What Were Steve Jobs’ Final Words? You Might be Surprised

Steve Jobs was a man of pointed words and catch phrases. But his final words are perhaps the most poignant, leaving us making assumptions of what he meant.

Steve Jobs Last Words Oh Wow

Mona Simpson, Steve Jobs' biological sister.

During a eulogy delivered on October 16, Jobs’s sister, Mona Simpson, said his final words were “OH WOW. OH WOW. OH WOW.” The New York Times published the full eulogy, in which the words appeared as they are written here — in capital letters.

We can only assume what these words mean or what caused them, but Simpson ended her eulogy with them, making no speculation herself.

The Washington Post notes the fascination many have of last words, including the famous last words of Sigmund Freud, which were, “Now it’s nothing but torture and makes no sense anymore.” The Post reports Beethoven as saying “I shall hear in heaven,” and likens Thomas Edison‘s final remarks to along the same lines as Jobs’s:

According to various sources, including the book “Edison: Inventing the Century” by Neil Baldwin, hours before his death, Edison emerged from a coma, opened his eyes, looked upwards and said “It is very beautiful over there.”

In the eulogy Simpson retells how her brother and she first met. Since Jobs was adopted, they didn’t meet until she was 25. But after this meeting, she appears to have had an integral part and understanding into her brother’s life.

In classic Steve Jobs fashion, who valued taking action over passiveness, Simpson said, ”Death didn’t happen to Steve, he achieved it.”

My friends… He probably just remembered that he hadn’t returned a Library Book from when he was a kid, and when he calculated the amount of money he owed on it, he said… “OH WOW. OH WOW. OH WOW.”…

Steve Jobs…now fully a believer in Jesus Christ. Were his last utterances those of a Christian man going to paradise or of an unbeliever finally grasping the folly of his entire existence on earth.

Hard to know for sure. But what I do know I share gladly…”Apart from belief in Jesus Christ as God and Savior and because of His(Jesus’) propitiating sacrifice upon the cross to take all sin upon His shoulders, all men would be consigned to everlasting seperation from Him, God. Believe in Jesus and live.”

I think that Jobs probably saw something that is not of this earth. Whether it is heaven or some other dimension, who knows. But I do believe that Jobs went somewhere that is paradise to him. He was a good person. He accepted people for what they were, he didn’t exclude, or judge others, he didn’t hurt others purposely. And from what I know he followed the Ten Commandments and the Law of Love. “Love others as I love you”. He used his talents that God gave him and spread those talents around the world to help people and bring happiness to many. That is what our job is on this earth. To use your God given talents, to love one another, even though they may follow a different path than you, not to judge each other if people don’t fit into your world. Most of all be good to one another and do not purposely hurt anyone for your own satisfaction.

Being a “good person”….even a loving non-judgmental person….is a great thing. I did not know Steve Jobs or much about him other than his wealth. But we all end up being in the same place in the end…dying…and going before our Creator. Not by my words….I am not judging…but…our Lord said it very plainly and clearly….”I am the way, the truth, and the life…No one comes to the Father but through me”. Unless, Steve or anyone else knows the Lord as their personal savior…no matter “how good” they are….they will have to face Jesus Christ who bought us with His blood…only Jesus will judge them and decide where they go….heaven or hell. He plainly tells us in His Word what to expect and what is to be done to receive salvation and eternal life….people are gambling all eternity if they believe there is any other way but Him.

What Jesus made clear is that “In as much as you have done it unto the least of these, my children, you have done it unto me.”

“Pure religion and undefiled before God is that a man visit the sick, the afflicted the fatherless,” etc.

Apparently Jesus’ judgement will fall in line with how much good they do to their fellow man. If you are one of many that believe that the millions of people that never even heard of Christ’s name, let alone had a chance to believe on him personally will be doomed because of an accident of birth location and or time, you are dead wr

There are no shortages of people that think that they alone know all about Jesus and why we are here and who gets into heaven and who does not. I believe that life is all about learning to love and the hard lessons and tradgedies that are a part of life make a person worthy to go upstairs when it is their time. No man can judge another man’s soul or his “deservedness” to join God. That is up to him alone. So quit trying. Your time will come.

