Why Was Norway Attacked and Who’s Responsible?

Officials have not yet named those believed to be responsible for today’s bomb attack and youth camp shooting in Norway. Seven have been confirmed killed in the Oslo blast, and unconfirmed reports say several were killed in the shooting 50 miles away.

However, according to reports, there has been celebration on pro-Jihadist online forums in the wake of the attacks.

In a message posted on the password-protected Shumukh al-Islam forum, the militant, who writes under the name of Abu Suleiman al-Nasser, said that the Oslo bombings are “another message arriving in the countries of Europe from the mujahideen (holy warriors).”

Al-Nasser has made several threats to European countries participating in the war in Afghanistan, SITE said.

Another posting by a participant called Emir Grozny said: “Threat against the Prime Minister of Norway. You have only moments to withdraw your soldiers from the grave of Khurasan and if not… you will see blood running in the streets.”

According to the New York Times, a group calling itself Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or Helpers of the Global Jihad, issued a statement claiming responsibility:

A terror group, Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or the Helpers of the Global Jihad, issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack, according to Will McCants, a terrorism analyst at C.N.A., a research institute that studies terrorism. The message said the attack was a response to Norwegian forces’ presence in Afghanistan and to unspecified insults to the Prophet Muhammad. “We have warned since the Stockholm raid of more operations,” the group said, according to Mr. McCants’ translation, apparently referring to a bombing in Sweden in December 2010. “What you see is only the beginning, and there is more to come.” The claim could not be confirmed.

What is Norway’s history with terror that could make it a possible target?

  • New Al Qaeda chief Ayman al Zawahri first singled out Norway in 2003, warning that its participation with U.S. efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan made it a target for attacks.
  • Norway is also a partner in the NATO’s Libya operation, although it has said it will reduce its troops in August.
  • Last July, three immigrants with alleged ties to Al Qaeda were arrested and indicted for planning an attack on targets in Oslo. The planned attacks were believed to be connected with an Al Qaeda plot to blow up New York City subways.
  • Last week, Iraqi-born cleric Mullah Krekar was indicted for threatening Norwegian politicians with death if he is deported. Krekar was connected to terror groups in Iraq before claiming status as a refugee in Norway in 1991. Krekar has praised Bin Laden and called for attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq.
  • In 2006, Norwegian newspapers reprinted the controversial Danish cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad, for which the Norwegian embassy in Syria was attacked. Al Qaeda leaders pledged retaliation. In 2010, a Norwegian paper reproduced the cartoons again, after the home of the cartoonist who drew them was broken into.

Former U.S. ambassador U.N. John Bolton, speaking on Fox News said there seems to be “little doubt” that the attacks are politically motivated.

“It is a classic terrorist effort,” Bolton said. “Without anyone taking responsibility for it or any definitive evidence we can’t say for sure but it sure looks like Islamic terrorism.”

    This bombing is the result or Clinton-era programs to resettle prisoners/terrorists and their extended families in Scandanavia (Norway, Sweden, Denmark) who had been convicted in Israel, Gaza Strip, and West Bank for bombings and shootings. In fact violent crimes rates including rape of blue eyed blonde haired female citizens by the Fanatical Followers of Muhammad the Child Raper have soared in these three aforementioned nations and the Radical Jihadists have a new home. The Muslims refuse to assimilate EVERYWHERE they go and expect social welfare programs , the guarantee of jobs demanding that their new home accommodate their twisted faith.

    These nations with their Liberal social welfare policies are ripe for the picking by the demented, destructive hordes who follow Muhammad and will soon be overwhelmed by terrorists and their minions and they have nobody else to thank but Slick Willy Clinton and his envoys who dealt them a bad hand in the “Peace Accords” negotiated in Israel. NO other nation in the Middle East was willing to accept these convicted terrorists and their enabling families and the Liberals in these nations Norway, Sweden, and Denmark seeking “multiculturalism” sold out their citizens safety for political correctness. Now the Social Justice seeking Liberals will be swept form power just as in Germany and the entire Baltic Sea region returned to a sane Conservative ruling party. We MUST do the same here in the USA or another 9/11 WILL take place.

