Why Did Glenn ‘Endorse’ a Calif. Democrat for Congress on Radio?

After we posted a video last week showing an almost unbelievable ad by congressional candidate Dan Adler, Glenn couldn’t resist talking about it on radio. He delivered a heavily sarcastic retort, mocking it for being racist since it featured an Asian woman saying people should vote for Adler because he’s Jewish. Apparently, Adler didn’t get the joke, and on Sunday his campaign released a statement claiming Beck had officially “endorsed” Adler for Congress.
You don’t think Glenn could let that go, do you? He didn’t. And on radio Monday he recorded a few “endorsement” messages for the Adler campaign.
First, a little recap. Here’s the original Adler ad that started it all:
Now, here‘s Glenn’s initial reaction:
Somehow, from that the Adler campaign came up with this:
Conservative TV and radio personality Glenn Beck has endorsed Democrat Dan Adler in the California 36th Congressional District special election, taking place this Tuesday, May 17th.
During his Friday radio show, Beck spent several minutes dissecting the Adler campaign’s television ads and online videos, calling Adler’s ads “amazing” and “tremendous.”
The show paid particular attention to the Adler ads with the theme “Send a Mensch to Congress.” A Beck sidekick said of one of those ads, entitled “Stick Together,” that “this is a great ad!” See the ads–as well as videos describing what a Mensch is–here: Adler2011.com.
“Being Glenn Beck’s endorsed candidate in the race is an odd position for a Democrat, but I do understand his preference for someone from the private sector rather than one of the three Democratic professional politicians who are running. And since a Democrat is ultimately going to win the seat, there is a strange logic to it, I guess,” said Adler.
Glenn caught wind of Adler trumpeting his “endorsement.” Here’s what he had to say (via Glennbeck.com):
“It doesn’t make any sense for a progressive to want my endorsement. So, today I heartily endorse — what’s his name? — Dan Adler. I want the voters in California to know that we are practically brothers of the brain,” Glenn said.
“We are so like minded, he has the same positions on almost everything, although he’s not coming out and saying those things.”
“We both believe that the rich are paying far too much. Pay their fair share? They pay more than their fair share. They deserve a tax break,” Glenn declared in his support for he and Adler’s shared stance.
How will the Adler campaign spin this one?

Patty Henry, your comment would make sense if Glenn were truly endorsing this guy. But it’s obvious that Glenn thinks they are polar opposites in what they each believe and his endorsement is clearly Parody.

Obviously you don’t know sarcasm and parody when you see it.
I agree with Beck and I get his sarcasm back at this idiot. In my post, remove the M and there is a big difference, just like between Beck and Adler.
I have no doubt, such as when I listened to Beck say it the first day, Adler is a dufus and Beck was clearly pointing that out.
Lucky, don‘t jump to conclusions and don’t call people names. Golden rule son.

Posted on May 16, 2011 at 5:23pmThose of you who think this was in any way serious on Beck’s part – I take it you don’t listen to his radio show, you don’t subscribe to his email newsletter, you stop listening after the first half of a sentence and you’re as much idiots as Adler is. Beck, Pat and Stu were tearing this idiot Adler apart for this ad, which was horrifically racist and condescending. Glenn’s follow-on “endorsement” was pure sarcasm. I’m taking it on faith that you know what sarcasm is.

Posted on May 16, 2011 at 7:38pmI‘m guessing the several people on here isn’t smart enough to know sarcasm when they see it! Glenn was being sarcastic the whole time and then when he “endorsed” Adler it was because as Adler said that a demoncrat will ultimately win that election. Glenn said that he and Adler think alike (like two hard core conservatives), that would sit Adler down real quick because how many of those California liberals would vote for anyone, even a demoncrat if they believed that rich people are paying too much and need to pay less? If anyone goes by Glenn’s endorsement then Adler will totally lose the election. DUH

Posted on May 17, 2011 at 12:39amDidn’t care too much for the commercial, but come on, all politicians go appeal to minority groups. Bush was elected partly because he courted the Mexican American vote.
And politicians openly declare their Christianity (even guys like John Ensign and Newt Gingrich who preach one thing and live another) to get the Christian vote, and support policies that overwhelmingly support rich white folks, while throwing up barriers that prevent the young or minorities from being allowed to vote (groups which vote Democratic) and demanding the removal of funding for social programs that mostly support the efforts of poor minorities, people no lazier than you or I who only want to the American dream.
So, yeah, a little over the top seeking the Asian and Jewish minorities, but at least he is living and supporting diversity. Maybe you guys think “diversity” is a bad word, but if you do, wait around another 10 years. We’re becoming a more diverse country, something you know, and many people fear. And a few people are making a living appealing to that fear.
