White House Denies Report of Major Troop Withdrawal from Iraq

POLITICO reports that the White House is denying a Fox News story that ran this afternoon reporting that the president was preparing to announce a major troops withdrawal from Iraq.

“Asked whether the report was accurate, White House press secretary Jay Carney responded at his press briefing Tuesday afternoon with a flat ‘no.’

‘We want a normal, productive, healthy relationship with Iraq,’ he said. ‘If the Iraqi government makes a request of us, we will certainly consider it.

But for the time being, Carney added, the two countries are continuing to operate “under existing agreements.”

Earlier today the Blaze relayed the Fox News report that the number of U.S. troops in Iraq would decline to only 3,000 by the end of the year.

Under a 2008 security agreement between Washington and Baghdad, all U.S. troops are slated to leave by Dec. 31, 2011. However, Continued instability and fear of growing Iranian influence in Iraq has prompted some Iraqi and U.S. officials to reconsider the deadline.

The U.S. has stressed repeatedly that Iraq must formally request the American military to stay longer and describe specifically what type of role they would like the American military to play if the deadline is to be extended.

    When Israel gets attacked by the Muslims, there will not be any US Troops to help protect them. That is what this is about. Our Muslim, Anti Christ, Marxist, narcissist POTUS does not give a …. about our troops. He just wants to wear them down………..

    well I think it would be fair to say that if this white house says no it means yes or maybe or something other… the only real thing about this admin is that they never fail at lying .. so if they say no it means yes 9 times out of ten.. they are liars one and all.. they have to.. it’s the only way they can keep a paycheck coming in..

      damn it people……we all have kids who are and have joined and who have lost their lives….damn it we need to demand that this administration KNOWS what the hell they are doing……we can’t just sit and blog anymore……….we need (for our military lives) to take a stand and tell them, “No more blubbering”! WE HAVE ALL LOST FATHERS, BROTHERS, & HUSBANDS……..to other wars, but this is the first time that we had a group of inexperienced ‘nobodies’ in control………I am wondering where the weirdo group is that (not real Baptists but claimed to be) used to protest…..they are gone off the landscape for this admin……they were out there during the last admin……hmmmmmm

    Um, do any of you remember 2 years ago the administration would leak stories to Fox and FOX would run with them…the ones that were untrue and engineered to make Fox look bad, i.e. undermine their credibility. One in particular got BillO’ right in the credibility face.

      bill oreilly, like d miller, is a fence sitter…..now all WESTERN AMERICANS…..who have sat on a real fence know your ‘balls’ get numb after sitting there too long…..you may not fall off (but eventually you will) but eventually you can’t think straight…..so you blubber for both sides and hope when you fall that somebody gives you mercy (depending on which side you finally fall on….saying ‘but I spoke for you’)……but when you are luke warm (uhh that means you can’t take a real stand in your heart or soul) you get spewed out! & then who wants to be spit?

    Obama needs votes so he will be giving his base everything they want in the next year. He’s already working around Congress to give amnesty to illegals, he let Hoffa talk about taking out citizens, he gave his buddies billions last year, and is now wanting more stimulus, if they want the soldiers home he’ll work on that too. There are people in this nation who want Israel destroyed too, and Obama is trying to get that arranged also. If any of you think we can beat this monster and his demons by simply taking ourselves to the voting places next year, you need to wake up and realize that there are people in Obama’s camp who will kill for him. We need to walk the neighborhoods next year and take someone else to vote with us, all we can get there. It is a fight for the soul of this country. The laziest group will lose, don’t doubt it. If you are too old or unfit to get out and round people up, put some money in the pot to help those who can do the walking and talking. The best thing we can all do is pray to God to help us.

