Wiccan Prison Chaplain Allegedly Sexually Assaults & Drugs Inmate During Staged Hostage Situation

There’s a disturbing story coming out of Winnebago County, Wisconsin. On Friday, a Wiccan prison chaplain appeared in court to plead not guilty to sexually assaulting an inmate back in August.

Jamyi Witch (yes, her last name actually is “Witch”), 52, is accused of drugging the inmate, then performing sexual acts on him. In addition to this charge, she has also been accused of delivering narcotics. Witch, who is wheelchair-bound, denies these allegations.

She claims she was the one whom was held hostage and that she was sexually assaulted. Outside of the odd facts and circumstances surrounding the case, it’s your basic “he said, she said” scenario. However, there’s more to the story.

Court records indicate that the two knew one another before the incident unfolded and that the entire hostage situation may have been staged. Prosecutors are claiming that Witch and the inmate were plotting a scheme to get themselves transferred to another prison (to clarify, Witch is on staff, but employees also need to go through an official transfer system in most prison systems).

Apparently, a letter that the inmate wrote to his mother was intercepted. In the note, he claimed that Witch had devised the plan to have the two moved. In the letter, he wrote that the chaplain wanted to leave the prison due to threats from co-workers and he wanted to leave after being attacked by three men while in his cell. This, prosecutors say, was the catalyst that led them to implement their plan.

Witch was hired back in 2001 to serve as Oshkosh Correctional Institution’s first-ever Wiccan chaplain. She previously worked at Waupun Correctional Institution, where the inmate also previously served.

Witch is on paid administrative leave and will return to court on January 3 for a pre-trial conference. If convicted, she could face 58 years and six months in prison and $160,000 in fines.

Because there is a pagan/wiccan religion. Not witches on brooms. Smart, caring people who have realized that a Creator can be found in nature, not in the worst atrributes of humankind. This would not have been a story had the woman been Muslim, Christian or Jewish–or rather, the headline would not have included the reference to belief…

Eh, if she were Muslim it probably would still be the same. Christian or Jewish, I agree, not likely. Moral outrage sells; people like to vilify those perceived as “others.”

That said, the Wiccan religion is mostly created in the last century. While practitioners will claim it dates back to feminist cults venerating the Goddess (or Mother Earth), most of the rituals and practices are fairly recent and bear little in common with ancient pagan practices. Most Wiccans don’t realize this, and they’re more than welcome to keep practicing their faith, but they should also know the facts; modern Wicca is very much a creation from the early-to-mid 1900s.

It would be the same as saying that Catholic priests who molest children are indicative of that faith.

      @Alan & @Cape:

No – the problem isn’t with the article – it is about the misleading and twisting. Things like Mr. Hallowell using phrases such as “extreme conservative” to describe a country whose laws are based in Sharia – not factual, and definitely spin. As is including the woman’s religious views in the heading, when no factual evidence is provided in the story to tie the religion to the facts of the story – might as well say, “white Christian rapes disabled person.” – the first subject of the sentence isn’t related to the second subject – it is dishonest. It’s about HONESTY in reporting. The point is – there are many, many, MANY sources to go read from if honesty isn’t a requirement, and up till now, theblaze had worried more about facts than it was about spin – it has slowly reversed itself to where it is comparable to other sites. I’ve been signed up to theblaze since day1 (literally) – the change is pretty evident. The statement comparing the stories to the huffpo is accurate…I can find the same spin there.

I stand corrected, misunderstood your complaint. That being said I disagree with the complaint. While it is true her religious affliation has no bearing on the charges it is relevant to the story since she was a “chaplain” at that prison. I would expect any story regarding misdeeds by a chaplain to mention what type/faith that chaplain was. Doesn’t alter the siutation just completes the designation of chaplain.

Yep – a Wiccan named Witch IS funny!

Appreciate your response. To the point: it is important to the story that we know the perpetrator was serving in a trusted role of authority (chaplain in this case) . I’m still not convinced defining “which” religion is necessary…unless there is a trend pointing this is a common problem with a specific religion, and then it needs stated. To me, it seems like sensationalism – that’s all. Perhaps I keyed off on the wrong story, but since someone else had voiced their frustration with a trend at theblaze…I jumped in – having seen the same trend overall.

