Why Exactly Are Chinese Bloggers Smashing Refrigerators With Sledgehammers?

You can pay a pretty penny nowadays for kitchen appliances. You shell out the cash expecting that such devices will provide the minimal services that manufacturers advertise, without additional headaches. So when a refrigerator door won’t properly close, it’s bound to tick some people off. ITN News reports on a group of angry tech bloggers in China who banded together to take out fridge frustrations on the products in front of the brand’s headquarters:
China Hush reports that the sledgehammer protest began with “China Internet Celebrity” Luo Yonghao, who wrote in his micro-blog that the Siemens refrigerator and washing machine he bought three years ago were both broken. China Hush reports that after filing several complaints to Siemens customer service with the company refusing to admit that there are issues with their products, Luo promoted the “refrigerator gate” incident:
“November 20, Luo Yonghao, and other volunteers came to demonstrate at the Siemens headquarters in Beijing. They smashed three problem refrigerators and submitted a written request to urge Siemens to give recognition of product issues, to stop shirk responsibility, to stop ignoring the demands of consumers and also recall the problem refrigerators.
Finally, Siemens called the police and the show was finally over. Luo Yonghao continued posting on his micro-blog saying if Siemens keep avoiding this issue, he will convene more victims to smash refrigerators again.”

Posted on November 21, 2011 at 10:26amSo, after 70 years of making refrigerators, they haven’t perfected the closing door? Perhaps go back to the drawings and re-introduce the Nash-Kelvinator refrigerator. Those things worked forever.

Posted on November 21, 2011 at 7:55amGood news here for GE as they just have moved their business over there. Now the Chinese can purchase GE products that have those ‘controller’ chips in them emitting RF waves to communicate with those ‘dumb’ meters also emitting pulsed RF waves that we are forced to accept.

Posted on November 21, 2011 at 8:55amWell of course it is. If they made it to last, you wouldn’t be buying more of it. It’s just like cars….I hear they aren’t requiring manufacturers to maintain parts for 20 years after a car stops being produced. That‘s because today’s cars aren’t expected to last that long. Just go out and buy a new one…..I guess they haven’t heard stories (like I was raised on) of the great depression. My grandpa only had toys that he made. Or used a wagon hoop and a stick to guide it as they ran down the street.

Posted on November 21, 2011 at 12:39amThis just more Chinese anti foreign nationalism that goes on all the time and is pure propaganda to try to get the people to buy domestic products and support local companies. As a matter of fact, we should be doing the same thing here in America with Chinese products. The Chinese don’t like it when 1% of the products on their markets are foreign, how do they think when Americans are forced to buy foreign products because 95% of the products on their shelves are. Boycott foreign products, boycott foreign businesses and restaurants, and don’t hire foreign workers! Take back your country Americans and get a sense of nationalism, especially during the godless commercial spending spree that Christmas has become.

Posted on November 21, 2011 at 1:34amI would believe Luo if he SHOWED a fit or interference problem for the refrigerator on camera. As it is, I have to give your accusation serious consideration.
Buying American cars, that is pretty tough. All that is left is Ford. I cannot see buying a GM car & paying homage to the union faction of the ruling class.

Posted on November 21, 2011 at 4:36amJust opposite! Chinese consumers are crazy for foreign brands and do not trust locally made Chinese products. Chinese upper class consumers want nothing but foreign brand-names /name-brands which are priced much higher. This is a symbol of their wealth!

Posted on November 20, 2011 at 11:33pm@Cassandra — I have to agree with you, the apartment complex I live in has a wash room loaded with GE washers/dryers and most of the time the infernal things are out of order or shake, rattle and quake so much you cannot hear yourself think let alone anyone else speaking or trying to. Junk in all areas as far as I am concerned.

Posted on November 21, 2011 at 12:27amI’ll one up you. A couple of years after buying our new home, our GE microwave decided to shoot a flame out its side. Of course, it gave up the ghost. A week or two later the oven died in similar fashion. We called GE, let them know we had two flame throwers pretending to be appliances in our home. Customer service response… sorry they’re out of warranty.
Anyone but Obama and any appliance company but GE.

Posted on November 21, 2011 at 1:32amNow that you mentioned it, my GE microwave over my stove makes funny popping noises and changes fan speeds half way through the cooking cycle. Then there was my one year old GE refrigerator with the ice maker that sounded like the St. Valentine’s Day massacre. Oh did I mention my GE dishwasher. Two years old and it stops running. The repair man said I could either change out the motor for $300 or get on my knees and reach underneath with a chop stick and spin start the fan on the motor myself every time I run it. I decided that I could buy a lot of knee pads for $300.

Posted on November 20, 2011 at 10:22pmTo have quality, you must demand quality….for too long the Chinese have been told they must accept what they get. If you pay for it, demand quality.
The problem with the occupy FLEA groups [Freeloading Liberals Encouraging Anarchy] groups, they do not believe they should pay for anything.
