What Was Life Really Like Under a Communist Regime? These Survivors Tell Beck

During his Friday evening broadcast, Glenn Beck hosted a panel comprising survivors of Communist regimes. Each took time to relive their painful stories and share opinions on Western society’s current, inexplicable exultation of socialism and Communism.
The panelists hailed from all over the world, including Cuba, Cambodia, East Germany and various countries of the former Soviet Union, to name a few. Their personal accounts of experiencing food rations, religious persecution, confiscation of business, imprisonment, murder and assault on personal freedom, rang hauntingly familiar to one another’s.
Below panelists tell Beck about life in the former USSR:
Explaining the “State’s” omnipotence, survivors noted how god was completely taken out of the equation under Communism, thus leaving people with nothing to rely on in terms of faith and religion.
One panelist explained a scenario where, if a child found a bible under his parents’ bed he would likely tell the authorities, as he had, from an early age, been conditioned by the state to do so. The overriding question in one’s mind while living in a state of paranoia is: if one cannot even trust his or her own family, then how can one trust their neighbor?
Another chilling account came from a Cuban exile whose ex-husband was ordered to film the execution of 70 prisoners captured by Fidel and Raul Castro. Upon realizing that everything Fidel stood for “was a lie,” he too became the hunted.
The panelists, who embody living, walking, breathing history, also expressed concern over the path America is currently traveling. Many observed that the country has changed greatly since they first arrived. One even said his distress has been so great, he cannot “sleep peacefully” anymore.
At the conclusion of the program, Beck asked the panelists to tell Americans one thing they must look for in the current heated political climate. The following is a sampling of their answers:
“We need to wake up.”
“Don’t take freedom for granted…get informed.”
“The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
“Freedom and truth are precious to those who don’t have it.”
“If control from the central government continues, friends will turn on you to save their own hides.”
“Watch out for big government.”
“Libertad, libertad, libertad.”
“Beware of wolves in sheep’s clothing.”
“Parents must be more vigilant about the education system.”
“Indoctrination is subtle…watch out for labor unions.”
“Socialism and Communism are the same.”
“Don’t take life for granted.”
“It can happen here. Look at the signals, they’re there.”

Hitler killed 12 million (7 million Jews), Stalin killed 20-30 million Soviets, Mao killed 40-90 million Chinese, Pol Pot killed 3 million (just for wearing glasses). Does this not give you a sense that these tyrannical regimes don’t really care about human life or justice, but just the means to an end? Go read a real history book pre-1960, before the Progressives got a hold of them, and the truth will slam you in the face. Not only that, central planning does not work, communal living does not work, just take a peek at Europe and what is happening there right now under Socialism. I hope all Americans wake up soon, or it will be too late, and our freedoms (what little we have left) will be gone!
Hyperinflation will soon manifest itself here too, couple that with high unemployment and stagnant wages = STAGFLATION. We will be in a world of hurt when this comes to fruition, mark my words!

I was one of fortunate ones to escape from a former socialist country and it pains me to see the path we are going. Every day we loose a little bit of our freedoms. Remember the story about boiling a frog. We will end up like the frog if we do not stop these commies from finishing what they started. All this was happening with the tacit consent of the media. If anyone dared speak up or resist they were rounded up and labeled enemies of the state and executed or imprisoned. Believe me it was not a country club with cable tv, gym, or 3 nutritious meals a day.

I pray every day for the good Lord to bless us and keep us safe, and also to make my family strong in the darkness of evil. Saying it’s scary is an understatement. I have tried telling my family and friends, but they still have their heads in the sand. I feel so sorry for them, they have no idea what may happen around the corner. The only thing I can do now is prepare in terms of food, water, and ammo. My ship is leaving without them. The only rhing I can do now is stay informed, get involved in my community, and pray, and then pray some more. God Bless you friend. You have been down that road and that‘s a road I don’t want to go on.

In it, you’ll find similar stories of people who escaped tyranny, told in their own words. A thumbnail history of each country sets the stage. We interviewed each of them through the spring of 2010, and they were all right. It’s crucial to know what tyranny looks like at the beginning – we’ve all seen how it ends. The book is suitable for kids about 9 and older. It‘s so important for them to know what it’s like from the inside… much in the way The Diary of Anne Frank opened my eyes when I was a child. Once they’re in power, they don’t just eliminate their opponents, they also turn on each other like rabid dogs. Communist prisons have been filled with loyal Communists who stab each other in the back and trump up false charges to get a potential rival out of the way to further their own careers. Then they become paranoid, afraid that someone else will do the same thing to them. It turns into a constant struggle to do it to them before they do it to you, or you’re dead. Communist prisons are very horrid places. Read the writings of Richard Wurmbrand, who spent 14 years in Romanian prisons for his faith in Jesus.

