Wisconsin Activist at Netroots Ponders What Would Hitler Have Done With Fox News

Progressives from across the country have come to Providence, Rhode Island, this weekend to party and network for the “giant family reunion for the left” — the Netroots Nation Conference. After a crushing loss Tuesday following the failed attempt to recall Governor Scott Walker, Wisconsin activists served as the reunion’s grumpy uncle.

At the “Take a Walk, Scott: Post-Mortem of the Wisconsin Recalls” session one particularly ticked-off panelist engaged in several frustrating rants slamming Walker’s reforms, campaign finance law, and the media.

“What would Hitler have done with Fox News,” exclaimed Harry Waisbren. “It’s impossible to imagine the power of propaganda system that we have right now, and there is no counter. The one percent is able to buy our media.”

According to Waisbren’s twitter profile, the Wisconsinite is currently transplanted in New York City as an organizer for the Jobs Party ”building #Occupy #WIunion momentum.”

The Hitler analogy came about during a segment of the discussion where panelists dissected a television advertisement by Governor Walker. The activists argue the advertisement misrepresents job creation statistics in Wisconsin over the last two years.

Earlier in the session Waisbren bragged about “cheesehead rallies” he organized in front of Fox News’ New York City office last year, where the Wisconsinite claims the number of protesters were in the thousands. He claims the event later inspired actions of MoveOn and Rebuild the Dream. The National Review caught one of Waisbren‘s protests in front of Rupert Murdoch’s home last summer. At the protest Waisbren claimed “Fox News is a criminal organization,” in front of a crowd that NRO reports made it up to 35 or 40 people, but with the press reportedly far outnumbering the demonstrators.

      Actually, FOX would be Hitler’s network of choice. FOX supports, not the average person, but the rich elite, the billionaires and people like Romney who have elevators for their cars. People who like firing “people who work for them” and make money raiding people’s retirement funds to make their millions, then sending the companies they own into bankruptcy and telling their creditors to take a leap. They worked the system. Romney and his cronies made millions, while regular people like you and me lost their jobs, their retirement funds and creditors lost every dime they were owed. But Romney and Bain made money so that’s, like, capitalism and laudable in the Ayn Rand view of the world.

      Hitler would have loved it. He would have loved a network that promoted the ideas of the powerful over the average person. He would have doubly loved a network whose viewers were actually less knowledeable, or more stupid (who knows which?) than people who don’t even watch TV. FOX would be owned by Hitler and you know what? The content would be exactly the same.

      Thanks for the link (I’m going to pick up a copy). Seems JZS, and a number of other liberal posters, fit the profile described by Dr. Rossiter.

      Sadly for those like JZS, they rely on the government to take care of them and give them purpose. They certainly can’t rationalize that this care is not based on love, but on control toward elitist political ends.

      JZS, you are apparently totally unaware of the types of people that Hitler had imprisoned and executed. Among the many things that the Nazi party was strictly against were capitalism and free enterprise. These were seen as related to “Jewry.” His biggest beef with the Jews was that they used their wealth to buy power and affect matters of state. Interestingly, you hear the same sentiment coming from OWS today.

      To imply that Hitler would promote any of the same ideals as modern conservatives reveals a complete misunderstanding of his belief system. It is the same woeful ignorance of history that leads liberals to think that socialism is still a good idea.

      Delusional? Look in a mirror. Hirtler was in no way a conservative as we know it. Crack a history book. Hitler was a National Socialist, in direct competition with the Communists for adherents. Many followers switched back and forth between the two, and Hitler and Stalin were allies in the beginning. Hitler’s anti-Zionism was a direct reflection of the early 20th century Progressive movement belief in science as the new God; that a perfect society could be created through Eugenics ( a philosophy shared by Planned Parenthood founder and darling of the modern left Margaret Sanger). For Sanger, it was the elimination of the mentally infirm, the ugly and racial minorities that was the goal. For Hitlerl it was Jews. Oddly enough, it is the uber -left OWS crowd that is openly anti-Semitic today, not conservatives.

      Hitler was only “right wing” in the context of European politics, where two rails existed on the same track- a right one and a left, but both were guided by the same philosophy and both shared the same goal of collective statism. By the standards of social collectivism,they were to the right of Leninist-Trotskyite communism, but by the standards of the west, they were in fact leftist. Why do you think Nazis and Communists flew the same colors, wore the same kind of uniforms, and used many of the same symbols? They were different philosophies in details, but were both big government collective statism with far more in common that differences. Both built their philosophies on early 20th century progressivism.

      When you try to equate European Nazis with American conservatives, you are comparing apples to Volkswagens, and make yourself look like an uneducated partisan hack. The American left has far more in common with European Nazis than do any conservatives here.

      But regardless, in your mind the “left wing” side of that continuum is North Korea, a completely despotic government. An example of the far right wing of the continuum would be, uh, well, there isn’t one is there in your mind is there? Think RJJ! A little bit of truth may have gone a long ways in discrediting Hitler, relegating him to an insignificant blip on history’s screen. Without any truth to counter Hitler, nothing could stand in his way, really. So keep up the good work, Fox!

      Agree. With the Far Lefty control of the Lap Dog media, we’d be sunk without Fox which is precisely why the international Left in London is trying so hard to ruin Murdoch and his media outlets like Fox. These are the same criminals who use the Left media , like the New York Times , to release all sorts of information to either bolster the Lefties in the White House/ overseas or to weaken American influence and our military.
