Why Does Newt Gingrich Think John Roberts‘ Health Care Ruling Is ’Probably Good’?

Newt Gingrich Roberts Health Care ruling

AP

Former presidential candidate Newt Gingrich struck a different tone from other conservatives regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul: He thinks it’s “probably good.”

The former House Speaker — who railed against the Affordable Care Act while on the campaign trail — told the Huffington Post he was “curious” why Chief Justice John Roberts sided with the liberal wing of the court to uphold the law, but thinks the decision will ultimately be “healthy for the country.”

“In a way, because I really do believe we want a less interventionist court, placing the political decision back on the American people I think’s probably good,” Gingrich told the site Wednesday.

The Supreme Court’s decision, Gingrich said, is “probably Obama’s worst nightmare” because it makes the November election an even starker choice between the president and Mitt Romney.

“What Roberts has said is, ‘Yes, it’s constitutional because of a gigantic tax increase, and if you don‘t want the gigantic tax increase you’ve got to beat Obama,’” Gingrich said. “You don’t just get to come to the Supreme Court to bail you out. And I happen to think that part of it is probably healthy for the country to be forced to confront, that it’s their burden.”

Still, Gingrich said he was “surprised” by Roberts’ ruling because its unpredictability.

“I think that one of the things for the rule of law to work, is you have to have predictability,” he said. “It is a little jarring to that pattern when you have Chief Justice Roberts and the four liberals suddenly on a major issue voting against the four conservatives. I think there’s some degree to which you want a continuity.”

Gingrich’s comment about wanting a “less interventionist court” is in line with remarks he made while campaigning for president in December, when he blasted an “increasingly arrogant judiciary“ committing a ”fundamental assault on our liberties” with judicial overreach.

Orders to black mail the states (and also so Congress can’t) “Do what we say in Medicare or we‘ll take away the money we’ve already been sending you” BLACK MAIL. OF COURSE damnittohell….it’s OUR MONEY. But I think that Roberts did the right thing. We voted this do-do head into office. We need to

First of all, I agree with Newt. We are all like little kids who want Mommy and Daddy to fix this problem we created by either letting the MSM feed us a load of bull about so many things that we screwed up and didn’t pay enough attention in 08 and got what we deserved. In fact we allowed the Dems to take over Congress in 06 and that’s when the real trouble began. I know our family had two small businesses then and not now.
I agree with @Diebido send money. In fact the other day I received a mailing from both Romney and Ann Romney in the same day. I was disgusted as usual with a neighbor who is a true mental lefty and will vote for O again.
I thought to myself I should donate money and put it in her name and then she will start getting mailings. Maybe she will learn something. At least she will go crazy and maybe end up in the funny farm where she belongs and won’t be able to vote. Just kidding, of course about the funny farm not the donation.
I can’t wait to see how crazy it makes her.

So Blazers, let me get this straight:

Reagan signed a bill into law forcing all hospitals to render emergency medical care to all patients whether or not they can afford it.

Obama signs into law a tax to pay for emergency medical care.

So basically, you guys are arguing that we should get medical care for free. Isn’t that Communism?

i’m not normally pessimistic but, the sad fact of the matter is that “obamacare” cant and wont be repealed. it has already had time to get intwined in the system and will cause a huge rippling effect……the big insurance companies have spent millions of dollars gearing up for this ( and you will pay for it in your premiums one way or the other”), the irs has already hired their goons to enforce the new“ tax”……i’ve read that some of you are planning to just not pay the “tax”, with all due respect, how are you planning to do that?
you also have 50% of the population that will benefit from this….the entitlement crowd….they have voting power too…..even if the republicans have the way, i dont believe they have the will….remember, its additional revenue for them to spend….

The problem is the Fed Guv should have never had the power to take the amounts of money that they do through income taxes. Once the states allowed and facilitated it by withholding your money and sending it to these crooks in DC then the path to Tyranny began. Massive amounts of money had Banks and Corporations swarm to DC like vultures to get their fair shake. They created media empires to make the sheep think that this is the way it is and its for your own good. It’s a small club of American aristocrats that really run things. They created two parties to further keep everyone in the dark. These big elections are really about them and which ones get the purse strings and who gets to the hog trough first. They could care less about you idiots bickering about stuff of no consequences to their cash cow. most people have at least 25% of their earnings confiscated by these crooks that can’t balance a checkbook so they can inside trade, transfer cash to their buddies, buy elections, and pay for their lackie police state lest the plebs get out of hand. The suck arse media debate amongst themselves about “What the American People want” knowing full well your going to get what they give you. It’s a club, and you aren’t in it. I expect it to never change until it goes bankrupt then they will pose as the heroes and roll out some more liberty stealing tyranny, and the sheep will lick their boots unconditionally. Problem, reaction, solution. It‘s a joke and it’s on you.

