Why is a Virginia Pilot Program on ‘Multiculturalism’ Closed to the Public?

If the stated goal of a particular program is to reach out to people of all walks in an effort to encourage “multiculturalism,“ and better serve residents in the ”diverse” community, then why would that program be closed to the public? Seems a bit counterintuitve, doesn’t it?

Nonetheless, that seems to be the case with a pilot program created by Chesterfield County Virginia’s Multicultural Advisory Commission. The pilot, set to launch Thursday, is said to “improve county dialogue with its diverse communities.” The Richmond Times Dispatch states that the commission will hold a series of moderated focus groups across the county to address issues including education, public safety, health, housing and business development. And, it’s sure to be quite a melting pot…except that the meetings do not seem to include representatives from the Caucasian or Christian communities, respectively:

Imad Damaj, vice chairman of the commission, said representatives of Asian, Latino and African-American communities will attend the first focus group, along with a representative of a Muslim group. Nonprofits, including homeless organizations, are included in the discussion, along with government officials from the county’s fire, police and school system. Minority business owners have also been invited.

“This is the first effort where the county is reaching to these different community leaders,” said Damaj, a native of Lebanon and president of the Virginia Muslim Coalition. “We’re hoping to learn from these communities.

“What are the challenges for them in living in Chesterfield County? How can we serve them better?” he asked. “What do we need to do to make Chesterfield a better place for their business? Are we serving them in schools and social services well?”

Chesterfield County Virginia Multiculturalism Pilot Closed to Public Whites, Caucasians, Muslims, Christians

According to the 2010 census, the county’s population is 21 percent black, 3 percent Asian and 2 percent multiracial. Seven percent of county residents are Latino, and 7 percent are foreign-born.

The goal of the commission, which reports to the Board of Supervisors, is to identify the concerns and interests of its minority communities. It also seeks to promote cultural understanding and inclusiveness of those groups within the county.

Dale District Supervisor James M. “Jim” Holland said the commission was formed, in part, so that the supervisors can make informed decisions about its various constituencies. He said as the county further diversifies, “it’s even more relevant.”

It seems many distinct communities are going to be represented in Chesterfield County, however, Christians, Jews, and Caucasians in general seem to be completely left out.

Chesterfield County does seem quite concerned about its Hispanic community, however.

“That’s [Hispanic] a community we need to be aware of and communicate with and be attentive of,” Holland said.

He also alleged that it is important for the county’s diverse groups to have a place at the table when it comes time to make important important decisions. Holland’s stated priority is that “we are hearing them and their concerns are understood and addressed.”

“I’ve learned to appreciate the beautiful diversity we have and the significant asset it is in making our community have a really high quality of life,” Holland said. “It helps us be a far more globally educated community.”

All well and good, however, the meeting is also, apparently, not open to the public.  Now doesn’t that basically defeat the purpose?

    I live 2 miles from Chesterfield county. The Chesterfield Board of Supervisors has been a long standing joke. These people are power happy “little napoleons”. They really don’t represent the way people think around here. There was a big stink a few years ago because they wanted a “diverse” group to offer up prayers before their meetings, so they had a Wicken worlock do it.
    Let’s say a prayer to the Devil? Ya, we should have a great meeting and make REAL PROGRESS after that !!

      Oh, just an interesting note. I met a couple Wiccans once. The girl’s friends were all in prison for something (she never said why). She told me that she offered herself for a ceremony for eternal life for the others. Yikes! Buh-bye, it was nice to meet you, Jennifer, but you’re insane! Oh and I said MEET, not meat or eat. ;-) I expect she must be in an insane asylum by now.

      Well, it’s Wiccan, not Wicken. And technically, they’re not praying to the devil. They worship a goddess or sometimes a goddess and god. One could argue that they are indirectly praying to the devil, since they worship a false god, but your characterization of their beliefs was really inaccurate.

      But, about Chesterfield County, your point is well taken. I live not too far away as well, and heard about this in the afternoon on WRVA. Not surprising that The Blaze would pick it up, since Doc Thompson has substituted for Glenn in the past.

      Multiculturalism and Tolerance. Ideas that only seem to go one way when implemented. The issue as implemented isn’t good vs evil. Its addressing what is “fair” and “equality”. Guess what, those are subjective judgements of men who have selfish motives at the root of their assessments.

