Why Is the Story About Malia Obama Vacationing in Mexico Disappearing from the Web?

UPDATE: The Administration has just responded to the disappearing stories.
Have you heard that Malia Obama, the president’s daughter, is reportedly spending her spring break in Oaxaca, Mexico? Allegedly, she’s jetting off with some of her classmates and 25 Secret Service agents to a country that the State Department has said all Americans should avoid. But something is different about the latest “Obama vacation controversy:” references to it are disappearing from the Internet — and fast.
Around 3:00 EST, a Telegraph story reporting on the event was the first to vanish (note how the url remains the same in the “before” and “after”):

Then, the related Huffington Post article was found to be linking back to a completely unrelated Yahoo News page titled “Senegal Music Star Youssou Ndour Hits Campaign Trail.”

The Yahoo News story that HuffPo links to makes no mention of Malia Obama or her Mexican vacation. This raises two possibilities: either HuffPo has made an error in its link, or Yahoo has also removed its “Malia in Mexico” story. The latter more likely considering that the “-obamas-daughter-spends-springbreak-in-Mexico” url is still present in the Yahoo story.
And now, the link to the Huffington Post article on Google redirects to the site’s main page; the page itself is gone.
In addition to larger news organizations, smaller sites are also removing their stories.
Free Republic removed a related discussion thread:
And “Global Grind” removed its related article:
Of these sites, the only one to state a reason for the change was “Free Republic,“ where the Admin wrote ”Leave the kids alone.”
So that raises the question: Why were all of these sites taken down? Is the story false? Were they removed for security reasons?
Consider that the story still lives (as of this publication)* on the site of The Australian, which uses a story from the well-respected AFP (a sort of Associated Press for France):
So far, no outlets have explained why the stories have been removed. It will be interesting to see if they do.

UPDATE:
Buzzfeed is now reporting that it is a “long tradition” not to report on presidential kids’ vacation plans, citing this as the possible reason for the many unexplained retractions.
If this is the case, it still raises questions as to why Malia was allowed to vacation in a country that the State Department recommends no American travels to.
Neither AFP nor the White House responded to Buzzfeed’s request for comment.
UPDATE II:
The Montreal Gazette has now posted the story of the vacation. It’s one of the only sites that is reporting on it. Interestingly, the story is actually attributed to the AFP (mentioned above). You can read it here.

Unfortunately, the Secret Service is paid with tax money. For normal inter-continental travel, this cost is entirely justifiable; the protection of the Presidential family is a necessity. Unfortunately, when travel to another country is involved, an excessive burden is placed on the American taxpayer to support this kind of vacation with the hotels, travel pay, and transportation costs of our Secret Service. I am not saying that The Presidents children do not need or deserve a vacation, only that a vacation in another country, especially a country which has been placed on the travel warning posted by the U.S State Dept, is an excessive burden to our already over-spending government and over-taxed working class.

First and foremost, I’m a mother and although I also have a teen that would adore going to vacation/study/whatever in Mexico,but with the current climate down there of ugly with the drug cartel people, my response is WHAT ARE YOU THINKING! 25 Secret Service agents is nothing against an army of criminals down there armed with automatic weapons who would love to snatch that child for their own purposes, let alone the possibility of her getting hurt.
Then very far behind that, you can add the cost, but considering the risk to life, that pales in comparison and is meaningless.

There’s some things that the Obamas need to realize – being a member of the president’s family means that there are some things you gave up being able to do when the dad (or mom, if Kristi Noem ever runs) takes the oath of office. One of those things should be letting your adolescent child go to Mexico, if it requires 25 Secret Service agents in tow.

I wonder why the parents of these kids didn’t pressure the teacher into coming up with an alternative. If it’s Spanish class, couldn”t they have gone to Spanish Harlem, Miami, CHICAGO, or anyplace with a a heavy Spanish surnamed populace and culture in the USA? I guess since this is Oaxaca, and the cartel violence is much further North, the Obamas with their STUPENDOUS knowledge of geography, probably aren’t worried. Those poor secret service agents. They probably hate these *hitty assignments. Yet another bill we are paying for. Another unecessary expense. The Obamas are milking it for every drop they can get.

I remember thinking, “where are her parents?” No mention if mom was tagging along to see to it that her very minor daughter was properly supervised. Maybe the Secret Service is doing double duty as a nanny service? Maybe she’s just a “very mature” 13-year-old? It’s not the kids in the story that bother me, it’s the behavior of the adults surrounding the story.

Well, lets see, I was Stationed in Hawaii during the Reagan years, he stayed at Belows, at the VIP quarters. Low cost to tax payers and low security costs. Obama Stays at a 30,000 a week mansion, and costs $200k in security for each him and Moochelle, because they travel seperate.
George W. stayed mostly at his own Ranch, only a security costs. While he was at “his house” he still worked.
Reagan took very few vacations, and there again, mostly back to his “Ranch”, where it wasn’t costing the taxpayers, $30k a week plus security.
Why hasn’t Obama taken vacations back to Chicago? To his own house? Instead he is going everywhere on our dime.
And George H.W., even when he went to Kinnebungport, he stayed at his own house.

They are deleting this because the average american can not afford to send their 13yr old daughter on a lavish vacation. And with the state of the economy they should not be going anywhere but the WhiteHouse (hopefully their last year) I believe the media should keep the kids out of the lime light but POTUS shoud do that also, which he hasn’t.
