White Supremacist Running for Sheriff In Idaho…as a Republican

Shaun Winkler has held some horrifying, racially-charged allegiances. He has been an Aryan Nations member and Ku Klux Klan leader, and now Winkler wants to be the sheriff in a rural Idaho county near the Canadian border.

Winkler (left) during a local Aryan Nations parade (Image Credit: The Spokane-Review)
With power comes influence and with a tarnished background comes fear over what someone may do with his or her power and control. The white power activist is running as a Republican in the May 15 Bonner County primary to become the top law enforcement officer.
“I believe it’s about time that we have a strong law enforcement stance against certain criminals in our neighborhood,” Winkler said in an interview with KXLY-TV, a local television station. “It‘s not that I hate anybody who’s not white. Again I’m a white separatist. I believe there should be separation and segregation in every community.”
Here’s how Reuters describes his run for office:
The 33-year-old is running for sheriff in Bonner County, Idaho, despite his affiliation with the Aryan Nation and the Church of Jesus Christ-Christian. He calls himself a “concerned citizen,” and believes law enforcement isn’t doing enough to combat drugs and sex offenders. He also claims he won’t discriminate on the job. Whether or not voters will believe Shaun Winkler remains to be seen, but some question whether he should even be able to run for office. He’s an admitted white supremacist running for a law enforcement position. That’s got to be illegal, right? Wrong. There’s nothing illegal about a white supremacist sheriff candidate.
Winkler said despite the white supremacist beliefs he holds as a KKK imperial wizard, his brand of justice would be color blind. Considering the radical group he is associated with, embracing such a notion may be a tough pill to swallow for some locals.
As mentioned, he’s running on a platform that includes coming down hard on sex offenders and meth manufacturers, and reducing the impact of federal law enforcement at the county level.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 3:25pmWell, according to not-so-distant history… Try to disprove this:
Democrats supported slavery, Republicans ended it.
Democrats filibustered Equal Women voting rights act of 1919, Republicans voted for it.
Democrats filibustered Equal Civil Rights act of 1964, Republicans voted for it.
Abraham Lincoln was a Republican.
Martin Luther King was a Republican.
KKK Kleagle was a Democrat (late Senator Robert Byrd), as well as the majority of KKK members.
Are you asking why minorities vote 99% for Democrats today?
Democrat party changed their spots (or rather pretended to change their spots):
I’ll have them n*g**rs voting Democratic for 200 years. – Lyndon B. Johnson
And I am not even a Republican. I prefer Minarchism.

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 3:35pmAnother angle:
“I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend, to the death, your right to say it”. – Voltaire
Freedom of speech allows Black Panthers and Aryan Nation and LaRaza to speak freely, even if that speech offends others.
Of course, if they incite violence, they lose the right to free speech and must be sued and arrested.
Otherwise, there must be no limits to political free speech.

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 3:36pm- Nice revisionist history you got there….
I believe the point people will make is what has happened in th past 30 to 40 years since the implementation of Civil Rights legislation and you will see neither party has clean hands in this…Byrd was a member of the Klan who remained a Democrat..however his fellow klan members and openly racists politicians switched parties in droves…in fact, David Duke never got into office until he switched to the Republican party…so again, both parties can not say they own “racial equality”
However, i always find it funny when people say “Lincoln freed the slaves and he was Republican” or “Republicans pushed Civil Rights in the 60′s“ and my personal favorite ”King was a Republican” …I found that funny because when the move to declare King’s birthday a holiday, it was his “fellow Republicans” who wanted to block that from happening…Bottom line is, touting that 50 yrs ago, the Republicans were the Civil Rights party therefore they are that now is like saying back in the 50′s the Brooklyn Dodgers won the World Series, therefore the LA Dodgers are World Series Champs…its all about their record now, not 50 yrs ago…

I disagree. I believe one has a right to say racist, foul, offensive things if so one chooses to, however the militant Black Panthers have been advocating and soliciting murder (not only recently with Jorge Zimmerman) for a long time with no legal action taken against them; that is not “freedom of speech”. Furthermore, this knuckle-head in Idaho is carrying a swastika, hence he is affiliated with the NAZIs, a treasonous and seditious group seeking to over throw the Constitution and the Republic, again I do not believe either are covered by the 1st Ammendment.

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 3:54pmNazis stands for National Socialists. Socialists is translated into modern American as Democrats, National is translated into modern American as Republicans, which gives you Democrat-Republican Party.
Whatever, I prefer Minarchism.
Revisionist history??? Well, factually I am correct, am I not?
For 150 years, Democrat party stood for slavery (Civil war), racial segregation (Woodrow Wilson, Democrat), against women’s rights in 1919, against minority’s rights in 1960s (Lyndon Johnson)… Democrats together with trade unions stood against minorities (blacks, Chinese, Irish, Jews were forbidden to become Union members). “Buy Union Label” was written against Chinese immigrant workers who provided cheap workforce and drove down union wages…
Yes, some part of southern Democrats changed their party affiliation and infiltrated Republicans.
Whatever, I am not a Republican, I prefer Minarchism.