@KMICHAEL: You quote James 1:27. This is supposed to be the behavior of a true follower of Christ. It does not apply to a Buddhist, Islamist, Mormon, etc. James is writing to true believers and followers of Christ. Mr. Jobs, as good as he is relatively speaking, could not follow the 10 Commandments and the Law of God. The Law was given to show man his need of a perfect righteousness that none can perform. By the Law the whole world is guilty and through it is the knowledge of sin (Rom 3:19, 20). All have fallen short of the perfection God requires, except one – the Lord Jesus Christ. If there is any other way to be made righteous by the Law, then Christ’s death has become worthless to that person (Gal 2:21).

Safeguard – Jobs was a buddhist, and so I doubt he followed the 10 Commandments. I wont doubt that he tried to live a genuinely clean and good life, but that argument doesn’t hold any water before God. Jesus said, “I AM the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE, NO MAN comes to the Father, EXCEPT through ME. He didn’t mince words, so if he (Jobs) was actually buddhist, then a Christian, we have our answer.

My Brother is in heaven and I feel good to know I will see him when it is my time. He even told me that he would be there waiting for me when it was my time. No one has to be cruel but people are going a little overboard about Steve Jobs, even Glenn Beck. Jobs was NOT Edison (despite Beck’s headline asserting it). If anything, Woz was – as he wrote the initial OS. Jobs didn’t INVENT anything “inside.” He put stuff in pretty & very efficient containers and/or drew up concepts to achieve that. Marketing genius & driver of people, yes. And the foolishness about “achieving” death is nonsense. He died like everybody else. Death is the great equalizer.
P.S. For those culturally concerned: Apple was a primary & early pusher of homosexual rights, for those who think this too has gone overboard.

They’re moving off in all imaginable directions,
each according to his own private belief,
and this is the secret that silent Lazarus would not reveal:

Some are being shot into a funnel of flashing colors

Others are standing naked before a forbidding judge who sits
with a golden ladder on one side, a coal chute on the other.

Some have already joined the celestial choir
and are singing as if they have been doing this forever,
while the less inventive find themselves stuck
in a big air conditioned room full of food and chorus girls.

Some are approaching the apartment of the female God,
a woman in her forties with short wiry hair
and glasses hanging from her neck by a string.
With one eye she regards the dead through a hole in her door.

There are those who are squeezing into the bodies
of animals–eagles and leopards–and one trying on
the skin of a monkey like a tight suit,
ready to begin another life in a more simple key,

while others float off into some benign vagueness,
little units of energy heading for the ultimate elsewhere.

Lazarus wasn’t brought back to life eternally by Jesus. Jesus restored Lazarus’ physical life. It would be my guess that Lazarus believed and had faith in Jesus enough to be born again and when he died the second time, he was given life eternally. It is in error to think that the miracles Jesus performed in the Bible bringing people back to life on earth is the same as Jesus gives for eternity. He performed these miracles and had them recorded so people would know the power of God and be saved so they could experience eternity with Jesus. I thought that needed to be cleared up!

Just before the sinner died on the cross with Jesus he repented to Jesus and Jesus declared “You will be with me in Paradise today.”

Adam‘s and Eve’s sin brought death to the world which means separation from God. But God always had a plan of redemption, his son, Jesus Christ. We are separated from God until we ask Jesus into our hearts.

Christians go to Heaven because they have faith in what Jesus did on the cross and because they repent and believe the Gospel and are spiritually born again, salvation and Heaven is not earned, it is by grace and mercy that anyone is saved Grace is getting what we don’t deserve and mercy is not getting what we do deserve. Rewards are totally different than salvation, rewards will be given to believers in Heaven for their work on earth. All believer rewards who receive reward crowns will cast them at Jesus feet anyway, while they given praise to the King! Anyone who believes they will make Heaven because anything they have done has believed in a false Gospel!

Jesus said on the cross “this day thou shalt be with me in paradise.”

The term used was very specifically paradise. Paradise, according to scholars of that time period understand that after death there is a temporary holding place of people’s spirits. For those that are generally good, it is known as paradise. For those that are generally bad, it is known as hell or some other less pleasant place.

Physical location is not really the issue. It is more a matter of state of mind.

Technically, Jesus stated “this day thou shalt be with me in paradise.”

Three days later, Jesus stated “touch me not, for I have not yet ascended to my Father in heaven.” The implication here is that Jesus went to paradise, most likely to organize a teaching process there, then, after three days, finally ascended to “heaven” to be with his Father.

