Why Did Chinese TV Play ‘America the Beautiful’ During Video of Rocket Launch

China launched their Tiangong-1 space lab this week.  And they did so with lots of fanfare naturally.

But viewers of of Chinese television might have been confused by the music in a video showcasing the launch.

Business Insider:

As a tribute to the launch — which has been heralded as a major display of the country’s technological awesomeness — China Central Television treated viewers to footage of the launch, followed by animation of the Tiangong-1 module floating up to space — all to the tune “America The Beautiful.”

It is totally unclear what the meaning of this is.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

The Guardian:

The choice of soundtrack for the Tiangong launch raised several questions. Is this the work of an idealist seeking to usher in a new era of trans-Pacific co-operation, a nationalist who wants to colonise American culture as well as outer space, or simply a propaganda gaffe?

When asked why an American hymn was chosen, the state channel appeared to be stumped.

“I don’t know how to answer your question,” Chen Zhansheng of the CCTV propaganda department said. “I cannot help you.”

Understand what is going on in this case — politcal moves on a national level, to embarass the US, to show the world China is a up and coming power (the best friend/worst enemy kind), and to try and build nationalist sentiment within China for their communist leadership party.

At some point it becomes beneficial for China to launch an all out nuclear attack on the USA. They have let this plan slip more than once. It will benefit them greatly by culling their herd of 1.3 billion mouths to feed. As soon as they have purchased or stolen all of our technology and have sufficiently hacked our defense systems, game on.

Some will say nonsense, China needs us to keep buying their products, why would they attack? They need us to buy from them to feed the very population they would lose in a nuclear war, it’s a wash. The war scenario eliminates it’s only competitor on the global stage and is simply put, easier and more permanent.

China is now expanding into space at the very time we are pulling out. WE no longer have shuttles that can destroy enemy sattelites, but China will soon have a robust offensive space program in place paid for by American dollars tendered by the sale of cheap goods. If all goes as planned we will be “blind” in space and all of our telecommunications and defense satelites will be sitting ducks. At which time they will make the calculation that war is better than peace and the attack will begin.

      Have a nice day : )

Had enough yet? Wouldn’t it be great to void the laws Obama passed and undo the huge debt he caused? You can!

Constitution, Art. 2, Sec. 1, “No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible … .”

Exempting a “citizen” from being a “natural born citizen” proves they aren’t equal, or no exemption was needed. Being not less than nor equal, a NBC must be more than the minimum requisite for citizenship then, which was US birth to a US citizen parent. Only US birth to US citizen parents (plural) is greater, thus defining a natural born citizen.[1]

The Supreme Court agreed in Minor v. Happersett, 1874. “The Court held that Minor was a member of the “class” of persons who were natural born citizens. They defined this class as those born in the US to “parents” (plural) who were citizens.” – Leo Donofrio, JD.

Even if born in HI, Obama is not a natural born citizen! His Kenyan father precludes eligibility.

Usurpers are arrested, not impeached. Obama must be prosecuted for using an alleged fraudulent social security number and birth certificate in usurping the Presidency! Then every law, executive order and appointment Obama inflicted on us is invalidated.

Please petition your Sheriff and others to investigate Obama now!

TeapartyConman, repeating the same lie over and over doesn’t make it true. You know perfectly well that in Minor v Happersett the Supreme Court specifically stated that the full definition of a natural born citizen was not a settled issue and that they were not ruling on it because it had nothing to do with the case at hand

“Some authorities go further and include as citizens children born within the jurisdiction without reference to the citizenship of their parents. As to this class there have been doubts, but never as to the first. For the purposes of this case it is not necessary to solve these doubts.”

And you also know that they did finally rule on it in US v Wong Kim Ark (1998). That’s the binding precedent that has been the law of our land ever since, and it says you just have to be born here, it doesn’t matter who your parents were.

      @We are Americans

If we’re not going to obey the constitution, then what is guiding us?

According to you, nothing. Let’s just cruise along without a constitution and hope the Progressives don’t steal what’s left of our country? They’ve already stolen everything that hasn’t been tied down by the constitution and now you’d let them steal the presidency too?

Words mean things. Without agreement on the definitions of words, communication and contracts meaningless.

If we cannot even agree on the most simple basic definitions such as what constitutes a “Natural Born Citizen”, then what hope do we have to agree on more complex issues?

If I were in a position of political power, I would dig my heels in and refuse to negotiate anything else until the fundamental basics were nailed down. What has gotten us into such peril is that we have too long ignored the most basic questions. We allow the left to redefine words to suit their purposes and don’t challenge them enough – at our peril.

Now we are faced with the worst crises in American history – leaving our grandchildren with a debt too big for us to repay because we haven’t complied with constitutional limits on government. What we fail to value – we will lose. We have failed to value our founding fathers’ genius in setting up a constitutionally-limited Republic and we will surely lose what little is left of it if we do not require compliance with the constitution.