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 4:09pmStill another angle:
Political spectrum does not have a single “Left-Right” axis, it is a twisted multi-dimensional space (if you know math, it is like a multi-dimensional Klein bottle).
Unfortunately, there can be only 2 viable political parties, otherwise you will get some crazy unstable parliamentary chaos like Israel.
Just because somebody is a Democrat doesn’t make him “left” or “liberal” or “socialist”. Just because somebody is a Republican doesn’t make him “right” or “fascist” or “racist”.
There are racists in both parties. There are fascists in both parties. There are libertarians in both parties.

I think thats Sandpoint country. There used to be a nationally published cartoon in the newspapers called “Bonners Ferry” that was about the city of Bonners Ferry in Bonner county. There would probably be a LOT less minority crap going on up there if this guy gets in. Its called “conservatism” where you try to keep things the way they are, the way we have built God’s country to be for the last 200 years, and not allow a bunch of minorities to come in and “fundamentally remake” everything in their own jungle image. The Aryan compound in Hayden Lake Idaho is gone now I think. Last time I saw it was back in the early 1980′s. It was a nice forrested location for a compound on the edge of town. They had their own security forces that enforced their perimeter. One day some blacks got the idea to come into that all white region and go by and troll the Aryans out in front of their compound. Aryans responded and I don’t remember what happened for sure, but some black either died or got beat to death or almost to death, anyway the Southern Poverty Law Center or the Anti Defamation League or both took the case and won a judgement against Butler the owner of the Compound and basically forced him to sell out and move back east where he started another chapter of the Aryans all over again. So there might be a Secret Order of Aryans

There are plenty of Progressives like Winkler in the Republican Party. That’s the problem with the Republican Party. That’s why the Tea Party is trying to weed them out. Winkler is clearly a Nazi – National Socialist.
Obviously, Winkler has more in common with the other Socialists (Progressives, Communists, Lenninists, Marxists) in our country, regardless of their so-called political affiliation.

There’s bound to be one. Compare this to the long, long, long, loooooong history of Dems and white supremacy and deliberately terrorizing and opressing blacks throughout history, as recently as David Duke’s run for the 1988 Dem Presidential nomination
*****************
Which he lost since Dem’s and racists dont really share much in common. He switched parties in 1989 to Republican and won in Louisiana, proving that racists and the GOP have more in common than they would wiht the left. He has run other campaigns and lost but he is still a republican and is a big fan of the TEa party. No real shock since the tea party is full of racsits and is used by groups for recruiting.
By they way, your view of history is a bit off . Southern Democrats were racist but after ther civil rights act most of the Southern dems switched party and became republicans. So techincally they were dems but were welcomed wiht open arms by the GOP and goldwaters southern strategy

The rest of us will move forward with our lives and, together, make this the greatest country in which to live…again. Between the two extreme groups – both professing hatred – this country will remain at a standstill.
With the two groups and their hatred gone from this soil, the American people (no hyphenated groups, just Americans) will be going to baseball games, laughing, sharing, supporting each other, and thoroughly enjoying life. The only racial hatred in this country comes from individuals like Mr. Winkler and Rev. Sharpton. You both need to go to a land where you can find some happiness in your lives.

That is irrelevant, just because the “other” side is doing it doesn’t make it acceptable for “our” side to do it as well. The Democrats have always been the party of HATE, FEAR, and ENVY that doesn’t mean the rest of us have got to play that game too. When we get this Narcissist-in-Chief out of the White House, we need to take the idea of banning NAZI’s and Communists (and all their red-headed stepchildren) from the public square, with the penalty of imprisonment, back to the Supreme Court. The notion that treason and sedition is some sort of protected speech is insane, in my opinion. Advocating the destruction of the Constitution, the Republic, and the Nation should not be tolerated.

As usual you bring up the painful inconsistencies that modern Americans be the D or R will not face. Just what exactly is “horrifying” about this man’s positions? Louis Farrakhan and his Nation of Islam are never described that way, though they advocate far more drastic measures than segregation, as the man in the video does. As you say, La Raza, Lulac, CAIR, NAACP, New Black Panthers all advocate for certain groups, but white advocacy is somehow wrong?
If you are white, you should advocate what is best for whites, not worst. Americans should advocate what’s best for America, Europeans for Europe, Africans for Africa. And whites for whites. Stop the self hate.