I can say this because I grew up with parents and grandparents who lived under Communism and Nazism. I heard the stories every day. I also heard of how the Americans gave food to the people of Vienna when they were literally starving. They were the good guys.
Commonality Among Marxist Regimes
1. Language is twisted. I call this the Marxist Twist. Good means bad, peace means war, etc.
2. Free speech, protest, is not tolerated.
3. Faith must be silenced and eliminated.
4. Education becomes brain-washing the children. They are taught to rat on the adults.
5. Businesses and land are taken over for the “good of the people”
6. It’s just another caste society with the upper echelon members getting everything. Crumbs for the rest.
There IS equality – in the wretchedness of the resulting poverty.
As Glenn asked: as America falls, where is there to run to? That’s exactly what my mother says.

But, my parents grandparents, relatives and friends experienced life before and after the revolution in Cuba. To this day it is the subject of many locally produced Spanish language television programs. Therein lies the problem. Because our tragic history is recorded in Spanish it is virtually unavailable for english speaking Americans to learn from. The Elian Gonzalez drama is an excellent example of the lack of understanding Amercans had about life in a communist state. We returned the boy to live out his days as a puppet/trophy for the regime. His American family never profited in any way as so many said they would.

A great book on this subject was recently published by David Satter called “It Was a Long Time Ago, and It Never Happened Anyway: Russia and the Communist Past.”
I highly recommend it to everyone not only as a means of understanding the horrors of Bolshevism but also as a means of understanding the modern Russian mindset.
Its a great read.

Today I watched a fabulous show on EWTN, the Catholic channel about the ministry in Russia,. the horrors these people faced were just awful and I fear this is beginning to start here. Our children need to be watching and reading these things. we need them to know how to think not what to think and be able to process it. Any moms out there the sound of music is a great one we all love but teaches the threatening stance of communist governments to children in a very good way.

It was pretty apparent that he is trying to warn enough people so that replay the same mistakes from history. Many of us already know , but there are always some who were to busy, forgetful, oir just never knew.

It was too early, the country fought back but it planted a seed. For 20 years, that seed germinated and grew. The education system used the next generation to indoctrinate and prepare, tilling the ground for this new attempt to enslave the people. During that time, the “Greatest Generation” who fought and won the Cold War has largely passed from this life. We have become a people who “knew not Joseph;” the knowledge of the tyranny of Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and Castro. NOW we have leaders that reverence and idolize those monsters; what else can we EXPECT lying ahead, if we can’t stop this train?
Listen to the people who lived it, who STILL have the cultural memories of what hell on earth was. The Marxist tyrants didn’t go away; they slipped under the surface like a croc – out of sight, out of mind, until the next opportunity to strike arises.
The difference THIS time seems that the move isn’t on any particular nation. There seems to be an effort to enslave and ultimately murder the majority of the people on this planet. Marxist tyrants, Islamist tyrants, racist tyrants – the flavor doesn’t matter; they all are deadly poisonous. As a Christian, I sense an end-time scenario playing out. That is why I continually cry to seek the Creator, to purify your lives according to HIS expectations, and to be drawn to HIS salvation

That's how it works. The regime takes a bit of your economic choice here, a bit of your freedom there, all in exchange for doing it for you… because you're downtrodden, you're a victim, you've been cheated. When Glenn talks about the normalcy bias, this is exactly what he means. No one believes it could happen… I think we all went through that denial. Here? In America? And while we live in that normalcy bias, the tyranny creeps in, setting the framework, setting the trap.
Everything we live by – our Bill of Rights – is based on self-determination. Anything a government pushes at us, whether by guile, bribery, deception, or outright force, that undermines our self-determination is squarely against what our Creator blessed us with.
Oh, and it's damn near impossible to leave a tyrannical country… just listen to those who did because they had no other choice. We cannot allow that to happen here.
The good news? We know what's happened, what's happening, and what would be to come.
