Why Are Some Asking if the ‘Fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse’ Showed up in Cairo?

When an eerie, pale-green image appeared in a recent Euronews report on the Egyptian unrest, some bloggers asked an interesting question: “Is this the Fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse?” Foxnation.com, a news aggregation division of Fox, picked up on the story and repeated the same question. But while video does show something odd, the way some covered the story is overshadowing the story itself.

First the video (the anomaly occurs at about 1:20):

After describing the figure as a “flowing, pale green image that resembles an erect rider atop a horse in Medieval-like barding,” one blog points out that the “last of the biblical Book of Revelation’s Four Horseman of the Apocalyse, the ‘pale rider’ is said to be the bringer of death and the forerunner of ‘hell’ on earth.”

Eventually others, including Fox Nation, quoted the same description. And the fact that the video is making the rounds, and made it on a Fox site with the “horseman” reference, has opened the story’s coverage up to criticism.

Colby Hall over at Mediaite, which specializes in media coverage, writes this:

This story begs the question: what is FoxNation.com? When it launched in 2009 it was presented as a sort of hybrid news site/forum for users to share thoughts and opinions. But evidence by the following story, the definition of “news” appears to be a loose one at best. The commenters on the page seem to pretty much agree on two things: 1) that the alleged apparition is nothing but a lens reflection, and 2) that “this is amazingly insane… I can’t believe this is on a “news” website” as one commenter writes.

The liberal website Goddiscussion.com agrees the image is probably a lens reflection, and quotes one commenter who explains:

Notice how this “horseman” only begins moving when the camera pans to the right, moves at the same rate as the camera, and that other lights in the frame also move at the same time. lol

This is nothing more than a reflection from the fire. This is the same as when you take a photo towards the sun, and washout/spots appear in the photo.

Considering that explanation, Media Matters mocked those who wondered about the image’s origin, and even promised to issue a retraction if the figure did end up being the Fourth Horseman:

I’m going to go out on a limb and say: No, Fox Nation — that is not the Fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse.

Note: If I’m wrong about this, I’m willing to issue a correction… but that will be the least of my worries.

So now it’s your turn to weigh in: are some outlets overreacting to the image? Or, was this just a case of a cheeky headline?

      Where do you find evidence that the/a “Rapture” (as in the righteous being caught up from the Earth) happens BEFORE the Four Horsemen appear? According to the chronology of the Bible, there are a whole series of “woes” and “pestilences” and horrible things that occur after the horsemen appear-including 3 more seals.

      The idea that the good and righteous people of the Earth are going to totally escape all of the horrific events that are supposed to occur at the End of Times is a pleasant and comforting one….but it is not an accurate idea according to the Bible.

      Now don’t jump on me, because I would like to think we were going to be raptured out of this mess, but………….two years ago, I really started studying where some of our theology came from and found out this:
      The theory of the rapture of the church is doctrine that was NOT taught until 1862 when it was introduced by Rev. John Nelson Darby, an Anglican priest turned preacher. However, it was Darby’s disciple and associate, Rev. Cyrus I. Scofield with the publication of his “Scofield Reference Bible” in 1909 that raised the hitherto radical and unconventional philosophy to the level of fundamentalist doctrine.
      You have to decide for yourself, but you might want to also read Matthew 24: 29-31 and Mark 13: 24-27.
      This was interesting to me, because one of my Mother’s most prized possessions was her “Scofield Reference Bible”!!

      You people can’t even agree on the sequence of your own pretend demise. The only factually known ‘end of days’ is a couple of billion years from now when the Sun exhausts its fuel. Lot’s of ways to end before then of course, but not in the make believe ways you all do.

      I encountered that same problem as I began studying the end times. I had major doubts about the Rapture for that very reason. However, recently translated documents written by Ephraem the Syrian seem to indicate that the doctrine isn’t new at all. He lived around 306-373 A.D. and spoke of the Rapture in his writings. They seem legitimate.

    It is about as absurd as one can get to sincerely suggest that the prophesied ‘Fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse’ or any other ghostly apparition was captured on that video. There are probably hundreds of people all around that so-called ‘apparition’ and not a single one of them seems to have noticed it… but the camera captured it. Right.

    Whether it’s light refracting on the camera lens, an intentional fraud, or some other anomaly of light, the juvenile sick and twisted lowlifes trying to -baffle ‘em with bullshiat- by suggesting it is the real deal should be fired or sent back to the mail room.

      Don‘t you have a March 15th ’pole shift’, that absolutely no one in the reputable scientific community corroborates as being the day it will happen or that it would even be doom-and-gloom disastrous when it eventually does happen, to get ready for?       It is foolish for you or anyone else to concern themselves with the ‘end times’ and the ‘second coming’ at all apart from being prepared in your heart and soul. Any concern with the “signs of the times” are naïve and pointless. Jesus Christ said himself quite plainly and quite clearly that he would return when we all least expect it ‘as a thief in the night’. There is no ‘end times’ per se. People have been calling their current times the ‘end times’ for countless generations, and they have been wrong 100% of the time. Saying such things only serves to nudge even wider the distance of people from the Lord. Ever hear the story of the boy who cried wolf?

      “Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. For this reason you be ready too; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.” (Matthew 24:42-44)

      I am not the least bit afraid. I have been reborn. I am saved. Actually, I should clarify. I do have one fear and that is for my children and my loved ones and the souls whom I do not even know and have never met who -may- be left behind, and whom -may- never know eternal life enveloped by the warmth and unfathomable joy of our Heavenly Father and our savior Jesus Christ in heaven. But for repugnant people with black hearts to prey on the weak minded, mentally infirm, and the paranoid, and to perpetuate such gibberish as you sling around here, and that others sling in the MSM by suggesting that this video is the ‘Fourth Horseman’, is altogether tantamount to something akin to wicked.

