‘Fairness’: Labor Sec Says ‘Millionaires & Billionaires‘ Have an ’Obligation’ To Pay More Taxes

Labor Secretary Hilda Solis:Millionaires & Billionaires Have Obligation To Pay More TaxesSpeaking at Al Sharpton’s annual convention of the National Action Network in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis told her audience that “millionaires and billionaires” have “an obligation” to pay more in taxes.

“It’s about fairness,” Secretary Solis said while explaining President Obama’s re-election platform.“It’s about fairness in the workplace; it’s about fairness in education; and it’s about fairness in terms of what services are provided by government. And if we can’t have say-so in that, then this isn’t the dream that all of us have aspired to be a part of.”

“If people aren’t paying their taxes, those that can afford it, the billionaires and millionaires — even the folks as you’ve heard yesterday that were in the White House that agreed to pay more. They want to pay more because they know it’s their obligation!” she added:

Solis spoke of her own experiences growing up as a first generation American and said that her parents were “seeking the American dream for their children.” She touted Labor Department programs that help veterans, minority women, and the long-term unemployed while criticizing Republicans for wanting to reduce the safety net.

She also spoke about President Obama’s policies, saying that they’re intended to help everyone.

“And I know how our economy can come back and I realize that all of us have our own way of making a difference in this country. And I know that the president believes that,” she said.

“That’s why he’s putting forward an agenda that says he wants to see an America, an America that helps every single one of us. Not those that are privileged, not those that can afford fancy lawyers and lobbyists but people, everyday people.”

“An America, as he says it, that is built to last for every single one of us and our children and our grandchildren,” she added.

The Labor Secretary continued:

President Obama has said that in the face of our challenges we’re going to have to answer a central question as a country: can we succeed as a country where a shrinking number of people do increasingly well while a growing number struggle to get by?

Or are we better off when everyone gets a fair shot and everyone does their fair share and everyone plays by the same rules?

That is what is at the heart of this national debate that the president has brought us into –and the other side of the aisle — because this is where we know we have to go. We have to have this discussion.

So I want to ask you if you’re going to help us march again. I want to ask you if you’re going to help us organize and I want to make sure that we’re accountable and that we are out there and that we not just fire ourselves up, you know, get excited, but I mean that we give it all that we got.

      Bottom line is Buffett wants higher taxes because his company sells more insurance with higher taxes. Higher tax rates me more money for Buffett. Go figure.

      They do NOT have an obligation to pay more in taxes. People have an obligation to provide for their own families. Only those truly unable to work should be helped. There are so many in the Obama administration that are pushing us to Socialism/Marxism. When are Americans going to wake up? There are probably 50% of Americans that just do not see the forest for the trees.

The tax is already progressive and has been for many years, the idea that successful people need to pay more so we can fund new ‘give away programs’ is totally ridiculous.       People who work for a living, either through luck or hard work should not have to pay for their success.\
      I have nothing to speak of, but I was frugal all my life and it pizzes me off that I have to pay taxes on money I’ve saved for myself instead of drinking, smoking, chasing wild men, blowing every dime on unnecessary things. This is my dam money and I shouldn’t have to pay on any gain I get anymore than rich people should have to pay more. You get what you put in, not more, not less and it belongs to no one else. get it?

      I agree that EVERYONE should pay their fair share. And the current tax code is not fair. How is someone paying 35% of their income and others paying 22, 18,or 0% fair? Not all rich folks, like Romney, have the wherewithall to lower their effective tax rate to 17%. So, let’s make it fair. Everyone pays 15% PERIOD, no deductions, no write offs. And if you want to complain about those below the poverty line, give them a break, but no one else!!!!!

      15% of $50,000.00 = $7,500.00
      15% of $100,000.00 = $15,000.00
      15% of $1,000,000.00 = $150,00.00

      The person making $1,000,000.00 is paying $142,500.00 more than the person making $50,000.00. That does not sound fair to the millionaire, but they are both paying the same percentage of their incomes.

      FAIR is FAIR. DO NOT INCREASE TAXES ON THE RICH. THAT IS NOT FAIR. They are paying most of the tax burden. Simple math. You RAISE the taxes on the RICH folks need to go back to grammar school and retake basic math…….

      Actually, now, taxes on the millionairs and billionaires are lower now than they were under President Reagan, who was not a communist as far as I can tell. Bush’s temporary tax breaks were temporary because the were supposed to stimulate the economy and create jobs, then expire once the economy rebounded from the tax cuts. They were temporary.

      Bush did a real world experiment. He dramatically cut taxes, not once, but twice for the richest Americans, based on the hypothesis (and Republican dogma), that lower taxes stimulate the economy. And we know the consequence of the tax cuts don’t we? No stimulation of the economy, no stimulation of job growth. And of course we all know what happened next: economic collapse a year before Bush left office.