Again, this argument “They’re doing it, why can’t we do it?” I do not support Affirmative Action, “Hate Crimes”, or any other PC nonsense, but just because La Raza, the Black Panthers, exists doesn‘t mean I’m gonna play their game. It’s hatred and inconsistent with my values, and the values of those who support the constitution, rule of law, EQUAL rights, or one who has Judeo-Christian values.
You want to advocate (private) scholarships for whites or males, that’s fine. Nothing wrong with that or similar measures, but when you start advocating segregation, genetic superiority, and that other craziness we’re gonna part ways. Because, the Democrats want to erect a PC/Nanny, pseudo-Fascist state, does not mean I want a Neo-Con flavored version.
I just want all of you meddlers, bigots (black, white, latino etc), busy-bodies, Progressives, Social-Cons/Neo-Cons, Fascists, Marxists, LUNATIC EXTREMISTS, to leave my community, my family, and myself alone. Posted on March 29, 2012 at 2:43pmThe story in question (presumably), if anyone is interested:
http://www.ajc.com/news/nation-world/white-supremacist-running-for-1401584.html
Other interesting information:
“But the area also has a history of radical and anti-government activism. The infamous Ruby Ridge standoff occurred about 20 miles north of here, and the Aryan Nations compound was about 30 miles south.”
“”Mr. Winkler does not in any way, shape or form represent Bonner County,” McAlister said. “We are not exclusionary.”
Bonner County, like much of the rest of the region, has a population that is overwhelmingly white — about 96 percent of the 40,000 residents.”
“”Of the Republican candidates, I have the most controversy, but also have more of the traditional Republican values of patriotism,” he said.”
Sounds like a loon who will lose in a landslide.

And I will reiterate… “has a Ron Paul sticker on his truck…”
He certainly attracts them.

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 4:23pmNo, I’d say there are loons everywhere. Santorum’s supporters shout for Obama to be shot. Romney’s supporters thank him for letting them arm against a tyrannical government. And Obama’s supporters? OWS… need I say more?
Every batch has its nuts. This guy is no more representative of the average Ron Paul supporter than he is of the average Republican.

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 4:35pmLOCKED. Yes… there are nuts, loons and the over zealous all around us from all stripes… but I’ll submit to you… TECHENGINEER… an (avid Ron Paul supporter) who is weighing in as we write here. A self professed David Duke supporter and a Jew hater extraordinaire. He’s not the exception within the Paul camp… not by a long shot. Ron Paul attracts these types and has pandered to them for years. But you go ahead and look the other way. Not me. I won’t tolerate racism, bigotry and anti-semitism from any direction.

Posted on March 30, 2012 at 10:42amNor do I. Techgineer and The_Jerk are the site’s anti-semites; Rangerp and Spankdamonkey are the site’s racists. We know the names by now. I think Ron Paul attracts a wider variety than any other GOP candidate simply because he’s different than the rest. Doesn’t mean he agrees with them; nor do they necessarily agree with all of his positions. Someone may love his reduction of government, but hate his stance on Israel, for example. Others may agree with him on needing to bring our troops home, but fear returning to the gold standard would cripple the economy.
So Ron Paul isn’t just there “as himself;” he’s there for all of those dissatisfied with the rest of the GOP but who still hate the Democrats even more.

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 2:27pmThere’s bound to be one. Compare this to the long, long, long, loooooong history of Dems and white supremacy and deliberately terrorizing and opressing blacks throughout history, as recently as David Duke’s run for the 1988 Dem Presidential nomination.

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 2:30pmOh yea, right…Obama is Muslim, Marxist, Kenyan, anti-colonialist, terrorist-loving, white-hating, Communist plotter who is the leader of a scheme to take down America, inciting race wars, declaring Martial Law and installing himself as dictator for life. Did I miss anything? That damn Obama…!

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 2:30pmI’ve been a republican for decades and I would not vote for this man no matter what. I also would not vote for anyone who was a member of the new black panthers. Racism is not the way to bring our country together. You are thinking just like the man you disagree with. Blamming a whole group of people for the actions of one.

Report Post »Byrd. Kennedy. Jackson Lee. Sharpton, Jackson, Obama, the other Rush… it seems the Dem party was already all full up with racists. This dude is sick, but since you guys have set the precedence, he must be allowed and hopefully the locals will make him a non issue- no offense.

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 2:32pm“There’s nothing illegal about a white supremacist sheriff candidate.” There is also no reason a black candidate who hates whites cannot run for office either….in fact congress is full of them. The congressional black caucus is one of the most racist and hate filled organization in the country. It is government sanctioned racism and bigotry and it is widely accepted. Most of these congress men and women are too cowardly to come out and say they are racist, just like you Lumbar Spine(less), are too cowardly to admit you share the same value system as the CBC. How sickening and vile must a person be who celebrates one race over another. An absolute perversion of what separates man from beast.

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 3:06pmLumbar: Names are labels which people give themselves. Duke calls himself a “Republican” but doubt that the official party would. And many today who call themselves ” Democrats,” with their anti- capitalism / pro union policies, would be more closely allied with yesterday’s Communist / Socialist/ Marxist political movements. JFK would be twirling..