      The path to salvation is not guided by lies, distortions, and chicanery. YOU better ‘man up’ and get right before it’s too late.

      It‘s Monday and I feel the wicked urge to play devil’s advocate….

      John, the person to whom the Book of Revelation is credited, would not have known anything about camera angles, lens reflections, or even trick photography and crafty editing would he? He’d just “see” a pale horse with death and hell following behind it…..*twilight zone music*

      Of course, I think he would have at least mentioned that the rider on that horse would be backwards…

      But still, Death and Hell have been on Earth for a while now and Mr. Pale/green/mottled, icky-looking horse was supposed to show up during the opening of the 4th seal. I‘m of the belief that we’re knocking (loudly) on the door of the 7th seal myself so the 4th horseman’s big entry came a long time ago.

    I do find it odd that anyone not conservative can use biblical metaphors and phraseology and be considered ‘urbane.‘ A conservative or Christian does it and we are all ’crazed, radical bible-thumpers’ that want to take your blackberry.. or whatever your currently worldly addiction may be named.

    So, Media Matters -it really doesn’t btw, are you familiar with the term ‘blow me’… cause then you might actually get my attention.. until then, all of your petty comments singling out Fox (ubiquitous for Any Conservative Person, from liberal PoVs) are simply mental masturbation between you and your ‘circle’.     This ghostly knight loos very much like one from the film bednobs and broomsticks.
    Check it out toward the end of the movie the witchs casts a phantasmal force spell to attack invading nazis.

      Possibly. It did cross my mind as a possible off-shoot of the tech. With this and the supposed hoax above the Temple Mount in Israel 2 weeks ago, it’s very possible that someone is trying to pull the lynch-pin to start a major uprising using holographic symbols of religious, apocalyptic signs. The Temple Mount incident could translate to the arrival of the 12th Imam or the return of Christ; depending on your religion. Now the Horseman. Seems like someone is trying to shake the hornets nest in a region where there are masses of ‘Believers’ who are not aware of the major advances in technology over the last 20 years. This stuff would look like the work of a god to someone who has no concept of even the possibility of that kind of tech. I’m not saying that Middle-Eastern people are dumb. They are as smart as any other person would be if they had to live in that kind of oppression. They are as smart as their governments have allowed them to become, and unfortunately, they are oppressed and educationally restricted by those governing bodies.

      I don’t know what the green image is. Perhaps it is supernatural, but I doubt it. It is strange that we also saw the ball of light hover over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem a short time ago, and then shoot off into the sky. I think someone is trying to interfere with end time events by projecting make believe aberations.

      The Four Horsemen of Revelation chapter 6 are what the apostle John saw in the vision of the end time.
      The vision was what he (John) saw, not what we will literally see. It describes the terrible events mankind would see after the invisible return of Christ Jesus and during his “presence”. Matthew 24:
      For your consideration, I submit the four horsemen have been riding ever since WW1.
      The Revelation is written in symbolic language and to understand it requires a accurate understanding of the entire Bible.

      As I read it, the first white horse appears to be the antichrist or maybe the spirit of conquest. I don’t think the rider in Rev 19 (who is Christ) is the same as the first seal horseman in Rev 6. Since Christ is the one opening the seals, it wouldn’t make much sense to me for that to be Him. I could be wrong, but that’s how I read it.

      Maybe Revelation 1:-3 can help. It indicates that Jesus is showing John all the things in Revelation as if it were a kind of movie or series of events for John to see and witness.
      So, in chapter 6:1 could not Jesus be opening the first seal and as a result, John sees the “movie” so to speak? I think the description of the rider of the white horse in 6:2 definitely matches the rider of the white horse in 19:11

      You could well be right. I’ve seen interpretations that support that idea and they are quite feasible. I read it differently for a number of reasons in addition to the one I gave, but that doesn‘t mean I’m right. I just thought to offer an alternative possibility.

      An interesting TV show, but they seem to be awfully quick to jump on an alternate explanation if they can reproduce something like it with technology. Perhaps it’s just the pressure to put it to bed and move on to the next one. I like the ones they can’t explain away because it means that someone was more clever than them in their creation, or there is more freaky going on in the world than many of us would care to admit. As for the video…looked like lens flare to me, but I’m not sure enough to bet money on it.

      ILUVAMERICA: I agree with you. I don’t think we will make it to the 2012 election. My heart is heavy about that. We must all prepare and get our homes and our hearts in order.       Agreed LuvAmerica. Whether people are a Christian, Atheist, or any host of other religions, I think it is safe to say that if God does return in our lifetimes, it will most definitely be NOTICEABLE! While this is certainly a reflection off the window, even if it was not, I think God would make a bit more of an entrance than some obscure YouTube flash of 3-4 seconds.

      Not quite sure what that was… but it looks as though it was a reflection of some sort. It didn’t move till the camera moved and towards the end when the camerea pans up…so does the reflection. Looks pretty weird though.

      What it really was, was not a lens reflection, but a windowpane reflection. The camera was indoors focused through a window at the scene outside. The “horseman” was a reflection in the glass of someone behind the cameraman who had some interior light on him. Thats why other spots of light followed the path of the horseman identically.

      REVELATION – Chapter 6

      It was an upside-down, reversed reflection of the burning bus.

      Look at the positions of the lights following the greenish object. It is an exact reflection of the streetlights, upside down and reversed. When you trace back the reflection is of the burning bus.