I hated the Roberts decision but I agree that the American people need to take the country back themselves and not depend on the court decision. They need to be responsible for the people they elect and actually read and study the bills themselves and contact their elected officials. The fact that the people voted Obama in was a mistake. It is actually a play on words…tax versus penalty……something Obama has been doing since before he was elected has been to redefine things for effect. I am tired of the word games and deceit. I would like to see some responsibility in government people but also in the voters. It is not enough to listen to the news for a few minutes a day. One really needs to know more than the propaganda being pushed in the liberal media and press.

The ONLY job of the supreme court is to determine the constitionality of the laws congress passes. The american people are completely defenseless against unconstitional laws because the two parties believe in unconstitutional government and have rigged the system to prevent any 3rd party competition. I agree, although I HATE the decision. Newt knows what will inspire the GOP ticket from President to local dog catcher, Obamacare is THAT bad and everyone who makes America work knows it.

Should he had voted down Obamacare, the lefties would be up in arms and could take back the house and keep control of the Senate; should that happen our country and liberties would be forever gone. I think Roberts saw the hatred conservatives have for Obamacare and saw a much bigger picture. The complete destruction of the DNC this November will happen should his ‘guess’ be right.

I just pray that was his motive and that he is right…..

The question is will Mittens do what needs to be done and with stand the withering leftist media hatred that will engulf him. He is from TAXassachusetts after all….

What many people tend to forget, if the Supreme Court would have ruled against ObamaCare, Obama and the White House would have still implemented it and would basically thumb their noses up to anyone to stop them…look at Fast and Furious…look at Black Panthers stopping people from voting…look at so many other things Obama did without anyone being able to stop him…Obama would have done the same if ObamaCare was ruled against; and liberals and progressives would have loved him. Now, it is in Congress and the The People hands. So, let see if the The People will fulfill their part and vote Obama out. Let’s see if the The People will do their part and vote Obama and the Democrats out. Anybody But Obama.

The one thing standing between America and Dictatorship is The Supreme Court. We have only 3 branches of government. President Obama has neutered Congress, and repeatedly lobs attacks against The Supreme Court – even during the State of The Union Address. The intent is clear. Destroying 2 of the 3 branches leaves only the Executive Branch standing.

The Supreme Court maintains authority only so long as the country recognizes its legitimacy. Roberts ruling grants the American People the power to keep or strike Obamacare themselves. In addition it maintains the integrity of The Court, strengthens the 10th Amendment, limits Federal Power, removes the teeth of the law, and, by accurately identifying Obamacare as a tax, provides clear procedures for repeal. Brilliant.

As Justice Roberts correctly stated in his ruling, elections have consequences. If America doesn‘t want Obamacare she’ll have to elect a new President. What the Chief Justice gave us is the freedom to exercise free will. There’s nothing more Constitutional than that.

First rational post I have seen out of you. Yes, the precedent is established and now there is virtuallly NO LIMIT to the power of the federal government. As we saw with Obamacare, they can call anything a tax and it will be legal (even if they dont pass it as a tax). So we sort of limit the commerce clause and in return we get a whole new monster….Not a good deal. He uses EO to bypass LAW, negate LAW, and take the place of LAW. This is lawlessness and he is consistent. If our pathetic conservative asses do not vote each fool out of office and turn over each house of congress, he knows that his vote would have simply prolonged the inevitable and necessary revolution needed to save the USA. The machine has grown out of control and has exceeded the balance point. Roberts knows the end of freedom or, communism in America lies this November. I have a theory about CJ Roberts obamacare decision. We know that Obama has been demonizing the congress. This is in preparation for his second term to dismantle the congress. Had the SCOTUS found Obamacare unconstitutional it would have given Obama fuel for the fire in his second term to dismantle the SCOTUS. CJ Roberts by finding Obamacare constitutional has now taken the wind out of Obama’s agenda sails. CJ Roberts might have been brilliant in his ruling by giving the whole issue back to the people to vote Obama out and saving the SCOTUS as well in case Obama wins (God help us) a second term.
