WH Debt Talks Last Just 50 Minutes, Obama Tells Congress to Refrain from ‘Reckless Political Games’

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama met for less than an hour Saturday with congressional leaders in debt crisis talks, and a leading Republican said afterward that top lawmakers were “committed to working on new legislation” to cut federal spending and avert an unprecedented U.S. default.
There were no immediate signs of a breakthrough, however. The lawmakers and Obama were unsmiling as the meeting began, and most of them avoided reporters when they left the White House.
In a statement released afterward, the White House said, “Congress should refrain from playing reckless political games with our economy. Instead, it should be responsible and do its job, avoiding default and cutting the deficit.” The statement renewed Obama’s insistence that any agreement tide the government over until after the 2012 elections, to avoid a rerun of the debt dispute in the heat of the campaign.
Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell issued a somewhat more upbeat statement of his own.
“The president wanted to know that there was a plan for preventing national default,” he said. “The bipartisan leadership in Congress is committed to working on new legislation that will prevent default while substantially reducing Washington spending.”
House Speaker John Boehner also pledged to work for a bipartisan solution.
“As I said last night, over this weekend Congress will forge a responsible path forward,” he said in a statement. “House and Senate leaders will be working to find a bipartisan solution to significantly reduce Washington spending and preserve the full faith and credit of the United States.”
The meeting followed a collapse in negotiations late Friday, when Boehner announced he was breaking off talks with the president. A visibly irritated Obama summoned Boehner and three other top congressional leaders from both parties to convene Saturday and try again to find a way to raise the debt limit before an Aug. 2 deadline cuts off the government’s borrowing authority.
The president was flanked at the bargaining table by Boehner and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada. Also at the table were Vice President Joe Biden, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and McConnell, R-Ky.

Posted on July 23, 2011 at 3:44pmAs usual, the Democrats are the best liars and manipulators, so it is the Republicans who are deemed to be the unreasonable ones.
Republicans just don’t know how to utilize psychological ploys to their advantage. They passed a bill in the House that was voted down in the Senate 51 to 46. They should continue harping on the fact that if just 3 Democrats voted with them in the Senate they would have had a bill on the president’s desk. Of course he wouldn’t sign it, but the blame would then be squarely on his shoulders.
And continuous elaboration on the fact 3 Democrats refused to vote for the bill is irrefutable proof the Democrats don’t want to end the debt crisis.
The Republican strategy should be along those lines of attack, plus they need to continuously harp on the fact they offerred several times to extend the deadline to avoid default, but the community organizer refused.
Republicans just don’t know how to conduct effective guerilla warfare.

Posted on July 23, 2011 at 3:52pmDon‘t be too quick to think Boehner’s a “hero” here. Just like BHO unwittingly admitted to Cantor that he’s bluffing, Boehner unwittingly admitted to Jonathon Karl [abc] that he had already Caved. BHO just wanted Boehner to Cave more. In Boehner’s own words:
“There was an agreement with the White House at $800 billion in revenue [AKA TAXES]. It’s the president who walked away from his agreement and demanded more money at the last minute.”
The spineless speaker had already thrown We The American People under the BHO bus. BHO just got greedier than how far Boehner was willing to throw America under the wheels. It‘s like Boehner was willing to let America get run over by three wheels of BHO’s bus and BHO wanted the fourth wheel too.

Shame on our leaders for the ruse they are selling to the public. We have enough money to pay our debt obligations and social security payments and a whole host of other federal expenses, but certainly not all. What most people don’t know is that if we raise our debt limit and do nothing about spending, Moody’s will down grade our credit rating. We must tackle the root of the problem which is government spending. If the GOP doesn’t stand hard and fast to that mantra, we will loose this nation. The Democrats don’t have a clue.

Posted on July 23, 2011 at 7:38pmJudging by the way the Republicans have played their hand in these debt talks, I have no doubt that Obama will, with the help of the corrupt media, win the argumnet.
Trump may or may not be presidential material, but he sure is right about this amateur hour stuff from Boehner, McConnell and Cantor.
Republicans are negotiating with themselves– there is no Demorat plan, no Demorat budget, no Demorat anything– except a teleprompter and a bucket of lies. Watching Boehner traipse over to the White House to then get scolded about not compromising; to be lectured to about being unreasonable; to be scorned for not working to save America from this crisis– the crisis that was created by Obama and the Demorats– this is just more than I can take.
And this idiocy from McConnell, oh my gawd… to suggest that plan B might be abdicating all responsibility by allowing Obama to do as he wishes with the debt ceiling, or to even go anywhere near such an idiotic idea– It is hard to believe the Republicans are ever going to learn how to negotiate.
Boehner: Stay away from the White House. There is no more negotiating to be done. You have presented and passed your plan in the House. Now, it is up to the Senate and Obama to present their plan. It is not up to Republicans to come up with another idea. And McConnell should be locked in a closet.

This situation shows how progressives try to manipulate the truth and keep moving forward on a radical agenda against the will of the people. (Why would you raise taxes on an already weak economy???) Remember, Obama wants everyone to think he is working on a plan to restore America, when his real intentions are quite the opposite. In his mind he is a success because of the devastation hes caused which lines up with the wishes of George Soros and the Communists to remake America into a European or a 3rd world country…. If allowed to he will collapse the dollar and continue to spend until we cannot maintain services, police forces, or other businesses to do with transportation.
