White House: Bin Laden Was Unarmed During Raid

Osama bin Laden was unarmed when he was confronted by U.S. commandos at his Pakistani hideout but tried to resist the assault, the White House said Tuesday as new details emerged about the audacious raid that killed the world’s most wanted terrorist.

In a press briefing today, White House press secretary Jay Carney noted that “resistance does not require a firearm.”

The White House said it was considering whether to release photos that were taken of bin Laden after he was killed but was concerned that the photos were “gruesome” and could be inflammatory.

Other details that emerged on Tuesday, according to U.S. officials: One of bin Laden’s wives tried to rush the commandos and was shot in the leg. High temperatures caused a lumbering helicopter carrying the raiders to make a hard landing. And as Navy SEALs swept through the compound, they handcuffed those they encountered with plastic zip ties and pressed on in pursuit of their target, code-named Geronimo.

Once bin Laden had been shot, they doubled back to move the prisoners away from the compound before blowing up the downed helicopter.

The fuller picture of the high-stakes assault emerged as U.S. officials weighed whether to release video and photos of bin Laden, who was killed with a shot above his left eye.

    Deliberate conflicting disinformation is always used to bury the real facts…Is osama dead? I think so. But I always thought he was killed years ago. Think about it. With all that has been going on in the ME, osama would have put out some video…you know he loved to do that..

    Remember, the SEALS don’t “exist”, so they cannot confirm or deny what happened..

      Well, the SEaLs do exist. ST6, on the other hand, are generally more covert. They are the “Men in Black”. But the other SEaL teams do exist. I’ve been onboard submarines that have done special ops with various teams. I’ve met them, ate with them, played cards with them, and helped load and unload their gear (with the exception of a few “special packs” that contain their firearms and ordinances).

      But yes, your point is valid. Nobody from ST6 can come out and say – “Hey, I wasn’t there. I was watching Rio with my wife”

    Yes, Osama is gone, so let’s get back to why gas is too high and why small business and folks are struggling to put food on the table. I think Obama needs to forget about Osama. It’s over, it’s done, and there are more important problems facing “We the People”. Get back to work Obama, and figure out how we’re going to survive…. Stop sending Pakistan, Haiti, and others money. You have enough starving and poor people in your own back yard! WAKE UP AND LOOK HOW MANY PEOPLE DEPEND ON MEDICARE, FOOD STAMPS, AND CAN’T PAY BILLS. Are you asleep at the wheel in D.C. or your golf game keeping you up at night so you can’t concentrate on us?

    What’s is like to get on Air Force One and spend tax payers money, money, money, money, and have three other jets (one on each side and one above) giving you the best security and burning fuel like there’s no tomorrow? Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention the Enterage who follows with bullit proof cars, wardrobe and little elves that help you dress, cook your food and put tooth paste on your brush for you… How could that have slipped by me? I’m sure I left out something.
    How about staying at home a couple months in a row (Whitehouse) and see what it’s like to go nowhere, have no vacations, no money to enjoy a simple meal out from time to time, and worry how you’re going to pay bills. Try it, you may like it! It will certainly teach you how to budget, as I don’t think you have a clue what a “budget” is.

    I do not care if they shot him while he was asleep,…he deserved death. Now that I got that out of the way….I want to say this. Does our government ever get their story right?. Obama must have had a hand in the first version of the killing. Obama is a consummate liar. I am surprised that the first story was: ‘obama fought hand to hand with osama and strangled him’. What will be the next correction? Will they say we did not kill him and we found that his wife had killed him two hours before we got there.?

    Lets get the truth before we celebrate Bin Ladens death. This story does not add up. all you are getting is what the government is telling you. This looks the exact same as the BC with in minutes of its release everyone was saying thats it its official same with Bin Laden they will release a photo that doesnt look anything like him and will say thats it.       You will care if a team of government officials come through your door and double tap you and then the administration says well Beck2012 was resisting arrest. The reporter will say Beck2012 didn’t have a weapon. Then administration will say, you don’t need a weapon to resist arrest.

