AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Election officials in Atascosa County are correcting a mistake on absentee ballots to remove the flag of Chile, which is similar to the Texas banner. Voter Troy Knudson noticed the error. Knudson told the Austin American-Statesman that election officials congratulated him “for preventing future Atascosa voters from seeing the flag mistake.”
The flags of Texas and Chile both have a white stripe on top and a red one on the bottom, plus a single star in the middle of a blue field.
In the Chilean flag the blue is only in the top left corner. The Texas flag displayed the blue all along the left side.
Current elections administrator Janice Ruple blames a previous worker for the mixup and says “We just never caught it.”
The election is Nov. 2.

Posted on October 13, 2010 at 7:37amThe flags are confusing, I had to do a double take myself…….I remember commenting that either a lot of texans were at work in Chile,or the flags were very much alike. But, a texas should know.

Posted on October 13, 2010 at 5:13amAt a distance, the flags are easily confused. I suppose the “former worker” might have been from Chile or, who knows, from some place like DC or Mexico City. At any rate, most of the people coming across the border right now are from points further south than Mexico. They’re just passing through Mexico to get here. Either way, we need to call a halt to it.

What I meant to say about “Latino” being an offensive term to many Hispanics is that “Latino” is predominantly used by Communist/anti-American groups like “La Raza” and radical illegals and left wing liberals. Most Hispanics of non-Mexican descent and who are conservative find the term Latino offensive for that reason.
I am Cuban by birth, of direct Spanish descent, and a proud American citizen. I dislike even having to use the term “Hispanic” because it is divisive…why can’t we be Americans First??? I definitely can’t stand “Latino”.
And Cheezewiz, the “Wise Latina” doesn’t speak for me or most of my “Hispanic” friends…you’d be surprised how many of us are proud Conservatives, loyal American citizens, successful and well educated (ie. not milking the government for anything). I’ve been conservative forever, and a proud NRA member, hunter, and tea party member. So yeah, the “Wise Latina” and her socialist ilk are not my people.

Posted on October 13, 2010 at 4:44amSame here. I am American, my mother was a Hispanic immigrant who worked for a gracious American family. This family, helped her become an American citizen (just like the charity given to beginning American immigrants). This family also contributed and were zealous in making sure my brother and I were well educated. One thing my mother always said, “You are an American, be proud.” This is the last free country on this earth. We are the last country to continue to be charitable, the others just want. We have been DIVIDED by a bunch of elitists who are doing this for a purpose………to divide and then take over and ruin the American Exceptional ism …..use political correctness to enslave us all.

Posted on October 13, 2010 at 12:25pmI guess if all hyphenated Americans just started referring to themselves as “Americans” instead of Afro-Americans, African-Americans, Latino-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, etc. we wouldn’t really have to worry about what label offends whom.

PS: I am Cuban by birth…I can tell you that if you drop the term Latino around any of us, don’t be surprised to get some dirty looks.
And oh yeah, many of us love America, are proud citizens of the United States, and don‘t milk the government’s ****…including yours truly, 2nd year law student, NRA member, Proud Conservative and patriotic American.

Posted on October 13, 2010 at 12:28amThe flag error does not matter. Thanks to our progressive President and Congress, The United States will eventually become part of Mexico. Then, when Mexico becomes an Islamic country, individual states will not have their own flags. The only flag we will see waving from every building will be the Sharia flag. That is, unless we wake up before it is too late. We must make it impossible for ILLEGAL immigrants to survive here and, we must lay down the law to the Muslims and every other group. We must follow the lead of Australia’s Government which basically says: Get with the program or get out. Oh wait. I almost forgot. Our illegally elected liberal, progressive Muslim President will not let that happen. Why do I say that he was illegally elected? His own grandmother was present when President Obama was born in Kenya. Therefore he was not born in The United States and, constitutionally cannot become our President. He is nothing more than a Marxist, Muslim mole who is out to destroy OUR country. At this point in time, all one can do is to pray for GOD’s assistance and, figure out a way to move to Australia.

If one didn‘t know for a fact that a flag like Chile’s existed, it’s possible to think that the “Chile” version was perhaps just a stylized version of the Texas flag. Give ‘em a break.

Just goes to show how it seems that the voters are paying more attention than the employees of the system itself. with regard to people who support “reforms” made by TBofE, space here doesn’t allow a full discussion. removing references to thomas jefferson and the concept of separation of church and state (yes, i know those exact words are not in the constitution) is nothing less than an attempt to rewrite history.

Report Post »1. What I found inspiring was seeing their country’s flag all over. There was some structure that had the flag painted on it. The people chanting C H I L I..I felt a real twinge of jealousy.
Here that highly public ACLU went after a school because someone was “offended” when students chanted USA. We’ve got OUR flag being removed all over by ACLU defending a pinhead. Right now we have that little twerp of a lawyer refusing to say the pledge in a courtroom…professing to love his country and guess who’s in the picture now…..YEP ACLU . THEY’RE MAKING THE CURE WORSE THAN THE DISEASE.
I also heard the cheers for their President and the warm sentiments that from day 1 he put the “full force” behind bringing these men out. That he accepted help from many many countries world wide to make this a successful mission.
Then I reflected on potus and the oil leak…not quite the warm feeling up my leg.

Posted on October 13, 2010 at 2:27pm@Ronaldreagan1980 The coverage of the Texas Board of Education debate is just another example of media bias.
For example, “They took Thomas Jefferson out”. Yet his name is still mentioned in more bullets than any other, but just not in every single category. Will we not really understand Jefferson if we don’t mention he is part of the Enlightenment, too? I think we will still get the idea since students will be required to become familiar with Thomas Jefferson’s political philosophies.
And as for replacing “Capitalism” with “Free Enterprise”, I don’t see the big deal. Marx invented the word capitalism and the Left has made it a dirty word today. The revisions add Milton Friedman and Friedrich von Hayek, two champions of free-market economic theory, among the usual list of economists to be studied, like Adam Smith, Karl Marx and John Maynard Keynes.
The board decided that Texas students will be required to evaluate efforts by global organizations to undermine U.S. sovereignty.
Students must discuss the solvency of long-term entitlements such as Social Security and Medicare and consequences of abandoning the gold standard.
Students will examine why “the Founding Fathers protected religious freedom in America and guaranteed its free exercise by saying that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, and compare and contrast this to the phrase ‘separation of church and state.’ ” The whole evolution debate is a canard thrown out there to distract you from the fact that there was an Anti-Christian, Pro-Islamic bias creeping into our textbooks.
Students will study “the unintended consequences” of the Great Society legislation, affirmative action and Title IX legislation. They will also learn about violent and nonviolent members of the Civil Rights movement.
They require the teaching of “the importance of personal responsibility for life choices” in a section on teenage suicide, dating violence, sexuality, drug use and eating disorders.
We will call the country a Constitutional Republic instead of a democracy.
Oh the horror! How radical and right wing! Once again, PLEASE!
What ****** me off the most about this whole thing is the Left criticizes democratically elected, accountable officials in favor of unelected, unaccountable “experts” for our education. Can we say Czar? Doesn’t anyone else see this?
