Whatever You Do, Do Not Watch This Video of a Stomach-Turning Track Injury

So if you’ve clicked into the story, you have disregarded the warning in the headline. And you are willing to live through watching the video of Georgi Kirilov Georgiev from Bulgaria at the European Championships as he injures his leg. I’ll leave it at that. Watch below (Georgiev is on the far side in the red):
I’ll give you a moment to collect yourself.
However, if you didn’t watch the video, here are some of the pictures:
Reports say that he snapped his leg and dislocated his knee. If you’ve ever torn a ligament in your knee (like I have), you have an idea of how that feels. If you haven’t, now you at least have a visual picture.

Posted on June 29, 2012 at 11:09amDear TheBlaze Editors, if you really want to be thought of as a serious media for news, you must stop, fire all present writers, and start again. This time might I suggest that you look further than Huffington Post to steal your staff from. The headlines presented to us are always devisive elements to divide the right, or they are tabloid level stories, with bogus headlines.

You have the choice to click on stories that interest you or not.
The idea you took the time to write a response in this very comment section means you’re too tied up about these stories. News outlets always have stories like this. And The Blaze still covers numerous other things.
Report Post »So, go to those stories.

Posted on June 29, 2012 at 1:08pmThe Blaze as “serious media?” Let me put it this way. Blaze editors run stories as well as, well, Georgi. Not only are the articles usually a few days old, but they’re copied pretty much word for word from other sources. I come here when I need a good laugh or another reason to thank my lucky stars that I was educated so I don’t have to spend my life in the dark corners of the world talking to people like those who comment here.

Posted on June 29, 2012 at 2:55pmI agree with you, MacPappy. I think The Blaze needs to make a vital decision: does it seek to be a source of RELEVANT information, or does it seek to be a tabloid? When I began reading The Blaze, it was definitely the first; it is slowly transitioning into a mixture, which I don’t like. If I wanted to read stories of dislocated knees, blog posts about “CLEAVAGE” and the like, I’d be on a different news site.
Come on, Blaze! Make up your mind! These stories only make you look like a less than reputable news source. Just sayin’.

Posted on June 29, 2012 at 3:00pm@ HappyKillmore: the problem is that the level of pain is SUBJECTIVE, not OBJECTIVE. So while a woman in labor may rate it as a 10, another woman experiencing the same labor (which isn’t possible, but bear with me) may rate it a 7. Complicating the matter is that most people have not experienced all four things, so they can rate which was more painful. And even if they could, point number one is still a relevant factor.

Posted on June 29, 2012 at 4:21pmOkay, I come to this site pretty often- and it is hard for me to gauge whether or not they are going for an authentic news site. There is some good, informative material- and then there is stuff that is a waste. All the waste articles unfortunately tend to be written by the same authors.
I do like the Blaze, but I don’t know if they can actually call this a news site. I have seen stories with bogus elements (usually the entertainment stories), that are later retracted, and A LOT of typos. And pop-ups.
If these thins were addressed, I think this would be a much more credible news source.

Posted on June 29, 2012 at 6:54pmFYI…this guy looks like his leg broke and then he fell…even though that sounds like the “obvious”…wouldn’t be surprised to find out that he had a unicameral bone cyst…young men often get them and the cyst within the bone actually weakens the bone (it develops in the long bones and is painless…until it breaks, of course) and when the leg is put under stress, a fracture can result…really scary thing is that these cysts often develop right along the :“growth plate” and when fracture occurs may cause a stunting of the bone growth and result in a permanently “shortened limb” !

Posted on June 30, 2012 at 10:53amThat was a fatuous remark, macpappy.
I visit the Huffpo site regularly and their comments section is a wasteland.
On this site, half of the benefit is reading the comments by thoughtful (and sometimes provocative) readers, whom, I will be the first to admit, have educated me considerably over the past couple of years.
While I agree that some stories are less than imperitive, I think that the Blaze achieves a nice mix. And don’t think that I am a blind supporter, I went nuts once over their censorship and even tried to complain to GB personally (couldn’t reach him). That side of things has improved markedly.
Do what we all do, if the headline doesn’t interest to you, skip past it. Time is valuable.

Posted on June 29, 2012 at 1:33pmActually, there are things more painful than childbirth. I’m a physician so I do know this for a fact. Childbirth is not even in the top three: kidney stone, acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), and acute pancreatitis. I‘m not saying childbirth isn’t painful, but it is not the most painful thing a human being can endure.
Report Post »Ramv36
Posted on June 29, 2012 at 1:45pmNot sure about childbirth, but my father had both legs forcibly crushed and amputated in a car accident, and he said that, the subsequent 20 or so surgeries, and 13 months of hospital stay physical therapy were the worst pain he’s ever had. Ask him ho long it lasted, and he says he’ll let you know when, if ever, the pain stops. It’s been 41 years so far….

