Which Former Governor and ‘12 Candidate Was the Most Successful Job Creator?

National Review Online has released an analysis based on seasonally adjusted employment data from the Bureau of Labor which shows former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson to have been the most successful job creator of the former Governors now in the 2012 GOP field. Gov. Johnson had an 11.6 percent job-growth rate from taking office in 1995 to the end of his term-limited tenure in 2003.
While Gov. Johnson was the only Governor now primary candidate to have served the majority of his tenure in the 1990s economy, Gov. Johnson’s growth rate trumps the next closest candidate, former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, by 5.7 percent. Mitt Romney was only able to raise the job-growth rate 1.6% as Governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007, and Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty a meager 0.5 percent from 2003 to 2011.
Onlookers cheering”Run Rick, Run” during Rick Perry’s speech at the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans Saturday must have gotten the report early. As Governor of Texas from January 2001 to April 2011, the possible 2012 candidate lead the Lone Star state to an overall job-growth rate of 12.5 percent. Gov. Perry has recently planned an August trip to South Carolina, one of the three early primary states.

Posted on June 22, 2011 at 8:44amIn reading all your comments so far, you all come off as truly ignorant masses. All I see are uninformed and stupid comments about his last name and when he served. I have lived in New Mexico for nearly thirty years, and he was the best governor we had during that time. He made welfare reform one of his top agendas. He vetoed more spending bills than all other governors combined during that time. And yes, he did create the environment that led to the largest job growth in the nation during his administration. His proposal to legalize marijuana is based on honest assessment of the war on drugs: take out the illegality, you take out the money, you take out the violence. Then you tax it and stop wasting so much unnecessary money chasing around little pot-heads. It would in essence win the war on drugs and help to bring a lot of money into the government that is now wasted and spent fighting a war that does not need to be fought. Stoop to conquer, and win the fight.
CNN was wrong to omit him from the debate. He’s very intelligent, more articulate than you give him credit for, and worth listening to. He deserves a chance. And he’d be twice the President that Romney would be. Grow up, people!

If more of these so called conservatives would actually read the Constitution for themselves, and not listen to what other so called conservatives or so called constitutional scholars tell them that that it says, then they could weigh the candidates words and or record against the Constitution and make an informed intelligent choice.

In my opinion, based on his flip flopping, he would be the end of middle of the road Americans trusting the Republican party. We can not stand for another fake conservative. There has been to much damage done to our liberties and our country to nominate someone who is not firmly grounded and his/her principles!
Johnson may be “too libertarian” but, at least one knows what his intentions would be.

He is by anyone‘s determination the best qualified to turn this country’s economy around and get Americans (not illegals) back to work. He was serving as Gov. of Mass. which is probably the most liberal state in the union, so most of the legislation he signed had a liberal bias, but make no mistake he’s a conservative.

As governor he instituted Romney Care which MANDATES the Sovereign Citizens of Massachusetts to purchase health care. He recently made mention of the fact that he believes man is a contributor to global warming. And finally, he was elected governor of Mass. prior to the election of Scott Brown as senator, which was a protest vote by the people of Mass. to Obama’s over reaching agenda. Mass. may be the most liberal state in the nation… that doesn’t exactly scream conservative candidate. Go on Youtube and check out the gubernatorial debates Romney was in… He was constantly postulating himself has a moderate. Now,
I’m not saying there is not a place for moderates, there is but, say what you mean and mean what you say!

Report Post »that is the problem with all of the politicians, they try to be one thing for election reasons, then when they get elected they, show their true colors. we don’t need some one who is a middle of the road president, we need some one who can be what the American people want, some one who will do what they are elected to do, run this country as to the constitution. not some liberal ideology i know that compromise is the way to get things done, but not when our country is on the brink of total destruction, and well on it’s way to some thing that represents communism. we can not take any more left wing liberal flip flopping ideology.

Didn’t you read the article? Romney with 1.6% job growth record and he’s the most qualified?
We need a real constitutional conservative with the founders libertarian perspective BADly. Since you are making these comments about Romney you should do some research and learn more of what a limited role the federal government is supposed to play in our lives. Nah! You don’t need to do any research…just open your eyes and judge for yourself. Its apparent.

What part of “the Most Successful Job Creator” are you uncomfortable with?
The logical conclusion of this article is that the MORE Libertarian our government is, the more wealth we will all have – when we can all be fully and gainfully employed without having to pay for so much over-regulation and waste.
In a way I am grateful that Gary Johnson was shut out of the CNN debate as it turned out that brought him far more public awareness than participating would have brought.
As for Johnson’s speech – Barack Obama is a pretty smooth talker – how’s that working out for us? Let’s choose our priorities well (less government) and not be so Hollywoodized that we‘d ignore a talented governor like Johnson simply because he failed to be as ’entertaining’ a speech-giver as a Clinton or Obama.
