Whoops: New Oklahoma Governor Pledges to ‘Offend’ the Constitution

Newly sworn-in Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin took her official oath of office on Monday, but a slip of the tongue has many wondering if the oath of office needs to be administered again.

In the bone-chattering cold, the former congresswoman and lieutenant governor pledged to “support, obey and offend” the U.S. and Oklahoma constitutions.

“She dropped the ‘d’,“ off ”defend,” Fallin spokesman Alex Weintz said Wednesday. “I was amazed that anyone was able to speak at all or get any of their lines right considering how cold it was outside.” It was 29 degrees and light snow was falling when Fallin, the state’s first elected female governor, recited her oath of office on the steps of the state Capitol.

In spite of the flub, Fallin’s misstatement will not require a do-over and, under Oklahoma law, she is still the state’s governor, the AP reports.

“Clearly, she’s going to defend the Constitution,” Weintz said.

Story enough for you comment “non story” .. WTF ? This is a news sight, like a news paper..
If you buy a news paper do you read every inch of it? Just skip to the next story, geez !! I’m getting tired of reading comments like this one. NON story, Why is this even in the blaze , can’t they come up with REAL news.. YEAH, they do and they are very well rounded.. They report pretty much everything.. You could’ve known what the vid was going to show without even clicking in the room and moved right along without even watching… but no, you come in , watch it and then comment with “non story”.. Do you see how foolish that is ?

A FIRST! Not that she said something silly, but that you have to search for her party in the article. Normally, if it’s a Republican, it’s right up front. When a Democrat says something silly, you have to search for the party affiliation in the story.

Governor Fallin is a Republican, a Conservative and most definitely a defender of the Constitution. I heard the slip of the tongue, but due to the extremely frigid weather that day, I thought nothing of it. I couldn’t even speak clearly. Gov Fallin is a kind, but well-principled person that has represented our State well in the House. I suspect she regrets deeply getting tongue-tied, but to suggest that she retake the oath is going too far. Of course, the liberals are having a party over this. How exciting it would be if they would get just as excited when our dear Pres and VP make their slips. The liberals would have to stay drugged to keep their heart rate down. I am one proud Oklahoman to have Mary Fallin as our Governor, slip or not.

It‘s called a ’Freudian slip’. A subconscious wish or intent pushes out, past the critical editorial function of the conscious mind. The Constitution is a severe impediment to activist ‘progressive’ politicians.

Actually 29 is pretty cold for us here in oklahoma. Until the past few days, our temps have been in the 50-60s. So It’s “freakin’ freezin Mr. Bigglesworth”, and I could see how her teeth could be chattering and mispronounce defend. And as some people say it as dufend in this part of the country, ufend could also sound like offend.

any one can make a mistake. a Freudian slip, or it was just cold. either way, she should have taken the oath again and say it right. who know, she might (for whatever reason) switch political position and she then could say ‘i didnt day i would ’defend‘ the Constitution’.
i believe she meant ‘defend’ and not ‘ofend’. still, do it right. too much we let ‘little things’ go by until it becomes a ‘big thing’. the left’s moving towards their progress agenda, was a ‘little thing’
back then, now look at the mess we’re in. when something bad starts, nip it fast or it will get out of hand. ie today’s political mess.

Scorpio is absolutely right. I am an Okie and we supported Brogdon. Fallin is a Republican with personal political ambitions and nothing else. She voted for TARP and when I asked why she defended her vote saying she voted for a “new and improved” bill, not the original one! What the hell does that mean? Still beats Askins who is a pro obama socialist and gun control advocate. After losing Gov race she tried to get on OK supreme court rejected again by fellow socialist Gov. Brad Henry. Some people need to just go away.

It’s interesting how one person here assumed she was a Democrat, so he attributed her slip to her evil designs to destroy the Constitution. But others realized she was Republican (supported by Palin BTW) and simply dismissed it as the mistake is was.

But this shows clearly, that opinions about a individuals actions are based, not on circumstances, but your view of whether you or for or against the person. If they say some like this and they’re on your side, it’s a mistake, if they’re not on your side, then they’ve just proven how you hate the Constitution. Zero objectivity.

      Nice demonstration.
