What‘s Really Behind Maddow’s ‘Green Weenie’ Obsession?

The “green weenie” comment made on Sunday morning‘s CNN appearance by former Senator Alan Simpson has burrowed deep into Rachel Maddow’s brain and taken hold.

Last night‘s edition of TRMS featured over six minutes of the news channel’s prime time programming dedicated to the military colloquialism used by the former senator and key member of the President’s bi-partisan National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility.  Why?  Why would a program focus on the comments of a retired Senator who is serving as an advisor to the President?  Ms. Maddow’s intro to the segment give obvious clues to her real intent;

Let us examine that introduction a bit closer;

“Former Senator Alan Simpson, one of the bi-partisan co-chairs of the president’s National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility, a.k.a. the cat food commission, a.k.a. the thing a lot of of people are worried will be the vehicle for cutting back social security, which is among the most beloved of American Institutions for a reason.  Former Senator Alan Simpson, because of his key role on the “oh God, please don’t cut social security” commission, pretty much everything he says in public now is closely scrutinized because people want to figure out what he is going to do to this revered institution, that thing most Americans feel very strongly about protecting.”

After dismissing the ad hominem swats taken at Alan Simpson by calling this commission the “cat food commission,”  Ms. Maddow should know that the NCFR cannot DO anything to Social Security.  The benefits received, taxes levied to generate the funds and the date at which one becomes eligible to receive those benefits will not be set by this commission.  They are set by elected officials in Congress (the House & Senate), a place where Mr. Simpson used to work.

This was the start of a six minute effort to discredit the work being done by Alan Simpson and the commission he co-chairs.  Ms. Maddow is couching her message in an attempt at comedy, but at the core of this is an attack on a retired public servant who has honored his country by accepting an invitation from the President to return to service and do the very difficult work that so many in our Congress refuse to do or are too frightened to do; propose reductions in government spending.

Alan Simpson and the other co-chair, Erskine Bowles are looking at the dire financial realities of our country and will deliver an unvarnished plan of what can be done to save us from the looming fiscal meltdown obvious to even the most uneducated among us. The President saw fit to appoint them to these positions, perhaps their review and answers will offer some solutions previously not discussed.

The entire segment is here for your review.

    Americans do not/did not love forced social security. However, the rip off created ponzi scheme by the ultra liberal progressive element, have disabled and elderly people just getting by on it. It is their money they paid into the system by being hard working people of America. It does not fall into the freebie catagories such as Acorn, the Funding of the Artsy Fartsy crowd, abortions paid for knowingly and unknowingly by the tax payers, PBS, endowment of the Arts, ACLU, political faux social agencies funded thru back door to circumvent the American tax payer.

    This is just smoke. Getting rid of any new entries into the social security program for people under a certain age and abolishing the politicians slush fund is a good thing. Taking Care of and honoring our elderly is a sacred trust and a vow that should not be broken because politicians have stole from the American people’s coffers for far too long. Maybe the politicians should pony up and pay back the moneys they have stole. Just a thought.

      I agree to a point. But most people do not save in their lifetimne and the only thing that keeps them off the street is that puny little check. It’s too bad it is used for a slush fund…or that we pay them so little interest for the luxury of using their money for 5 decades. What gets me is that there are people getting it who obviously didn’t have to pay into it as much as others. It’s too bad wallstreet had been so corrupt and the S.S. never got privatized in a safe manner. It definately looks like a ponsi scheme at this point….but if you think family will take care of their elderly…guess again.

    I am conservative….and believe in the Bush tax cuts…because it really helped the middle class out.
    HOWEVER, I am sick of the tax loopholes for the rich on both the Left and the RIght. When it comes to their tax loopholes they are conveniently all on the same side. When John Kerry talked about Bush’s tax cuts for the riches 1%, no one knew that Bush paid 35% taxes that year and Kerry only paid 10%. I believe I pay about 27%. Warren Buffet claims his secretary pays a higher % that he does. GW on an interview said he wants his tax cuts to stay because the middle class benefits from it but also said the rich have their tax attorneys hired to keep their tax contributions LOW.

    Alan Simpson said that the rich would pay a flat tax of about 20-30% with no tax cuts allowed, we in turn would not get our deductibles either, like our house tax…BUT our entire tax % would be lowered, based on our income to about 10-17%. This would get us out of debt in 13 years….one billion yearly. Instead we are talking about cutting old people’s care and S.S. and defense…..What the hell? THere are too many rich people in congress protecting their asses. I don’t want the rich to have to pay a ridulous amount of taxes because they provide the jobs…..but just PAY their fair share. The tax atty. lobbyist are all having mini-strokes at this idea.

    To: Mike Opelka,
    The Bi-Partisan National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility co-chaired by Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles is a ridiculous pile of dung. And, this is from a conservative. It has nothing to do with fiscal responsibility and everything to do with political posturing. It was a waste of time.

    She / He has the same problem that all of the ******* / progressives are dealing with. They are an extreme minority who has awakened a populace 100 times their size and they now realize their agenda is slipping away from them. They are coming out of the “closet” now because it’s their final push for power. It’s now or never for them and they well know it! Watch either this show or Chris and you get the same mentality (or lack thereof). They have run out of other people’s money and it pi$$es them off we will not give any more.
    The only way they could have won was to keep it a secret for another 100 years and program 5 more generations of kids. They need much more than 10% of the population to sway the populace.They underestimated how many people are still entrenched in the old way of life, you know, earning what you need.

She has been focusing on bashing Beck and Hannity this week over the coverage they have given to the Muslim Brotherhood. Maddow calls the coverage an abuse of media responsibility. I call MSNBC’s lack of coverage of this group an abuse of the media responsibility.

      @CnsrvtvJ

      Agreed. The worst of the liberals and progressives of the media is hard to determine anymore; they all are coming out of the night, and revealing their true selves for all to see. The sad part is that we have gotten so used to the faces of darkiness, that the light is no longer recognized easily as for what it is – plain, simple truth and reality.
