Wife of Mexican Drug Lord Crosses the Border to Give Birth to Twins on U.S. Soil

Wife of Mexican Drug Lord Crosses the Border to Give Birth to Twins on US Soil

Joaquin Guzman is head of the Sinaloa Cartel (the most powerful drug trafficking organization in the world), one of the world’s most wanted men – and now the father of two American citizens.

The L.A. Times reports that Guzman’s 22-year-old wife crossed the border in July in order to give birth to twin girls at a hospital in Los Angeles County on August 15. Following the birth, the multibillionaire fugitive’s wife and children returned to Mexico.

“Name of the Father” was left blank on the birth certificates, but U.S. law enforcement confirm the children‘s mother is Guzman’s wife Emma Coronel, a former beauty queen who already holds U.S. citizenship, thus making the children eligible for U.S. Citizenship. The 54-year-old drug lord nicknamed “El Chapo” (Shorty), married Coronel in a lavish ceremony on her eighteenth birthday. The L.A. Times explains why Coronel was not apprehended when she crossed the border:

“U.S. federal agents apparently kept tabs on Emma Coronel even before she crossed the border at Calexico, through her hospital stay and until she left the country to return to Mexico. Although her husband tops most-wanted lists on both sides of the border, Coronel was not arrested because there are no charges against her, the law enforcement official said.

While she no doubt could have provided useful information on her husband’s whereabouts, drug agents have said the problem with apprehending Guzman has less to do with finding him and more with how Mexican troops can seize him. He surrounds himself with enormous bands of well-armed security and tends to stick to isolated, mountainous regions that are difficult to reach, agents say.”

U.S. authorities have placed a $5-million bounty on Guzman’s head and allege that he and the Sinaloa cartel control the majority of cocaine and marijuana trafficking into the U.S. from Mexico and Colombia, according to MSNBC:

The 5′6″ Guzman was arrested in 1993, but escaped prison in 2001 by bribing guards to hide him in a laundry basket. Guzman has been ranked by Forbes as one of the richest and most powerful men in the world.

I would agree that in the case of all of the narcotrafficante kingpins, use of a Predator drone is entirely appropriate.
Also, folks need to keep in mind, that his children born here in the Estados Unidos are indeed American Citizens-now. A little thing called the Constitution guarantees that by their birth on American soil. Like it or not, they are indeed US citizens. I KNOW we have to go by the “letter of the law,” but it is pretty bad that intent of the law is not covered in some way. Seems the mother’s “rice husband” was worth much more to her than either herself or her children! I’m not saying they are in danger from their father, but anyone who is the next top “drug lord to be” can rise a notch or more by hitting the current ruler “close to home.” Therefore, definitely in danger!

Had the children been born in Mexico there’s the distinct possibility they could not have been afforded U.S. citizenship knowing their father’s background. It was important to her (for whatever reason) that those children be born on U.S. soil, thus ensuring they received U.S. birth certificates and citizenship. THIS is why she came here to give birth to her children. She left right after her hospital stay to return to Mexico. CLEARLY she doesn’t “behave” like a U.S. citizen. CLEARLY she is abusing the 14th amendment and her proximity to a drug lord is further insult to this country. Her case warrants review of her status and actions. But please…keep defending her and her actions.

OK, if the mother chooses to return to Mexico, let her. However, as American Citizen’s her twins come under the protection of Child Service (if they only cared to protect instead of ignore. . . ). The children must remain in the U.S. for their safety, they will have the rights of U.S. citizens, but they will have the responsibilities of U.S. citizens (once we get rid of all this “free stuff” going to just anyone).

How did (newborn) citizens of the U.S. leave the country without passports?

And, should one or the other at an adult age choose to return to Mexico, she (the child now adult) relinquishes her U.S. citizenship with that decision. Heck with this “do as you please” rights!

Locked you don’t know citizenship law apparently. If you are born in a foreign country the parents have to still file for citizenship, unless they are born on a US military base. Just because your mother is a citizen does not mean you suddenly are a citizen as well. The reason she crossed the border was to guarantee they would be citizens. Now they will have a free pass to come and go doing business for their dad.

Apparently you don’t, actually. Born on foreign soil, the children of a US citizen still gain US citizenship themselves provided they meet the conditions of our citizenship policies. Assuming this woman spent at least one year of her life in the US, any children she has without a father on the birth certificate would be US citizens. The government needs to be informed and make sure the laws are followed, but legally, yes, they will be US citizens.

Obama precedent will make them eligible!

Wouldn’t it be great if you could undo the laws Obama passed, cancel the debt he caused, and return trillions to our Treasury? Well you can!

Politically disregarded Constitution, Art. 2, Sec. 1, “No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible … .”

Exempting a citizen (the minimum requisite then was US birth to a US father) from being a natural born citizen, proves they are not equal. Only US birth to US citizen parents (plural) is greater, thus defining a natural born citizen; as confirmed by Supreme Court binding precedent in Minor v. Happersett, 1874.[1]

Obama’s Kenyan father precluded his eligibility! Impeachment isn’t applicable, the damage remains and the Senate may not cooperate. The solution is to prosecute Obama (aka Barry Soetoro, Harrison J. Bounel, Barack Soebarkah) for using an alleged fraudulent social security number and birth certificate to usurp the Presidency.[2]

Then if he resigns or is later pardoned, we can still undo the damage. Demand your state and federal elected officials prosecute Obama now!

That makes sense to me. What do you think?

