White House Responds to Rep. King’s Radical Islam Hearings

WASHINGTON (AP/THE BLAZE) — The White House is pushing a message of religious tolerance ahead of this week’s congressional hearing on Islamic radicalism, which has sparked protests on grounds it unfairly singles out Muslims as potential terrorists.

President Barack Obama sent his deputy national security adviser, Denis McDonough, on Sunday to a Washington-area mosque known for its cooperation with the FBI and its rejection of the al-Qaida brand of Islam.
White House Responds to Rep. Kings Radical Islam Hearings

“Being religious is never un-American. Being religious is quintessentially American,” McDonough said.

The speech came just four days before the congressional hearing, which has already given rise to protests on grounds it is unfairly targeting Muslims. In New York’s Times Square on Sunday, about 300 people gathered to speak out against the planned congressional hearing, criticizing it as xenophobic and saying that singling out Muslims, rather than extremists, is unfair and divides the nation.

Speaking to an interfaith forum of Muslims, Christians, Jews and other faiths, McDonough, the president’s point-man on countering violent extremism, was clear: “We’re all Americans.”

The majority of the recent terror plots and attempts against the U.S. have involved people espousing a radical and violent view of Islam, making it difficult to ignore the role religion plays in this particular threat. But focusing too closely on Islam and the religious motives of these attempted terror attacks also threatens to alienate an entire community that has nothing to do with these violent beliefs.

New York Republican Peter King, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee that is holding the hearings, thinks the Muslim community can and should do more to help law enforcement thwart these attacks.

“I don’t believe there is sufficient cooperation” by American Muslims with law enforcement, King said Sunday on CNN. “Certainly my dealings with the police in New York and FBI and others say they do not believe they get the same – they do not give the level of cooperation that they need.”

Two of the witnesses scheduled to testify Thursday are relatives of men who were radicalized and turned to terrorism. One is the uncle of a Somali man from Minneapolis – Burhan Hassan – who left the country in December 2008 to join a terror group in Somalia. The family believes Hassan was killed and buried in Somalia.

Another witness is the father of Carlos Bledsoe, who prosecutors say shot and killed a soldier at a military recruiting center in Arkansas in 2009. Bledsoe grew up in the Memphis, Tenn., area, converted to Islam and changed his name to Abdulhakim Muhammad.

McDonough said Muslim Americans are not the problem, but part of the solution.

“No community can be expected to meet a challenge as complex as this alone,” McDonough said. “No one community can be expected to become experts in terrorist organizations, how they are evolving, how they are using new tools and technology to reach our young people.”

The Muslim community has been integral in tipping off law enforcement in many of the plots uncovered over the past two years. In 2009, the Muslim community came forward when they learned five Northern Virginia men had traveled to Pakistan with the hopes of joining a terrorist organization.

McDonough said agencies throughout the Obama administration would continue working to understand the process of radicalization. He also promised further outreach to Islamic communities in the United States, as well as efforts to dispel “misperceptions about our fellow Americans who are Muslim.”

King’s critics, including the first Muslim elected to Congress, Minnesota Democrat Keith Ellison, say it is wrong to single out a religion.

“We’re concerned about the breadth of this,” Ellison said on CNN Sunday. “To say we’re going to investigate … a religious minority, and a particular one, I think is the wrong course of action to take.”

Thought 9/11 was the tipping point for real change and to strengthen our resolve to preserve our Republic. Instead we have traveled down an even darker path to be where we are today. Terrorism is our single biggest problem despite al the other seemingly insurmountable problems we face. Hopefully it is not too late. We are NOT supposed to be a democracy. God save our Republic.

A broken federal government, progressives coming out of the shadow and a president who wants to fundamentally transform our constitutional republic are larger and more immediate problems than radical Islamic terrorists. In fact, radical Islamic terrorist and progressives would be less of an issue if we would fix the federal government (by reestablishing limits and focus) and elect a president who embraces American exceptionalism, values the constitution as a charter of negative liberties and creates policies which overtly and positively impact our economy.

This administration is weak. The last few attacks or attempted attacks have been from radicalized muslims within this country. The investigation is warranted. Also without any control on our borders I am under no illusions that terrorists are coming into this country. I always felt this country would disintegrate from within. With God being thrown out of schools, government and everywhere else and our continued pressure on Israel to give land for peace it‘s no wonder we’re in the shape we’re in. God controls and/or allows which leaders govern a country and as Rev. Wright says Americas Chickens have Come Home To Roost. But I mean it in another way we have the puppet president we have probably by God’s will. UNFORTUNATELY!!!! I did not vote for this man and feel very uneasy and unsafe having him and his PC administration in power. A gangster government as Michelle Bachmann called them. As far as Islam goes if their “book” says it’s ok to lie to advance their cause, etc. Then I would be cautious of all of them, and an investigation needs to take place.

