Wis. College Students Feel ‘Forced’ to Attend Anti-Budget Protests

Milwaukee NBC affiliate WTMJ reports on a side of the Wisconsin budget protests that isn’t getting much play: how do the college students who support Gov. Scott Walker’s budget proposal feel? According to the news station, some students feel they’re being forced to attend anti-budget protests:

Some students at UW-Oshkosh say they felt forced to show up at a rally at UW-Oshkosh.

Some claimed they felt pressure from most of their professors to participate in campus rallies against the budget bill.

Some students who don’t agree with the protest also were upset their classes were canceled – a move against university policy.

    I just heard on the news a protester interviewed who said she‘s willing to take a pay cut but it’s taking away collective bargaining she has a problem with because of what could happen “long term” and there would be “no protectioin.“ All I can say is ”welcome to the real world!” Who besides union members are guaranteed security, pay, and benefits? No sympathy for you protester.

      I heard her as well. She sounds reasonable but she is also wrong. The change is only in BENEFITS, not pay and police and fire departments are exempt. The UNION bosses have them all worked up and the bussed in protestors are keeping up the hate rhetoric. I think MANY teachers would agree to this small sacrifice and would also love to see MERIT pay. There are some great teachers out there and we NEED them most.

    When tuition’s go up, and they have to get a part time job or drop out of school, then they’ll understand.
    When they’re a parent of a student that has a class with a teacher that does nothing but pile the kids up with homework while they sit in class on their IPhone, then they’ll understand.
    When they buy a house and they have to pay an additional $400 a month in property taxes in order to cover lifetime pensions and benefits for people that only had to work for 15 years, then they’ll understand.
    When they get out of 4 years of college, and have to move back into their parents home, because they didn’t learn anything but diversity and political correctness and employers are looking for aggressive winners, and not whiners that have grown up believing everyone deserves a trophy, then they’ll understand.

    politics and education must be pulled apart, when any student feels pressure to attend ANYTHING by a prof. academic freedom is lost, eduaction stops and indoctrination occurs. There is an unspoken but very powerful threat to a student’s grades and by extension their future caused by the institutionalized bullying by professors and staff at almost all colleges now, It has come to the point that I’m afraid it will take at least 2 generations to fix but maybe already too late. If you want to see the near future of all of America… watch campuses…
    Big Brother is watching your kids now, He WILL follow them home from school.

    Great exactly what Teachers should be doing. But if students do not w3ant to be there they should not be forced to attend or their GPA, or refferials being affected. But if teachers want to protest their free to do so, but maybe they should do their jobs first and protest on their free time, not on payed sick days.

    And now our president is working to influence the state. Will he threaten to pull the student loans for those student’s who do not back his stance? You know it is on his mind. He needs to worry about the economy and jobs and keep his nose out of state issues. WI elected the state goverment to do a job and it is the states issue not Obama’s.

Right now, it‘s the unions and their members that are being used as a tool and barry is using terms like ’entitlements‘ and substituting the word ’rights’. He is altering the words/wordology.     There’s a poll currently over at CNN asking “What is your general view of labor unions?”
    as of right now here’s the results
    Negative 53%
    Positive 27%
    Neutral 20%

    If the Dems and Labor Unions are willing to shut down state gov’ts, abdicate congressional duties, swarm private residences of GOP members and bully and intemidate any who oppose them–they are commiting political suicide.

    53% Negative from a CNN poll speaks volumes.

      I hope this blows up soon. I live in Albany, New York and I am terrified that there is going to be rioting here at the capitol. But then again we have a super liberal as our Governor….
      But people say NY is very organized and very liberal so demostrations are probably almost a given.
      It scares me to death.

    I believe the students truly feel the pressure from left wing acadamia. Our children, for the most part, have never been taught critical thinking and the power of the individual. I pray that they see this situation as it really is; a union powerplay, intended to bully and intimidate the forces of reason.

      Most of that is what parents are for. I fear for what my daughter will get taught in college next year. I let her know NOT to believe everything she hears. She will be taught the tactics of college professors, too.

