‘Where is the Love?’ Black Eyed Peas Use Super-Bowl Halftime to Deliver Political Plea to Obama

People tuning in to the Super Bowl Sunday evening to get a break from politics must have been disappointed after the pre-game show was interrupted by an interview with the president and half-time featured an economic and education policy plea from the Black Eyed Peas for Obama:

“Obama, let’s get these kids educated / Create jobs so the country stays stimulated”

Ironically enough, just before asking President Obama to improve the country’s education system, their performance included a short rendition of “Let’s Get It Started” (originally titled “Let’s Get Retarded”) in which they called on the audience to “get stupid.”

    WOW!!! Some GREAT comments here! It’s heartlilfting to see there are still sane resonable and DECENT people that know what entertainment and truth is! I heard their words too but was not surprised-it’s one of the reasons why I only allowed christian contemporary, “big band” and classics in my home when my kids were growing! Music is meant to uplift NOT degrade. A person is what he puts into his mind, and eyes AND ears! Anyway, it got my husband to get up and leave the room and empty the dishwasher!! HAHA GO PACKERS!!!!!

    Half time … suc ked plain and simple! Get rid of all the glowing dancers and put a stage on the fifty and let 3-4 singers/groups go out and sing one of their songs. These people over think this halftime crap and I only use it as a break to go to the bathroom!

    The suits who book these so called “artists” need to have a clause in the contract You get political in your performance and you forfeit your salary. If the Black Eyed Peas are so concerned with the love let them take some of their wealth and employ a few people to help them with decent song writting.It will do a world of good for them as well as the ones they employ.These artsie fartsie characters are all the same. Clueless.

    I do not dislike the Black Eyed Peas. I‘ll listen to them on the radio but don’t go out of their way to buy their music or anything. They are a hip-hop/dance group that aren’t usually too political or offensive (relatively speaking). However, even I thought the show was way over the top! They could have dialed it down 12 notches, incorporated fewer guests and songs and it would have been better though I suppose still disliked by those of you that don’t like their music at all.

      It was Hell’s version of the Donny and Marie show. After a flashy entrance, it was costumed rehash featuring other people on the same record label. I thought the enthusiasm was on par with the old geezers from last year.

    I was very fortunate to watch the Superbowl at my VFW Post (Post 2819 in Philly). With all of the retired Philly cops making so much noise, I didn‘t hear one word of Christine’s version of the National Anthem or any of the halftime “entertainment”.

    Glad I used “toilet bowl” time yesterday to quilt. At least something beautiful and creative happened on my watch ~~~ direct results of being well-educated even in public schools in AMERICA fifty years ago and being reared in a country that knew, respected and loved GOD.

      I used it to read. Listened to the first maybe sixty seconds, but the sound was so uneven it was hard to listen to. The commercials were for the most part lame. Even the Etrade baby fell flat. The Darth Vader kid was cute. Reminded me of my Star Wars crazy 5year old son!

    Love the Black Eyed Peas and all in all it was a great show. Didn’t need the Obama plug and I too was disappointed. However, I would love to see our kids educated and not indoctrinated, but that will not happen under Obama or as long as we have the Teacher’s Union.

    Actually – I enjoyed the half time show and loved the political injection. Bottom line: the country is FRUSTRATED – entertainers are citizens too – God Bless them for taking a stand. Seemed to get a warm welcome from the crowd for that sentiment. Certainly did from me. Biggest smile of the game. :)

    Once we as Americans begin to actually engage each other in the conversations required, I have faith we will do and choose what’s required to restore this great Nation. Once again, America will Bless God – with Divine Providence leading our way!

    Thank god. (if that is still allowed in this nation) I thought I was going nuts. No one else in the room heard it and told me my political radar is over active. Ha. Well, I won’t give them a pass, same way I get angry when my favorite show interjects their beliefs in it. Sometimes you just want to watch something for entertainment to get away from the 24/7 politics. Sometimes you can’t run far enough. Go Packers !

