‘Whoa’: Can Your GMail Address Be ‘Harvested’ If You Are Logged Into Google?

Right now you are reading a story on The Blaze. I have no idea who you are and you probably like it that way. But what if had secret Managing Editor powers that allowed me to see your actual e-mail address whether you wanted me to or not?

You might consider that to be a “pretty big security hole.” The folks at TechCrunch sure do:

The creator of http://guntada.blogspot.com (don’t visit that site just yet) emailed us this morning to explain.

If you’re already logged in to any Google account (Gmail, etc.), and visit that site, he’s harvested your Google email. And proves it by emailing you immediately.

Michael Arrington includes a screen grab of the e-mail:

Whoa: Can Your GMail Address Be Harvested If You Are Logged Into Google?

Arrington has some theories on how this is being done.  Read it here. But the import is clear: “The ability to harvest emails from anyone already signed into Google, not to mention just see exactly who’s visiting the site, is extremely valuable.”

I think this is a lot about nothing. Dude your email address is all over the place. I agree that it‘s a security hole and should be fixed but unless there’s some other personal info that can be harvested, what’s the point? Glenn’s show, over the years, has started attracting too many paranoids. Well, come to think of it, Glenn is just as paranoid.

If these liberal progressives control airwaves, airplanes, etc, I will drop out of flying, cable, internet, etc and catch up on my reading. I sure hope Glenn and like minded people will still have a way to communicate with us when and if he or Fox news is silenced. Perhaps we shold turn to the Indians and learn smokesignals.

If anyone thinks for one second that any info of where we go and what we post email or webs etc can‘t be followed by Big Brother anytime anywhere then I’ve got some beach front property for sale in the high desert…they’ve been tracking us for years, even before the internet, now it’s just easier with more potential.

May I ask, was J Edgar Hoover conservative or liberal? That cross dressing freak of nature seemed to spy on every American who dared to say anything other than “Yes Sir’.

Google’s word recognition can be damn funny. I had clicked on a story where an elderly man had been clubbed to death by a Mexican with a golf club. To the side of the story was an ad by a golf club business on how to develop “the perfect swing”.

I think many of you are making connections here that just don’t exist. Google allowed this “hole” because they want to use the information to make money. I highly doubt there is some covert government conspiracy to rob us of our freedom involved with this.

Having said that, now that the technology has been uncovered, it will certainly give them ideas. I agree with DPCWOLLMANN that Google staff will be burning the midnight oil to fix the issue, now that it has been revealed.

My daughter had her gmail hacked into by a chinese address. Thankfully, she doesn’t keep anything worth finding it…but it was a disturbing reality, which pissed us both off.
Me, on the other hand, I purposely google and giggle about it, because they have to realize, they have no authority over me…furthermore, I know that they are being fully surveiled for the sole purpose, of God‘s wrath just waiting to hit em ’ hard…..only to be followed, by a judgement day that will leave them trembling!.

This info is old. Anyone paying attention knows not to log into anything Google, or use Gmail. It was reported at least 2 years ago that the ads that appear within your Gmail account reflect that the program reads your messages. IE: Emailing your mother that you are packing for your trip to Asia will result in ads about luggage and discount trips to Asia the next time you login to Gmail. If you must log into Google for anything (adsense for example), do your business then get out asap – and don’t use Gmail!

There is NO such thing as privacy on the internet.
Any letter you type can and sometimes WILL be intercepted by someone linked into the internet, since tcp/ip protocols DO NOT have any privacy concerns built n, so antthing is readable by anuone by default.
Yopu shoud encrypt yor messages to keep content away from snoopers, but the connection will allways be established, since anonymizers are far awau and few between.
And before anyone get his.hers knickers up in a bunch, >rEAL terrorist allready new this some decades ago, so don‘t bother with ’nice’ suggestions hoe the guvmint needs to read your mail etcetera.

hmmm… we’ve got Google (who is very close to Obama) gathering your info and the FCC trying to expand its authority to cover internet content. Say goodbye to online privacy, and hello to full government oversight on what you post, what sites you visit, and what sites you will have access to. Socialists must control media to be successful, and your internet is way too unregulated for thier tastes.

      Rogue,

I wish it were just socialists. What you are talking about has to do with Communism, and we have been warned about it over and over and over, yet we still allow this crap to go on.

The best example of what‘s going on comes from a comment made by a little known Commie that helped push the Marxist revolution of the Soviet Union in the early 1900’s. His comment was not meant for public ears, but it got out any way. Read it and weep…

“We asked for freedom of the press, thought, and civil liberties in the past because we were in the opposition and needed these liberties to conquer. Now that we have conquered, there is no longer any need for such civil liberties.”
