Wild Pics Capture Grizzly Chasing Bison in Yellowstone Park

When the pictures first surfaced some in Montana doubted they could even be real.
But now the photographer has surfaced and he’s talking to KTVQ-TV. Alex Wypyszinski took the pictures last April after dropping his wife off for work:
“I thought it was a horse and carriage,” said Wypyszinski. “That was the kind of noise that I heard.”
By the time he turned around, the two fuzzy brown images were racing quickly toward him.
Wypyszinski pulled out his camera quickly, thinking he was going to catch two moose racing down the highway.
He quickly learned he was mistaken.
“I thought I was having a hallucination or something,” said Wypyszinski. “I couldn’t believe what that buffalo looked like.”
It was a bison, badly burned from an encounter with one of the numerous hot spots in Yellowstone National Park.
The sight of such an injured bison alone is rare, but what Wypyszinski saw next was once in a lifetime.
“Never, ever, ever,” said Wypyszinski. “I’ve seen plenty of bear, and more buffalo. But I’ve never seen anything like that before.”
Here’s part of an audio interview with Wypyszinski:

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 9:29pmYes the poor animal is suffering lets put it down, are they that ******* stupid. IT outruns the bear(not an easy task) to be shot by rangers. The world is still a wild place. If that bear was hungry enough it would eat any human it could catch. We need to take care of the people in this world, and quit worrying about our piss in the ocean carbon footprint. Plenty of polar bears, plenty of grizzley. tons of carbon from all over the world, including natural sources, LIKE VOLCANOS.

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 4:35pmIt was more humane to shoot the buffalo calf than to let the grizzly rip it up while it was still alive. I hope they did leave it for the bear to eat so it would not seek out another animal to feed on. It’s animal nature and that is what keeps the balance.

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 5:36pmIt was more humane to shoot it because it was suffering and dead on it’s feet anyway. You may not be used to looking at critters, but that calf is really skinny and for whatever reason has sores all over it. Spare it a slow death, (if not caught by the bear), and let the hungry bear get a head start on gaining weight for next winter.

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 4:26pmWe my as well start putting cameras in the woods. Where the govt. can make sure that animals start behaving more friendly to each other and to “prevent the hating”. Where would we be without the “govt. blessing” of making sure that all creatures have the same basic rights. Quite obvious that the moose was in “dire need of a takedown”. Due to the “severe injuries” he already had “prior” to his “successful escape”. I’m glad the govt. could make a “rational decision” regarding the moose’s future. It was quite evident that the moose had “gone rogue” and was putting itself, the bear, the park, and quite possibly all of mankind into “severe danger” with it’s selfish attitude. On the other hand, why has the govt. not charged the cameraman with the failure of being a good samaritan. He actually failed twice. Failed to compassionately kill the moose. Which would have saved the bear the agony of defeat. Let alone being winded. How dare this bear suffer! The crimes committed here by all should be a lesson to everyone. The moose, bear, steam vent, photographer, global warming and timing of the event should all be charged. That no amount of interference is ever enough to prevent such stupidity. May all creatures be protected by the inequality of nature by the security of govt. law. Soon ants won’t have to worry about mound erosion due to the govt. outlawing wind. (workers of the world unite!) Wind manufacturers will be forced to redirect wind at the proper altitude for all windmills. People who fly kites will be fined for stealing wind. It will all be harmoniously controlled for the benefit of all…. (except for moose)