      Cheers.

I think it’s very important in multiple aspects:
      1) She gained private access because of her position.
      2) She used the power of that position to abuse someone.
      3) She used the position to get her drugs into the prison.
      4) She used that position to claim she doesn’t have to answer question.
So, IMO, the fact that she’s a witch is what got her the job, allowed her to abuse the position in many ways, and is continuing to be used to protect her from her criminal acts.
      How is that not relevant?

@Urban: I’m not sure I follow you. I mentioned the position of power/authority thing being relevant…does the story change if she were Baptist? Catholic? Agnostic? Gay? Straight? Black? Purple? Blue? White? No – the position of power thing is the only relevant detail…which can be stated without saying she was wiccan. The headline could simply be “Prison Chaplain Allegedly Sexually Assaults & Drugs Inmate During Staged Hostage Situation” and it would contain everything it needed – by adding the word “Wiccan” or “Catholic” or “Baptist” or “whatever” at the beginning, it really just ads spin to appeal to one group or another – to sensationalize the story – especially when the religion in question wasn’t a basis for anything that happen (at least not as the story was provided).

Wiccan is a religious practice, it is not a faith, but the core value in wiccan beliefs is “and do no harm” wiccans have deities much like Catholics have saints, that represent various attributes; strength, courage, wisdom, ect. There is no “pastor” in any wiccan ritual. Essentially wiccans believe in good & evil, and that free will to determine is your right, but if evil is chosen know that any ills you cause come back upon the one causing ill 3 fold ( 3 xs ). Also know that many Christian customs actually come from wiccan/pagan traditions including the calander. Faith is to believe without cause, practice is to be what you believe.

I am not here to defend a witch or Wiccan, I can say I believe all religions and spiritual groups to have nuts in them. Take the word Wiccan off the headlines and you simply have a criminal. It is not the Wiccan word that makes the story, and it should not be taken that way. If so, then are we to think all Catholic Priest molest little boys? All these headline approach does is fuel more hatred from the religious right that have been indoctrinated to believe all other religions, including their own religion but not of their own congregation is in league with the devil or on the wrong path This is like MSNBC when they put up front in a headline… Republican, Tea Party, or Conservatives, etc.

No, hypocrisy has no place – but stating, warning and pointing out the diffeences between what the Bible says and other beliefs which aren’t is not “judging”. I’ve noticed this as a huge detrimental and false teaching that too many Christians believe. It‘s another of satan’s strategies – to keep us quiet. Jesus speaks of first taking care of your own life to get “right” with God before you “judge”, rebuke other Christians – which we are to do. He just warns about judging what‘s in people’s hearts as we don’t know but we certainly can and have to note their lifestyle/actions and know (“judge” if you will) that they are evil when it comes to the will of God/Bible. We have to, in order for us to now not to do them.
When it comes to nonbelievers, when we have the opportunity (as on these message boards), we are to respectfully point these things out b/c many are ignorant of the Scriptures. In fact, we will be judged negatively if we don’t take these opportunities to fulfill the command to go and preach the gospel to all. People can choose to reject or not read – whatever. This is not “hypocrisy” & I fail to see how you come to that conclusion. However, I do see many that are disrespectful. Please re-read the New Testament.

As Christians we do not condemn others. We can, however, point out if someone is doing something that is against the teachings of the bible, which we believe to be God’s truth.

So saying a Wiccan is a witch and is deceived and is NOT following God is not wrong. We can find scripture to support it. And even the Wiccan will say she’s not following God.

