Why Is Pope Benedict XVI Urging Everyone to Quiet Down?

VATICAN CITY (The Blaze/AP) — Pope Benedict XVI is asking everyone to quiet down. In his annual communications message released Tuesday, Benedict extolled the sounds of silence. He said a little bit of quiet makes people better listeners and better communicators by giving them more time to think about what they are hearing and saying.

While on the surface this may seem like an odd recommendation, listening is a skill that seems far too absent in many sectors of today’s society. And in a world inundated by Tweets, Facebook statuses and 24-hour news coverage, that precious time to think and reflect gives words greater value, he said.

“Joy, anxiety and suffering can all be communicated in silence – indeed it provides them with a particularly powerful mode of expression,” he said in his written message.

Pope Benedict XVI Wants People to Be Silent so They Communicate Better

Benedict has in recent years used his annual communications message to comment on social media. He has urged priests to blog and Catholics who spread the faith on Facebook and other social networks to be respectful of others.

This year, his attention turned to the need to occasionally tune out the social media information overload to allow time for greater reflection. He called for striking a balance between silence, words, images and sounds.

“By remaining silent, we allow the other person to speak, to express him or herself, and we avoid being tied simply to our own words and ideas without them being adequately tested,” he said.

Pope Benedict XVI Wants People to Be Silent so They Communicate BetterHe noted that sometimes the most authentic communication takes place in utter silence, “between people who are in love: gestures, facial expressions and body language are signs by which they reveal themselves to each other.”

Silence also allows for greater discernment about what is really worth listening to, Benedict said. And of course, it allows for prayer, contemplation and silent conversation with God.

Benedict, for example, has marveled during recent trips to Croatia and Madrid for World Youth Day at the ability of tens of thousands of people gathered in fields and piazzas for prayers to go absolutely silent in contemplation.

The 84-year-old pontiff is known to be quiet by nature. A theologian and lover of classical music, he speaks softly and is said to be an excellent listener.

Considering the Vatican is a Bank, I have no interest in what drivel comes out of that place. Religion is the tool to control the masses. My faith is in a higher power, and my relationship with that higher power needs no sanction from any religion on earth to speak to it; other than my my own voice.

Sell the Vatican; Feed the world…

I wouldn’t listen to the Pope if he told me my fly was open. He is a horrible person. (emphasis on the period) He supports a single world government and monetary system. I also severely doubt that the Vatican is anything more than a shadow government making puppets out of our nations. If you listen to the Pope instead of following the ideals set forth by our founders (which were immortalized by the works of Thomas Paine and John Locke) then you do not believe that all men are created equal with inalienable natural rights.

from Paul ll speech in 1996 http://www.medjugorje.org/pope2.htm

Search the Vatican website, lots of speeches on bringing about “Peace” and lots of UN comments and props. Research the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, pretty wicked stuff. The UN also has a brilliant charter written up for the United States, freedom is pretty much absent according to our God-given rights and our Constitution.

I think the UN and it’s globalist agenda for “all of humanity” speaks volumes. I don’t trust the UN, I don’t trust the World Council of Churches, pretty much anything falling under “International, Global, World, Collective” etc.
Research for yourself………….”Peace, peace but there is no peace”

      1) Re: “One World Government” claim –
It would be beneficial for you to learn (or at least understand better) the Principle of Subsidiarity – a Catholic principle in Social Teachings—and its corollary the Principle of Participation. You may have more in common with Catholic teachings than what you think.

      2) Re: “Hitlar Youth” claim —
A very telling account of this experience is shared in an interviewed published in “Salt of the Earth” given when Benedict XVI was better known as Cardinal Ratzinger. His “enrollment” was done by his professor against his will.

Clearly, the Pope, like George Soros, is Nazi sympathizer. Through back channels he’s thrown his support and the vast financial resources of the Vatican to Romney, who is a self-admitted communist (RomneyCare anyone? Homosexual agenda? Hello?, Earth to Romney supporters!). The Pope has made it clear that he supports a One World Government, one controlled by the Bilderburg group, all of whom – coincidence? – are Catholics reporting to the Pope. Then the Pope’s vision will be realized, the World Government will take away your guns and you subjugation will be complete. And absolute rule of the world for the next 1000 years will be complete, and Hitler’s vision of the future realized. Only the richest will hold on to their wealth and priviledge under the new regime, and the rest will become slaves.

