house passed the long term and the senate passed the short term. Why would you vote on the short term bill when there is a long term bill in the works?
