White House & State Dept. Call on Iran to Release Christian Pastor Condemned to Death

On Tuesday, The Blaze reported that Iran has likely issued an execution order for Iranian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, the Christian leader who has been under siege since his 2009 arrest on apostasy charges. Now, the White House and the State Department have stepped forward to call for Iranian leadership to release Nadarkhani. Additionally, the U.S. government has strongly condemned the Middle Eastern nation’s ongoing assault on religious freedom.

In a statement issued on Feb. 23, the White House chastised the pastor’s treatment, writing:
The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms reports that Iranian authorities’ reaffirmed a death sentence for Iranian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani for the sole reason of his refusal to recant his Christian faith.
The statement went on to call this purported action “yet another shocking breach of Iran’s international obligations, its own constitution, and stated religious values.” This commentary, while welcomed by advocates and institutions like the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) that have been working for Nadarkhani’s release, comes at a time when the Obama administration is being accused of infringing upon religious peoples’ rights here in America.

In its statement, the White House went on to say that the U.S. “stands in solidarity with Pastor Nadarkhani, his family, and all those who seek to practice their religion without fear of persecution—a fundamental and universal human right.”
Additionally, it specifically references the pastor’s trial and his ongoing battle with the Iranian government — a fight that could cost him his life. The proclamation continues, calling for the international community to also take a stand on the matter:
The United States calls upon the Iranian authorities to immediately lift the sentence, release Pastor Nadarkhani, and demonstrate a commitment to basic, universal human rights, including freedom of religion. The United States renews its calls for people of conscience and governments around the world to reach out to Iranian authorities and demand Pastor Nadarkhani’s immediate release.

Marc C. Toner, Deputy Spokesperson for the State Department issued a similar statement on Thursday as well:
The United States is deeply concerned by reports that a provincial court has renewed the execution order for Iranian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani. Mr. Nadarkhani is facing a death sentence on charges of apostasy and has refused to recant his Christian faith. Such government persecution for simply following one’s faith is common in Iran, where followers of many religious traditions face harsh treatment and severe violations of their religious freedom. We have also witnessed a dramatic increase in the arrest of adherents to the Baha’i Faith recently, as well as an increase in repression of freedom of expression in all forms. We stand with religious and political leaders from around the world in condemning Youcef Nadarkhani’s conviction and call for his immediate release.
The ACLJ, which quite often stands in opposition to the Obama administration on various religious freedom issues, applauded these comments. Additionally, the group also said that these statements reaffirm that this execution order could be carried out at any time. Thus, ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow mirrored the White House’s call for international action, saying, “It is absolutely critical that we continue to place international pressure on Iran for Pastor Youcef’s immediate and unconditional release.”

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 1:31pmDwight David Eisenhower was a Christian. He carried out the destruction of a democratic election in Iran. He placed the citizens of a sovereign nation under the foot of a tyrant. The Christian presidents who followed kept that unelected in power for 26 years. For 26 years Christian leaders punished a Muslim nation.
George Bush is an evangelical Christian. He invaded the sovereign nation of Iraq, a nation that did not threaten, and had no capacity to threaten, the United States. Bush did this under the guise of misinformation, called lies on the street. Iraq is a Muslim nation.
Do your own review of history in regards to Egypt. You will find the same Christian on Muslim oppression.

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 1:46pmTHE_JERK,
This is not “playing the religious card”- my comments address real religious persecution and the forced abandonment of God by our nation’s leaders. My comments to the president are for a return to Christian values. Whether or not Christians throughout history have shown the teachings of Christ in their words or actions is irrelevant. We are calling for a resurgence of Christian morals, which also embrace the belief that freedom of religion is what made this nation free. So we are not calling for forced conversion, but stand as one, defending our faith and the integrity of this nation, under God. We believe in the God given rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness- and that we need to return to our founding designed: to be one nation, under God.
Mr. President,
If you are going to really take a stand against Christian persecution, here is a website that is very educational regarding the persecuted church around the world.