To all of you who agree with me and have seen the evidence, thank you for supporting my conclusion on the subject. To all of you who don’t believe that the Catholic Church is unholy, I understand that alot of you are Catholic and find it hard to go against the group that you grew up with and were indoctrinated in. But I too came from a Catholic family. My mother’s parents are Catholic and so was she. She used to teach the Sunday Bible school sessions at her church. However, my Catholic grandparents do not believe in the teaching of Thomas Paine or John Locke. They do not believe that men in this word have inalienable rights. Their church does not teach these things. Moreover, they teach the opposite. They teach that man is to serve God and that the way to serve God is to serve the Church and the Pope. This is why the Vatican receives something like 1/3 of a billion dollars every year. Now, realize that that is the number for the Vatican alone. Not for all of the tithes to local churches paid in by Catholics. That number is much larger and I wouldn’t know where to get those figures.

And should I mention the fact that the Catholic church has centuries of child abuse behind it? The latest being the molestation that we have all heard about. But for centuries they would castrate the boys in their choirs so that they would achieve a higher pitched voice. If that isn’t child abuse and demonic, what is?

How Do We Know It’s the True Church?
Scripture supports the Petrine ministry in the Church. You must also come to understand and value the four-fold marks of the True Church—that it is “One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic.” However, there are twelve other traits of the church’s authority.
These twelve traits will help to understand how comprehensive and complete the Catholic claims of authority are. Other churches and ecclesial bodies might claim some of the traits, but only the Catholic Church demonstrated all twelve fully.
It Is Rooted in History . . . We have to ask what a group of Christians who were deliberating a difficult matter would need to make their decision.
First of all, it seems clear that their decision would have to be made from a historical perspective. It was not good enough to decide complex moral, social, or doctrinal issues based on popularity polls or yesterday’s newspaper. To decide difficult questions, a valid authority has to be historical.
By this I mean not only does it have to have an understanding of history, but itself must be rooted in history. In addition, the authority has to show a real continuity with the historical experience of Christianity. The churches that have existed for four or five hundred years can demonstrate this to a degree, but only the Catholic (and Eastern Orthodox) Church has a living link with history that goes back to Roman times—and then, through Judaism, back to the beginning of human history.

Adaptable. The historical link is essential, but on its own is not sufficient. Historical authority has to be balanced with the ability to be up to date. An authority that is only historical becomes ossified. Christians face complex modern moral and doctrinal dilemmas. A valid authority system draws on the wisdom of the past to rule properly on the questions of the present.
It Is Objective . . .A third quality of a valid authority system is that it needs to be objective. By this I mean it needs to be independent of any one person’s or group’s agenda, ideology, philosophy or self-interest. A valid authority transcends all political, economic, and cultural pressures. The objective quality of this authority system also allows it to make decisions that are unpopular or that go against the spirit of the times and majority opinion.
An objective authority is based on certain universal basic assumptions, immutable principles, and observable and undeniable premises. From these objective criteria the valid authority system builds its teaching.

. . . and Flexible. For the authority to be valid, however, it cannot rely on abstract principles and objective criteria alone. Throughout the Code of Canon Law, for example, we are reminded that the law is there to serve the people of God in their quest for salvation. Individual Christians, or particular Christian groups, often fall into one side of this pair or the other. The rigorists or legalists want everything to be objective and “black and white” all the time, while the liberals or sentimentalists want every decision to be relative, open-ended, and flexible according to the pastoral needs. Only the Catholic system can hold the two in tension, because only the Catholic system has an infallible authority which can keep the two sides balanced.
It Is Universal . . .An authority that can speak to all situations can only do so if it comes from a universal source. This source of authority needs to be universal not only geographically, but also chronologically. In other words, it transcends national agendas and limitations, but it also transcends the cultural trends and intellectual fashions of any particular time. Every church or ecclesial structure other than the Catholic Church is limited, either by its historical foundations or by its cultural and national identity.

      Posted on January 25, 2012 at 10:30am

The national, cultural, and chronological identities of other ecclesial bodies limit their ability to speak with a universal voice. When they do move away from their foundations they usually find themselves at sea amidst the fashions and trends of the present day. They also find that they lose their distinctive identities when they drift from their foundations. A universal authority system, on the other hand, transcends both chronological and geographical limitations.
. . . and Local. However, this universal authority needs to be applied in a particular and local way. An authority that is only universal remains vague, abstract, and disincarnate. For a universal authority system to be valid, it also must be expressed locally. Catholicism speaks with a universal voice, but it is also as local as St. Patrick’s Church and Fr. Magee on the corner of Chestnut Street. Not only does the universal Church have a local outlet, but that outlet has a certain autonomy which allows it to be flexible in its application of the universal authority. Catholicism travels well, and because of the universal authority structure, it can allow far more varieties of enculturation at the local level than churches which are more bound by the time and place of their foundations.

