Which Cable News Net Dares To Compare Wisconsin To Cairo?

Less than one day after hosts Ed Schultz and Cenk Uygur went apoplectic (see clips attached below) because Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan compared the action on the streets to what happened in Cairo, their own network is hosting interviews with a Democrat Congressman making the same comparison and in greater detail.

Just before noon (EST) today, MSNBC host Chris Jansing spent considerable time with Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) talking about the amazing similarities between the protests on the streets of Madison, Wisconsin and the protests that recently toppled the government of Egypt.   Just 1:32 into this segment, Congressman Lewis clearly states:

“There is an unbelievable parallel and a real connection that I can readily identify with the people in the streets of Cairo and Madison, Wisconsin.”

Additionally, Allan Lichtman (the other guest in the lower right hand box) joined in the discussion, tying Wisconsin to Egypt by saying both were about the unfair distribution of wealth.

There is is, MSNBC connecting the dots between Wisconsin and Egypt.  So why why why do some of the channel’s other hosts think that comparison is a horrific insult to the people on the streets of Madison?  Let’s review.  First Cenk piece weighs in:

It should be clarified that MSNBC did take some creative license when they pulled such a small portion of Congressman Ryan’s appearance on Morning Joe, here is a more objective clip;

Ed Schultz was on the scene in Madison and also could not resist the opportunity to take a shot at Congressman Ryan, saying;

“For Paul Ryan to go on national television and make that comment and comparison between Cairo and Madison is an insult to these people and an insult to democracy.”

The video of this rant is offered as irrefutable proof.

One wonders if Paul Ryan will be receiving at least two apologies today (Schultz and Uygur are you paying attention?) or if Congressman Lewis will be raked over the coals on tonight’s program?

    That‘s insulting to say Egypt’s protests equate to union workers crying about not being able to gouge Wisconsin anymore.

    In the city’s melted furnace, unexpectedly we watched
    With faces hidden as the walls were tightening
    As the echo of the wedding bells before the blowing rain
    Dissolved into the bells of the lightning
    Tolling for the rebel, tolling for the rake
    Tolling for the luckless, the abandoned and forsaked
    Tolling for the outcast, burning constantly at stake
    As we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing.

      In this particular instance it the taxpayers of WI that are luckless and forsaked. Whi is looking out for the interests if the beleagured private sector taxpayers in this dispute ? Lots of folks have had to endure layoffs, home forclosures, go without food in order to feed the ever increasing tax load to supprt public pensions that are by all accounts fat, bloated and well above the avergae Joe and what he can get for the same skilled work. A small contribution towards the cost of the cadillac health plans these Union members enjoy is a far cry from having to pay 100% of the premium in the private sector…if you get covverage at all….No one expects Union members to pay 100% of the privatre sector workers health plan…why should the taxpayer have to pay 100% of the Unions plan ? Asking for a 15% contribution in light of the current fiscal woes facing many states is not worth burning down the house for…maybe the Union would rather have 25% of the workforce let go instead ? The gravy train has run out of track…it had to end sometime. The Union should be ashamed of the greed they bitterly accuse private companies of. Since when has progit ever been a sin ? Are you people freaking crazy ? How do you think America could function if it‘s private sector was taxed within an inch of it’s existence ? That’s right it wouldn;t function very well at all.

    Why are they upset about the comparison of Wisconsin/Ohio to Egypt when the message I get from the President and the DNC is that they WANT an Egypt situation here. Obama’s Organizing for America group and the DNC are helping to bus protesters into the Wis. capital and perhaps to otherwise whoop up the crowd. Of course, if the Egyptians are fighting for American Revolution-style freedom, which I doubt, then, there can be no comparison with these Union people who are enjoying luxurious benefits at the expense of their less-fortunate private sector, taxpaying, brethren in Wisconsin/Ohio and the expense of their state economy. Further, collective bargaining is not a right nor should it be. It‘s time we broke the Unions’ power.

    Are you kidding? There is no parallel between people being oppressed and living on virtually nothing and the Wisconsin unions & teachers who make upwards of $50K a year and don’t want to tighten up just a little to help their state out of the mire and dept. It is high time we start tightening our belts and making some hard choices… which obviously some are unwilling to do. Of course, while fat cat union bosses get richer and have tons of money to donate to political campaigns–which is why BO is onboard with them in Wisconsin–it is difficult to understand how we got here. Not every situation was caused by George Bush–sorry, you can’t blame him for the last two years. If ObamaCare doesn’t break your state–the new educational agenda will fix everything.

      Teachers wouldn‘t have to tighten their belts all that much if they weren’t paying their union fees. They should think about the effects of having that money in their pocket instead of sending it to political organization that is ruining America.

Being asked to pay for part of your government benefits does not compare to poverty and food shortages. Boo hoo hoo, they are making me talk responsibility for myself.

      Yes, I have a job and pay lots of taxes, the democrats/ progressives take said taxes and re-distribute it to those that pay no taxes, don’t work, demand more and more, and have done this for generations. I still have a hard time understanding how you can not pay any taxes, file a return with the IRS, and get MONEY from the government in the form of a TAX RETURN. How is this possible? Yes, this is unfair re-distribution of the wealth, from my calloused hands to others.