      This scares the living hell out of me. Obama ran on giving these people their day in trial, but we are going to assasinate OBL because he “resisted arrest unarmed?” What about his day? Don’t get me wrong I have no tears for his death, if he really died this year. I am very skeptical about this whole deal. It has been one lie after the other, who do you trust? Your gut feelings or your government run by a pathological liar?

      Well I agree, last thing I would wanted to see is him go up for trial and all the bs that goes with it. It just doesn’t really make sense to me. Further more, why even say he was unarmed that was information that just didn’t need to be released. I would of more than likely done the same thing, although I think beating the living heck out of him to get intel before killing him would been the better choice. That’s all I was saying. Then again like everyone else I don’t know the full story that might be just what happen… don’t really know now do we?

      yeah..SEALs can kill you a 100 ways without a gun…why double tap an unarmed old ill man in the head and chest…they could have beat him senseless first and then cuffed his butt….but then again… remember the initial reports… Obama issued a “kill order” not a “capture or kill” order…so Obama wanted him DOA no matter what….because a trial would distract him from his campaign and point out all his weaknesses on National Security…and all the intel they gathered from the compound would come out at trial and point to the terror cells inside the US made up of illegals and Hamas crossing our southern border that Obama wants to keep open…this smells more and more with each “revision” from the Administration…

      Don’t know if I said it here or elsewhere but IMO if special forces went hunting for OBL they would pop him vs capture. Mainly due to the circus with KSM and the rest of the degenerates living at The Resort De Gitmo not to mention the fact that he deserves it. Whether he was armed or not no one will know(maybe) but this new story being pitched by Carnival Carney fits perfectly into why they dont want to show the pics. They watched this thing unfold in situation room which means cams were rolling, probably helmet cams. Who wants to bet there is vid footage of the take down!?

      There now has been set the precidence for the use of the military to terminate a target without the chance of surrender. ANYTHING now is fair game, foreign or domestic, with the administration. The Obama group, with this statement, now has crossed the line of total usage of force as an option on those they regard as enemies within the nation.

      if he was unarmed how is it that he was shot in defence…npr just about an hour ago aired that he was killed while attempting to kill one/more of the seals. he was’nt going to go quietly.good, now that’s one less thing the gov. and holder are going to steal our money for.
      like the muslim clerics being offended about the pc burial. the usurper and chief and co. tried to make it as muslim and pc as possible. the clerics are all saying no good. the burial at sea is a time honored burial for lots of culturs, but because the US was involved it is too christian.

      seriously tho, I find this interesting…so they round everyone up after killing OBL and move them to a safe location so they can blow the copter. I’m wondering if they were brought to a safe place that wouldnt allow them to see a body bag being loaded onto the copter. Or even a tall guy with plastic cuffs and a black bag on his head being loaded into a copter. Not saying I believe they didnt kill OBL, but I‘d think there would be alot of good info in that noggin of his that we’d love to explore. If he isnt dead now, he will be eventually whether we get the info out of him or not. Again, just a thought.

      If I were in charge of this operation, I’d want him alive if he could be taken alive, but I sure as heck wouldnt want a trial and the ruckus that would create worldwide. It sure would make things alot less potentially messy if the world thinks he’s dead. And again, if I were in charge he WOULD be dead once we either had all the information or came to the conclusion that he wasnt giving it up.

      You had 2 12 man teams, giving 24 operatives total…1 team secured and searched outer building upon hard landing while second team secured the three story compound…

      Clearing a room is one by one and occasionally clearing in groups of two or three..Upon entering a room and having contact, sight, of the HVT one immediately asses the room for threat and orders surrender…

      A woman lunged at the “team”, resulting in a leg shot, meaning she wasn’t a threat in terms of death so a leg shot neutralized her disturbance..