It Is Intellectually Challenging . . . If an authority system is to speak to the complexities of the human situation, then it must be able to hold its own with the philosophical and intellectual experts in every field of human endeavor. What other ecclesial system can marshal experts from every area of human expertise to speak authoritatively in matters of faith and morals? Time and again, the Catholic Church has been able to speak with authority about the spiritual dimension of economics, ethics, politics, diplomacy, the arts, and philosophy.
This authority must not only be able to hold its own with the intellectual experts in all fields, but it must be intellectually satisfying and coherent within itself. A unified and complete intellectual system must be able to explain the world as it is. Furthermore, this intellectual system must continually develop and be re-expressed—always interpreting ageless truth in a way that is accessible for the age in which it lives. This intellectual system must be an integral and vital part of the religion, while also being large enough to self-criticize. Only the Catholic faith has such an all-encompassing, impressive system of teaching.
. . . and Accessible to the Uneducated. While the authority system must be intellectually top notch, the religious system must also be accessible to peasants and the illiterate. A religious system that is only intellectual or appeals merely to the literate can speak only for the intellectuals and liter

Some denominations appeal to the simple and unlearned, but have trouble keeping the top minds. Others appeal to the educated elite, but lose the masses. Catholicism, on the other hand, is a religion of the greatest minds of history and the religion of ignorant peasants. It is a religion that is complex enough for St. Thomas Aquinas and simple enough for St. Joseph Cupertino. It has room at the manger for both the magi and the shepherds.
It Is Visible . . .Protestants are taught that the Church was invisible. That is, it consisted of all people everywhere who believed in Jesus, and that the true members of the Church were known to God alone. This is true, but there is more to it than that. The Church is made up of all people everywhere who trust in Christ. However, this characteristic alone is not satisfactory because human beings locked in the visible plane of reality also demand that the Church be visible. Even those who believe only in the invisible church belong to a particular church which they attend every Sunday. Those who believe only in the invisible church must conclude that the church they go to doesn’t really matter.

. . . and Invisible. The Catholic system of authority recognizes both the invisible dimension of the Church and the visible. The Church is greater than what we can observe, but the church we observe is also greater than we think. The invisible Church subsists in the Catholic Church, and while you may not be able to identify the extent of the invisible Church, you can with certainty point to the Catholic Church and say, “There is the Body of Christ.”
A few small Protestant denominations claim that their visible church is the true church, but their claims are ludicrous because they have none of the other twelve traits of true authority. Because it has all these traits, only the Catholic Church can claim to be the living, historical embodiment of the Body of Christ on earth.
It is Both Human and Divine. Finally, for the church to speak with authority it must be both human and divine. An authority that speaks only with a divine voice lacks the authenticity that comes with human experience. Islam and Mormonism, which are both based on a book supposedly dictated by angels, are unsatisfactory because their authority is supernaturally imposed on the human condition.
On the other hand, a religion that is purely a construct of the human condition is merely a system of good works, religious techniques, or good ideas. Christian Science or Unitarianism, for example, is developed from human understandings and natural goodness. As such, both lack a supernatural voice of authority.

The Judeo-Christian story, however, is both human and divine. The voice of authority is always expressed through human experience and human history. Divine inspiration in the Judeo-Christian tradition is God’s word spoken through human words. This incarnated form of authority finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ, who hands on his totally incarnated authority to Peter and his successors.

Built upon the Rock. Some Churches may exercise some of the twelve traits, but only the Catholic Church is able to field all twelve as a foundation for decision-making. When the Catholic Church pronounces on any difficult question, the response is historical, but up to date. It is based on objective principles but applies to specific needs. The Church’s authority transcends space and time, but it is relevant to a particular place and time. The response will be intellectually profound, but expressed in a way that is simple enough for anyone to apply. Finally, it will express truths that are embedded in the human experience, but spring from divine inspiration.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church says that it is Christ who is infallible, and he grants a measure of his infallibility to his body, the Church. That infallibility is worked out through these twelve traits, but it is expressed most majestically and fully through Christ’s minister of infallibility: one person—the Rock on which the Church is built, Peter and his successors.

All you Catholic haters, don’t get your panties in such a bind. According to an ordained Saint, the position of the Pope won’t be needed for much longer as it will fall with the city Rome very soon.

Please introduce yourself to Saint Malachy:

      And his most famous work:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prophecy_of_the_Popes

I don’t tend to put too much credit or faith into prophetic lore, but I must admit that it is interesting that several well known days of dark times prophecies all seem to be converging. Whether or not I believe them doesn’t really matter, the fact that world leaders like the ruling elite in Iran do is however very concerning as they believe in the ability to self fulfill prophecy. Makes you want to study what their prophecy states will happen doesn’t it?

