‘Whiny’: GOP Strategist Slams Gov. Christie Over Blizzard Absence

Mediaite:

Not even a charming week in Disney World could temper New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s curmudgeonly disposition to the press, as he greeted them upon his return unapologetic about missing this week’s snowpocalypse and generally disgruntled that his judgment was questioned. The grumpiness was reciprocated on CNN by GOP strategist Ed Rollins, who chastised the governor for being “whiny” about the criticism after not “being there.”

Christie answered the criticisms in a press conference today, where he explained that he had been “on the phone” with many in the administration– and many in the press– and that he refused to cancel his children’s “Christmas present.” The excuse that both his plans and those of Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno to travel to Mexico this week were long in place did not sit very well with Rollins, who, while admitting to be a “big Christie fan,” found the need to go to Disney World insufficient:

“I’m a big Christie fan. He’s a role model of a lot of Republican governors who are coming in. In time of crisis– and this snowstorm has been a crisis, whether it’s in New York City or New Jersey– you’ve got to be at the helm. And I’ve seen many many governors and mayors in the past destroy their careers by not being here.”

    Really? Are you kidding?

    1. The people of NJ need either their Governor or their Lt. Governor to be physically within the state boundries to be able to handle a snow storm? I have a bit more faith in the people of NJ than either of these pinhead pundits. Maybe the two of them live in NJ and they couldn’t figure out what to do with a little snow so they are upset. Dunno.

    2. A snowstorm in December in NJ is what the bald guy defines as a crisis? We always just called them snowstorms. Like in, “Never let a good snowstorm go to waste”. We used to say that all the time when we were waxing our sleds. Sometimes they are even better in January and February. Whenever they came we would get our snow shovels and rock salt and take care of things. We didn’t have snow blowers. Shoot, fire had only been discovered a few years before that. We would help our neighbors who couldn’t shovel and each do a part of the road. The folks with 4X4′s would pack the stuff down and we were good to go. I don’t even remember my kids missing a day of school for snow in a bunch of years. Personally, I was never sure where my governor was at that time. It never occured to me that I should care where he was. He probably didn’t have time to shovel my road anyway. He was probably doing something more important than worrying about my road. Or, maybe he happened to be on his PRE-planned vacation enjoying time with his family. One year my neighbor was on vacation in Arizona when we had a crisis; er, I mean a snow storm. So I shovelled his driveway and the street in front of his house after I did mine. When he and his family came home he thanked me and gave me a six pack of Sam Adams. That seemed okay to me, but he really didn’t have to do it. I knew he would have done the same for me if I was on vacation. I enjoyed the Sam Adams, even if it was from a Communist country. No, wait, Massachusettes isn’t a country, it’s just Communist, sorry. I didn’t even know that we had a Lt. Governor. I wonder who it was?

    3. Christie sounded to me like he was abreast of what was happening and had a plan in place PRIOR to leaving NJ in the case of an emergency. It sounds like the plan worked well. If you have a contingency plan in place, for emergencies, and you trust the people who are standing in for you, why would you cut short your trip and return? If that be the case, you might as well not have a contingency plan. The Dem they referred to (speaker of the house in NJ?) apparently did a darn good job doing whatever needed to be done. I guess he was shoveling his drive and road. Where’s the concern? Oh, maybe the pinhead pundits don’t understand what it is to have good people that you can trust within your organization. After all, they do work for CNN.

    4. Christie didn’t sound whiney to me. It’s a shame he addressed the gutless press and explained any of it. They should have been at home shoveling their driveways and roads. Were it me, I’d have told them to …er,…um…get back to me later. Honestly, I wouldn’t have been so civil, but I feel a responsibility to the Blaze to maintain some minimum standard of decorum.

    5. The two talking heads did sound whiney to me. And to the point of bald guy who said (something like) “and I’m a Christie fan” or whatever he said as preface, I’m always doubly suspicious of anyone who starts out with stuff like “some of my best friends are black” or “I’ve got tons of friends who are gay” when they want to make a point. Usually, in my experience, the exact opposite is true and the next thing out of their mouth is pure BS. Your experience may be different.

