Wis. Election Board: Mickey Mouse, Hitler Won’t Automatically Be Struck From Recall Petitions

Wisconsin OKs Mickey Mouse, Adolf Hitler Signatures for Recall Petitions

AP

It’s probably safe to say “Mickey Mouse” and “Adolf Hitler” aren’t Wisconsin voters, but their names will nevertheless be counted on petitions to recall Republican Gov. Scott Walker if they are properly dated and have valid addresses, a state board ruled Tuesday.

While the Government Accountability Board will note suspicious signatures, they‘ll be accepted as long as they’re accompanied by a Wisconsin address and are dated within the circulation period, WISN-TV reported. The G.A.B. reviews petitions before a recall election can proceed.

“We will flag them, but we will not strike them without challenge,” board elections specialist David Buerger told the station. He noted that in past recall elections, the name “Adolf Hitler” was removed because the accompanying address was in Germany.

Instead, it’s up to the officeholder up for recall to identify duplicate or otherwise improper signatures when they review the petitions, and request that the board strike them. According to WISN, that puts Walker at a disadvantage because he can‘t see the signatures until after they’re submitted, while organizers can remove problematic ones before turning the petitions in.

In response to the board’s ruling, Walker and the state Republican Party announced an effort to verify signatures, soliciting citizens who want to volunteer to check names.

The effort to recall Walker from office kicked off last month. United Wisconsin, the coalition behind the drive, needs to collect 540,208 signatures by Jan. 17 in order to force a recall election sometime in 2012. The group claimed to have collected more than half of the required signatures in just 12 days, but has not provided any updates since.

“While the Government Accountability Board will note suspicious signatures, they‘ll be accepted as long as they’re accompanied by a Wisconsin address and are dated within the circulation period, WISN-TV reported.”

How the heck can you be sure the “volunteers” selected to check names and addresses, aren’t going to intentionally ignore all the ones they find not valid?
And, if all it takes is a name and valid WI address, one could write down addressess all over town and use those. I thought a signature on a petition (political) had to be from a resident and registered VOTER.

It would be one thing if the board had decided to honor the votes of people for “mock” write-in candidates such as “Hitler,“ ”Mickey Mouse,” etc., maintaining it as a sign of formal protest to the democratic process and the sham of options presented (i.e. like the infamous example of the Roman emperor who appointed a horse to the Senate, because he figured that at least the horse couldn’t do WORSE than the Senators)–I would totally understand and respect that.

But the requirement of a signature on a petition, particularly THIS kind of petition, is a legal requirement for very good reasons–the results of the process, particularly as illustrated in THIS particular process, must be beyond contest, and to allow this brings an added ambiguity into the process that is unnecessary and unwarranted, regardless of whether or not it ALSO engenders greater danger of voter fraud.

That is exactly what this story represents. No matter what side you may be on in this issue, there are laws on the books in this State, and this review board is clearly and deliberately ignoring them. By refusing to enforce the People’s duly instituted and fully legal laws, the State violates the Social Cpntract and declares open war upon the People and on the individual rights and liberties it was constructed to protect. This is not the rule of law, this is the rule of men.

Did you see the related story about a City official asking the Connecticut State government to make it legal for ILLEGAL aliens to vote in City elections (it was on the Drudge Report). Once again, this is not a matter of empathy for other humans, they are clearly illegal aliens by definition. This story is about a clear violation of civil law and the Social Contract. In short, this is lawlessness on parade.

Perhaps this is because the recall effort has slowed down to a standstill. After only 12 days or so, the recall movement was touting their ability to collect over 300,000 signatures. This was around 28 November. Last night the same group did not want to disclose the amount they have now. I have a feeling it is because they barely have any additional signatures over their 300,000 mark. Maybe, they have collected all of the signatures of people wanting to recall. Of those 300,000, who knows how many are valid. There is going to be a tremendous fight over these “signatures”

This is only the beginning. The Government Accountability Board just announced that voters voting by absentee ballot can vote in the regular election, in case they changed their mind. The poll workers will be responsible for ensuring people only voted once. There is not any punishment for the voters in voting twice.

So people could potentially vote twice against Walker, and there will be no penalty for this. I guess to be fair, this means that individuals could vote twice for Walker too.

This so called “accountability” board is a joke.

This is total B.S. the recall system has to go, one group not happy about what is going on in government should have to wait until the next election to vote out the person they do not agree with!!! We had to live with the Dems running the State into the ground for more than 12 years, now that the shoe is on the other foot the cry babies have restored to recalls after recalls!! Now we have a balanced budget, and a surplus for the first time in almost 20 years and didn’t have to raise taxes!!! The Unions and Socialist cry babies have to have it their way or no way it would seem!! Well they can all go to -ell!!! And the made up voters shouldn’t be counted period!!!!!!!!!

You have got to be kidding me – so all I have to do is open a phone book and start writing on the petition?? And people wonder why states like mine (Tennessee) have enacted voter id laws? Isn’t it the left always crying about the one man one vote blah blah … yet they have no problem with the one man and a list of valid addresses and a gazillion votes. Yep, that makes me feel really warm and fuzzy about the effectiveness of my honest single vote

there has been absoutely no proof of any widespread voter fraud and most of these voter ID laws are designed to surpress the vote. It is the return of the poll tax.

Bernbart – You need to wake up! I have walked up to Recall Walker tables and told them that I have already signed and they said I could sign more than once. There are issues with middle school students signing. There is so much corruption in this from the Democrats that it makes me sick! The only people who are NOT for voter ID is those who want to game the system! I have signed up to help input signatures/addresses from this recall (there are about 4000 people so far). We have to try and keep this process as legal as we can since the Wisconsin Government ‘Accountabilty’ Board (what a joke) will not do the job they are suppose to do. It is time to get rid of the GAB!!!!!!

I lived in Wisconsin for years and had a state ID when I was under 18 for work purposes. It was easy to get even for a 16 year old. I’m tired of hearing people whine how its a burden to get an ID. BS! If you are to lazy to get off your fat-@ss to get an ID….. Oh well, sucks to be you then.

BERNBART, voter fraud is the very reason alot of states are moving towards Voter ID. Look at what is going on in Indiana… They are discovering FALSE signatures on the registration forms for then Canidate Obama. If these were discovered BEFORE the elections, OBAMA would not have been allowed to be on the election ballot for the state of Indiana!!!! If he did it in Indiana, how many other states did his Democratic Party committ fraud in??? They also discovered voter fraud when Al Franken was elected to the Congress too!!! People voting who had no right to cast a vote!!! If it happened before, what is to keep it from happening again!!! It is a discrace and is an insult to every American. VOTING and ELECTING our representatives is one of our fundamental rights as an American!!!!!

This is going nowhere and is being hyped by media as a big deal, just like the previous circus events. They’ve thrown the kitchen sink at him and failed spectacularily.

This is going nowhere. Walkers job is safe because the majority in the conservative private sector have had enough of Socialism.
