Which MSNBC Host Considers Himself a ‘Conservative?’

The estimable Matt Lewis over at Politics Daily was an eyewitness to Dylan Ratigan’s admission:

More from Matt:

Ratigan went on to clarify, adding that, “you can do whatever you want. The social [issues] … I could care less. …”

Sadly, Ratigan didn’t get to finish explaining, but it was still an interesting moment — if for no other reason that that it is generally assumed that most MSNBC hosts are liberal Democrats.

Personally, I’ve always found Ratigan to be more of an intellectually honest, cynical iconoclast who is hard to pigeonhole. While he clearly has some conservative leanings, I was surprised to hear him describe himself as “a conservative.”

I think someone just won the office pool on who could use the word ‘Iconoclast’ in a story today!

Well it really doesn’t take much to be to the right of anyone on MSNBC.

Bush and McCain also called themselves “Conservatives” and we saw what happened. Maybe instead of people like that labelling themselves, they should let everyone else decide which category they fall in.

someone wrote that they have heard him lean a little right. I don’t watch the man so my posting is more about what their definition of conservative is. Right now there are so many labels going around…”I’m a Constitution conservative“ ”I’m socially liberal but a fiscal conservative”. we just keep labeling ourselves which in turn divides us. How do we get out of this? i haven’t a clue. we see the problem but not the cure. I feel that the TPP have the right idea. We all agree on the basics…small gov’t, going back to the constitution. the other stuff especially abortion are a small slice of the pie.. once we can get back to the states having their sovereignty restored, all else will fall in line. Glenn has talked about the paradigm shift that is happening and it is…all around. amazing stuff. I have faith and trust in the American people. i equate what is happening as birthing pains..GB used this analogy a few years ago and I believe that this is it…we are in the final transition (9 centimeters maybe?) before the wondrous event of birth. sorry about the rambling…my medicine is kicking in.

BTW…I really enjoy reading the comments here. I also go to HuffPo and fortunately haven’t been kicked out…yet. :)

It’s become blindingly evident that Fox has the best ratings–and that’s with their Conservative views. So, it should surprise no one when the wannabes at places like MSNBC start to glom onto the success any way they can. The next thing you know Chris Matthews will be declaring himself a Libertarian, and that his love affair with Comrade Obama was nothing but the result of Jedi mind-tricks. Oh, the desire for fame!

As a conservative reading this blog and others across the spectrum, I have to say: will this blind hatred for the other side never end? If you are a conservative you are hated by liverals, if you are a liberal you are hated by conservatives. Is there no love left? Am I now to be hated?

Has nothing to do with hate on well, my side of things. Has everything to do with hating every stupid little thing the liberals do to take away our freedoms. I for one see the Republicans and Democrats as Progressives. So yeah, I hate their Progressive agenda.

I wonder why he felt the need to even say that ‘on-air’. Is it that he sees the handwriting on the wall for this mid-term election cycle ? Is it that he sees the liberal/progressive posture of the MSNBC cable outlet has become totally irrelevant for rational, thinking beings ?

If you wonder how Ratigan ended up at MSNBC you might want to check his background out on Google or your favorite Radio/TV info source.

This is nonsence. You can’t a job at MSNBC if you are a conservative. What Ratigan is telling Imelt and Zucker is a lot different from what he is telling his audience. Not atypical for Ratigan.

Backstage, he probably realized that everyone he spoke to or interracted with was a complete nutjob. Being different from that crowd doesn’t make you conservative, it just means you are slightly less insane.