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 3:35pmYou Can’t Fix Stupid – but you Can Vote ‘Em Out !!!
Our great country was founded by and for the citizens of the thirteen colonies. It was designed to insure that a central government was controlled and limited by representatives of those citizens. It was given a limited amount of power, with many checks and balances, to secure the rights and freedoms for its citizens. They were making sure that an American Government would and could not become as Britian had. England enacted laws and taxes on their American subjects, but without allowing the colonies a say in their government. Ignoring the will of the people of America, they bullied and took away what limited rights they had and tried to force them to comply. Sound familiar? Yes, we don’t have to look far across the Atlantic at a despotic leader, we have only to look at the Oval Office in Washington, D. C. and to those whom we had entrusted the liberties of the people and the country. Our representatives, Senate and the House, are there to represent the will of the people. Instead, they have consistently lied to their constituents, both during campaigns and when in office. They have consistently robbed the American people, not only of their money, but also by stealing their liberties, little by little. The incumbent office holders allow themselves to be above the law, they allow themselves to steal by back-room corrupt deals and the like. They ignore the very people who put them in office, they even resort to passing laws, under cover of darkness. They hide laws and corrupt deals in the midst of thousand of pages of laws. This has always been a trick of unethical lawyers. Their mindset is to bog down any opposition by inudating them with mountains of paperwork. Then, they laugh and call the people stupid and ignorant, or worse! No doubt, I could go on and on. Their lack of character, morals and ethics makes them unfit to be employed anywhere, let alone entrusted with the security, freedom, and economic growth of this great country. They have taken your freedom to worship, especially targeting Christianity. They have tried to rewrite the American history, to further their agendas, just like the Moslems continue to do with Israel.
Soon after deciding what sort of Government America was to become, that very question was asked of Benjamin Franklin. In reply Franklin said, “A Republic….if we can keep it”. This is a question that should be upon the lips of all true American patriots. If we can’t or more correctly, if we won’t, then we don’t deserve it. The choice is up to us, the American people, and the answer should be and must be yes we will!
You’re probably asking how do we insure that we will keep this nation a free Republic. Oh, we voted for only those who promised no more taxes, no more spending, etc., etc. Of course they all were proven to be liars again (or should I have said they were just not quite forthcoming or perhaps they were a little disingenuious?). Then we did the “best of the two evils” choice. This was no different than the “Magician’s Choice” trick! We now know that there is no difference between Republicans and the Democrats when it comes to which is telling the truth. Neither has the best interest of America at heart, probably not even in mind! Their goal is simply to acquire power, money, more power and more money while doing and saying anything to remain in office.
So what is the answer? They don’t listen when the people, overwhelmingly, protest and tries to voice their opposition. So the American people need to get their UNDIVIDED attention. How? WE THE PEOPLE, must vote any and all incumbents out of office. It doesn’t matter if they are better than most. If they haven’t been part of the solution, then they are part of the problem. THEY MUST KNOW AND WE MUST LET THEM KNOW THAT GOVERNMENT WILL NO LONGER BE RUN BY ROUGUE LAWYERS AND OPPORTUNISTS, PROGRESSIVES (AKA SOCIALISTS), ETC. THEY ARE NOTHING MORE THAN MODERN-DAY CARPETBAGGERS OR WANNA-BE DICTATORS. THEY MUST BE EDUCATED TO THE FACT THAT THEY WILL BE VOTED OUT AGAIN AND AGAIN, UNTIL THEY LEARN THAT OUR REPRESENTATIVES ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO RUN THEIR OWN VERISON OF CRIME, INC.
AND THOSE THAT ARE ELECTED TO OFFICE, BUT CONTINUE TO DO WHAT IS BEST FOR THEIR OWN BENEFIT WILL SOON LEARN THEY WILL HAVE ONLY ONE TERM IN OFFICE.
We, the people, need to lobby our newly elected representatives to enact new laws to insure ALL our freedoms, our security, etc. Enact laws that ethical or criminal behavior of representatives will be prosecuted swiftly and severly, with no possibility of any pardon…not by a state Governor nor by a President! Enact laws or amendments to limit a President to one term only, ensuring that any damage to our country will not be as damaging as is obvious with this Government. Further limit the terms of our Representatives, both in the Senate and the House. Imperative to limit the term of all Supreme Court Justices to no more than an eight year term and make an amendment that the justices can no longer re-interpret the Constitution, but uphold the laws as it was written and intended by the original framers.
So, the bottom line is this: unless the American people get the undivided attention of those in government…when you and your family members are homeless and hungry or at the very least jobless…remember, you have only yourselves to blame.
THE ONLY WAY TO INSURE THAT YOUR FUTURE REPRESENTATIVES WILL LISTEN TO ITS CONSTITUENTS IS VOTE OUT ALL INCUMBENTS!!! FROM THAT POINT ON, EACH REPRESENTATIVE MUST KNOW WE WILL VOTE THEM OUT AGAIN AND AGAIN UNTIL WE HAVE RESPONSIBLE REPRESENTATIVES THAT UNDERSTAND THEY ARE THERE FOR THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE.
You Can’t Fix Stupid – but you Can Vote ‘Em Out !!!