…and the fig-leaf exemption for religious groups will not be modified, apart from allowing some groups an additional year to comply.
Cardinal-designate Timothy M. Dolan responded minutes ago, saying: “In effect, the president is saying we have a year to figure out how to violate our consciences.”

I wish there was more SILENCE in the Catholic Churches!! Sometimes when I go & pray you have people talking/gossiping out loud (even the priests). There is no respect for the people who actually go to the Church to pray!!!

Yup, went to Catholic school through 6th grade in the late 60‘s early 70’s. Then went to a small town high school and graduated with 40 of my closest friends (class of 41 kids). I can’t imagine the pit the public schools have become today because my kids went to private school.

Why Is Pope Benedict XVI Urging Everyone to Quiet Down?

So i can tell another Joke….

Boudreaux & Thibadeaux went hunt’in. Thibadeaux had to take a leak, so he went behind a tree. The next thing he knows a Cotton Mouth Snake jumped up and Bite him on his Baton. He Yelled at Boudreaux “HELP ME BOUDREAUX A COTTON MOUTH SNAKE DONE WENT AND BIT ME ON MY BATON!!!, WHAT I’M A DID?” Boudreaux calmed him down and said: “Cher I’m gonna run for the Doctor, wait here!”

Boudreaux ran as fast as his legs would run. He shouted “Doctor, Doctor, Doctor a big Cotton Mouth Snake done jumped up and Bite Thibadeaux on his Baton! What I’m A did?”.

The Doctor said “You need to go back and suck out the poison!”

Boudreaux said: “You Want Me To Did What?”

The Doctor said “You need to run back and suck out the poison, Boudreaux!”

Boudreaux took off running. When he made it back to Thibadeaux.

Thibadeaux axed him “What did the Doctor Say?”

Boudreaux looked at him and said: “Cher, The Doctor said you gonna Die!”……

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God! Not the words of men. All men can do is echo God’s words! If the Holy Spirit doesn’t penetrate the hearts of the hearer, the words are not heard. Every time God’s Word is echoed it does not return unto him void but accomplish that which He sent it to do. That tells me that God must speak to men to accomplish His purpose! God speaks through the Holy Spirit and His Word. The Holy Spirit that Jesus spoke of would come when He left the earth to go back to the Father in Heaven. Jesus did say, fear not, he will come again and Jesus told us, ” if I go away I will come and again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, you may be also, in His Father’s house were many mansions”. If it were not so, he would have told us that is wasn’t so!
    Paraphrased!!!!!
Jesus also he said that he was our intercessor and through Him we could approach the throne of Grace boldly! Jesus is the only one that can unite a man or a women with a Holy God!

Explains why the Catholic church’s charitable donations are way down. Cheap liberals think the government is the only charity they have to give to. If you need examples look at Biden‘s Gore’s and Kerry’s charitable contributions prior to running for president. Between the 3 of them it might have added up to $1,000 combined.

The reason they are still mostly Democrats…and that includes the clergy and bishops as well. is because of Cardinal Bernardin as Chairman of the Prolife Committee of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and head of the Archdiocese of Chicago, got all the bishops in 1984 to expand the definition of “prolife” to include so-called “social justice” issues. In the biography called “Cardinal Bernardin – Easing conflicts – and battling for the soul of American Catholicism,” written by a long time friend of his years before the Cardinal died, the writer discussed Bernardin’s motives for changing the word “prolife,” which for 11 years after being coined only meant anti-abortion to counter the pro-aborts calling themselves “pro-choice,” the biographer said Bernardin did it, among other reasons (which never materialized), to “keep the prolife movement from falling completely under control of the right wing conservatives who were becoming its dominant sponsors.” (pg. 243,244) Cardinal Bernardin never retracted nor denied what was said in the biography about his reasoning for changing the definition of prolife to include issues that had nothing to do with abortion. Consequently, the leader of probably the most Catholic Democrat city in the country, Chicago, and its suburbs was able to soothe the consciences of Catholic Democrats such that they were able to stay Democrats because they were able to say, “They were ‘prolife,’ too, but they care about what happe

Here’s an example of the tension between liberals and conservatives in the Church. This is a link to the Newman Society which is very orthodox and conservative commenting on a bunch of liberal Catholic “theologians” who were bashing Santorum and Gingrich. Look at the responses of the conservative Catholics.

JPII was an actor, and was a natural in front of a group/crowd. This charisma, I would think, made it easier to reach out to the media. BXVI is more of a professor/philosopher… and I would venture to guess that the “elites” feel more threatened by that.