      You are exactly right! You can flunk school by thinking for yourself and questioning your instructors. Any idiot can get straight A’s. It is EASY. I KNOW! Just do as you’re told and suck up a little. Works like a charm. So does the opposite. The kids are taught this very early.

      It‘s been happ’n for over thirty years. Slowly but surely. All liberal arts degrees are just that. Now they even dispute science, global warming. If you don’;t believe what WE want you too, bye bye.

      I know you folks all wish for a peacefull solution to all this but it ain’t gonna happen. Now our children, I don’t care how old they are for they never matured, are being used by thise leaches.

      I was downtown in Phoenix that day when the protests were going on, it got hairy in my area for a bit of the time. Thankfully the officers were on their guard that day, and plenty of room availible for those who refused to follow the officers orders in the city and county jails.

      They did the same thing in Michigan to try to counter the TEA Party .. ASTRO TURF BUSES! The newspaper didn‘t’ want to cover that it was ASTROTURF until too many people spoke out .. it was in my old hometown.

      Of course if a true counter revolution begins, no news coverage other than Fox will happen; unless the rest use the coverage to further distort their own lies and agendas. They, the students who feel forced to attend, would be well off to unite and begin the counter revolution. Do it peacefully and without malice, and speak the truth along with holding onto it.

      That would be nice to see fertlmind. I think the real problem is even if they did, who would cover it? They had a video the other day showing high school students that had no idea why they at the rally or what it was even all about. One kid said “we’re here to stop that dude from doing whatever it is he is doing.”

      I noticed that a lot of the signs and billboards that the protesters were holding said things like “I’m doing this for my students“ and ”Love the people who love your kids”……Is the govenor of Wisconsin forcing little children out of the school system?? Is he telling the children that they no longer have the right to an education and that the schools are going to closed down permanently?? The only reason that the children aren’t in school is because their TEACHERS are at the capitol DEMANDING that their benefits are not decreased……what has that got to do with the children?? These imbeciles are moral cowards who use the children as HUMAN SHIELDS for their own selfish, self-centered interests……if you ever wondered what a “gutless wonder” looked like, take a look at these protesters……and try not to vomit when you do so…..

      just the beginnig folks. teamsters plan on blocking commerce, highways bridges etc, other states, my union is in planning stages of disruptions. This was all calculated after election, conspired if you will. Hopefully some real leadership will surface because right now, no one is talking. Plenty of people willing to roll up sleeves and do the tough job, but right now people are just shouting. I believe we can resolve these problems with rational choices. Budget problems require sacrafice and cuts, but ending collective bargaining?Not smart. The issue of the protestors is not cuts and give backs, it is the wi government ending collective bargaining. i don’t condone teachers calling in sick or democrats running out of state. i don’t like or have a choice in the union i belong to either. On both sides the common sense voices are silienced.

      Continue classes. Hire substitutes or t.a.s if they need to. Fire the greedy losers if they don’t do their jobs. They just want a huge crowd for intimidation. Looking at the crowds on t.v. yesterday, I wondered if all those present really understood why they were there. I have a feeling many would be on the opposite side of the protest if they understood the issue.

      teachers who call in sick should have dr notes, and if none then fire, insubordination, like reagan did to the air traffic controllers who tried to pull the same kind of tricks, im sure there are plenty of teachers who would gladly fill the positions since they are making over 100 grand with benes etc…

      The students being pressured – by their professors – to attend protests on and off campus – should file a formal complaint against their professors – and demand the university file criminal actions of harrassment and intimidation – against the “professors”.

      Students who are willing to attend daily classes – should not be subjected to any other actions (incited by professors) – other than attending classes.

      errrr, ummm, EXCUSE ME…..a “counter” revolution ALREADY began…..it’s called the TEA PARTY! Where are they right now? Just Protest the Protest at a DIFFERNT location and make sure ANY FOX affiliate gets wind of it and SHOWS UP…..you can also TAPE it yourselves and upload it to the internet like we did last year. It’s no different this time…..we just need to be careful to make sure we are nowhere NEAR the other protestors. THERE ARE MORE OF US THAN THERE ARE OF THEM!
