Wisconsin Gov. Vows Protesters ‘Will Not Drown Out’ Taxpayers

The protesters “have every right to be heard,” Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker insisted Friday evening, but their protests will “not drown out” the taxpayers who elected him to make changes.
In a live press conference, the recently embattled governor doubled down on his challenge to Democrats in the state senate who fled the state to avoid a vote on his budget proposal, insisting it’s their job to be in Madison.
“We’re broke,” the governor admitted of his state, adding that his campaign for office promised “bold” changes and that‘s just what he’s going to do:
The union protests at the state capitol attracted some big names to the fight Friday. Former Sen. Russ Feingold and Rev. Jesse Jackson urged workers to continue fighting to protect their collective bargaining privileges, comparing the protests in Madison to the revolution in Egypt.
Additionally, AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka channeled his inner William Wallace, declaring to the crowd that Gov. Walker “can’t have our freedom!”

Posted on February 18, 2011 at 7:47pmAgain, et me dumb this down for the State Union Lovers!!!!! Here are the facts you don’t get:
1) The average teachers wage in the State of Wisconsin is $60,000.
2) The average teachers benefit compensation package is $40,000. (Pension, healthcare, etc)
3) Wisconsin has one of worst rated Public School System in the Nation (sorry but these are testing facts, not mine).
4) Currently there is more money being paid to teachers then going into classrooms.
5) This bill is not Anti-Collective Bargaining of wages/salaries ONLY with respect to (benefits, i.e. pension and healthcare).
6) If the bill does not pass then those complaining about their Collective Bargain “RIGHTS” being taken away must not understand that the other consequence is, the State will be FORCED to lay-off 5,500-20,000 people.
7) State employess wages are paid with TAX PAYER dollars, not Union money. They work for me and for you.
This is not complicated math, or thought, or reason.
Please forget whatever class you have yourself in (Republican, Democrat, Union Member, Black, White, Muslim, Teacher, Janitor, Martian, etc.) that’s SOOO not important anymore. The only thing that currently matters is fiscal responsibility. For that I say GOD BLESS GOVERNOR Walker and the State of Wisconsin .. someone has finally telling the elephant in the living room that they don’t have the money to feed it anymore.
WE must stop allowing State Unions to demand that our States give something they DO NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO GIVE. WE must stop allowing State Unions to threaten the people they work for.
Finally, shame on the 14 Democrats in Wisconsin that lacked the courage to ‘suit up and show up”. You know the ones that ran like C H I C K E N S and are hiding in a RESORT while they people they work for are gathered in the Capitol, missing work, some not being paid, while schools are closed for kids, etc., why bus loads of Union member from other states gather to protest and riot. In my opinion, well, umm they ought to get their ‘walking papers’ first.
God Bless Governor Scott Walker and the citizens of the State of Wisconsin.

Public sector employees work for the taxpayer, are paid by the taxpayer and should have no affiliation with unions. Taxpayers deserve to be able to fire incompetent employees and pay them a reasonable wage and benefits. Unions have broken most states (and many companies) with their greed, and it’s now time to turn the tables.

Today, my son‘s preschooler’s teacher, at our local public school district, didn’t show so she could protest, I didn’t know until I picked him up from school – a parent was asked to fill in, and between that parent, an aide from another classroom, and the other classroom’s teacher, my son was “supervised” today – they should have let the parents know – I was wondering what was going on when I dropped him off – I was told by the supervising parent that only 3 regular teachers from my school district showed up today , many took students with them to protest – unbelieveable. Was glad he only has pre-school for 3 hrs. I am going to school to be an elem. ed instructor – will graduate in 2012 through UW-Superior Distance Learning – have been in the private sector for 24 years. Gov. Walker is really not asking for much from gov’t. workers compared to the sacrifices the private sector in WI makes – I’m actually afraid to say anything, especially on my face book etc., because I’m “friends” with some teachers – and they DO bully, I’m finding that out in a hurry.