      Applying the concepts of Natural Law its easy to tell the difference between good vs. evil. As Americans we understand this very simply. We openly welcome people into our community, homes and social structure whether they believe the same as us or not.

      Its interesting that those who come to our country then want to shame, embarass and force us to change to their norms. Why did they then come to America? Go back to where you came from if you want to bring it here.

      Pretty darn simple concept if you think about it. We allow others to put other gods before us and it where does our government lead us? Oppressive laws and restrictions on our liberties.

When you demand the authority to pray before an official government meeting, THIS is what will inevitably result. Religion in government is an all or nothing proposition.       Americans must be reminded that all elected or appointed officials work for us and, as such, we have the power and right to terminate their services.

      We spend trillions of dollars a year in taxes for services provided to illegal aliens and billions more for immigrants. It is time these politicians gather together the Latinos, Muslims, and any other ethnic (diverse!) group and inform them, in no uncertain terms, that it was unity, not diversity, that formed, grew, and strengthened this country. Further, if they do not learn our language, accept our customs and culture, they are not welcome in our country.

      The commission of these self-anointed despots who live off our taxes via their salaries must understand we will never allow them or the illegal/legal immigrants to turn our country into a clone of the third world countries they left behind.

      This kind of you-know-what is exactly why my family left Chesterfield for Henrico five years ago.

      But here’s a question for the Chesterfield supervisors: My white husband is one of three white owners of a Chesterfield based business that employs about thirty people and contributes to YOUR tax base. By excluding Caucasians from your panel you are essentially telling my husband and his partners that their business and the taxes they pay YOU are not worthy of your attention. So tell me, please, why should they keep the business in Chesterfield rather than bringing it to Innsbrook? There are some pretty low rents out here right now and Henrico would love to have the taxes. Or…maybe Goochland would like the revenue. Or Powhatan or New Kent….

      You hit on it…short man’s disease. We white males don’t qualify as multicultural. We‘re nearly the only group that won’t embrace the idea that we need training wheels on our bikes and we won’t tolerate others being held back to assure our victory. We don’t need it. The sickening thing is… no one “served” by multiculturalism needs it, either. It’s just that we white males are the only ones who know it.

      Although, we’ve all fallen significantly since our founding; or at least, since the civil war. I just finished a great (very short and entertaining) book by John Taylor Gatto (who taught in NYC schools for 30 years,) about our government schools called, “Dumbing Us Down.” Evidently, all along, the whole goal of schools has been to turn kids into the sort of people who need to be herded like sheep and “helped” by multiculturist programs.     “Multiculturalism” is NOT DIVERSITY. Multiculturalism is an Invasion, and infringement on a Countries Sovereignty !!!       There is a very simple reason Caucasians are not invited to the festivities — we are paying for all the extra goodies that they will be planning to petition the government and they need to keep it quiet for as long as they can until Obama can quietly issue an executive order on a Saturday evening giving them all they want.     Why the multiculturalism now, but not back in the early 1900′s when most immigrants arrived at Ellis Island? These people came from diverse cultures, and speaking different languages. They were checked to see if they were healthy enough to enter the Country, and asked how they planned to support theirselves.

    The plan was for them to jump into the “melting pot” and assimilate into American culture. American ways; American dress; and most importantly, American English.

    They were free to celebrate their former cultures and traditions with others like them. THAT’S what made this Nation the best place to live, not this new notion of “the American culture is offensive to me, so I don’t want to be exposed to it”. People like this don’t want to assimilate, but want to conquer.

      You are dead bang on. American exceptionalism is rooted in the “melting pot”. My grandparents came from Ireland, My wife’s grandparents came from Italy. They worked hard. One in the coal mines. One in the Army. We celebrate our heritage but we are Americans. My wife makes fantastic Italian food while, once a year, I force my family to corned beef, cabbage and boiled potatoes. Our families have fully assimilated just like most immigrants.

      Multi-culturalism is an anathema to American Exceptionalism. It is not celebrating heritage. It seeks to destroy the “melting pot”. In this particular instance, it appears to be a method to bring Islamic beliefs in the “back door”.

    I noticed that the vice-chairman of the group is FOREIGN-BORN and also the chairman of a group that promotes non-christians. He states that he wants to “learn” of these groups.

    If I was still in this community, I would be holding my own meeting outside the committee‘s meeting room’s door to PROTEST the use of my taxes for a closed door meeting which IS AGAINST THE LAW in Virginia and I am sure that the findings of the group, considering they don’t want input from anyone who is a white American-born person, will cost American culture taxpayers. FYI: I was both a paralegal and on-call photojournalist for the Virginia Pilot in the mid-60s.