    6. If Christie is asking, or plans to ask, the Feds for any help he drops a big notch or two in my opinion. I love the guys independent streak, and his skepticism of anything Federal and his “in their face” attitude with any of the people or entities that want to play political games at the expense of the people of NJ. I hope the pinhead pundits are misreporting that. If not, shame on you Gov. Christie. I’m not going to call you when we have our next snowstorm,..er crisis, down here in Florida.
    Peace.

Christie is probably damned if he does; and damned if he doesn’t. If he’d come back to NJ from Disney to deal with the snow issue [insert eyeroll here] (as if his presence would’ve made the snow magically disappear) and broke his children’s hearts as, obviously, this was their Christmas present, someone would have blasted him for his lack of ‘family values’ placing his job before his family.

The bottom line is he didn’t have to be physically in the state. In these days of video conferencing, and instant communications,it doesn’t matter where he sits behind a desk, all the same resources are available to him from any internet connected computer or smartphone.
A sign of a good chief executive is the ability to delegate, and the state was in competent hands during the crisis. Why did the Governor have to be there? For photo ops?so the press could throw a few snowballs at him.?…Such nonsense.
In NYC where I live(Brooklyn too!),Mayor bloomberg swore that everything was ok,he was in the city and it changed nothing except for press access to him.He still had no clue except for what he was told.
NJ was doing ok in handling things,it‘s not like they don’t know what a big snowfall requires from the state.

Rollines should be discribed as the Crinch that would have stolen the Governor‘s kid’s Christmas if he were running the show.

Governor Christie was able to handle the emergency by phone and teleconferencing. Why should he try to fly back to NJ during a blizzard and get stuck in transit where he may not have had adequate communications with his emergency crew? How ridiculous and petty to keep blaming people–Governor Christie, President Bush for Katrina. Everyone knows their job (street cleaners, emergency personnel) so if these whiners don’t like being not being on an emegency snow route, get off their lazy liberal b u t t and start shoveling. The effort (real physical work) might take some of the hate out of these people’s attitudes. It’s only a crisis if you call it a crisis–things may be difficult for a few days, but the inconvenience will pass.

Only someone who never takes a day off or goes on vacation or even has quality family time would expect Christie to not take vacation or leave his family in the middle of it because of a snow storm, even a big one. Now maybe a major hurricane or a bad tornado, maybe. Maybe for a major terriorist attack, but a friggin snow storm? What exactly to they have emergency management and service personnel for? What do they have snowplows, graders, salt and road gravel for? The mark of a good manager or executive is that he has good subordinates who can do their job if the big whig(s) just get the hell out of the way (which is exactly what Christie did). I agree. It appears that Christie knew more about what was going on in New Jersey (the whole state) than bloomberg did in New York City! It took him days to discover that snow removal was not as efficient as previous years – rather than find the cause, he chose to defend a questionable work effort (costing at least two lives). Afterward, he plans to find the cause. Christie, on the other hand, has to explain how New Jersey could function without his presence. Give me a break.

Christie needs to be known as a man of his word, by his children. Had his children perceived themselves of less value than others, or as a man not of his word, we would all lose. Christie did the right thing. And, all he needed to say was, “I am a man of my word.“ ”I kept my word.“ ”Next question?”

“The data found from the producers shows that one of the chemicals being sprayed is aluminum oxide which is toxic to all life,” said an angry Johnson. “Alzheimer’s has increased rapidly since they started spraying in the late 1990s.”

Despite the fact that the chemtrail spraying has reportedly been going on since around 1998, there is little official recognition of the issue and in most cases out right denial. Johnson hopes that by bringing attention to the issue, it can be forced out into the open before too much damage is done.

Kind of interesting how you don’t hear the same outrage about the vacationer in chief. Golf outings, trips to europe, Hawaii and leaving the liar in chief at the Presedential podium for a Christmas party. Tools everyone…

I think we all know this, these dogs work for some establishment republican who has a dog in the race, no pun intended. The only good thing is Chris isn‘t from NY or he wouldn’t be shoveling out. Either way, I hope he does get in the office we need someone who can tell both the world and these selfish bast@rds to go home and clean out Washington.