Either they run out of sick days and have to go back to work, or they keep calling in sick and they can be fired for exceeding their sick days. Fire them and hire fresh college grads.
Really hard for the majority of Americans to get behind these cry babies. They need to get in touch with the reality that the rest of us know. Most of us pay for a portion of our health care, and in fact, some of us pay for ALL of our health care. A whole lot of us don’t even have a pension and instead save for our retirement on our own via 401ks and IRAs. For about 10 years, I worked for companies that didn’t offer a pension. My wife contributes 100% into her retirement plan. These creeps are protesting and saying it‘s about ’the children’? It’s about greed, and they can no longer say that they are underpaid. That might have been the case in the 80s, but not now. Oh, and by the say, they don’t have to work 1/4 of the year (but many get summer jobs for extra money).

Unions are not needed. We have OSHA(Occupational Safety & Health Association).
Unions are organized crime. This is no secret. Workers must to pay dues to the Union. Unions are out for themselves, have become too powerful and are hurting this country by paying off politicians.
Unions hurt small and large business, making workers unproductive & lazy…, often creating a need for overtime.
Unions have much to lose in this and are busing in protesters from other states and are funding protests. They are are becoming increasing coupled with our government.
Why must I contribute higher taxes to pay retirement pension plans of others when I don’t have the means to save for my own retirement.
Pension plans are taking all the money from the education budgets. We can not continue in this absurdity.
Why must I contribute higher taxes to pay for somebody else‘s heath care when I’m struggle to pay for my own.
If you read the Budget Repair Bill you’ll understand that nobody is losing their collective bargaining privileges. Wage increases are done by referendum and voting.
Government workers forget where their pay comes from. Known for their laziness.., government & union supported workers still have the sweetest deals across the US. Read the NY Post and see almost daily pictures of agency workers and school teachers sleeping during work hours. These workers would be fired in any business or non-union shop. Businesses can’t compete with this excessive overhead.
The bad insecure liberal teachers have acted shamefully in this. I feel bad for the intelligent teachers who understand what is happening to our once great country.

Posted on February 18, 2011 at 10:12pmIf this is actually a measure to balance the budget, then some explain to me why the governor excluded police unions and fire department unions from the proposed regulations. Unions of police and firefighters are good (I agree), but teachers unions are bad? Seems to me pure politics, but maybe someone can explain why some unions are fine and others must be neutered.
Didn’t this same governor reduce taxes a few weeks ago for businesses. That’s out there, is it true. Is it true that he’s supporting businesses and cutting pay for government employees.
I think people with a common interest (like the PTSA) have a right organize and speak with a single voice. The Constitution guarantees that right (First Ammendment). Are the Founding Fathers rolling over in their graves?

Posted on February 18, 2011 at 11:53pmWhat happens in Wisconsin will happen throughout the country. Stay strong Governor Walker – you have become a hero to taxpayers all over America. Obama should be impeached for his obvious support for riots, violence and chaos. I keep remembering what Rahn Emmanuel said that you should “never let a crisis go to waste”. How sad that the progressives and communist have stooped to using children and good hearted people as props in their agenda . If only the children knew that their future is being destroyed by the very people they are supposed to trust. They will never beable to enjoy the fruits of their labor, and feel the joy of putting in a hard days work and being successful. They will live in a world of mediocracy absent innovation and the possiblity to live the American Dream. Individual rewards for hard work will be frowned upon and people will be encouraged to “support the collective”. Meanwhile the elitists who think they know better will live in the lap of luxury, laughing and looking down on all THEIR stupid sheeple that pay for their lifestyles.. God, PLEASE, help us!!!

Posted on February 19, 2011 at 12:59amPolice and firefighters are critical services with no right to strike. If they could strike it would take all of 12 hours for society to devolve into total anarchy. Teachers: hey, the kids ain’t been to school almost a whole week, and life goes on. That’s the difference.

Realistically, down to brass tacks, YOU have nothing to offer. All YOU have are lines stolen from other places; there’s really nothing original in your head, nothing original about YOU.
At the end of the day, what do YOU have that would change minds to your way of thinking? Tell us all, please! Why should anyone, anywhere, say he/she came to a new persuasion because of YOU?