      You CAN’T WIN, withpoliticians in decision making positions! Iraq and Afganistan have dione exactly what they meant to do. Bleed the country, split the population, accomplish No permanent objectives, wear the public (Not to mention the warriors), allow a unknown, unvetted, inexperienced, politician of questionable alliegence to take the presidency. The troops will come home, the area will be open fare for the jackals- why? Israel! One little country, being attacked from the inside as well. Not an ally within thousands of miles, and its one ex-true friend has an administration that has all but stood up and said to the Arabs-”Take the SOBs out!”

    umm…“the two countries are continuing to operate under existing agreements” … “under a 2008 security agreement … troops are slated to leave by Dcember 21, 2011″ … so…the existing agreement is to leave by end of year…that’s what Carney is saying. They were probably justfloating the “major announcement” to see if it would give BO’s poll numbers a bump if he added it to his speech to congress- and it won’t so …no announcement.

    PLEASE READ:

    We cannot withdraw from the Middle East, leave it to Iran, abandon Israel, and think that, if we just don’t bother anybody, tey won’t bother us. That is ludicrous. It is naivete at its most dangerous. They will come after us no matter what we do or don’t do and the weaker we appear, the sooner they will come.

    There are eternal truths, right and wrong, good and evil. While we can’t be everywhere, we should be in those places where we can make a strategic stand in stopping the evil and spreading liberty. “The soul yearns to be free (Albert Einstein).” Israel is the rock of liberty over there. We need to do our level best in Iraq and Afghanistan and hold Iran at bay.

    Standing on the sidelines and watching innocent peoples and nations be slaughtered when you can do something on the side of good is abetting evil by your inaction. We will be judged by our choices. If we stand idle and Israel is destroyed are we any better than Pontius Pilate absolving himself by “washing his hands” of the judgment to cruc

      I guess Obama is going to start removing troops a little at a time from Iraq, to see just how few American soldiers will be required, to give his Muslim terrorist buddies a chance to win…..

      I have to say though, it must be a quandry for Obama when considering what to do with our troops…..leave them there and piss off his left-wing buddies that are crucial to him getting re-elected, or bring them all home, and know that there will then be thousands upon thousands of additional patriotic Americans here with experience killing radical Muslim terrorists……just like him.

      Huh. I really like a lot of what Paul has to say, but it’s the craziness in this video that worries me about him. While I agree with his views on the Patriot Act, some of the things he says in this video are just plain ridiculous!

    In the year 401BC, one Iraqi decided to kill his powerful brother and take his stuff, so he hired Ten Thousand Westerners to do his dirty work. Well these Westerners did their job and routed the Iraqis with a total casualty count of one wounded.

    The crazy-angry Iraqi brother however charged his brother’s bodyguard, who killed him, so the Western forces had nothing to fight for any more. Many of the Western leaders were naïve about the nature of Iraqis and offered to go to a negotiation meeting, where the Iraqis detained them and cut off their heads. The rest of the Westerners, having learned lessons regarding the trustworthiness of Iraqis were able to travel relatively unmolested back to their homelands successfully engaging the numerically-superior Iraqi forces whenever challenged.

    Nothing really has changed 2500 years later other than the fact that our idiot leaders believe we can change the nature of the Iraqi people by giving them candy and building them hospitals. You see, once we expose these Iraqis to the brilliance of the teachings of Yale, Harvard, and Columbia, the tribes of Iraq will all of a sudden turn into Indiana farmers. They might even put up Hillary Clinton posters in their dorm-rooms. It will be just like the movie Hoosiers!

    This is how smart our Ivy League-trained leaders are. We just might have to stay another couple of years (more).

      Several sights in the UK online news have confirmed the withdrawl as well; so if the admin is leaking news out, then they are setting something or someone up in the process. This looks to be one more mass fiasco and excuse to attack the right wing news groups and sights intentionally.

      How else are all the HUGE corporations that have military contracts with our government going to make profits for their shareholders ? Is it possible that the global elite; constituents to our “politicians”, and the Military / Industrial Complex’s vast quantity of corporations and banks, have some inside info on the Stock market?