Posted on June 29, 2012 at 2:00pm@Adeleeee Unfortunately, there is worse pain than having a baby! I have had two kids (1st one was a very complicated delivery) and I believe childbirth was a breeze compared to my torn rotator cuff! Ugh! That was insane, intense pain that lasted for months! Nearly unbearable. I have also torn ligaments in both ankles and both knees…that’s not much fun either, but a cake walk compared to how this guy must feel!

Posted on June 29, 2012 at 2:45pmHappyKillmore – You must be a person of the male persuasion. As someone who has given birth, and has had her share of other painful afflictions, I can tell you that nothing compares to the agony of childbirth. Nothing I can think of even comes close. You mentioned kidney stone.. nope. heart attack, nope. With all due respect, (and I do mean that) I‘m sorry but I believe you’re wrong here, physican or not. I‘d rather have both my legs sawed off with a butterknife before I’d ever endure “natural childbirth” again. The pain of it is otherworldly and unless you’ve gone through it, you have no idea how bad it really is. It’s just that we females make it look easy!! ;)
Report Post »Suzanne D
Posted on June 29, 2012 at 3:04pm@ FullThrottle: Well put. In my experience, many men either directly or indirectly imply that women are over reacting to the pain of childbirth.

Posted on June 29, 2012 at 3:40pmSuzanne D — Thank you. You’re right, men have no idea of the magnitude of pain that is child birth. Frankly, neither did I until I actually went through it. During my contractions I remember thinking, “I can’t believe that this much pain exists.” I wish I could have passed out from the pain but unfortunately it wouldn’t be possible to remain unconscious through that agony. My sister-in-law described it as “like having your insides scraped out with a wire brush for 16 hours.” She was right. If I ever do it again, “natural childbirth” and “Lamaze” can kiss my you know what. Epidural is where it’s at! hehe

Posted on June 29, 2012 at 4:57pmWomen get all three of the conditions I listed. The women I have admitted with those conditions had all delivered children. All told me their pain was worse than childbirth. Of course I have never delivered a child in this sense and no I never will. Have YOU ever passed a large kidney stone, had a heart attack, or suffered acute pancreatitis? If not, then you are the one with no frame of reference. Pain is not an all or nothing sport. My saying that pain levels are higher for these conditions should not be interpreted as my stating you’re exaggerating about the pain of childbirth. It also doesn’t mean that because those hurt more, childbirth doesn’t hurt at all. Don’t put extra words into my posts.
Report Post »Happy Killmore
Posted on June 29, 2012 at 5:07pm@ Suzanne D
Yes, pain is subjective. There are, however, clinically defined guidelines for defining how much pain is involved. This was actually studied and the results of the study were part of my medical training curriculum. Those were the top three listed. I have treated all three conditions. In my own, anecdotal experience, I find it to be accurate. Of course, the pain level with each has contributing factors: the size of the kidney stone, the size of the baby’s head. Some diabetics even experience “silent” MI. My only point was to rebut what someone posted. I continue to maintain that childbirth is not the most pain a human being can endure. It has NOTHING to do with my gender. However, I believe your reply does. Your reply is nothing more than ad hominem response to my argument.

Posted on June 29, 2012 at 6:21pm@Happy Killmore
I can come to your aid on this. I’ve had 4 babies. I can attest that childbirth is pretty unimaginable pain. But there are a couple of striking things about it that make it really unique. First is the fact that for most of the time the pain is coming & going, giving small breaks to regather yourself. During the delivery itself the pain is constant with spiking jolts of pain you can actually picture killing you! However, it‘s the kind of pain that ends so abruptly it’s hard to even remember exactly what it felt like… you only remember that it was crazy pain.
In contrast, I‘ve had injuries that I’ll never forget the exact feeling & I even relive that pain if I see someone else experience the same type of injury. I‘ve been present for 4 baby deliveries and watching them doesn’t invoke that kind of physical memory at all. I had a kidney stone and the thing I hated the most about it was how constant the sharp pain was…lasting days. It was a pretty small stone. If it had been any larger I‘m sure it would’ve been the worst pain I’ve ever had.
So, basically, I think there are moments in childbirth where the pain defies comprehension, but I think there are other things where the duration and intensity of the pain surpasses childbirth. And lastly, at least when you get done with childbirth you have a baby to enjoy!