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 3:24pmWhat’s the big deal hear. That small yearling calf was sick and emaciated from a long winter of scrounging for food in an area that is so mis-managed by park officials that many Buffalo die of stavation. (notice the snow in April) It’s the natural order of things for Grizzlies to feed on the week and dying, as this calf was. Surely the Grizzly came back to feed on the dispatched Buffalo later. Shooting the calf was the humane thing to do for it and the bear so he could partake in his first big meal of the season. If the moronic rangers didn’t remove it. After all the Grizzly just woke up from hibernating all winter and is really hungry himself. That’s probably the only reason the Buffalo got away from the Grizzly. The bear is weakened from months without nurishment. I question the calf’s wounds. Because they are scattered around the body and the hair removed, they don’t look much like burns to me. My first impression is that it looks like the bear got a hold of the calf at one point and did some damage. But the wounds don’t show any tissue damage, just hair loss. I personally don’t see a “hot spot” just taking the hair off in patches like that and leaving healthy looking skin. Curious! I have seen mange on livstock and pets that looked similar to that. Much to do about an every day acurance in the Rockies. They are some great pictures and the man who took them was fortunate to witness it.
Report Post »staythecourse
Posted on October 30, 2010 at 6:03pmI agree. It is the way of the wild and the bear was thinning the herd. And yes, the wounds look more like some sort of a disease process causing hair loss as opposed to burns, but it is hard to say.

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 7:17pmSays Rational Man: “It was more humane to shoot it because it was suffering and dead on it’s feet anyway.”
Respectfully disagree with you. That Bison outran a hungry griz. If it’s healthy enough to survive, it’s healthy enough to be given the chance. I’ve seen animals of all types recover from some pretty devistating injuries. Like hunters who are too incompetant to zero a rifle before they hunt. I’ve seen plenty of three legged deer and Elk in my day and I say let the Bison live. If it can’t survive it will get taken down. I have been wounded and suffering but I chose to live and survive in spite of the suffering.
You have no right to make that decision for someone or something else. I find that type of thinking extremely reprehensible and arrogant.
Someday the government might decide that it might be more humane to put you down for any number of reasons. You sure you want to go down that road?
No offense sir, you sound like a reasonable man. I speak for myself from experience.

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 11:19pmNo offense sir, but you ought to have a better distinction between humans and animals. Not the same.
Report Post »In my opinion the calf had an affliction other than being burned. Those wounds do not look like burns to me. If you look closely there is no singed hair around the wounds and no burnt or blackened skin. The hair is falling out. In one pic of the calf running away you can see the hair waving in the breeze as if it’s about to fall off. The calf has mange or something else that is causing the hair ot fall out. It’s sick,IMO. Also it is spring and the calf is very skinny and there is still snow on the ground. Knowing the way the Buffalo are mis-managed in Yellowstone and that lots of them starve as a result of poor range management, (over grazing), I believe the calf had little chance to live. Why did the rangers shoot it? Maybe because they agree with me that it‘s sick and in poor condition and should be put out of it’s misery. So why not feed a hungry Grizzly? It‘s humane to put an animal out of it’s misery. It’s a sin to kill a human who has a soul.

Posted on November 1, 2010 at 1:13am@ Rationalman, I don’t think that you quite understand nature. If the bison was truly injured and going to die, then let it. Shooting it was a waste of ammunition, and could lead to lead poisoning in the bear or whatever ate the animal. We should all learn to let well enough alone and stop letting our morals judge nature. Nature was here before us, and God willing, it will be working long after our species dies out or moves on.

