Why Is the UN Condemning Israel Over ‘Women’s Rights’ but Ignoring Syria

The United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is set to wrap its annual conference this Friday. And according to them, the great threat to womens‘ rights isn’t Syria, nor Iran, nor even the Taliban, but…Israel?

Haaretz explains:

Friday’s session will include such professional resolution as concerning “woman and natural disasters,“ ”women hostages,” women and girls and AIDS,“ and ”mortality among women.

However, the panel is expected to also an eight-clause resolution, determining that the “Israeli occupation” in territories, including East Jerusalem, is the main obstacle for the advancement of the Palestinian woman.[...]

Responding to the decision to condemn Israel, Israeli envoy to the UN Ron Prosor told Haaretz that the “council’s bring levels of absurdity and cynicism to new heights.”

“The thousands of Syrian women butchered, tortured, raped and trampled under Assad‘s iron boot don’t even get a passing mention in the panel’s decisions,” Prosor added.

Along with the Syrian oversight, the resolution also fails to mention honor killings or Hamas’ repression of women. Nor is this the first time the United Nations has failed to respond to other issues of brutality while condemning Israel. In 2006, Lawrence Summers, then-President of Harvard University, gave a speech denouncing the anti-Semitism of the U.N. He noted:

The United Nations-sponsored World Conference on Racism — while failing to mention human rights abuses in China, Rwanda, or anyplace in the Arab world — spoke of Israel’s policies prior to recent struggles under the Barak government as constituting ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity. The NGO declaration at the same conference was even more virulent.

Why the double standard exists is not immediately clear, though it may have something to do with the makeup of the United Nations generally. Many openly Antisemitic countries send representatives.

    the UN is as communist and pro-muslim and anti-American anti-Israel as it gets. obama is in its filthy pocket, and soros owns most of those nations as it is. the whole corrupt building should be NUKED and demolished where it stands, preferrably with all of those vile monsters in it.

      While perhaps making a catchy title, the context is lame. The question is whether there is a valid concern for women’s rights in Israel, not whether there are similar or worse violations in Syria, which of course there are. The yes I’m doing something wrong, but Johnny is doing something worse is a school yard response and only worked with the stupidest of teachers.

    Be aware of “Responsibility to Protect”. It is now dominating our foreign policy and leading us into conflicts such as Libya and Syria. It’s really neat because a few countries can form a coalition, claim innocent civilians are in danger and overthrow the gov to “protect” the civilians…. RtoP has identified the “conflict” between HAMAS and Israel Defense as endangering innocent civilians and “No Fly zone” over Israel should be established…

    Kick out the UN, stop funding them, then reclaim and clean up the land the UN now sets on for it is a toxic waste dump.       The League of Nations, which was founded before the UN, was disbanded because WWII took place.

      Hopefully in the future, a history book will say the UN was disbanded for echoing Hitler’s antisemitic propaganda.

      The UN is simply put, an evil organization, that exists to subjugate people and take away their rights. They want us all to be serfs and slaves, to be used and exploited, while they consolidate the power wealth and resources of the world for the “cultural elites”.     As a matter of fact, the Assad regime claims that it is “cleansing” the areas in question, the city of Homs, etc., rather than stating that it’s murdering its opposition (9,000 innocents, so far). Ironically, only one country in the area is offering humanitarian aid to the survivors of the Syrian genocide. That country is not one of the 56 other Moslem states, it’s the state of Israel. And, yet, Israel is condemned by the UN, per usual.

      If the UN is really so concerned, why don’t they go into Israel to talk to the poorly treated Arab women there and offer them a free move out of Israel? That’s because they know there would be no takers! Arab women in Israel are treated much, much better than in ANY Muslim country!!!

    It’s so interesting that We just gave Afghanistan Billions of dollars in aid and weapons! We also give Pakistan money all the time, yet we are in debt to other countries??? Don’t you think it is time for us to say “No more!” and stop paying all these crooked countries who really hate us to begin with???

    It would be nice if we get out of the world (UN) and tell them what we really think! All these people are crooked and so are our Senators and Congressmen (everyone in political office)!

    I lived in Saudi Arabia for 5 years (Jiddah, Riyadh, KKMC) and I‘ve seen first hand what Women’s Rights are in a muslim country. They have no rights. They can’t even drive cars.

    Why do we care what the UN says or thinks?
    They’re not relevant.
    They should have been disbanded or sent to Europe decades ago.

How many have seen either pictures or videos of women being tortured by insane Muslim terrorist in different Middle Eastern countries? Have you seen Israel torture or even kill women? No!