      The punchline is that Imad Damaj is getting PAID for being the chair of this “commission”. I guarantee it. Hey, BLAZE, why don’t you send a crack investigator to Chesterfield County and find out how much Mssr. Damaj is being paid by the county to plot secretly against us southern crackers. I would be more interested to hear the county’s embarassed response to a question about the “gentleman’s” salary rather than listen to some douchebag bureaucrat preach to us condescendingly when you ask him why the session was closed to the public.

      Ron_WA native americans are not native they are immigrants as well. the human species is not native to america. You trace native american bloodline geological records back far enough you find out that all humans migrated to america native americans were just the first immigrant to the land.

      POTAGUE: you’re right American Indians have only been is the US for about 5500 years; they are not actually native just like Europeans are not native to Europe. My brother’s Indian squaw as she calls herself has only live on the land she occupies for the past 4300 years or so … point is don’t be too righteous about who has a right to this or that; we are all temporary occupants of God’s world.

      stuff like this is a waste of time. This stuff happens over time and naturally any way by singling out specific races or relgious denomination only incurages bad behavior. No one like favoritism hence why we should not do stuff like this and leave it to the community not a buracrate. Once you start this you do it for all or no one. For instance there was korean woman got introuble for no properly registering her kids for school. She was new to america and had trouble with the paper work she explained this and they did not care she asked if they could print it in her language they told her no no exeption, ow except spanish for the mexican immegrant. Really thats why no special treatment period and common sense would have said drop the issue let her register her kids it was just a simple mistake..

      Ron you are right. Nitpicking liberals don’t have a clue about much. I for one think that people who lived on this land before europeans arrived enmass should be referred to as ”native”. Nez-Perce have 10,000 plus years in the west. That says native all over it.

    This liberal dung has no place in the public school system. They’re teaching homosexuality in the California schools. They’re teaching hatred of America in Arizona schools. Now Virginia?

    Conservatives need to start pushing conservative ideas in schools just to make a point. The NRA needs to go into math classes and start a ballistics unit. After all, that’s the liberal mindset. If it interests the kids in a subject, then it’s good. Kids can study bullet trajectories, how the wind affects bullets, etc. What a great way to learn math. Then, when liberals get the message that politics has no place in school, we can go back to teaching the basics.

    2 + 2 = 4 no matter what race you are. Half our high school kids can‘t read or write and they’re wasting time and money with this stuff. Ridiculous.

    At least when these Virginia kids are serving fries at McDonalds they’ll be sensitive to the cultural needs of the other french fry technicians.

    I did not a prohibition against whites, mixed races or Christians. I did see an intentional outreach to minorities but nothing saying concerned citizens of any group could attend.

    Blaze: why make this an issue of race & ethnicity?

    Invite whites & others to join so everyone is properly represented. Again, I say back to the melting pot! Celebrate the similarities not the differences.

      Ron_WA, thank you for your service if that is what you implied. You must see that there is a deliberate exclusion taking place here. Imagine yourself in amongst a group of friends that are “diverse” and they all of a sudden start speaking in a diferent language in front of you. Would you feel happy about that? It may be harmless conversation and nothing to do with you, but it is rude of them to exclude you this way.

      The Blaze is merely pointing out how rude the County is being to well over half its residents in its “outreach” to (as you put it; others may say catering, or pandering to) the others.

      The beauty of this country is not in its colors, it is in its culture. Self determination and self reliance. The motivated can, and usually do succeed here. Our laws are for the most part abided by due to the morality of our culture. To change that culture is a dangerous proposition. Look at how it works out in other countries. Most caucasians don’t care what color their neighbors are, nor what holiday they celibrate in December. I will not exclude them, so why should I tolerate being excluded?

    It’s the do-gooders who screw this stuff up. The bleeding hearts where there is no bleeding to address. Their primary purpose is not to help these folks but to feel good about themselves. I’ve got a goofy brother and a misguided sister that fit this mold.

      Ummm, the NWO is a racist plan,, and if you are white and of European descent,, you aint in the plan.. Which is quite perplexing when you consider the likes of George Soros and Ted Turner, just to name two of the many, that drives this plan. You will be culled and disposed of by race, not nationality.