      Unfortunately, it appears that governments are going to force citizens to take matters into their own hands. I’m not saying that is the right thing to do, but it couldn’t be more apparent.

      I find it somewhat ironic that the people in these countries that devote their entire lives to the bankrupt philosophy of higher education are the ones that fail to grasp the basic tenets of history.

      @Jack 2011: Actually that has been going on for awhile. The state department has been fast tracking Somali and Yemenis into America for years of course to aid in diversity.
      Obama must be impeached along with Holder and prosecuted. The State department should be shutdown and thoroughly investigated.       The government is to blame for its “diversity” policy. In addition to taking in false refugees who are really criminals, they have taken in millions of average, every day Muslims who have the potential for jihad, and Africans who have outrageous numbers of them involved in crime and violence. All it takes are some sparks to ignite their revolutionary fervor.

      How many riots, protests and just plain outspoken hatred against their new countries have we heard from these militant Muslims and Africans? The vast majority weaken their new hosts in many ways, but you never hear of that. Instead the multicultural propagandists are disingenuously screaming, “Diversity is our strength,” though they know full well it is a very serious weakness.

      Just as the war criminals from WWII were tried and convicted at Nuremberg, so too should these diversity dregs be tried and convicted for destroying their own nations by importing crime, poverty, and jihad. By any other name it is still sedition.

      Please everyone, research the Youtube 12 minute dissertation/manifest/movie that the Norwegian shooter made. Sorry, I couldn’t find the exact link. Shouldn’t be hard to find. It was referenced in some of the articles. It explains everything in his words! Excellent English by the way. He hated multi-culturalism in all of Europe and blamed it on Marxists liberals. He felt Europe was being “deconstructed” by mass immigration by Muslims into Europe and these policies pushed by the Marxists. He claimed to be Christian and admired the Crusaders and the Knights Templar. He was a (free)Mason. He went after these liberals who advanced multi-culturalism and by killing the young people at the liberal propaganda youth camp, I think he felt he was striking a blow at their future leadership. The young people at the indoctrination camp were going to be the future policy pushers of multi-culturalism. He hated Muslims, multi-culturalism and liberals. We have to speak out against his methods but his cause, as he articulates it, will speak to many upset with Muslim creep and Sharia acceptance. Make an effort to read what he wrote to gain a real understanding of his views, don’t rely on media hype and headlines. You decide what he was angry about. God bless all his many victims.

    Only when the free world stands together, with all standing firm in the face of this Islamic zealotry, will the ummah get the picture that the world will not sit idle and be dominated into submission with barbarism.

    Think about where we would be today had the people of this country, and others, pulled their collectivist heads out of their hind ends and actually did so.

    It is time to stand up and fight. I am betting a large majority of passive, even Socialist, Norwegians are figuring that out today. As an American of viking descent myself, i caution the Muslims who think what was done today is a god thing. Challenging the viking spirit is not the wisest move to make and this attack will prove to be as misguided as the ones made already.

      Unfortunately, that’s about right. That’s why there were the “Crusades”, whom so many criticize, not knowing their history, putting all the blame on the horrible Christians. In the Bible, God often ordered the Israelites to wipe out certain pagan tribes, including children (that would go to heaven btw) because God knew that was necessary in order to get rid of the problem of them murdering others.       It is going to get to the point -and rightly so- that countries deport muslims from their borders. They have more than enough muslim countries to live in, and frankly their religion of peace is a sham for global terrorism and murder.

      America needs to stop allowing muslims in the country. Not for a work visa…not for a visitors visa…not at all. Then we can begin the job of deporting all that are here before they begin their work in earnest…as terrorist cells and blatant spies.
