While MSNBC Leans, Fox News Moves Forward

As we’ve noted (and subsequently mocked), MSNBC recently launched a new re-branding campaign entitled, “Lean forward.” According to the network, the new motto is a statement of how it wants to be considered the place for ideas that will move the country forward. Phil Griffin, the president of MSNBC, recently told the New York Times that this new tagline “defines us and defines our competition,” the implication being that MSNBC’s biggest competitor — the Fox News Channel — is leaning backward.
But in a new twist, Fox is now stepping up the rhetorical battle with its cable news competitors and specifically one-upping MSNBC with new ads that are titled “Move Foward.”
Mediaite helped debut the new Fox television ads Wednesday. “America is not a nation of wallflowers. Americans are not afraid to act, to fight, to do,” the narrator says in one of the new Fox ads. “In this country, we don’t stand still, we don’t lean; we move forward.”
Fox isn’t the only one taking less-than-subtle jabs at the new MSNBC ad campaign:

Commenting on Fox’s new ad campaign, Mediaite’s Steve krakauer notes, “The subtle reference to MSNBC insures it won’t be seen as a petty attack ad, but the connotation is obvious,” he writes. “Is it easy? Sure. But with Jon Stewart getting in on the joke, it was only a matter of time before Fox News leaned into poking MSNBC.”
What does MSNBC think of Fox’s new ads? An MSNBC spokesman told the New York Times today: “This is exactly what we set out to do: create a national conversation to move the country forward. We’re thrilled Fox News has decided to join us.”

Posted on October 20, 2010 at 7:18pmBTW: I want to say kudos to The Blaze as well. During the 2008 election the Fox (and Fox-related web sites) were horrible. That comment systems never worked. The left was ALL OVER US when it came to web technology. I could NEVER get a comment up on Fox.com, it always lost my password or pages timed out.
We need to be SUPER-READY for 2012. When is this site going to get Forums? If you are afraid you don’t want them I will volunteer to be a moderator (to keep spam out).
The Blaze is a great site, but you need a way for us to start our own topics instead of just commenting on yours.
As I have said, I already freelance for FoxBiz (that is a cruise travel column and has nothing to do with me being here), but I am ready to move into the political area as well. I am a web development “pro” (I have been a professional board moderator since 1995).
Let’s Move Forward with GREAT WEB INTERFACES for conservatives for the 2012 elections!!! (because 2008 was a disaster for us conservatives, I distinctly recall).
Right now one of the better open comment conservative web sites is freerepublic.com and that interface is right out of 1994. Come on conservatives, want to put your money someplace? Put it into dominating the Internet in 2012!!!

BTW, all of your suggestion are sound ones and should be implemented.

Posted on October 20, 2010 at 7:17pmFox News, fair and balanced! MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, don’t lean forward, they lean left. They can’t fall on their faces, they can only hurt their left shoulders when they fall.

Posted on October 20, 2010 at 6:58pmI saw the new slogam – MOVE forward, and I love it. I was concerned MSNBC might have some momentum with a new ad campaign, but the fact that FOW can come up with a better slogan MOVE forward (more active, more meaningful) shows how much smarter they are. I love it.
Also – see, John Stewart is NOT a liberal slut, he actually does get the fact that we do “get it.” and how cluless MSNBC can be in getting the point.

Posted on October 20, 2010 at 7:46pmNaw, Since Obama is coming on his Daily Show on October 27th, he is just trying to claim he is ‘fair and balanced’ in advance. As though a slightly jabbing joke at MSNBC equals pandering to the president.

Posted on October 20, 2010 at 7:15pmMSNBC – Lean forward…movement from a standing position to a forward direction without movement of the feet and legs. By depending on the law of gravity and momentum, eventually contact with the ground is made face first and usually with a loud THUD!!!
FOX – Move forward…the art of moving the feet in the direction you are facing and heading onward to a destination you are seeking or just moving in that direction for the fun of it.
Note the differences.
