What Was Named Science’s Top Breakthrough of the Year?

Each year the American Association for Advancement in Science names a top 10 list of scientific breakthroughs for the year. This year, a study finding that taking antiretroviral drugs helped reduce transmission of the disease by 96 percent took top honors.
This finding, AAAS states, ended a long debate over whether taking antiretroviral drugs could not only benefit the patient with the virus but also act as a preventative measure by cutting transmission. Research from the University of North Carolina’s School of Medicine in Chapel Hill and an international team of colleagues found that the drugs can act as treatment and prevention when it comes to HIV.
Here are the runners-up from Science magazine:
- Hayabusa, Japan’s spacecraft, solved the mystery of the source of Earth’s most common meteorites.
- Most humans have DNA that is evidence of “ancient interbreeding” with Neanderthals. (Read The Blaze blog post where Bill Clinton jokes that he’s part Neanderthal.)
- Japanese researcher map Photosystem II, a protein in photosynthesis.
- Observation of pristine clouds of hydrogen gas, which scientists speculate could be left over from the big bang.
- Discovery of three different enterotypes, types of bacteria ecosystems, in the human gut.
- Human trials of malarial vaccine RTS,S show more promising results.
- Discovery of hundreds of exoplanets, some of which have been compared to Earth in temperature and size. (Find more Blaze articles on these discoveries here.)
- New, cheaper methods for customizing the size or pores and membranes of zeolites, material used for absorption in commercial applications such as water purification and laundry detergents.
- “Dead cells”, those that are no longer dividing contribute to aging of other cells. Removing these cells could help humans live healthier, longer lives. (Read more on this research in this Blaze article.)

As a christian please do not be hateful of others for their choices> Jesus says to love them, because their sin is not greater or worse than ours. We are not better just forgiven.

Posted on December 24, 2011 at 2:56pmThis treatment and prevention is not 100% effective. Moreover, it will not prevent the virus from mutating.
It the MSM population continues to engage in high-risk sexual activities (which is their goal), they could continue to produce more resistant HIV virus types, rendering this treatment ineffective.
Researchers have achieved similar breakthroughs in the past only to have the participants continue their dangerous behaviors, and causing the HIV virus to mutate. Then scientists have to start the drug development process all over again.
The only 100% prevention is self-control (aka abstinence).

The Big Bang is the opening end of a system (The spontaneous introduction of the total energy in the universe at a single moment in space-time). Once again, the spontaneous creation of mass-energy. I find this to be inconsistent with your claim that nothing can be created, hence my questioning of your initial assertion.

Posted on December 24, 2011 at 9:55amI wanted to add one more piece of food for thought. How many years have we been seeing organizations collecting money for womens breat cancer research? And how much money do they get each year? Then look to see what they found. They seem to be looking for a cure, which hasn’t happened. Either way you look at it, a cure would mean they treat someone once or a few times… making money on that treatment. While no one wants anyone to suffer with cancer, the point is… if they found what caused it, it would save women from suffering cancer to begin with, plus save them money, time, and the fear of having it. It just seems to me to be the money, not about anyones health. Either medical science is incapable (hard to think after we have gone to the moon, can make plenty of things to kill people, have cell phones, etc.) or it’s about the money, just like in politics where they say one thing, take money from the oppossing side, then do the opposite. Is it hard to think that far knowing how politicians do business in D.C.?

They are huge progressives who use the organization of small groups of people to fund more democrat campaigns. They appeal to the public’s sense of sympathy to get more donations. They hold different fundraising walks or silent auctions or whatever to gain more money for the foundation. The foundation grows like big government and becomes more and more corrupt.

Posted on December 24, 2011 at 9:44amI do not trust anything medical science comes up with. Pahrmaceutical drug manufacturers are out to make money, as we can see, they cure little of nothing. Just like cancers… they look for drugs and chemicals to try and get rid of them, but not stop them from happening, which is the best appraoch. But then that does not make multiple companies money as for testing, and companies that make chemo drugs or doctors that perform surgeries. Pills, pills, and more pills! that’s the answer! If they were looking out for our healkth and not taking our money, they would find the cancer causing substances and start there. Funny how they pat themselves on the back for something is, as for my opinion as failure. Herbalist are made to look like quacks by the medical profession, when they themselves are harming more people than they are helping them. So, not only are we being decieved about the man-made global warming, among other things, we are being deceived by the medical profession. I say, no awards, or pats on the back for another drug with side effects.

Report Post »V-MAN MACE
Posted on December 24, 2011 at 8:59amColloidal silver works because of the electrical conductivity of the metal. Did you know that gold has a natural electric potential that approximates the golden ratio (+1.68)? Gold Nanopowder has some beneficial properties in the body as well. The gold particles attach to the telomeres of DNA strands, making them more electrically conductive…the electrical current induced by the earth capacitor is a self-organizing vortex that rearranges DNA into the correct golden-ratio structure… Gold nanoparticles are called ORME (orbitally rearranged molecular elements- AKA.. the smallest molecular configuration that retains the original elemental properties).
In other words, this is the same technology as the Kanzius Machine (the story that the moderators blocked me from commenting on).
You dope the subject with iron particles that find their way to the cancer, increasing the electrical conductivity of the cell, which allows it to be targetted with a specific electromagnetic wave (radio) that causes resistance heating which kills the cell while leaving other cells intact.
Creating the correct electrical environment will neutralize or kill ALL viruses, diseases, etc.
Think “electric fence”… for your body.