Anchor babies would have been US citizens anyway; the mother was a legal citizen.

I think the Blaze is negligent or culpable of the rampant misunderstanding of the facts in this case. Saying that she crossed the border clearly brings up the idea that she is not a citizen. Whoever says that of a citizen? If I go to Cananda and then come back to the States, technically I am crossing the border, but how is that fact worth mentioning?

They could have said “US wife of drug lord crosses the border…”

Nickname should have read El Cheapo!

Deport the trash, oh wait, she went back to Mexico, the **** hole on earth! What… are ya gonna tell me how great Mexico is? I don’t even drink their beer. But if “you” do, you have to put a piece of lemon/fruit in their beer to cover up the piss taste! Cheers.

Gotta‘ love that liberal interpretation of the 14th Amendment’s citizenship clause….

Does Guzman’s newest offspring meet both of the following conditions?:

    1. “All persons born or naturalized in the United States”
    2. “subject to the jurisdiction thereof”

No, they meet the “children of a legal US citizen who since 1954 has spent at least one year living on US soil” part of citizenship requirements.

The new mother is a US citizen.

OK everybody, calm down. These kids may have been citizens anyway even if born in Mexico because the mother’s a citizen. She may only have come to give birth in the US because the hospitals are better.

The real problem is why she wasn’t apprehended. If he‘s such a wanted criminal on both sides of the border why isn’t she a target as well, not for prosecution but as a material wtiness? It just seems like there’s no common sense whatsoever down on the border.

” If he‘s such a wanted criminal on both sides of the border why isn’t she a target as well, not for prosecution but as a material wtiness?”

If there person in question hasn‘t been arrested you can’t legally hold someone as a material witness. Without a court case you have no legal need for a material witness. If they were watching her so closely, I’m sure they could have nabbed her for anything; even jaywalking or a busted tail-light. Looks like she obeyed the law; there’s no legal cause to hold her.

Under the Bush and Obama Patriot Act they could have arrested her and held her indefinately due to her association with a terrorist group. There are cases of such arrests currently. This was clearly Obama, Big Sis and Holder looking the other way as to not upset the cartel they are selling guns too, and allowing for the mass import of drugs. Makes you wonder how much campaign money is coig in with those drugs….

Not to poo-poo the story, but the woman was an American citizen. There was no basis upon which to arrest her; and even if she was arrested, her children would still be born long before she could be extradited. Furthermore, because the mother was a US citizen, as long as she had spent at least one year any time prior to the birth of her children in the US, they would become citizens.

So I guess the story is a US citizen crossed the border to give birth, presumably for the better healthcare in the US compared to Mexico. Aka, non-story.

You may now commence with your rage, Blazers.

Locked–get over yourself and your false argument. The issue is who she is married to. It’s bad enough we let terrorists walk through the border as it is, (and then let them out on bond to roam the U.S. streets) but at the very least, her direct connection to this criminal should have been examined. Is she guilty of anything? Probably not, but she is in direct proximity to a huge criminal. It’s a huge issue, and your strawman argument is a joke. Commence with your stupidity troll.

If she’s not guilty of anything -you can’t legally hold her.- The “huge issue” is based on nothing because there‘s nothing the government can do if someone hasn’t broken the law. The government is reigned in by the laws, and sometimes even law enforcement gets bitten by them; or do you want the police to break US laws, detain people illegally, and completely destroy any chance of using the evidence in a court?

Come on, this isn’t trolling, this is common sense; the article is presented to make us instantly think “immigration, anchor babies, drug war, GRRRR!” and see red. It’s only closer reading that you realize, oh, the government had their hands tied in this case and the woman did nothing wrong.

“as long as she had spent at least one year any time prior to the birth of her children in the US, they would become citizens.”

You are wrong on the law here. She would have to be a qualifying citizen to pass her citizeship to her children automatically, which means she would have had to spend FIVE years in the US, two of them after her 14th birthday. The ONE year provision is if the child is born in a US “possession”, like Puerto Rico or Guam.

Still, odds on she qualifies so the anchor baby argument is moot.

      @Isles,

You might be right: I was looking at this chart in particular:
      http://shusterman.com/uscitizenshipchart2.html
for children born out of wedlock (no father on on the birth certificate) and after 1952:
“Mother had one year of continuous physical present in the U.S. or OLP at any time prior to child’s birth.”

Although she’s married, if the birth certificate has no father listed I believe it would still be equivalent to out of wedlock, right?

Locked….good effort. I agree that we should all read the article before making posts. I am a conservative that believes in a country of LAWS. Laws are made to be enforced and if they don’t work, then repeal them or change them, but ENFORCE them. And sometimes is seems like the bad guys are getting away, but that is what helps keep the “good guys” from getting thrown in jail unjustly.
She apparently broke no laws and therefore could not be arrested. I think this just proves to the liberals (especially in Hollywood) that are partaking of Mr. Guzman’s exports that people still like and want this country! All of them constantly scream how bad we are (especially our health care), but isn’t it crazy that this suspected criminal sends his wife here to have a children and other world celebs and rulers come here for their care too. Diplomats have their children here for the same options of citizenship.
I also agree with others that it is time to CHANGE the current immigration laws and make them fit the world of 2011+.

Kickagrandma, you can’t lose your citizenship unless you renounce it. Even then the act has to be verified.

It‘s unAmerican to say someone isn’t a citizen because we don’t like what she does. Even murderers in this country retain their citizenship, and thus all the rights that go with it, like the right to a fair trial, etc.
