Why Are the Obama Kids Banned From Facebook?

WASHINGTON (AP) — Michelle Obama says her daughters aren’t on Facebook, and that’s the way she likes it.
The first lady says her girls, Sasha, 9, and Malia, 12, have certain restrictions that other children don’t have because of Secret Service security issues. But she also said during an interview on NBC’s “Today Show” on Wednesday that she’s “not a big fan of young kids having Facebook.”
Even if the girls weren’t living in the White House, Mrs. Obama says Facebook is “not something they need.” Maybe when they get older, she added.

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 12:48pmGet this straight! I never agree with anything she says. That being said, I don’t care for facebook and the only reason I have a page is to keep up with my grand daughter. Some people seem to think you want to hear every minute detail of what they are doing on an hourly basis. Example: going to the store now, going to eat now, blah..blah…

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 2:12pmTo be quite honest, I wouldn’t want them to hear everything said about them if I were in the situation. Remember when Rush Limbaugh called Clinton’s daughter a “dog”? I mean, come on. Don’t like the dude, fine. That’s politics. But insult his children? That’s going clearly into “total lack of class” territory.

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 8:59pmThat’s probably true, but I have to agree with her about not letting her kids on Facebook. My kids use several different web sites that they can play games on, and I even have an account for my daughter to create t-shirts on if she wants to earn some extra money, but they have to wait for Facebook.
Do I think that Facebook is bad? No. As a writer, I share my articles with people through Facebook. I talk to people that I haven’t seen in person for years. My daughter can‘t go on Facebook because I don’t think that she’s old enough to know what information she can share and what she should leave private.

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 12:38pmI agree with her. However, her kids are actually not old enough to be on Facebook unless they lie about their age, they can’t sign up for an account. I think the age is over 13?? In order to sign up kids younger, you have to give a phoney birthdate.
Report Post »Beck-n-ing The Blaze
Posted on February 9, 2011 at 12:59pmExactly – Facebook policy is you have to be 13 or older to sign up. Of course, it seems to be common (and stupid) practice for kids under 13 to lie about their date of birth when signing up, leaving them stuck with the wrong age forever on FB since FB doesn’t allow you to change that part of your profile. So, in this probably very rare instance, I agree with Mrs. Obama. I’ve already had the conversation more than once with my 12-year-old who justified lying about her age because “her cousin did it” (with the parents’ consent even – UGH!).

Posted on February 10, 2011 at 9:52pmMy thoughts exactly. This isn’t as noble as it seems since both their daughters are too young for FB according to FB guidelines. What will she say in a year or two when all their friends are on FB legitimately?
Report Post »Caunotaucarius
Posted on February 9, 2011 at 12:35pmFor all their short comings the Obama’s are good parents no kids under at least 16 should be on facebook, there is no need for it. I am increasingly annoyed with having young family members on that site, it restricts my speech when conversing with friends. The real problem here tho is that the Obama’s think that they are all our parents and want to control us all not just their girls.
Report Post »gramma b
Posted on February 9, 2011 at 12:48pmI wouldn’t go so far as to say they are good parents. We don’t know that. But I think they are right on this one.
Report Post »TheGoverness
Posted on February 9, 2011 at 1:36pmSince one has to “okay” a friend request, one chooses to be restricted by whom one friends. Friending young family members and thus allowing them to view your content is a choice, not a foregone conclusion.

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 3:30pmBecause Facebook is for the slaves
Wikipedia’s IAO page says: “the IAO has the stated mission to gather as much information as possible about everyone, in a centralised location, for easy perusal by the United States government, including (though not limited to) internet activity, credit card purchase histories, airline ticket purchases, car rentals, medical records, educational transcripts, driver’s licenses, utility bills, tax returns, and any other available data.”.
Facebook’s first round of venture capital funding ($US500,000) came from former Paypal CEO Peter Thiel. Author of anti-multicultural tome ‘The Diversity Myth’, he is also on the board of radical conservative group VanguardPAC.
The second round of funding into Facebook ($US12.7 million) came from venture capital firm Accel Partners. Its manager James Breyer was formerly chairman of the National Venture Capital Association, and served on the board with Gilman Louie, CEO of In-Q-Tel, a venture capital firm established by the Central Intelligence Agency in 1999. One of the company’s key areas of expertise are in “data mining technologies”.

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 12:38pm@MiddleclasslessDouche. You libratrolls love anything the Chosen ones do….don’t you? Even though they are hypocrites at every turn. For an example, Mr’s Obommunist runs around the country, trying to force people to eat carrots, but look at her superbowl menu. Just reading it, would make your arteries harden. Now she says she is not a fan of kids having face book, but then why does she have one? Shouldn’t she set the example for her kids?
No one in the Obama Administration follows their own advice. They call people racists, but then allow the black panther party to intimidate voters. They claim to want a secure border, but allow sanctuary cities, and sue states for enforcing Federal law. So you can bet soon all you Socialist’s are going to try to limit facebook like they are doing in Muslim and Communist……..
Liberalism is a mental disorder