      The temporary tax cuts Bush did nothing to help anyone except make the rich richer – they didn’t help you or me a bit, not jobs, nothin’. And now, if you want Bush’s temporary tax cuts to expire, you’re a Marxist, wealth-redistributing communist, even though taxes are now far lower than under Reagan.

      You know, that’s what the millionairs and billionairs want you to believe (except Gates, Buffett and so on). I‘m surprised you’re buying it to be honest.

      How do you propose that liberals go about making the case that the poorest workers among us in the 10% bracket should receive a 50% increase to an effective rate of 15% and raising the 25% brackets to 28% and the 28% bracket to 31%?

      These super wealthy people are getting out of paying taxes by donating to each others charity organizations. What do these organaizations do? Provide free business consultations and research for each other’s companies. So they are basically giving there money to each to do research for each other and only about 35% of the money donated ever used to help anyone that really needs their assistants. The other 65% is used to pay for the people who do the research. It’s just a ponzi scheme for the super rich. They keep moving the money and never pay taxes on it. All the while they continue to benefit from the research and move the money from one non profit to another. Paying the Board members extreme salaries, most of which are friends and family members.

      What are the obligation of those that leech up every tax dollars funded program at warp speed.?
      We keep here about millionaires and billionaires….they are the ones paying for programs THEY’LL NEVER EVER USE. And that’s on top of the jobs they create,the industries they support through purchasing power.
      What effing obligations does the welfare mother having children every other year to stay on the government check program have. Or the heroin dealer that using his welfare card to post bail what’s his effing obligation.
      Want to cut government cost and clean up areas here’s an idea everyone on welfare has to do 25 hours a week in community service,pass drugs test, and prove they are looking for employment to get dime one.
      If a woman get pregnant once and has to go on government assistance it‘s her obligation not to have another child she can’t afford after that.
      Obama nad his numbnut patrol need to start teaching responsibilities and obligation to the irresponsible before attacking those who are actually doing something.

      Hows this for “fairness”, I want all of the sandbagging slack @$$ sponges out there to put in the same effort as those who are wealthy or at least gainfully employed and busting their butts to get ahead. As a business owner, I would like to see these people who supposedly are entitled to my fair share start their day when I get started and end their day when I finish. Take a vacation if lucky every 3 – 5 years.

      You want fairness, fine, get up and put in your fair share of effort.

      And the government doesn’t provide “services” Hilda you ignorant turd. When you deliver a service you are compensated by the recipient for your service/labor. The government provides hand outs. Plain and simple. They take from productive citizens and GIVE to the unproductive class in our society who may or may not be legal citizens.

      People like her make me want to vomit. Feeding the fire of the entitlement class. Let‘s start doing this with college grades and credits at the ivy league schools where their breeding this type of idiocy and see how well it’s received.

    I’m curious, how are those in the “safety net”, like her parents were, paying their “fair share”? Seems that over 50% of the country pays nothing, yet receives the bulk of “government services”. How is that “fair” to the taxpayer?

      Totally agree. Every American should be paying something regardless of income. I believe a dollar a day at least per American yes even children. Too many are receiving so much without sacrificing anything. I am tired of paying so much in taxes and not being eligible for the benefits that I am paying for.

    First time around it was all about “Hope and Change” which he NEVER defined… letting every person naturally assume the best.

    This time around it’s all about “fairness” which he will NEVER define…. letting every person naturally assume the best. You can’t fault him for using the same basic strategy that got him elected the first time.

    And not one reporter pushes him to actually define what percentage is fair. We already have one of the most progressive tax systems among democratic nations… what’s does Obama consider a fair tax for millionaires and billionaires? How much of a dent would that make in the deficit? (The answer is not very much EVEN if you pushed the tax rate to 100% for this group.) NOW…. lets talk about something important and address how he plans to fund the rest of his budget.

    WHAT?!?!?!?! He doesn’t have a plan!?!?!?!?!? (They don‘t have one but they CERTAINLY don’t like Paul Ryan’s!!!)

    If the American people elect this man to office again then I’ll contend that we deserve the coming financial collapse that he is hastening. Perhaps hitting rock bottom will make people realize that, yes, even the federal government must balance it’s checkbook.

    I think we should all pay in cash for everything, barter with gold or other assets. Not 1099 each other acting as the tax collectors snitch. It is time to quit talking and start doing something. The less tax sent to be wasted well then the less wasted. Avoid as many taxes as possible and you will get smaller gov. Oh but that will “cost” the gov revenues….NO it will save me from employing another parasite that needs to be fed month after month. Get a collectors vehicle. Cut off your TV service and only keep internet service. Pay all service people in cash. They will give you a big cash discount:) Act like capitalist and free people and quit taking the revenuers crap.

      Now I get it! I keep asking myself what is Buffet’s lieing about his taxes. Because everyone knows if they change the capital gains taxes, he will pull his investments and switch them to less lucrative, but less taxed investments. So what’s his game?
