White House Responds to Blaze Video About MSNBC Host’s Departure

Earlier today, we posted a simple little video that asked an interesting question: “Is the the White House programming a news channel?”

That seems like a provocative question, and it is. And some have wondered why we asked it. Why? Because a now-former MSNBC host suggested it in a resignation video posted on YouTube. Of course we’re going to do a story on that! And now it seems to have captured the attention of the White House.

Let me explain.

Last night, Cenk Uygur (don’t ask me how to pronounce that), who has hosted the 6 pm ET time slot on MSNBC since the beginning of the year, gave a detailed account of why he has decided to leave the network, and why the network decided to remove him from that slot. His explanation included some interesting allegations. According to him, the head of MSNBC (he’s presumably referring to Phil Griffin) met with Cenk and told him that he met with people “in Washington” and they didn‘t like Cenk’s “tone.”

Interesting. What did Cenk have to say about that? In his video, he seemed to connect some dots:

So why did I turn it down? Look, when they gave me the speech I thought, look they’re trying to rail- they’re trying to bring me in and, but they’re not. … [B]ut I don’t care, I’m not going to do that, there‘s no way I’m going to control the content of the show and tone it down so that people in Washington are happy. Not going to do it. I promised you guys, remember, before I went in to MSNBC, I promised the Young Turks audience that I would never do that, right? So, but at the time you’re thinking, are they really going to make a decision based on that? I don’t know, we’ll find out….

And why is it easy to have that conversation with me? … Remember, I am by far the most– the hardest on the Obama administration. It doesn‘t mean the other hosts aren’t hard on him at times when he deserves it, but I am clearly the hardest on the Obama administration.

It seems to be that Cenk is at least hinting at the possibility that part of his demotion was based on his criticism of Obama. And according to him, his boss had a conversation with people “in Washington” about it. In fact, since posting the video, Cenk has suggested that exact thing to the New York Times:

Mr. Uygur, who by most accounts was well liked within MSNBC, said in an interview that he turned down the new contract because he felt Mr. Griffin had been the recipient of political pressure. In April, he said, Mr. Griffin “called me into his office and said that he’d been talking to people in Washington, and that they did not like my tone.” He said he guessed Mr. Griffin was referring to White House officials, though he had no evidence for the assertion. He also said that Mr. Griffin said the channel was part of the “establishment,” and “that you need to act like it.”

That alone might be cause to ask the question we did. But wait, there’s more.

We also know that the White House has a history of complaining about the language used on networks, even on MSNBC. A few weeks ago, in fact, Jay Carney admitted to calling MSNBC to complain about Mark Halperin using the word “dick” to describe the president:

Additionally, Glenn Beck pointed out on radio today that the White House contacted Fox while he was there to complain about Beck‘s language and Fox’s decision to let Beck blast the White house:

And heck, even MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinki has admitted to getting messages from the White House while on air!

Earlier today, the White House responded to our video, and Cenk’s suggestion, to Tommy Christopher over at Mediate. Press Secretary Jay Carney said it was false to think that the White House had a hand in the departure of Cenk:

I have never expressed an opinion about Mr. Uygur to anyone at MSNBC. Nor has anyone in the White House communications office expressed concerns about his show with anyone at the network. We never had a problem with his show.

You know, there’s real news to cover out there, Tommy!

That’s to be expected (and we won’t even get into the fact that Carney only denies he or the White House communications office never contacted MSNBC). But, nevertheless, if that’s what the White House says, we must report it. And so we are. It’s also important to note that MSNBC has denied it, too.

So what does all this mean? Given everything, certainly it wasn’t an illogical question for us to ask earlier today. There’s a history, here. And we all know how Glenn feels about history.

Speaking of history: does anyone find it ironic that the White House could never find the time to respond to Glenn by calling “the red phone,” but a four-minute video montage gets the administration to talk?

      Hummm so apparently the White House does read the Blaze,that dosen’t surprise me, and if they read the Blaze then they know who we are that post a comment here,they know where we live and most likely know every little detail about us, Well i reckon that’s no real surprise to most of us on here,and I have stated several times i pray daily that Obama and his adminstration will be booted out of the White House and i still belive that,I stand firm in my Christian beliefs so firm in fact i am willing to die for what i believe in,God Bless America again, God Bless Israel, and God Bless all the people that have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

      One thing about it…if the Trolls are “watching” the radio show, that means they have to be GBTV “paying” members, so they are helping to pay for GBTV. I LOVE my GBTV, we “watch the radio show everyday at work”. We LOVE Stu and Pat and Glenn. They always give us a few laughs as well as some good lessons.

      I’m more and more happy each day when I see people in leftwing media saying enough is enough, sure they want to root for “their guy” but at the same time, these people know and understand that they want the freedom to report, opinionate, commentate… but they don’t want to be told how they should do their job by the government, nor do they want to become propaganda puppets. I wish this guy the best and he needs to keep it up, he’s a left leaning guy, but he’s honest enough to call out the WH on what it is doing wrong.

      I’m a Conservative and I constantly disagreed with GW during his 2 terms, I thought Afghan was fine, but we didn’t need to be in Iraq. I didn’t agree with him constantly giving into the Dem Congress with so many concessions in return for them to continue funding his wars, and I certainly did NOT agree with GW’s growing the the federal govt and his TARP and his $1,500 give away checks… that was very liberal for someone who was supposed to be a Republican. GW had many many good points, most importantly when he said something, he meant it and stuck to it and followed through, he wasn’t two-faced like our current President.

