Wild Hail Mary Pass Lands in Fallen Receivers’ Lap

Boise State Hail Mary Pass Lands in Fallen Receivers Lap | Kellen Moore | Matt Miller

If you have ever played defensive back you know that the most important thing to keep in mind when a quarterback has launched a Hail Mary is to knock the ball straight down rather than give in to the urge to try and pull it in for an interception. Boise State Quarterback Kellen Moore’s pass to receiver Matt Miller at the end of the second quarter during a game against Wyoming Saturday shows why you must always “bat the ball down:”

The play put Boise St. up a touchdown going into halftime during what would become a 36-14 route in favor of Boise. Do you think the play is luck for the offense or a mental breakdown by the secondary?

Either way, Doug Flutie-wannabes are  always entertaining to watch.

Organized Professional Sports are the opiate of the masses.

There should be NO taxpayer-supported stadiums or tax money spent for athletic teams after college. If this business is so lucrative, then let private businesses build their own infrastructure.

BSU stands for Boise State University…sounds like you’ve found your own form of opiate. I probably shouldn’t say that…BSU broncos, Denver Broncos….but then again Boise is in Idaho…guess my opinion could be valid…

They got NCAA sanctions because they let prospective recuits sleep on the floor of some students room. Another got a 1990 Toyota with 170,000 miles on it, but they have no one or 2 star recuits, so I guess that a 1990 Toyota would be an unreasonable gift.
No sex parties, no freebies, fewer scholarships, and the draw of the Potatoe state; how do they win any games? Just lucky passes? Perhaps just old fashioned upright, moral, disciplined, strict coaching.

If your gonna write about college football, best to stick with the SEC. Boise St. is always going to be a second rate team. Their difficulty of schedule is ranked 58th. Probably behind Rutgers.

Of course the real game winning hail mary pass was a couple of weeks ago when Michigan State played Wisconsin. MSU plays Boise next fall- but I have an odd feeling these teams may meet before that. BSU- MSU would be a good Bowl. In an era when teams like Nike, Inc (oops- I mean Oregon) are worshipped by ESPN and the other sports sycophants- it is nice to see BSU do well. Good luck- unless you face MSU, of course!

I absolutely love Boise state. Their Quarterback, is one of the best Quarterbacks I have ever seen in college football. Sure, this was a very lucky play…. that’s why they call it a Hail Mary pass. But in four years, Kellen Moore has only been behind at halftime, Once. And that happened two weeks ago in the 1 point loss to TCU. He has only lost 3 games in 4 years by a combined total of 5 points. He is the winningest college football quarterback of all time, by the end of this season he will have won 49 of 52 games in his career. (The next best was Colt McCoy from Texas who had 45 wins. He now plays for the Browns in the NFL). Kellen Moore has surpassed the 3000 yard passing mark each of his 4 years playing. Both of those marks are going to be nearly impossible to beat unless they extend the seasons in the future. And as unlikely as it seems, he will have only gone to one Big BCS Bowl game in all 4 years… that was 2 years ago against TCU in the Fiesta Bowl, which he won.

Kellen is a great football player, an excellent student, and a fine young man. And he will be overlooked for the Heisman trophy because he “only” plays for Boise State.

Im from Idaho as well, I love BSU, what I don’t understand is how you get a 4 loss team from the big east who is unranked playing in a bcs game and bsu ends up in Sandiego at the poinseta bowl for a million bucks, playing predicted LA tech or Nevada. What a total crock! By seasons end they will be ranked as high as 4th if Ok state and if Clemson can beat VT again. Stanford is not going to win the pack 12 so I don’t see the point in not letting BSU in as an at large bid for a BCS game. Every thing I have seen has them in this crumby bowl in Sandiego. I agree last year was thier shot at winning the national championship, this year I don’t think they have what it takes, but I still would like to see them play against a VT or a Wisconsin or Arkansas. They deserve it and the fan base will be at the bowl game. Uconn lost money in their bowl last year! The big east should not get automatic bids to anything! Just pray for a miracle.

If the intended reciever had been knocked down by the defenders, wouldn’t that be pass interference?
Isnt the penalty for pass interference an automatic reception?
It is my understanding , that you can be knocked down, get back up and resume playing provided you do not have possesion of the ball. Nobody that was “down” had possesion of the ball until it landed in his lap.
The ball was live and in motion and was not “down” until he had possesion of it, if it had bounced off his helmet and been cought by a defender who was standing it would still have been live and the defender could have ran with it provided he was not in his own end zone for a touchback.
      Perfectly legal catch.

I’m a Boise fan, but work Sat right now so I didn’t get to see that. Going to go look it up right now. Thanks for the tip. BTW Boise state plays solid, stellar FB and apparently it comes from the top down. Coach has been humble and consistent on the field and it’s good to know he requested that the military be honored. It seems to fit the profile. Class–can’t buy it.