We seem to be overlooking one important fact. He was assaulted by 3 men in his cell (I think we ALL know what “assaulted” means in this context), and yet he was still in the same prison. He was a captive, continual rape victim. It is unfortunate, but it seems that this was his only hope of escaping what may be a cause for suicide in his future. I really feel sorry for him. He committed a crime, sure, and prison is where he belongs. But no one deserves to be a captive sex slave just because they made a horrible decision. He’s paying the price, but he is being tortured, so I do not blame either of them for doing this. She was trying to help him get out of an impossible situation. This is precisely why Christians have a holier-than-thou name for themselves. Everyone is entitled to belive what they will. There is NO ONE who knows with 100% certainty that what any religious texts state is true. You go on faith alone. When you spew hatred in the name of your religion, what does that say? LOVEANDBLESSINGS – The word of God is not hatred or bigotry. The fact that you are willing to deny what God says about witchcraft does not make you a loving person, it just makes you someone who is willing to compromise so as to not hurt anyone’s feelings. Sitting back and saying all faiths are the same is a cop out. If you are a Christian, speak the truth and be willing to take the heat for it.
Have you ever read where Jesus said “You will be hated because of me”. Why do you suppose that is? You can call me a bigot and intolerant all day long but it is more loving to tell the truth to someone than lie to them. Telling someone the truth is not condemning them or hating them. Many churches in America don’t teach the Bible anymore because they are afraid of hurting peoples feelings. It is going to become a much more common practice. We do not go by “faith alone” or WWJD slogans, we walk by the Word of God, the Bible. Take it or leave it God gave you free will.

LOVEANDBLESSINGS – That’s a good website for those wishing to be primed for the one world religion. Sometimes tolerance is just another word for deny and compromise. You know you are in the wrong place when you read “We would recommend that readers of the Bible cross out…”. On some level you must know that is not right.

CAPCOD – What I know is that we are here to love one other, to do unto others, to respect each other. What I know is that The Bible has been translated for hundreds of years to fit those in power and their agendas. The Bible is full of contradictions. It’s right there, in black in white. I’m not afraid of a New World Order. I’m not paranoid about what others are trying to do. Because my faith is solid, and my soul is not in harm’s way. I’m not saying to cross out words in The Bible. The point of the link, coming from me, is to show translations and how things can be twisted to have different meanings. Have you ever read The Gospel of Thomas? If you haven’t, I recommend it. Jesus’ words without the distortion.

I’m not angry towards anyone on here, but deeply saddened by so many of the hateful posts. Not yours, as you’ve been respectful. But several others are just, well, so very wrong. No, I’m not some free loving hippie, and I’m not a liberal. That in itself is hysterical if you knew me. However, when I read stories, such as innocent children in Africa being mutilated for being ‘witches’ when they don’t know what that is by Pentacostal priests, the intollerance by so many on our side, yes my side, too, is deeply disturbing.

I appreciate the conversation, it’s always a good thing when communication is civil. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Let’s face it, wiccan and Chaplain don’t go together. Political correctness will get you in trouble every time. She is not a Chaplain, she is a witch, a high priestess of an occult religion. Invite satan in your institution and this is what you get, I’m surprised the guy still has all his body parts.

Lol, a looney tune belief, for sure! I worked years as a correctional officer and I really don’t think any prisoner would report being raped by a woman, but then I saw her. Yep, I don’t blame the guy for reporting her. No normal man would risk more years in prison for sex with that! Course, different strokes for different folks!

Does she think she is a psychologist? Dispensing drugs without a license will get you arrested most every time. Don’t forget to take the broom away, wouldn’t want any escapes.

Did you mean a psychiatrist? Psychologists are not medical doctors and cannot prescribe medication; those would be psychiatrists.

Sir Bedevere: What makes you think she’s a witch?
Peasant: Well, she turned me into a newt!
      Sir Bedevere: A newt?
      Peasant: ….I got better.

Wicca is no where near a faith, it’s more like islam, it’s the structure and the life style.

How do you define a faith? I‘d say it’s at least more “faith” based than, say, Buddhism or Taoism, both of which I’ve seen described more as lifestyles than a religious framework. Wiccans have actual rituals and presumably religious ceremonies.

Modern “Wiccans” are mostly based off concepts created almost entirely from scratch in the past two centuries, although they’ll claim to be based off millennia-old lost religions. Kinda like Mormons, actually.

Actually not. Wicca has no structure at all. We have a few principles but no commandments and certainly no command to wage Jihad against anyone.