      Slimnranger.. God bless you for your post.. I have often wondered about who knows what about our post. My question is.. is The Blae giving them that information?? I would hope Glenn would not do that. my mother said, you better be careful what you say, and my response is I have freedom of speech, and by golly they want me, come and get me.. I am close to 60, in pain everyday.. really all they could do is put me out of my misery. Jesus is my King..and I will never forget what He did for me, for the world. Pity some were never given that message. What a shock they will get when he comes and it will be too late. God Bless

      Please forgive me for seeming petty and correcting word useage-spelling. I find it upsetting that adults make this mistake over and over. Here is an example of the proper spelling of these three words. It goes along with the meaning. 1. Please sit over there. 2. Their shoes got wet in the rain. 3. They’re late for work again.
      I see this so frequently that I had to point it out. Yes, I am a teacher but in a private school.
      As for the WH responding, I guess since an election is coming closer they are scared that Glenn and the Blaze as well as Fox News are going to be hammering away at the lies of Obama and friends. They know the voters are waking up.

But, our Lord jesus Christ told Pontius Pilot, the Roman Govenor of Palestine, “The truth shall set you free”.       Fair point. I’ll start with the headline. First, it is a lie that the White House responded to a Blaze video. Second, it is a lie that it was the Blaze’s video. The video looks like it was produced by The Young Turks. So, for my first pointer about how to be a better journalist, I would say the Blaze shouldn’t lie in its headlines. Second, I would say the Blaze should not take credit in its headlines for videos that do not belong to it and that the Blaze had no part in producing.

If Obama appears to be losing (and he is now) will he find an excuse to nix the election?       Have thought for some time the election would not happen. They got their in, advanced their agenda more rapidly and openly than expected. Now that so many of us are awake, does anybody honestly believe they will stop? Allow us to gain control and fix what they broke?       Amen…I truly believe that Glenn Beck is a true believer. He believes what he is preaching. What the libs have such a problem with is that he has figured them out. Why is it so unbelievable that someone outside the “mainstream liberals” can figure out their game plan. You know they are so after FOX NEWS…ONE news company out of all these others that are Libs…IF they limited the left side to only ONE site, like FOX is, maybe they would have more viewers and would be closer in viewer ratings to FOX, but they are way split up between MSNBC, CBS, CNN, NBC, ABC and a jillion others…we only have FOX and they are scared shi@@@$$ of us. I get it..but I am not sure that they do??? If they can prove Glenn wrong just ONE time, I believe he knows that it is OVER…and they have to make sure that everything they put out is a correct and unimpeachable as it can be. The White House sure never called that Red Phone did they??? Glenn said a LOT of things in 2 1/2 yrs that they could have challenged….IF they could have proved it wrong. We listen to Glenn, Pat and Stu at work everyday, and then RUSH, but some time ago, we found Rush to be so behind the times, that we actually go back and find things that Glenn has put out there, and listen to Rush on a limited basis…He is not nearly as entertaining anymore. Not nearly so current. You go GLENN…keep them on the run!

    The Administration doesn’t have any credibility with me. Democrats have gone to extreme lengths to demonize ordinary citizens (TEA Party) and various czars have stated that they believe government should regulate news, speech, “conspiracy theories”, etc. So, I tend to believe that Cenk was probably a victim of Democrat crony politics.

      Speaking of the Tea Party, have you noticed lately that Bill O’Reilly has started to really pound them into non-importance? (But then again, he fully supports them…) So which is it, who’s gotten to him, what invitations is he dying to receive, or maybe it’s awards? Why is FOX back-stepping toward the lefty line? It‘s getting where you can’t trust any media outlet, like Glenn says, do your own homework!

      I noticed Bill O’Reilly was hammering the TEA Party too. I got so angry about what he was saying, I was yelling at my TV! He may be getting marching orders, but I think with O‘Reilly it’s more about his own self serving interest. I think his concern is that the stock market will take a plunge, if the debt ceiling doesn’t get raised. Of course the TEA Party doesn’t want it raised, thus his motivation for going after them. That just my opinion……………………MSSMUG

      I believe Billy-Boy (among many others) suffers from “normalcy bias”.

      This causes Billy-Boy to prefer to believe the TEA Party and conservatives are somehow “radical”, as the alternative being true means the situation is far outside his mental & emotional comfort zone and his traditional beliefs regarding people and the countries‘ leadership based on the way he’s always experienced and viewed them.

      you have just hit a particularly venomous and wildly true nail on the head. I have more than a few friends that have a particularly staunch normalcy bias, and I pray to the Gods that they are right, but my analysis skills say otherwise. This Sierra-Hotel-India-Tango material will hit the fan and will get messy in record time.

      If you live in a city and SHTF, the rule of thumb is you have three days to get the hell out of dodge. I recommend no more than 12 hours from SHTF to evac. If you have relatives out in the country, go there and hunker down when the brown stuff starts being redistributed.

      Hey Lady, I hope you are right … but with as much corruption as is in THIS administration, I wouldn’t count my chickens till they hatch. The Black Panthers, Acorn, the Chicago machine, George Soros, etc have spread all over this country. Look at what happened in Nevada with Harry Reid. He got beat, but he still won. The only reason the the right was able to win the house is that they didn’t have all their people in place last year.     Did you hear they want to build a Chinese City near Boise Idaho. About 15 million Chinese people would live there and run it They would have there own laws etc. But would not pay taxes. They do get to be US citizens though. I hop Glenn will check into this story for me. Thanks