    When are performers going to realize that people either like them or dislike them because of their art and NOT their political messages. They ruined the half time show by talking about Obama. Our whole country is about to overdose from too much Obama. He ruined the pregame show also, for the same reason. We don’t tune into the superbowl festivities to watch Obama. Why is everything always about Obama. He should have the good manners to shut up and disappear for a day.

      Come on people, some of you guys are out of the loop with the music. The black eyed pea’s put on a great show. I wasn’t happy about the pro obama reference but they did a great job. Maybe there music isn’t everyones cup of tea but you have to admit Fergie can sing her butt off.

      They were absolutely terrible, notice they totally depended on visual effects to hide their lack of talent.

The things they call entertainment at the Super Bowls have become a joke. Hey Black Eyed Peas…if you want to help improve the educational system, start by writing good, clean coherant lyrics to your songs so when the children recite them they will stop sounding gangsta. The people in the entertainment industry that are elevated for their so called “talent” are all vacant of one key ingredient…Can you say talent boys and girls?

      The “Speech Giver” finally giving an interview to Fox News when he knows the Super Bowl draws one of the biggest audiences shows me that EVERYTHING is about HIM !!! I was furious because as this article states the game for many of us is to FORGET our daily problems for awhile and be entertained. Then the Anthem was botched and the Blacked Eyed Craps put their Spin in there!!! Hum wonder if the “Speech Givers” RADICAL staff had anything to do with that !!!!! You know subliminal Ads !!!

      “Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder”. That could be true, sometimes. So I guess a few people that watched the halftime Superbowl show were entertained. Personally, I don’t believe we older folks are entertained or even amused by hip-hop music and street gang lingo and signs. Whoever plans these halftime events apparently aren’t concerned about them being liked or even entertaining. May I suggest also that next year have an audition for the one that’s chosen to sing the National Anthem. It has gone down in history that Rossane Barr’s rendition was the worse ever, but at least she knew the right words. Christina didn’t !

      A Christian commercial was turned down because it included a Bible verse, John 3:16. Okay, if religion is banned from the commercials, I believe politics should also be banned, before, during and after the game. I doubt that a single person who watched the game live are on television did so with the hope that Barack Obama would make an appearence to give an update on his political views. I’m sick of seeing and hearing silver tongued Barry Seotoro and most of the other Americans are also.

      I thought Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers was the best halftime show ever, and the Rolling Stones were the worst. But the Black Eyed Pissants were a close second to the Stones. They really sucked.

      Man you are so right! I had forgotten all about those kids. I did have a brief flash back last night when the little girl was given the aware for physical exercise for a few minutes each day…or something like that. They also had to make the point that her ambition was to be the first female punter in the NFL. The punt, pass and kick finals were always a tremendous thing for those kids. As American as apple pie. Those were the days….

      Worst halftime show ever. The only thing that could have saved them was a Fergie wardrobe malfunction. I can’t imagine how bad it could have been if Will.I.Am’s auto-tune would have malfunctioned.       @DUSTY, no one forced your kids to watch the Superbowl. You’re kids do not have their own bank account, I assume, nor do they buy beer (hopefully) but a majority of football fans do have money to spend and love beer. They also like sexy women and funny commercials. The advertisement during the superbowl was not meant for your kids, it was meant for grown adults. If you disagree with their advertising, you are free to change the channel or turn of the TV. Goodnight America.

      The old song, “Just a bowl of Butter Beans, pass the cornbread if you please, etc” keeps running through my head hearing the horrible 1/2 time show by the blackeyed peas. I watched because I didn’t know who they were, (and love blackeyed peas fresh from garden with cornbread and onion) but what a disappointment that show was so unprofessional with the exception of the people on the field with all the lights flashing. These people were the real show, not those lack-luster ones on the state. They must have been drugged out.

      Get a grip people, It was a good show, not my favorite music, but unlike some of you I like a wide range of music. Despite the secret code words sung, it was a good positive performance. The Stones did a good show as well before. Just saw Tool recently and was blown away, but must of you probably wouldn’t have liked that either. I will say one thing though, Obama sucks.

      Precisely why I do not watch the half-time show at Super Bowl, nor the commercials. Game was very good, not because of the winner, but because I was on the edge of my seat throughout. God job by both teams.