If you want separation from the radicals,we expect the denouncement of radical Islam.Failure to do so shows there is no separation.

KITHMAN, is the command for Shi’a Muslims to conceal their religious beliefs from non-Shia’s. Kithman is a special variety of Lying .

This practice, along with the practice of TAQIYYA, were, and are many places today, a method of self-preservation for the Shi’a community. Historically, the Shiites have been in the minority and have been persecuted by Sunni Muslims who considered them heretics.

Traditions from the sixth Shia Imam firmly established this practice:

      Imam Jafar Sadiq (R) said:

“One, who exposes something from our religion is like one who intentionally kills us.” (Ft. #1 Usool al Kafi, p.88)
“You belong to a religion that whosoever conceals it, Allah will honour him and whosoever reveals it, Allah will disgrace him.” (Ft. #2, Ibid, p.522). Thia has nothing to do with “Lying to the infidels”. When people are paranoid, they easily accept falsehoods spoken by others.

Yes, we know not all muslims have that label, however, America has had an unusual outpouring of the type of muslims that have a different “religiion”. Their religion is to force their shariha law on our soil; kill the “infidels” (America and the west); and plan Day of Rage protests. IF THEY DO NOT LIKE THE WAY AMERICANS LIVE, SPEAK, OR THINK….THEY CAN GO BACK TO WHERE EVER THEY CAME FROM. Back it up. Where in the Koran does it say this? For example, one verse (in its snipped version) reads: “slay them wherever you catch them” (Qur’an 2:191). But who is this referring to? Who are “they” that this verse discusses? The preceding and following verses give the correct context:
“Fight in the cause of God those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for God loves not transgressors. And slay them wherever you catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter… But if they cease, God is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful… If they cease, let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression” (2:190-193). exrepub. You must also know that the Quran is an odd book. Its easy to find peace and love text, however if it is contradicted by any later writings of Mohammed, then it is to be ignored. The Quran makes knowing which text to ignore difficult as well, since it is not arranged chronologically.

The Quron has two distinct perspectives, that of Muhommed when he was in Medina and when he was in Mecca. In one he was in a town that embraced multiculturalism and his ‘teachings’ therefor embraced that. Later, after relocatin he ended up becoming basically a warlord, and the teachings of that period in his life relect that, and in essence, dismiss all of his earlier teachings.

No one is going to back off the criticism of Islam b/c NONE of their Imams/ high leadership have “crossed the line” and spoken out against the radicals. Once in a while you will have a guest on radio or tv who is of the muslim faith denouncing the actions of radicals but for the most part the muslim community is silent.

Some will argue/ conclude they are silent out of fear. This in itself justifies hearings into the radicalism that they are so dangerous and out of control those within the ranks who disagree with the radical fanatics can’t even speak out. OR They are silent b/c they approve of the actions from those deemed radical! Im sorry but those are the only 2 conclusions one can come to on this issue. People can go back and forth and argue till their faces are blue but facts are facts and for the most part the majority of those within the muslim faith are silent.

Any other religion you would see leaders or those in high positions within the clergy speak out. Islam this does not happen. So we will watch a tennis match on whether this should or shouldn’t happen instead of asking why the community is so silent. If need be challenging leaders to step forward and once and for all condemn the actions of the radical fanatics.

For those who agree with them, let them be offended, let them be outraged, let them show themselves for what they are. For the secular Muslim, please seek the light, the way, seek our Lord Christ and be saved.

These hearings are much overdue and the Muslim community has had many years to break their silence and through word and deed prove which side of the fence they are on. Instead many are supporting the terrorist, secretly cheering them on or sitting on the fence. Very few have actually came out and condemned these terrorists in the Muslim community so the hearings are very appropriate and with the times we are living in need to go even further.

Either you couple-dozen shut-ins that spend every waking moment on The Blaze are the only handful of truly enlightened, knowledgeable people in America, or a small, sad group of gullible, socially dysfunctional rubes who are completely under the spell of Panic (and gold, of course) selling Pitchman. Which do you think is more likely? (Does “Occam’s razor” ring a bell? Probably not)

      *************************,

When will you looney’s stop trotting out that John Adams quote? It is so obviously and transparently taken out of context. Even if one had not seen the original letter to Jefferson, the placement of the ellipses should raise some alarm bells. Go look at the whole letter and you’ll see how fake that quote actually is.

Only if they have something to hide and are terrorists!!!! What are you trying to hide???

If attacks on the U.S. was being done by radical Christians and a hearing was conducted to collect information on that group, would that, too, single out the Christians???? No, I think not and yes we would investigate such.

Like I said,,,,only if you have something to hide will you say that such a HEARING is wrong.

This has nothing to do with the lack of religious tolerance, it has to do with a group targeting another group after planning and executing their demise. It doesn’t matter if they are Islamic, Mexican cartel members, gang members, Christians or whomever. We need to find out how and why it is happening and put a stop to it. The NYC Imam can go pound sand in the Middle East and we need to move on with the hearings. I certainly hope he was not targeting American with his rhetoric.

