Will Politician Caught by Wildlife Camera in Sex Act Actually Win $25K for Privacy Violation?

Unmarked Wildlife Camera Catches Austrian Politician in Sexual Act But Could Violate Privacy Laws

(Photo: Shutterstock)

An unnamed Austrian politician was caught in a sexual act by a well-hidden camera whose main purpose was to monitor wildlife in the area. Now, the politician could receive up to $25,000 should the court deem it a violation of privacy laws.

The Daily Telegraph reports the camera placed near Carinthia is unmarked and well away from areas generally trafficked by people. According to Austrian law though, the organization that installed the camera should have received permission to do so and also have posted signage that would indicate surveillance was occurring.

The signs would have served “so visitors could adjust their behavior and avoid the monitored areas,” Hans Zeger, the president of a non-governmental organization with an emphasis on data protection, said to the Daily Telegraph.

Carinthia Hunting Society stands by installing the camera:

“I cannot say for sure how many cameras are in operation in forests in Carinthia as they do not have to be registered to us,” said Freydis Burgstaller-Gredenegger, the society’s manager. “We have never had any problems with the cameras up until now.”

The cameras were used by the organization to monitor feeding patterns.

Thus far, the identity of the politician involved remains protected.

We are looking at the present and future for all of us, no matter where we are and what we’re doing. Anyone who thinks this is funny, is an idiot.

      Damn you, Austrians! Go away!
Yes, clearly we should all be informed of and active in Austrian politics and matters of privacy (in Austria).
This story is lacking in detail and importance. According to some busybodies, the acts of urination and defecation are sex acts when done in any place other than a water closet. Oh, and here is a bit of advice: Bother to appear to at least have read beyond the headline.
I advise any American citizen against telling any other population on how to run its house… or forests. It kinda makes you look like a jerk. But feel free to travel to Austria and tell me to stuff my advice. I find crazy and ignorant entertaining.
Thanks for setting up this laugh, Inferno.

Hahahahahaha!!!!…OMG…there is a stupid Austrian lawmaker, too?…Is he a distant relative of Bidenby any chance?…Wildlife area and privacy?…I do not see the connection…what I know is that all the wildlife animals do not even wear underwear and not even modestly dressed…and the wildlife animals do their natural procreation duties in the wildlife open…OMG!!!….LOL!!!!!

This reminds me about ten years ago I moved into a new neighborhood, and I set up some wireless cameras monitoring the outside of my house only. Just down the street a family had the same kind of camera in their bedroom overlooking their bed, unannounced to me. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what that was for. As I was installing and setting up the cameras around my house I discovered the camera in my neighbors bedroom down the street. Immediately I did the what I thought was the right thing at the time and knocked on their door to inform them that I found their camera in their room. After some explaining to the husband and exactly what happened he went away and I thought that was the end of it. Then about a month later I get a pounding and kicking at my front door as I was sleeping at 11:00 am (working nights). I answer my door and their is four cop cars and eight cops surrounding my house. They read me my Miranda rights and proceeded with the search warrant as they just stormed into my home. I was informed that they had me under surveillance and did back ground checks on me for the last month. Holy crap I am about the most law abiding honest person, and now this. Apparently the husband was doing some lying to the cops and told them that I said I am in possession of high tech surveillance equipment among some other lies which prompted a court order. To make a long story short the cops found nothing and went away. I learned my lesson, I should be shut my mouth.

Holy cow was that husband a jerk, you were trying to do the right thing and he went behind your back and lied to the cops about you. I hope that you didn’t receive0 a criminal record because of that.

It really should be a crime to knowingly lie to the police, your neighbor should’ve been arrested himself for making false claims about you.

Post his exploits on YouTube. I mean, if he’s broadcasting his camera feed wirelessly without any security protection, he has no expectation of privacy. He’s broadcasting publicly. Help him out.

Not that anyone would probably want to see his nasty, pimply old butt anyway, but it’s the thought that counts. Cyberwarfare CAN be fun!

Just how stupid are governments now? Put in a camera but you must tell everyone in a public space that it is not only there but where it is. You should never expect privacy in public.

The identity of the politician is protected yet somehow his (?) privacy was violated?

And the violation is said to be failure to apply in advance for the proper PERMIT to operate a CAMERA IN THE WOODS? Too much government.

Glad the perverted politician got caught in a sex act. Was he with a man or a woman, or was he going at it solo?

Now this idiot is turning it back on the people who installed the camera. That’s like the fox in the hen house telling the farmer “the chicken just jumped into my mouth”.

Our World is all turned backward. What’s right is wrong, and what’s wrong is right.
Wish there were cameras everywhere. More criminals might be caught. Citizens would feel safer. Hope we can fix the World, before it’s too late.

Why is he a pervert for doing a normal human behavior in what he thought was a private area? Who says he wasn’t with his wife? There are a lot of people who like to make love in the woods for some reason. We have no indication that it was considered illegal. What if he was peeing in the woods and the camera caught his genitals? Would it be appropriate to plaster it all over the internet? Wouldn’t you like the right to have that image kept private? Having a camera recording something doesn’t necessarily mean you need to publish it to the world. There is a big difference between capturing criminal behavior and capturing publicly embarrassing behavior that is perfectly legal. It‘s a public forest and it appears that the law is to inform people if they may be recorded so that they don’t do something embarrassing (like relieve themselves or strip naked and wash) while traveling or camping.

I agree with most of your post. Up to the point that you assert that more cameras would make things “better”. I don’t trust any level of government with installing surveillance cameras. It might start out well, but imagine what it will grow to in 25 or 50 years. All levels of government need to have less power; not more. Especially the Federalistas. Peace.