      You then have little children and Osama in the room…Osama said to be unarmed..A group of seals can take an unarmed Osama alive with their eyes closed….A good slap of a rifle butt knocks anyone out…

      He was shot dead by us or by a guard member, either way, he was assassinated…Osama wasn’t coming back alive to wreak more havoc..

      Good job team…

      Let me pose a question. Now that is supposedly over or the head of the snake has been removed can we feel safer now from the threat of radical Islam? I would say no. We are now more vulnerable to mass murder of American civilians. It will happen and you people will kick and scream and the horror of it all and they will be animals and dogs.. They’ll need to be wrapped w/ bacon and fed to dogs..etc

      But what was the issue AlQueda had with America to begin with? I thougth I understood the real issue at the heart of all of this was our Bases in Arabia and the Middle East and our arming of the Israelis. Is there not one just one rational peson in America that will be allowed to appear on any Media and address the real issues of why we are at War??? Oh my god. This is insane! Address the root of the problem. Why must we have bases in the Middle East? China doesn’t. Russian doesn’t. Germany doesn’t. They are all ok?

      I find this all so absurd.. We are forced to surrender our liberties and blow all of our treasure not to mention the blood sacrifise on fighting a never ending war without ever attempting to get to the root of the problem??? What is wrong with this picture?

      Also, do you think Osama would talk or choose to be a martyr while in our custody? If we did say shock him to get intel, he’d die from his kidney failure making him a martyr…

      If we brought him here or Gitmo how many followers would attack to free him…

      The HVT was terminated so to protect us…To prevent him gaining power from capture, to prevent attacks to free him, to prevent his martyr while in our custody…Eliminating the threat was the only option..

      OKIE, you make some good points and a offer an insiders perspective of what happens and your post has got me thinking about the factor that usually debunks fascinating conspiracy theories: the number of people who would have to be in on it. All of the operators, the pilots, the “eyes in the sky”, all in communication with the team, the members of the administration, those on board the Carl Vinson who handled the body, cleaned it, dumped it, photographed / videotaped it. And I‘m sure I’m missing more. That is a whole lot of mouths to keep shut for what might be the most important and definitely the most visible CT operation in history. I know for a fact that operators and to a lesser extent others in the Intelligence community are good at keeping mum, but we both also know that they sometimes are willing to share that info with trusted ones and others in their “community”, and sometimes these things eventually come to light on some level.

      As far as burial, again, Carl Vinson is no row boat…I‘m positive they didn’t announce over the horn to come to Osama burial ceremony…Lol..I’m sure though if one tried to contact Carl Vinson operatives, they would find someone saw the choppers and saw abnormal activity…

      I highly doubt those of low clearance would “know” but could give insight of the abnormal activity…

      Tech – the bases are just a reason they give. The truth is they can’t get over something that happened hundreds of years to nearly a thousand years ago. Much of the hate stems from the Crusades. While the Crusades were ill conceived it does not make sense to continue to hate “anyone” from the west due to what happened centuries ago.

      Bin Laden twisted the help America gave to the Afghanis during the Russian occupation making us as bad as the Russians. This is a good reason for the US to get away from Libya as fast as possible. Years from now those that we help in Libya may very well bite the hand that fed them as well. Especially since they were trained by the likes of Bin Laden.

      Who knows after all we’ve heard, but I believe a lethal head shot was too humane. He should have been shot in the kneecap and then shot with a tranquilizer dart, then incarcerated and interrogated for as long as he was useful. And all of it should be very visible to the public.

      Dumping him at sea was downright stupid unless you’re trying to cover something up.

      I may be wrong, but my gut feeling is that they had an aerial view and e.g., saw the chopper go down. I don’t think an operation of this nature can be carried out successfully if civilians are embedded, even if only virtually.