If you can believe it, here is what the President has said about the Muslim religion, post 9-11:

•”Some of the comments that have been uttered about Islam do not reflect the sentiments of my government or the sentiments of most Americans. Islam, as practiced by the vast majority of people, is a peaceful religion, a religion that respects others. Ours is a country based upon tolerance and we welcome people of all faiths in America.”
Remarks by President George W. Bush in a statement to reporters during a meeting with U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan
      The Oval Office, Washington, DC
      November 13, 2002

Here is a whole host of Bush comments about the Muslim religion: http://www.muslimrepublicans.net/Article.asp?ID=164

In the World According to Beck, you should fear and hate Muslims, one quarter of the world’s population. You should hate and fear liberals and democrats and working people who work together to speak with a single voice. You should hate teachers and firefighters and police and anyone who is in a union. You should hate Europeans for their socialist policies and Russia and China for their “communist” policies although neither of those countries actually have a communist economic system, they are simply dictatorships. And you should hate almost all Jews, because, like Soros and Piven, the want to overthrow the government (although you’ll not hear a word on website about Rabbis calling Beck out for his antisemitic remarks).

In the World According to Beck, if you are a true Christian, you fear and hate basically everyone except Palin and Tea Party members.

Your idiocy is only exceeded by your lack of comprehension.
There has never been any inclination towards hating any of the list of people you have here. It has always been about understanding and resisting those that would deny us our God given freedoms. It has never been about “liberals, democrats or working people” but always about the 20th century Progressive agenda mindset that thinks they know what is best for us. It has never been about hating the “rank and file” union members but about the union management such as Trumpka,Stern, et al… It has been about educating yourself with information that has not been skewed by anyone even Glenn Beck. Once you learn what Progressives and Communists really want from you, if you are a “Free Man”, you would fight against it with every fiber of your being and do battle on the field of ideas. It isn‘t about any person or individual theology it’s about ideology. No one here hates the individual, they hate the ideology. By the way Soros and Piven DO want to destroy our form of Constitutional Republic and the Rabbis you refer to are members of a the Progressive “reformed” movement. Your belief that Rusia and China are not communist only serves to confirm my opening sentence.

And like the Honorable Rep from Florida has noted this Administration refuses to acknowledge the problem. The report on the Islamic Jihad at Ft.Hood did not even mention Islam, nor Islamic terrorism,
nor even Islam. And I apologize to Mr.West for such butchery of what he said so well. But dammit until our Government wakes up and says openly that ISLAM is the problem and not part of the solution
America– We’ve got a problem in Washington DC.There is NO place for Islam in America.

True but wanting to kill people because they’re Christian is surely Anti-American. Like I have posted before, when the Majority of Muslims publicly condemn acts of terrorism and speak out against it then we’ll have reason to dialog with them, until then. NO DICE.

fatpatriot – saying that “your idiocy is exceeded only by your lack of comprehension” is redundant. Nice try using the “this is exceeded only by that” construction, but you really don’t want to use synomyms there.

What “God given” rights are the liberals trying to take away. Can you give an example? And since the right is God given, can you tie the right to a biblical passage? Seriously, what God given rights have you lost? Or are about to lose?

I look at this and others stories in the media as smoke screens thrown up to keep people from looking at the real issues at hand, getting cuts to the budget, a limit on spending, and the removal or reversal of the health care con. The real issue at hand is to eliminate the appropriations that were hidden in the health care bill. To assume that the legislators didn’t know about this when they voted for the bill calls for a gullibility of epic proportions. I sincerely hope that Sean, Glenn, and Rush, (our only real voices in the media), don’t fall for the lefts attempted sidetracking of these vital issues. Let’s face facts, the American people were duped out of their children’s money by the socialist politicians and Obama by trickery included in the bill. Our three spokesmen need to be shouting from the roof tops how the Obama administration has snookered our citizens. Don’t address any of the smoke screen issues and pay attention to the slight of hand going on!

Nothing synonomous or redundant about idiocy and lack of comprehension. Check your dictionary again. Idiocy usually refers to a foolish remark therefore your remarks are idiotic hence the reference to idiocy. Comprehension is a capacity to understand. Lack of comprehension is manifested by someone hearing a truth and simply not understanding that truth. Whether you accept the “kool aid” as what is best or you refuse to believe the truth about Progressivism these are both symptoms of a lack of comprehension i.e comprehending facts in front of you. By the way “endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. Among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” If you cannot see the usurpation of our rights that are ongoing and you refuse to seek the truth of the effects, on your rights, of the actions of the Progressives in Congress and the Whitehouse then you deserve my description. You may believe yourself to be superior to others because of your apparent level of education but you aren’t. You are uninformed at least and deluded at worst.