There is no real disagreement about this issue. The term was not defined in the Constitution. After over a hundred years of dispute the Supreme Court ruled that, like all other legal terms used but not defined in the Constitution, it was defined by the laws of England at the time of our founding. No responsible Conservative spokesman with any knowledge of our laws and history, even those who went along with the birthers as far as demanding further proof of the President’s place of birth, has ever bought into any of this not eligible even if he was born here nonsense. Most of the President’s Republican opponents are lawyers, and the rest all have lawyers, if there was any merit at all to this argument don’t you think one of them would have brought it up in all these years? It is entirely a fake controversy manufacture by internet kooks for other internet kooks.

You ain’t seen nothing yet. They blame us for 100s of years of poverty and privation. They see no difference between us and the Brits who humiliated them in two opium wars. Now its time to be Chinese, and flex the muscle, and PUNISH all past wrongs, real or perceived.

The real tragedy is that we allowed ourselves to get into this position in the first place. Corporate greed, union greed and the incompetence of our politicians is to blame. It has gone way too far to fix now. My factory moved there in 03. I started retailing there in 05 and now I have no exposure to the US market save for a few income properties which I am trying to unload. I keep most of my profits and there are few obstacles including trial lawyers. Shanghai is fantastic city and many Americans live there. Chinese kids are more like American kids were when I was growing up in Atlanta in the 50s. They are very pro American and have a bright future. They are polite and hardworking. The next generation of leaders were born in late 60s and 70s andare freedom loving, We are heading toward what they have emerged from. They will colonize ruthlessly. If we don’t get a Reagan type president and complete control of both houses, we are done and I’m out of here. Fox, Beck and Limbaugh are making a big mistake bashing the ‘Chi-coms’. We must make them our friends and partners. The people who built America are no longer having children and the current generation don’t have American ideals anymore. They say things like you do. Our new immigrants vote Democrat. We must replace Spanish with Mandarin now. The future lies with China where profit is not considered greed. We have a totally different situation than China as far as society goes! China does not have the influence of drugs like we do, but their kids are getting more and more spoiled and a record number of them are dropping out of schools because of the video game influences and such. I know this first hand because I know a family in China who are having problems with their son on these issues. I have been all over China from Shenzhen to Qiqihar and I agree with you on what the people are like! They are fun loving people who really do care about enjoying life and at the same time work very hard to accomplish goals! The food is great and I can never see enough when I go there! They are ruled by the communist party, but have a structure of business like we do here economically. If it were not for Deng opening up the two port cities in China, it would have never became a reality for them to ever prosper! I don’t believe China really wants to cause America problems, because they have their own from the inside who really want democracy if not even a republic! Religion is hidden, but many practice Christianity! They come here and thrive with education beyond what we do and you wonder why they progress so much in life???

Not to be overly picky, but “America the Beautiful” is not the national anthem. It’s still a great song, though!

    Two likely explanations:
They liked the tune and had no idea what it was. This would be the flip side of all the idots who wear tattoos of chineese charcters without knowing what they mean simply because they look cool.

OR, someone in charge of it likes America, but does not want to say so publicly. If that is the case, let him remain anonymous. We don’t want him to end up lying in an unmarked grave with his liver in some Indonesian Lawyer.

Amen. The conspiracy theories that are suggested in the comments with every China-related story get a bit old. The Chinese are just as susceptible to an “oops” as anyone else. They may have done it on purpose, but it is at least as likely that somebody heard the tune for the first time and thought that it sounded pretty good, so they used it as background music. 99% of the Chinese people have probably never heard the song, and as a result, have no reason to associate it with the United States.

We need to be a bit more paranoid and consider that this was intentional. This “space lab” could be a trojan horse or spy sat or something more military and the song was played as an early warning to us ignorant Americans. We need to have some eyes on this device to make sure that it is not going to send some payload to us next time we challenge their power over Taiwan or take people and companies back from their grip. Lets look into this further.

I have to agree with you. I see this as being done intentionally as if to say your days are over….and it is our turn to be #1.

The sad thing is our leaders will blow this off and act like it isn’t a big deal as they continue to push us down the road of decline.

They’re building a trojan horse and yet they gave us a warning?

I don’t think I could be stoned enough for that to make sense. So I’ll just stay sober.

It is obvious, they were thanking us for subsidizing the launch through the profits they have made by “investing” in America…and they are mocking us, laughing at us because while America has no human launch capability at this time, they, the C@mmies, former 4th world country….can.

America no longer can send a man into space, we closed an atom smasher, we no longer manufacture televisions…..I am almost embarrassed to be an American…WE are becoming a third world country.

Maybe they played it as a tribute to the country they now own…

Could it be that they want to destroy America the beautiful with this rocket? They have used music to mock America while visiting the White House. Most likely what they did for this event also. We are the laughing stock of the world now.