Posted on November 1, 2010 at 5:07am@ SGTB;
Thanks for that tip about lead poisoning. Guess I been lucky for the last 35yrs for not getting lead poisoning from all those critters I shot and then ate. You should let Michele Obama know about that threat to public health and safety so she can put a stop to it right away!! But then, I don’t think she cares about a bunch of “hillbilly” hunters and their families……..never mind.
By the way, this ain’t “Dances With Wolves”! Wildlife has to be managed if we are going to live on this continent with them. Especially in a Natl. Park that is surounded by public and private land. Thinning the herd by a merciful dispatching of a sick/wounded Buffalo calf and helping a Grizzly get what was probably his first good meal of the year is not a bad thing. I am a strong believer in measured restraint in messing with wildlife. Much more so that the government that mis-manages Yellowstone. But there is nothing wrong with this……In my ignorant, lead poisoned opinion.

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 3:14pmUNTAMEABLE KATE loves Mother Nature, “Seemed like a pretty spirited beast, maybe an antibiotic dart would have been better.”
Probably not needed but certainly a more humane act. Buffalo hide is significantly thick. Impossible to truly tell from photographs but those injuries do not look “severe” as reported. Disturbing, yes, but not life threatening.
I have branded my share of cows and steers which causes no true injury, a bit of pain but no lasting detrimental effects. Buffalo hide is two or three times as thick as cow and steer hide. While there is no tissue cracking open nor bleeding, a buffalo would survive those burns.
Odds are high this bear “sensed” something wrong with this buffalo, a member of a larger herd, and this bear followed instinctive instructions of Mother Nature. This is natural culling. With winter coming on, this bear needs to pack away as much food as possible for denning hibernation.
Hopefully this buffalo was left in place for feeding, and hopefully a feeding bear will not ingest narcotics in the flesh of this dead buffalo. If removed, this may cause more harm to carcass scavenging bears than harm done by killing this buffalo.
Park rangers should have let Mother Nature run her course.

If it was destined to succumb to infection, it would’ve been a meal for scavengers. If it’s weakness were to slow it, it would’ve been a meal for wolves or a bear. If it were to live despite the odds, it would’ve been father to more buffalo. The rangers should have left well enough alone and not used the ethos of a pet owner for the natural world they are to charged to preserve.

@Ilikai – How do we know it didn’t have long to live. That comment is speculation and opinionated. It had enough life in it to lose the bear, so who‘s to say it didn’t have the “WILL” to keep living. Posted on October 30, 2010 at 9:22pmOr how about this idea… have Cass Sunstein go into the woods and try to nudge the bears. You know…. make sure that everywhere the bear goes he’s there to place a pile of berries in front of every buffalo. We can put bacon in his pockets but just not tell him about it too.

You bring NOTHING to any of these disscussion, oh and you’re not fooling anyone. And I will always be here to expose your sorry ass to any NEW people that visit this site. Because everyone that is already here knows you for the fraud you are. Soros troll.
But one thing is for sure the tea partiers will take back control of at least the House and hopefully the senate so your god Barack Hussein Obama can’t jam thru any more of his unpopular BS bills.
You can watch any of your lib-tard control go byebye after Nov.2. ..and after 2 more years, byebye BHO.
So matty go tell your union bosses that you want to pay more union dues because you guys need as much money as you can for campaign ads. lol

Oh I’m sorry little matty, what did you say? I was out having fun tonight while you were in your mom’s basement typing to me. lol
You’re all done. All washed up. You lying liberals really show your true colors by coming on here and lying about who you really are. That’s why you and your ilk are losing come Nov. 2nd.

Posted on October 31, 2010 at 4:57amMy money’s on the bear (no I didn’t read the article). Other than that I only have one thing to say. How much does Soros pay you per post Matty? I can only assume as you haven’t traded in the Matty for something a little more adult, you’re about 19, still living at home with Mommie. Your probably yelling at her to bring you the ketchup for your Manwhich as we speak. I’d lay off the milk though. You don’t want to be know as Fat Fat Matty do ya? Be sure and wipe your hands before you get back to that keyboard to get in your quota for the day.

Do you have any idea what it means for the party out of power to take control of one body of congress??
This will only go to prove that our movement is a new and unstoppable force in politics, and not just the same old far right christian wing of the republican party that comes out every couple of years.
Next week there will be no stopping us.
