WASHINGTON (AP) — A top White House economic adviser says the upward tilt over the past six months in new jobs is a better indicator of the nation’s employment picture than a gloomy report Friday that warned of slow growth ahead.
Austan Goolsbee, who heads the president’s Council of Economic Advisers, says the addition of a million new jobs over the past six months shows “we have improved a long way from when the economy was in rescue mode.”
Employers added 54,000 jobs in May, the fewest in eight months, and Friday’s report showed that the unemployment rate had inched up to 9.1 percent.
Goolsbee tells ABC’s “This Week” that the jobs report indicates the economy was “somewhat slowed,“ but he insists the numbers are ”highly variable.”

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 1:13pmHis mouth moved, like Obama’s mouth – it doesn’t change the facts nor does it “minimize” anything – it’s all about spin politics. So many U.S. citizens are blind and cannot see, deaf and cannot hear, and dumb – are willing to watch their country go down in flames.

I think Mr. Goolsbee is somewhat slow.
Report Post »I think real unemployment is somewhat higher than 9.1%
I think the President is somewhat incompetent.
I think Congressman Weiner is somewhat careless and somewhat arrogant.
I think most flash mobs appear to be comprised, somewhat, of ethnic minorities, or, as they are more commonly known these days… “young people”.
I think Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s thighs are somewhat large. Okay… they’re large.
I think John Edwards is somewhat screwed.
I think John Kerry served in Vietnam — somewhat.
I think the main stream media is somewhat Liberal.
I think Bill lLinton would debate the meaning of the word “somewhat”.
I think Liberalism has somewhat caused the decline of a great nation.
I think Detroit, Chicago, New Orleans and Philadelphia and D.C. are somewhat corrupt cities.
I think most Americans are somewhat pissed at the condition the country is in.
I think the amount of BS coming out of Washington will increase in the next 17 months – somewhat.
I think America will vote for change in 2012. No “somewhat” about it.

Teach your children well!! Aim small, miss small!! Gun and ammo prices are gonna spike this year and 2012 just like they did in 2008, but much more!!
The FBI says that crime is down even though there are so many unemployed with already expired benefits. The BATFE/DHS claim that since late 2008, over 12 million (12,000,000) completed weapons applications have been filed. When another SIX MILLION to lose benefits this year, all they are gonna get is food stamps, SNAP worth $200/mo. Nothing for rent, utilities, etc… Single moms w/kids will get more, but of the SIX MILLION, FOUR and a HALF MILLION are MEN! Unless they wanna live on the street, they are gonna have to get the money someplace-YOUR PLACE!!

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 10:05amThis news seems to be especially troubling to the loyal democrats.
I have had two of my family members who are die-hard democrats complain about the media’s portrayal of the joblessness reports these past few days.
The most hilarious (troubling) comment I heard came from my Mother’s Husband who thought that the media was being unfair because they should be reporting that 91% of the people are employed, not that 9% are unemployed.
No fooling.
These are the same people that thought it was the end of the world when we had 5% unemployment under Bush.

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 8:34amEvery month, 90,000 new workers enter the workforce – if we keep on creating 50,000 jobs/month, after 12 months we’ll have almost a half a million newly unemployed Americans (12 x 40,000 = 480,000), and that completely ignores what goes on in the existing workforce – that’s only looking at the just over one million new workers that enter the workforce each year (12 x 90,000 = 1,080,000)…

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 5:04amFunny how this administration finds a way to spin everything so that it looks like Obama has actually done anything as far as the jobless rate. I don’t think that 9.1 percent unemployment after 3 years of his so-called laser like focus on jobs and the economy is a very good report card. Obama’s resume is actually worse now than when he was running for President, but there are still idiots out there defending him like he is their best buddy. Lord please wake up enough decent Americans to get this imposter out of OUR white house and into the unemployment lines.

I liked the “we’re producing more gasoline and natural gas than anytime since 2007″ the administration shared… So in 2006 we were producing MORE that we do now? Why are we producing less than in 2006 – has demand increased or decreased?

Sarah Palin is riding around like she is running and saying she is not??? Mike Huckabee said he was not running, and now he says he might??? Donald Trump announced that he was exploring, then he is not running, oh and now he may again???
All these other candidates are making the republican party look like they are not serious. Too many pans in the fire only lead to a meal that is not eaten, and when you backtrack on the American people what are you going to do in the White House? Something Like Obama?

Posted on June 7, 2011 at 2:16pmWhile I agree Cain should be on the ticket, I’m not sold on the top of the ticket. My personal veiw, if we could get her to run would be Condi Rice. Her knowledge of foreign affairs is impecable. She is a black female that could out debate obama without breaking a sweet. First female president, with a black vice president (with great business sense). The media couldn’t call us racists (you would think). We would have two conservatives with the country’s best interest at heart, and a bonus, CONDI / CAIN 2012 (say it a few times) would sound appealing to all the people who pay no attention to politics.

You are quite correct. Three of the smaller towns in my area are having roads paved over right now, that were paved over in 2009 as part of the stimulus. As a registered Democrat-gotta be in this county, I made the mistake then and now of asking how many locals were gonna be hired to work the crews at the county meetings? Even standing there all day with the ‘Slow/Stop’ sign pays $22hr. NOT ONE LOCAL! There is a company in town that has the equipment, but has been closed since 2009. I spoke to the owner and asked if he even bid. He did, after making sure he had a crew (all laid off in 2009 when state and local contracts went to out of state UNION repped companies). He bid $12k lower than the out of state company!! Why did he not get it? The new Federal hiring policy of having ‘certified’ copies of Birth Certificates requirement. 1 of his former employees, a 63yr old white male, born in this county, had not gotten his certified copy in time. The state lost 2 requests for the doc and kept his money each time. Ignoring the fact he had a valid passport, retired military ID card, DD214, drivers license, had spent his entire life here, save for the 20 years he was in the Army, stationed less than 100 miles from this county…. BULL MARDE!!
Folks, there are gonna be SIX MILLION unemployed with expired benefits this year. Go to the state/fed sites, do the math. 26% of working age Americans are out of work!! Not 9%, 26%!!

I often wonder if there is a special math course Democratic politicians and their support staffs have to pass before they can assume office.