      No because it is free trade. I haven’t seen any guns to the heads of the middle east nations to sell other nations their oil. OPEC sets the price in American Dollars. It has been the standard currency for many years – your point?. However, China is already making waves about that and trying to get that changed. Like I said we pay a fair price for the small amount of oil we purchase from them. You are the one sounding like “them” (I presume you are meaning the left). You are using the America the Imperialist Nation argument. Are you saying America is in the wrong in purchasing any oil from nations outside the US?

      Not exactly sure why you are going off on me when my comment was about the root of middle east frustration which does lead back to the Crusades.

      I can understand your point concerning the Crusade theory to a point..I will say the USA never conducted a crusade, did they? So why attack us and not Rome? 

      First though look at the history, Arabs were mere camel jockeys going from oasis to oasis until when? Until big oil companies showed them what oil was, how to extract and how to make a dime..All fine and dandy…upon this occurrence, Government/Big oil made a deal with these countries, oil in dollars for knowledge and protection…Since then US continued to expand in the ME slowly propping up dictators in exchange for good deals including the Sheiks…Normal joes of the ME see them as US puppets…Just as we would see our pres as a puppet if reversed…

      Why do you think China is making those waves? Because it benefits the country in which their currency is being used..In this example, US $…

      Look how freaked out people are about Arabs owning part of our banks, lands, etc…Now imagine if they built a base here with US permission…You really honestly do not think some would go nuts? Have you seen posts on here now…I need not say more…

      Back to the crusades, again, we never launched one but being a half intelligent Muslim, Osama and others saw how fighting in the name of “Allah” with us against the Soviets moved a great mass of folks…Once we became buddy buddy with the Saudis, OPEC etc he used same against us…It’s manipulation 101 on all sides and we are all paying for it…

      Again I mean you no insults, I greatly appreciate good dialogue as I know not everything and can learn a lot from all here…But lowering ourselves to Lewinsky tactics only makes us divide…Let’s keep it civil upon disagreements..

      I didn’t address this: No, we are not wrong for purchasing oil, but when did purchase mean to build a Naval Base, a lot troops in their country and influence the governments so much they are viewed as puppets…

      My concern for us is Arabs coming here to setup shop is coming faster then we believe… we are piss broke, while OPEC countries sit on cash and oil…Could they buy US debt for land and build bases to protect it? 

      Americans would flip…And rightfully so..

      Those pics don’t prove they watched the whole operation live, but if they did, it was a bad move. I wouldn’t want to run the risk of lefty ideologues and Islamist sympathizers getting in the way, if I were the Commander in charge of that operation. What’s the point, anyway? They can get the video after the fact.

      The whole live feed MO bothers me greatly. IMO, it sets a bad precedent. If it is true, I see it as another dictatorial move on Hussein’s part.

      Of course I am believing BHO is pleased about all of this. He didn’t want OBL taken alive, he would have talked and implicated our government.

      TECHENGINEER: Yes thats the reason they have a hatred for us. Initially we supported the then (mujahadeen) taliban along with Usama by supplying them weapons when the Russians were in Afghanistan. Years later when Saddam invaded Kuwait Usama offered his army of muslim fighters to the Kuwaiti government but they decided to let us come free them. That enraged Usama because it was a muslim fight and he felt offended that they would chose the West. Then we began to occupy their lands with various bases and interfere in their affairs and attempt to tell them how to run their country. That is the root of the problem, its a foriegn policy issue not the days of the crusades where its christians vs. muslims. If people would only take two seconds and think about as rational human beings instead a beating the war drum they could see it

      His right to freedom of speech only guarantees no interference by the govt. Employers have the right to set standards of behaviour for employees. If they feel an employees public statements reflect badly on the company there is plenty of precedent for disciplining those employees if in violation of their contract.

      Too many people think that Freedom of Speech means there should be no consequences for speech people find offensive. For example, The Dixie Chicks had the right to criticize Prez Bush while in a foreign country. The govt was prohibited from retaliating. But people that found their remarks offensive had the right to exercise their freedom of expression by boycotting (and encouraging the boycotting) of the chicks.
