Former President George H.W. Bush considered Hollywood heavyweight Clint Eastwood as a potential running mate, according to new interviews released Friday.
The University of Virginia and Bush Presidential Library Foundation released more than 350 hours of audio interviews from 50 administration officials Friday, ABC News reported. Among the revelations was that the “Dirty Harry” legend was briefly considered for the No. 2 spot.
“When we were way behind. Honestly, [Eastwood] was suggested in not an altogether unserious – Well, he was a mayor. He was a Republican mayor,” former Bush campaign chairman and Secretary of State James Baker said
Eastwood served one term as mayor of the conservative ocean side community Carmel, Calif. in the mid-1980s.
“Anyway, it was shot down pretty quick,” Baker said. “But we were looking at an 18-point deficit.”
Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.), Sen. Alan Simpson (R-Wyo.) and Rep. Jack Kemp (R-N.Y.) were also reportedly under consideration. Bush ultimately selected Indiana Sen. Dan Quayle.
Baker said his first reaction to Quayle was that he was “maybe not the most qualified, but he brings other attributes that are extraordinarily important.”
Eastwood has voiced his distaste for President Barack Obama, saying last year he’s “not a fan” and “I just don‘t think he’s governing.”

Posted on October 15, 2011 at 9:18pmClint Eastwood is a bad choice for ‘conservatives’ but a typical choice for anyone named Bush. He lived in sin for years with another woman after leaving his wife and his his daughter is running around nude on film everywhere. Why not have Victoria Jackson or Mel Gibson as a Republican v.p.?

Clint and Sandra stayed there for one night. She said that they were in the lounge when she was working, and that Clint slapped her on the butt and sat her on his lap. That was the high thrill point of her life! Lol

Posted on October 15, 2011 at 12:37pmJust to let you know that George Bush is no longer President. What difference does it make to consider who his VP might have been? Are you that hard-up for current news? Please let him enjoy the years he has left. He deserves it! Stop using him as an excuse for every problem our country now faces! Look at what’s his name in the White House. Talk about a loser! I don’t think he could run/manage a store that only sold one thing.

Posted on October 15, 2011 at 1:08pmPsssst…. they were talking about George “Herbert Walker” Bush – who… by only having one term. COULD (theoretically) still run for President. Not that he’s going to. But you sound like they are referring to George W. Bush… (they certainly aren’t blaming his DAD for all the problems.)
… just a point of clarification. :)

Posted on October 15, 2011 at 10:41amCarmel, CA…
speaking of CA…
Their governor has added to his list of new left-extreme wacko laws of late:
Now illegal to carry UNLOADED GUNS.
Now illegal to use a tanning bed between 14-17 yrs of age.
Now illegal to buy/sell shark fin (never mind possible cancer treatments)
And the latest,
Self-checkout of alcohol is now prohibited, even though every register CANNOT ring it up unless an attendant comes over, checks your I.D., then unlocks the register (enters a password).
Stores have NO IDEA how to comply with this yet.
Personally, I think they should just alter the software.
As it was, you scanned the alcohol, it registered, but, would not allow you to proceed until you were approved.
I propose you scan your alcohol, NOTHING is registered, but an “alert” is sounded. Then, the attendant comes over and has to unlock the register, THEN THE ATTENDANT rings it up.
This is exactly why government needs to keep the hell out of our businesses!
Some stores now operate ONLY with self-serve registers!!
Are you putting them out of business?

Posted on October 15, 2011 at 9:54am“The former mayor of Carmel is ”not a fan” of the current president.
Clint Eastwood told Katie Couric during a CBSNews.com interview that President Barack Obama is doing what he can to stay in his job, but that he’s not actually “governing.”
Eastwood supported Obama’s Republican challenger John McCain two years ago, but the politically active actor is no right winger. He backed California Gov. Gray Davis, a Democrat, for example, during the recall campaign that eventually led to Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger being elected.
Nevertheless, publicly coming out against Obama — less than two weeks before mid-term elections — definitely puts Eastwood in the minority in famously liberal Hollywood.
Eastwood, though, is laying low compared to others in Hollywood who don’t support Obama. Kelsey Grammer recently launched RightNetwork, for example, and Jon Voight has been speaking at Tea Party rallies.
And then there’s Clint Howard, Ron’s brother, who stars in two online commercials: one that trashes Obama’s tax policies, and a newer one from writer-director David Zucker that goofs on Sen. Barbara Boxer’s famous “I-worked-so-hard-to get that-title” comment.”

Posted on October 15, 2011 at 9:43amWe could use “Dirty Harry” and the old Clint Eastwood characters NOW, that’s for sure! But, probably not as Vice President. I think Dick Cheney added decorum and experience. He surely beat the hell out of the buffoon that’s currently performing (or not).

Posted on October 15, 2011 at 10:08amDick Cheney was the other George Bush’s VP. This was his father who picked Cheney as Secretary of Defense, but whose Vice-President was Dan Quayle who, well, let’s just say that decorum and experience aren’t usually the first two words that spring to mind. However, this would have made Clint VP during the time that he made Unforgiven, my all-time favorite Eastwood movie, so I’m just as glad it didn’t come to that.