The use of heaven is stated throughout the Bible. Perhaps you should read it sometime, before you make asinine statements.
Secondly, even though it did not make the Bible and many religions do not recognize the scripture as Canon; The Book of Enoch explicitly describes the 10 levels of heaven; God being on the 10th level. If I remember correctly, the angels are on the 7th level; thus 7th Heaven – ring a bell?

We don’t even know if it was “Oh Wow” in a good way or a bad way. It could have been “Oh Wow” as in “this is painful” or “oh wow…..it is difficult to leave those I love”. But he did look “over their shoulders past them” so he saw something. The way Mona actually phrased what happened was:

“Steve’s final words, hours earlier, were monosyllables, repeated three times.
Before embarking, he’d looked at his sister Patty, then for a long time at his children, then at his life’s partner, Laurene, and then over their shoulders past them.
      Steve’s final words were:
OH WOW. OH WOW. OH WOW.”

I was just turning 10, as my granfather had a massive heart attack and they told him if he left the hospital he would have another. “then I’ll die at home”. I sat in a room full of my aunts
as my grandmother fussed in the kitchen, he sat in his rocker with his eyes closed. I was praying he would live to celebrate my birthday in a few days. He suddenly looked in my direction and said,
“I’m going” bowed his head and was gone. I have never felt such peace as he left.
I will never forget. There is another place, my grandpa told me.

I can believe, “Oh, WOW!” I have heard of people dying who exclaimed, “OH, THE COLORS!” I knew of one great CHRISTIAN man (over 90 years of age), who on his deathbed was smiling and beckoning the angels to him.

There most definitely IS an after-life, a continued life, if you will. This one was just the playground for entering HIS PERFECT SCHOOL; or, if you prefer, this one was the school and we will be entering HIS PERFECT PLAYGROUND.

For those of you still unsure of it, now would be a very good time to do some investigating in the BIBLE. Study and learn for yourselves. It is real. It is coming.

Steve Jobs, if not a Christian when he died (and we won’t know `til we get HOME but I do hope he was), very well might have been saying, “Oh, WOW!” about all he will miss for eternity. If he was a Christian, it will be fun to hang out with him up there.

My brother, who had cystic fibrosis, was resuscitated after being dead for 20 min…(1967)…it was near my birthday and he asked for some cake and that I bring it and to be alone. He died 2 days later.

His only words to me was, “You don’t need to worry, God said you will be OK, he has a plan for you, so don’t be sad”…now tell me how could a 12 year old could come up with such knowledge without the help of God!

He was 12 years old. Not some so called brainwashed bible-thumper…Atheists are closed minded…narrow minded.

Amazing. Thank you. In one of the very few times God has ever spoken directly to me, he said “Everything is going to be OK”. He told me this during one of my darkest hours. It doesn’t feel like everything has been OK, but I am still here and kicking, trying my best, and I feel like it’s not OK after what is now 7 years of tribulation, but I am among the top 0.1% financially on the planet after having come back from zero, and I now look for people to help instead of helping myself. When my friends hit the bottom and feel desperate, I am compelled to let them know this simple short message from him. I know he meant the message to all of us. Everything will be alright.

I think that our suffering is only self-perceived, and our misery, completely unnecessary. When we get to heaven, I imagine we will tell each other stories about how stupid we were in our little stint here, like the way we might relay our performance on a math test, or a driver’s test. And we will all laugh about how we died, especially the ones of us who did it to ourselves, skydiving, and what-not. “Man, what was I thinking!” LOL!

I think Jesus suffered during the passion so that our suffering would have a redeeming value.

Here’s another example of The Blaze AKA Pravda West, trying to imply that there is such a thing as an afterlife. No news on the Blaze, just propaganda, Soviet style.

      Hey JOEL 1234
Whether you chose to believe there isn’t an after life after physical death is your choice, God given choice, however if you would stop and consider what force would cause you to be so irritated when someone speaks of eternity? I know that answer, do you, the force that makes you angry is the opposite force of that gives life and life more abundantly eternally. Jesus said no man can serve two masters, it’s very easy to see who is against Him.. All of us are evangelist, either for Jesus or for the devil. It’s easy to see which one you have chosen so far! Maybe you should have some business cards printed up!

Actually, it was Steve Job’s sister that seemed to be implying that there was some form of afterlife. You atheists need to learn to read the details and gather facts better than you do. Otherwise you come across as generally stupid.
