Wild Vid: British Cop Gets Hit by Speeding Car & Still Chases Down Crook

A police officer in Surrey, England, arrested a man who had struck him at high speed with a stolen car only moments before.

Sky News reported on the incident Tuesday, in which police officer Dan Pascoe set up a road block, and was then struck by the stolen vehicle he meant to capture.

Despite being flung into the air as the stolen car careened off his vehicle, Officer Pascoe set off on a foot race with the suspect and tasered him before collapsing. Assisting officers on the scene then arrested the suspect.

Inspector Chris Colley, Pascoe’s boss, gave tremendous credit to his officers, saying that:

‘the officers, particularly PC Pascoe, had to react extremely quickly and despite the shock and possible injuries they may have sustained during the collision they were determined not to let the suspect get away.’

The suspect pleaded guilty to charges of dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and resisting arrest and received a 23 month sentence.

OC, ca. cops have the worst attitudes!! Maybe it’s just that they are frustrated over being investigated every time they arrest a wet back, but boy do they have a “I have a gun” attitude :(

Too bad the Bobbies don’t carry fire arms… This way he could have saved the locals a few hundred grand in tax dollars over the long haul. I realize that is a seriously harsh statement but my thinking here is that if the criminal does not care about the people he tries to kill (as you just saw in the crash), then said criminal knowingly forfeits his life.
18 years ago my father killed an armed robber in Tx during a home invasion. The robber was high on Cocaine and was looking to rob them for money to fuel his freebase addiction.
Not a day goes by that my father doesn’t think about that incident and he has nightmares constantly. He regrets being in that situation, but despite his pain and agony over killing the thug, he’s stated that he would do the exact thing over again if it meant protect my mothers life (as he did that day). He hates what he did but my mother is still around to make him dinner every night. I still have a mother I can call every weekend. My nieces and nephews have two grand parents still around to love them.

That brave officer certainly has determination, skill and cajones to do what he did. Ge certainly DOES warrant a commendation. At least he had a taser, but they should be armed as well in this day and age. That tiny vehicle used as a police unit is also scary. Nothing like a Crown Vic(with the fire suppression system) instead of those micro-cars. Finally, 23 months for attempted vehicular homicide of a LEO is a joke. No wonder there is no respect for the law there(or here in the liberal jurisdictions as well).

Yeah, I see QBs being hit by cars all the time, and then they jump right up and make the tackle fifty yards downfield. Oh wait, that was this cop, the quarterbacks usually get hit be a 250 lb guy and then get up slowly and limp to the huddle where they curse out the blocker who let the guy through. Football players are tough, but this cop is tougher. And you are a jerk.

Yep, they need guns in the UK. On a completely unrelated note, homicide rates in America are 4 times higher in than in the UK, and firearm homicide rates are 40 times higher in America than in the UK. Obviously this is in no way connected to the availability of guns in the UK relative to America.

@ BLKOLD7 Those homicide rates are based on per 100,000 population, not on actual homicides in Amercia v actual homicides in the UK.

it goes both ways commonsenseguy, here in Ohio the new republicans (and democrats) gleefully passed a bill lowering sentencing on all “non violent” criminals, which includes drug dealers, meth addicts, crack addicts ( they lowered the sentencing for crack too) heroin addicts, thieves, drunken fools etc and now they are dragging their feet on making bath salts (the kind you buy at Arab stores, not for a bath at all) illegal. All of this to save Joe taxpayer about twelve bucks a year.

We will pay for it in the end, all of us who don’t live in gated communities anyways, regular working people.

I never said death. Just “freeze or I’ll shoot!” disable him, by shooting him in the leg. He DID almost kill the cop with his car, or does that matter, Europe trash?
The reason he thought he could run was that he KNEW the guy didn’t have a gun. They think twice about running in the states, or at least in some places they do. Places NOT like Europe.

The Blaze censors are working hard today. So let me rephrase what I said the first time. It sounds soke some of you are advocating police violence, police intimidation, etc, evn when it is absolutely uncalled for. Shooting a fleeing suspect in the back? Are you kidding me? SInce when does fleeing deserve a death sentence at the hands of the police? Seems to me some of you are receiving your police state training very well. You think police violence is justified just because they are the police. The perp in the film wasn’t trying to kill that cop. Looked like an accident to me. But reguardless, you would be right at home with the Preditor Cops in Canton Ohio by the way it sounds.

@CaptainCrunch …. There is a reason we have fleeing felon laws …….. I would much rather have a cop shoot a fleeing felon in the back than wait for him or her to make it to another person, an innocent person, and take that person hostage and escalate the situation jeopardizing the lives of innocent people who were just going about their day. Police Officers have no way of knowing what the suspect they are chasing is capable of. This “perp” has already demonstrated a disregard for others in pursuit of his own interest.
It does not equate to “supporting” a police state to support cops doing their job. Real citizens, responsible citizens will not find themselves in these situations, because they are not criminals. We should be careful not attack the sheep dog because he looks like a wolf, they are are out there every day protecting the flock from the wolves, and a good sheep dog has characteristics similar to the wolf, thats why they are sheep dogs and not sheep. The difference is their motivation and their character.
That does not mean that their are not over zealous cops out there that cross the line, but then again they are not sheep dogs are they, they are wolves in sheep clothing.
In America we must stop attacking our protectors. When someone crosses the line into criminal behavior and it results in their death, thats their fault not the cops.

Forgive me, but I don’t see an attempt of the driver to run down a cop, he struck the vehicle. The driver probably did not see the officer exiting the vehicle. Therefore you couldn’t show intent on harming the officer, thus no charges for assulting or attempting to kill the officer. Nice job by the officer to get back up and engage the suspect, he earned a pint that day.