Dwight David Eisenhower was a Christian. He carried out the destruction of a democratic election in Iran
While he may or may not have been a Christian he was referred to as a Swedish Jew in his yearbook. He did receive favoritism throughout his career.
Recall also that Eisenhower was responsible for “ Operation Keelhaul ” – where allied forces rounded over two million anti-Communists who escaped Stalin and tuned them over to Russian forces. Part of the Yalta Agreement between the Big Three — Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill — involved the repatriation of Russians to their respective homelands where they were either immediately executed or sent to die in the Gulag.
When you begin to look at the big picture it begins to make sense.
On a positive note he was the one that warned us to beware of the overreaches of the Military Industrial Complex.. Years ago it use to make me so mad for people to say this but now it‘s like why can’t everyone understand this… I use to only want to believe the best in everyone..

Dwight David Eisenhower was a Christian. He carried out the destruction of a democratic election in Iran
Furthermore, do you know that Eisenhower wrote an executive order suspending Geneva Convention rules forbidding the Red Cross to even visit German concentration camps after the War.. Allowing up to a million soldiers to perish?
Even the Nazis didn’t even suspend Red Cross visits to any of it camps at any time during the War.
I thought that you might find that interesting.. I doubt seriously the man was a Christian.
Something to consider when they are promoting the Holocaust industry is to ask them were the Red Cross in on it as well.. Were they are all anti-Semitic as well like the Nazis..

Read Luke chapter 15 to see how God deal with those who stray from the faith, Jesus came to reconcile us to God, forgive our sins, and bring the Spirit of God to indwell mankind so that we can have eternal life. He pursues the lost and embraces the found. He is the Good Shepherd (Ps 80:1, Is 40:11) who came to feed His sheep, as the Passover Lamb, as revealed when He was laid in a manger symbolizing as Bread of Life- to feed the sheep.
Read how God views prodigals in Luke, chapter 15. The good Father not only allowed the son demanding freedom to leave, but sent him off with the desires of his heart. Then, when the son found only pain and emptiness in the world and returned, the Father ran towards him, welcoming him back into the family. And the further one wanders from God, the deeper the gratitude for His forgiveness. God didn’t send servants after the son to kill him for his blindness (apostasy), He simply loved him. Christians treat apostates with love and prayers, standing ready to welcome them back into the Body of Christ, and continually reminding them that they are loved.
Please do not compare Christianity, which espouses freedom for all, and worships the God who established free will for Islam, which operates through threats, force and coercion.

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 1:43pmTexas, it’s not what Christians say. It’s what they do. And, as demonstrated, Christians are ‘not’ following the New Testament. They are hiding behind their religion to be aggressors and start wars. Christians are engaged in Old Testament, Pharisee-ism, the foundation of which is modern day Judaism.
Since you claim to read the Bible, read John Chapter 8. It is the New Testament and it is unequivocal, as it is Christ’s own words. You, like many, are more false prophet than follower of scripture… and we were forewarned.

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 2:05pmJerk,
You chose an excellent chapter in the NT to support our cause:
Regarding the persecuted church around the world, as well as the abandonment of God in our nation:
John 8:7 … “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” (When they were going to stone the woman for adultery)
John 8:31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” (not sure why this contradicts what I have been saying)
Most of the rest asserts the Deity of Christ. It also shows how people who don’t want to hear the truth are eager to kill those who speak it. But even when they wanted to kill Jesus Christ, He did not seek their blood, but encouraged them towards freedom. Not sure how this contradicts what I am saying either???

He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death. 17He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it. 26To him who overcomes and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations—

we only have the misery because we have come to places that we do not belong.
this world is come a long way from where it started there in that garden…
when we HAD relationship with our Creator…
all of this is the result of distancing ourselves further and further from Him and His Will for us.
I find it sad that some have no reference point from which to assess where they actually stand.
when that Good News is available, they run, cupping their ears –
afraid that in hearing and ultimately “knowing” those Words of Truth?
they would have to make a turn…
give something up that they wrongly understand as “important”….
Do not be deceived…
Our Creator is pouring out His Spirit upon His Creation….
Those that are moved will “hear” and come to realize.
Those that chose to ignore -
that elect to move away even a little further….
they will come to a suprising awakening.
How do you explain the immensity of this thing,
to those who are so consummed in the minutia of their limited understanding?
Father, do not hold back the outpouring of Your Truth upon this lost world….