Really–you talk so much but say so little that, basically, you just gibber. You espouse ‘common’ lines so often that, really, a parrot does better. Seriously–you can‘t even rise to a bird’s brain.
You really take yourself seriously? And you believe anyone else will?
Honestly–assuming YOU can go that length–where do YOU persuade, where do YOU enlighten anyone to YOUR way? YOU hit-and-run, never staying around long enough to write more than lines stolen from others.
Do you really think YOU are influential in any way, even among your own family?
Where do YOU think YOU fit in the greater scheme of things? Whose lives have YOU influenced, whose lives have YOU changed for the better?
Tell me–have YOU ever tried saving the life of a dying man? Have YOU ever breathed into a mouth like that, hearing the death rattle in decrepit lungs, and still tried to bring him back knowing there wasn’t a chance of it happening? Did YOU try anyway?
Did YOU have to go to that old deceased man’s wife, and tell her that YOU couldn’t bring him back to her? What do YOU know? I demand of YOU, since YOU pontificate so much and all the time as if YOU have the corner market on morality. Really–who the frack do YOU think YOU are in the greater scheme of things? What–because you chirp stolen words from others that YOU are somehow great, somehow beneficial?
Tell us all, YOU–where were YOU when a neighbor–a man you didn’t know, needed someone to try saving his life? Going by YOUR posts, I bet YOU would balk.
YOU disgust me.
Have YOU ever given a homeless girl $5 to get breakfast when all she asked was fifty cents for a lousy cup of coffee? Have YOU, in YOUR pompous self-righteousness, given that girl or any other a breakfast and waited till YOU got home for YOUR coffee?
Really–who the frack do YOU think you are?

Posted on February 19, 2011 at 8:01amHooray for Governor Walker! He is one of too few politicians who say what they mean and mean what they say…
As Obama said himself, “Elections have consequences.” Time for these Union Thugs to accept reality… States are going broke, and tax-payers with little or no benefits can no longer afford to fully subsidize their lavish benefits…
Governor Walker is simply trying to level the playing field so that ALL Americans have an opportunity to get ahead and live the American dream…

Posted on February 19, 2011 at 11:35amNEWS: Obama blunders again, sticking his nose in where doesn’t belong, sticking up for the Union thugs. He thinks he is still a Community Organizer instead of a Pres. of the USA for ALL the people. When will he realize what he’s doing? Surely after this little episode his popularity has dropped all the way d o w n and hit bottom. This country and all the states are in dire straights. They have to finally act like they would in their own homes, cut out the fat and buy only the necessities. Stop smoking & drinking beer because, as nice as it is to some, it‘s an unnecessary expense if we’re trying to get back on a level playing field before we go flat broke and lose it all.

JZS, Thank you for the question, Let me try to tackle that.
Report Post »You said: “…excluded police unions and fire department unions from the proposed regulations…”
If you boil it all down, the Federal government is responsible for national security i.e. military and borders. The states are responsible for safety and and protection, i.e. Police/Fire, everything else is gravy. The problem is: Theres only enough gravy to go around and the unions want, not just gravy, they want: sour cream, bacon bits, extra cheese, and a banana split for dessert. The states are saying, ‘you’ll be damn lucky to get bread and butter for a while until we get out of this mess that you caused.” The key word here is ‘unions’. unions have no business in the public sector and never should have allowed there, period. the UAW still relies on the bottom dollar of the auto sales and because of the UAW Detroit is in worse shape than New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. It’s a desolate mess. The demands of unions are unsustainable. But, when you put the union‘s in control over the ’deep pockets’ of the average American taxpayer, at some point, there is going to be Hell to pay! That’s where we are.
I‘ve worked hard all my life and the best I’ve ever EARNED was just under 40K. I’ve payed taxes for teachers that made twice that, and their students are as dumb as rocks! There is no accountability. But, the kids know how to protest for the polar bears (that aren’t even endangered), they can’t read or write and the concept of math to them is like a fourth dimension. But, they know Walmart is somehow evil.
We said (in Nov. 2010), Enough! NO MORE!!!! not ‘no mas’ –we speak American here!
I‘m eating hamburger now instead of steak because I can’t afford it, why should I be required to pay for a steak for someone who isn’t worth beans?
